Part 3: Home

Jan 14, 2018 1:16 pm
The crew of the Horizon Chaser, 9,000 credits richer but less two members, are each lost in their own thoughts as the ship speeds through hyperspace. The deal with Thessa’s contact went smoothly and they are on their way to find a place to spend credits, and hopefully find some more work: Nar Shaddaa.
Jan 14, 2018 1:16 pm
Jack is sitting in the copilot seat, ruminating on the losses of the past month, when a light begins flashing on the console indicating an incoming message. Morosely, he reaches out and accepts the message, but then sits upright as Ada’s voice comes through the speaker.
"Hi Jack. Shut up, let me talk…this isn’t a two-way call, just a message. I…I can’t talk long, have to get back to work. But I wanted to let you know…I’m okay. I got away clean and am making a new life. Even got a straight job, can you believe it? Anyway, I wanted to say thanks. And sorry. Hope you guys are doing okay and haven’t crashed my ship."
She signs off with Ada’s typical dry humor and Jack feels the tightness that has been growing in his chest ease, just a bit. He sits back in the chair again and thinks to himself…
Jan 14, 2018 1:16 pm
Bo is working on the spare parts she found on Bespin, trying to find a part to repair a wonky switch, when she hears a soft androgynous voice.
"What are you doing?"
Jan 14, 2018 1:17 pm
Doc is arranging his medical tools, replacing used items and making sure everything is properly sterile. As he reaches for a laser scalpel his hand suddenly begins to shake and a memory from the past overtakes him…
Jan 15, 2018 5:11 pm
Bo sits up right and bangs her head on a lip of the open manifold she has been tinkering with. "Oi, whos dat?" She spins around looking for the speaker.
Jan 16, 2018 9:35 am
Doc's eyes fix into the middle distance for a few moments. Thoughts dance through his head, memories that he had blessedly been able to push to one side with the last few days work but now he was trapped alone with them.

As he stands there lost in his own thoughts a box that was placed precariously drops and lands on the floor. Startled Doc spins eyes wide but quickly realises what happened he starts to breathe to try and calm himself whilst studying the lit laser scalpel that he did not recall picking up. Shaking away the thoughts and his embarrassment he tidies the box and the scalpel away before turning to head to the common area to grab a kaf. For a moment his eyes linger on the medical supplies before he shake his head and heads to the common area
Jan 16, 2018 10:17 am
Bo gets no response, and is clearly alone.
Jan 16, 2018 4:26 pm
Bo goes to the galley and makes a highly caffeinated Rodian tea. She debates with herself if she has just been under a lot of stress and is hearing things, or if there was something to hear. Her dad and brothers used to get in her head like this when she was young. But, that's impossible. If that was what it was like, who the hell was it?
She is just imagining things.
Jan 17, 2018 11:32 pm
Settling back into their routine, the trip through hyperspace is uneventful for the crew and they soon arrive at their destination. Nar Shaddaa is a moon that is like Coruscant in that it is completely covered by buildings, but the corruption, crime, and violence lacks the civilized veneer of the core world. This is a place where anything, or anyone, can be bought...for the right price.

The ship touches down at the assigned berth with a loud hiss of hydraulics.
Jan 18, 2018 2:57 pm
Bo converges in the cockpit to watch the ascent to the planet. Once safely on the ground she says "Anyone know ah buyer fo da merchandise? Maybe we need to tawk to some locals?"
Jan 18, 2018 3:18 pm
Doc looks out at the cityscape as they fly towards the landing dock with an unreadable look on his face. He jerks his head around as Bo speaks, seemingly surprised to see her there. "I'm not sure, Hutt space isn't exactly somewhere I ever thought I'd find myself so I've never gone out of my way to build up any contacts here abouts."

His coat draped over the back of the pilot's seat, Jack brings the Horizon Chaser in for a landing. Going to Nar Shaddaa might be best for their current situation - out of the eyes of the Empire, and a good place for those with credits to spend, so long as they watch their pockets - but coming back to the Huttese moon left a bad taste in his mouth. "Looks the same," he grunts as the ship closes in and lands in port.

"I have someone we can speak to for work. Think we should figure out what our next job is before we spend our earnings?" He says, rising to his feet and slipping an arm through his jacket. Despite the presence of the others, the cockpit felt painfully empty, compared to recent times. "Maybe we should look into gathering more crew," he adds.

Bo seems distracted by some distant thought. She can’t get the voice out of her head. She looks back through the empty ship as if someone might be there. Lets wook for some help. Wat sort ah skills do we need? Piwot? Medic? "
Jan 28, 2018 8:20 am
At the mention of ‘medic’ Doc gives bo a look that could nail her to the hull and says flatly "I think we might just be ok on the medical front....call it a hunch"
Jan 28, 2018 12:19 pm
"We'll see if we have enough of a selection that we can afford to be choosy," Jack replies, grinning at Doc's look, "But we could do worse than to replace what we've lost. A pilot, some muscle, and someone with some credibility, or at least someone who looks credible." Frowning in thought, he adds with a murmur, "That's a tall order for this place."

He gestures for the others and proceeds to head through the ship to disembark, "We'll see what we find. I think I might know a place where we can start looking, at least."

Bo keeps a watch on the street and inside the bar for any Imperial snitches. There might not be a presence of troopers on the planet, but there are likely agents no doubt.
Feb 2, 2018 10:28 am
The bar from the outside is unremarkable. A neon sign proclaims its name, competing in a desultory manner with all the other blaring signals of this district. As you approach a Sullustan stumbles and out and loudly vomit on the street.
Feb 2, 2018 6:46 pm
Bo sighes audibly. She hates seeing non-human races embarrass themselves. At least he isn't Rodian. She steps over the mess and enters the bar, being careful not to linger in the doorway where people tend to look up at and monitor. Once she is a few steps in she tries to identify any other Rodians.

Jack circumvents the mess, heading into the cantina.

Feb 6, 2018 1:01 am
Bo sees a diversity of other species and miscellaneous humans, but no Rodians.

Jack knows that talking to the bartender is generally the best way to learn anything.
Feb 6, 2018 10:35 am
Entering into the cantina, you can see that the builders had more vision than practicality; all of the furniture is formed in the shapes of crystals - resulting in uncomfortable chairs and oddly slanted tables. Despite this, there are a score of beings consuming their intoxicant of choice.

An Aqualish tends bar, and she greats you as you enter with a jovial wave before returning to concocting drinks. Her flowing dress also seems impractical for her line of work, but she seems to be enjoying it nonetheless.

A dejected Gand sits at the bar, looking deep into his cup as if it might hold the answers to his problem. His cybernetic leg squeaks as his shifts in his seat. He's wearing the typical garb of a spacer, but the attention he is giving his drink may mean he can't afford many more.

A tall blue humanoid with long, dark, unkempt hair sits slouched in a booth. He is wearing thick clothes and a utility belt, but seems to have little else with him. Perhaps a local, perhaps someone truly down on his luck.

A Twi'lek woman plays holochess against the computer at one of the tables. Her piercing blue eyes narrow as she concentrates, then she smiles fiercely as she keys in her next move. Her excitement fades and fatigue washes over her once more as the computer counters it.

A Human male, unremarkable in every way, sits at the bar idly fidgeting with the space equivalent of a tiny plastic sword, his fingers flickering faster than eyes can easily follow. He is medium height, medium build, and an undefinable age...young and old at the same time. He has slight wrinkles and grey sprinkled through his disheveled dark hair. His demeanor is kind but his grey eyes betray his constant watchfulness, his restlessness.
Feb 6, 2018 4:33 pm
Bo will get a drink typical of Rodian tastes and moves over to watch the chess match. After a few moves she says, "I pway dah woser?"
Feb 7, 2018 12:53 am
The woman cocks her head with a self-deprecating smirk and gestures to the opposite seat as she says, "That would be me, apparently."
Feb 7, 2018 4:55 am
Bo slides in the seat opposite of the twi-lek. Bo speaks in Rodian "I am not an ace at chess by any means, but it helps pass the time while my crew is stuck on this rock." She scrutinizes the twi-lek.
Feb 7, 2018 6:39 am
The blue skinned humanoid takes a deep breath, and holds it for a moment. As he exhales, he fishes in his pocket, and pulls out 7 credits. He scrunches his face to the site, and waves at a waitress to bring him one of the cheaper drinks.

He glances at the twi’lek and rodian, now engaged in a game of holochess and thinks, "I wonder if she’ll finally win one..."
Feb 7, 2018 10:17 am
Jack's somewhat uninterested expression lights up upon spotting the Twi'lek. "I'll go talk to the-.." His words trail off as Bo makes her way toward the chess player, and Jack silently curses his Rodian comrade. Eyeing some of the other occupants, Jack leans toward Doc, gestures to Warden's booth and says, "How about you check on that one, eh? I'll check the bar." Without waiting for a reply, Jack claps his hands together and meanders toward a section across from the bartender.

"Pour a round of the good stuff for myself and these two fine gentlemen, and I'll pay a bit extra for a few words with you," Jack says once he has her attention, fishing out his credits. "I'm looking for a crew. Anyone around been asking for work?"

With an approving raise of the eyebrow, the fidgety and unremarkable man takes the drink in hand and seems to address the glass rather than the man beside him at the bar, "If you've as good a taste in ships as booze, and your generosity holds," Gav pauses to take a sip, "I think you'll have no trouble finding crew." He downs the remainder of the drink and stands, turning to speak, "I'm Gav. Pleased to meet ya." To punctuate the greeting he extends his hand, which is covered in a fingerless glove--a style common among pilots.

Not minding getting to keep the extra credits, Jack doesn't miss a bit as he turns to greet the human instead. "Gav," Jack repeats, "Pleasure's mine. Name's Jack." With a short swing of his arm, Jack claps his hand into the other man's, taking a quick note of the gloves. "Afraid you've only just caught me on a good day when it comes to drinks, but don't let that deter you. We've got one helluva ship." Jack tips his glass a bit toward Gav, and then takes a long drink. "I don't doubt we could find people," he explains, "But I want to make sure we find the right people."

Gav casually surveys the room as he speaks, Whatever needs doing, just like most of us out here. Enough to get by. Seeming satisfied, he turns and looks Jack in the eye, But If I had my druthers, I'd be back in the cockpit. He raises his eyebrows eagerly, So! Tell me about your ship?
Feb 20, 2018 9:45 am
Jack looks just as eager to tell, grinning from ear to ear, "Most might think it looks like your typical YT-2000, but that's only because most haven't had a peek under the hull." He thumbs the rim of his glass as he explains, "The friend of mine that owned it dreamed of being a racer, and when that didn't pan out, she put all of that energy and need for speed into this ship." Jack's eyes drop to his glass for a moment, before he returns Gav's stare, "High-output Ion turbine, high-end hyperdrive that we've overclocked a bit, and it was gutted a long time ago, with all the circuitry replaced with some higher quality cable." Jack grins, "So long as you don't mind that it's deathly allergic to Imperial scanners, I think we should have you take a look for yourself."
Feb 21, 2018 1:36 am
Well, I’d like that. Sounds like we’re compatible… I myself have developed a bit of an allergy. Maybe your… friend’s… not-so-typical YT is more than capable of keeping us all out of trouble. Or, at least out ahead of it, Gav says with a knowing smile.

So, where are you coming from and where are you going to?
Feb 21, 2018 10:53 am
Jack nods his head in agreement with Gav's sentiment. "Between jobs, at the moment," he replies to the rest, "Trying to offload some cargo. Could discuss that further, somewhere more quiet, once you've met the others and everything is looking solid." Jack takes a look around the cantina, trying to make a mental note of where his comrades were as he speaks idly, "Though, we might be on the Smuggler's Moon for a while yet, in order to find work."
Feb 21, 2018 11:52 pm
The Twi'lek answers in Common, "Not something I would know much about, sorry." She seems very distracted by how difficult an opponent Bo is turning out to be. She manages to take one piece, but then Bo takes four more.

As she makes her next move, she appears remarkably confident given how many pieces she has lost. She glances up at Bo and adds, "Now that piece of poodoo you call a vibrosword, that I could help with."

Feb 22, 2018 11:52 pm
Warden responds to Doc’s question about the game-player. "I’ve only watched her play a few games, and she seems to be pretty skilled."

At the mention of the second personal question, he suddenly becomes a little edgy, and takes another sip of his drink. Is this one of those undercover infochants he ran into last week, prying for information about him? He thinks about all the false leads and misdirections he’s propagated, and smirks a little. "It should be a while before they pick up my trail again," he think to himself. He’s probably safe for now.

Still... He studies the human sitting next to him for a brief moment. Although just by looking at someone can never reveal true intentions, his gut tells him to trust the man. And Warden has a tendency to go with those gut feelings.

"That’s a good question. Business or Sightseeing? I guess you can say I’m sightseeing until I find some business. How about you..." His question lingers as if to catch the man’s name.

"I used to work in security management, but I’m kinda doing my own thing now. Just looking for anything that will bring in some credits. How about you? Is it too forward of me to assume you work for the local med center?"

If you’re serious about needing credits I’m thinking we might be able to at least throw some work your way whilst we’re in system....if things go well, and you’re not tied to stopping here long term, then we could look at a more permanent arrangement. If you’re interested that is?"
Feb 24, 2018 12:34 am
"At the moment, my long term plans are wide open, and my pockets are just about empty. And that combination makes me available and interested! Doc, I appreciate the offer and I'll take you up on it."

He knocks back the rest of his drink and leans closer to Doc. "So, you keep your crew patched up, eh? I would think a standard transport crew or courier service wouldn't have much need of a full time doctor in their midst... unless your line of work has a glint of danger." He gives a slight smirk and leans back. "But not to worry, Doc. I'm quite familiar with those types of jobs. I'm in."

As they walk to the counter, Warden comments to Boha. "That was a well-played game you just wrapped up back there. I'd been watching her for a while, and she was a tough one to beat."
Mar 22, 2018 12:06 am
As the group approaches the counter, they can hear the old man muttering, "Gotta get her back. Won't treat her right."
Mar 22, 2018 9:31 am
"Get who back?" Jack asks aloud as they approach the Gand. He adds, almost as if an afterthought, "If you don't mind me asking." He takes up a position beside the man, propping his elbows up onto the bar.
Mar 22, 2018 2:56 pm
Bo is about to respond to Warden when she realizes it might not be appropriate to continue the conversation right now. She just nods a thank you to Warden and puts her attention on the possible employer. A rescue mission? That sounds like my style.
Mar 23, 2018 9:25 am
The Gand, delighted to have an audience, clutches Jacks arm and sputters, "My ship! Those karking bandits stole her." His three eyes narrow as he continues conspiratorially, "But they don't know about my special tracking system. I know right where she is." He pounds the bar to emphasize the last four words and continues, "And right where they are, too. Hasn't moved in three weeks."
Mar 23, 2018 10:21 pm
Warden interjects, "What's preventing you from stealing it back?"

The Gand patiently explains, "I don't have a ship...can't walk through space." He pauses a moment then continues more politely, "Oh, you though she was here, on planet. No...they have a remote hidey-hole, nothing at all there from what I can see. Some dwarf star with no habitable planets."
Mar 24, 2018 10:03 am

"And, what is it worth to you?"
Mar 26, 2018 11:27 pm
The man sputters, "The secret base of these horrid pirates isn't enough? I'm sure they have plenty of ill-gotten gains." He harrumphs a moment then continues, "No, I suppose not. Well I have some small savings put aside. Help me get my ship back, and it's all yours."
Mar 27, 2018 3:13 pm
"So these are pirates, eh?" Warden contemplates the offer, thinking back to times where pirates made his past life more difficult. Getting in the way of cargo runs, capturing ships with important crew... He love an opportunity to get back at a few of them, and make some credits in the process.

He leans into the group and quietly says "I know I'm fairly new here, and my voice may not be worth much yet, but if we are taking a vote, I'm in."
Mar 31, 2018 7:19 am
Jack only grins and nods at Warden's comment, and quietly confirms his question of a vote, "Your vote is worth plenty. I'm for the same." He then looks expectantly at the others.

Warden shifts his weight, and leans on the bar. Grinning at the interchange between his new crew mates and the old gand, he internally approves the tactics they take.

"Not a bunch of push-overs... That's definitely a plus," he thinks to himself.

Bo is happy the man will becoming with them. More accountability if this is a trap.
"Give me a few hours. I meet you all back at ship?"
Bo heads to the address of the Twilek to see what business she can have with her and the hint of the sword.

The Twi'lek looks pleased as Bo enters her shop. Various weapons adorn the walls: swords, daggers, pistols, and more exotic tools for killing and maiming. Her desk is immaculate and she nods at Bo from behind it. "Well met, once again, clever hunter," she greets her.

In Rodian, "My pleasure. Your hints of a fine blade was too much for my curiosity. This is an amazing shop. You must not be a professional chess player then? I am not sure I see anything that is finer than my mono blade displayed here though?"
Apr 16, 2018 10:04 am
The woman shakes her head as she replies, "In terms of damage, no. Nothing but a lightsaber could do better. But I watched you play. You have a beautiful balance of attack and defense. You, amoung all those I play, may appreciate this." She keys in a series of symbols on her desk and a large compartment hisses open. Rising from within is a beautifully made dagger with an unusual crosspiece that curves up to parallel the blade.

She touches it lightly as she explains, "You have perhaps seen bladebreakers before. This one, though, is made of cortosis. Unbreakable, and incredibly difficult to forge."
Apr 17, 2018 5:10 pm
"May I?" Bo asks as she reaches for it.
She draws her mono sword and tests how they feel together fighting with a weapon in each hand. She switches dominant hands and then back. She tests the weight and balance of the breaker.
"What are you asking for this?"

Warden decided to follow Jack and Gav, as well, to the ship. The upfront money the offered him was a generous advance, which he might have responded differently in the past. But that's the kind of programmed response he's trying to distance himself from. And he feels like this is a crew that not only can he trust, but in return, is willing to offer his own.

Jack gives Warden and Gav the tour of the Horizon Chaser, making sure to point out the rooms available to them. He makes sure to emphasize - likely multiple times - all of the modifications on the vessel that mput it above stock quality. "Feel free to pick your bunk," Jack concludes, after a brief explanation to Gav about the quirks of the Chaser's controls, as though he's leaving instructions for how to take care of a precious pet.
Apr 21, 2018 12:01 pm
A short while after Jack finishes the ‘grand tour’ Doc returns to the ship. Giving his new companions a brief nod as he passes "I’ll send you both a questionnaire over. Nothing too onerous in it, just need to know if you have any allergies or other intolerances to anything in standard med’s so I don’t end up accidentally killing you whilst treating any injuries you may incur whilst you’re with us." he finishes with a smile and another nod before heading to his quarters.

"Impressive ship mods, Jack. I like a ship with some care put into her." Warden finds an empty bunk, pushes on the mattress a couple times, and looks around at what could be his home for a bit. He sets what little belongings he has down next to the bunk.

Upon hearing Doc's questionnaire request, Warden nods and smiles. "I think my biggest intolerance would be the receiving end of blaster fire. Nasty stuff, that is."

"But seriously Doc, I don't have very many things you need to worry about. I'm actually pretty comfortable in colder weather, and the only think I'm allergic to is Grainmush. So I guess as long as you don't inject me with any of that, I should be good."

Warden pauses for another moment, wondering if he should share something else that came to his mind. He calls to Doc as he starts to move towards his quarters.

"Doc! Look, if I am ever under your scalpel, you might was well know... and be aware... I have some tattoos. Normally, they are associated with certain organizations around the galaxy. I'm no longer associating with them, and ...I just thought you might want to know."

Doc gives Warden a curious look before shrugging "That kind of thing doesn’t bother me any and I can assure you anything like that that I become aware of whilst you’re under my care would remain just between us." he half turns to carry on to his quarters before looking back at Warden "We all have our secrets and I think I’m pretty safe in saying no one on this ship will pry unduly as long as you afford them the same curtesy."

Bo makes her way back to the Horizon with a skip in her step. She is whistling through her strange Rodian mouth when she arrives at the ship. "We Weady to go?"
Apr 27, 2018 9:18 am
The old man emerges from his room, datapad in hand. His prosthetics clank across the deck as he approaches and says, "I'm ready when you are. I have the transfer ready, just need to know where to send it." He seems more cheerful than he was in the bar, as if a long-lost hope has been rekindled.
Apr 27, 2018 10:15 pm
Bo ignores the man and sits in the galley and prepares for take off. She spins her new knife about and balances it on the back of her hand.

Never thought you'd ask, let's see what she can do... Gav slides into the seat and whistles long and low as he takes in the control panel before him.

Mm hm. Send me those coordinates and we'll get it all lined up, don't you worry, Gav says as he begins flipping toggles and twisting knobs. His practiced hands blur across the dash as the controls light up one by one and a low whine fills the ship.

Warden finds a nice quiet corner of the ship to buckle down as the prep for launch. Once he is settled, he pulls out a folded piece of paper. "You seem preoccupied in your thoughts, Doc. Any problems? I'm willing to help were I can during the trip..."
May 14, 2018 7:43 am
Doc leans back as Warden talks and considers his words for a few moments before responding "It's nothing really. We've been moving at a pretty serious pace recently so we've not really had chance to catch our breaths. I'm also just working through what I think I'll need on this op, pretty much a safe bet that we'll need to engage in some 'energetic' negotiations if our new client is on the up and up and I like to make sure I've got everything I'll need to make sure everyone makes it back in one piece" he finishes with a slight smile.
May 17, 2018 12:13 am
"That's very comforting to hear, Doc. I'm used to 'energetic' negotiations, and I'm always a bit more ambitious when I know I've got a sick-bay and a prepared medic waiting for me."

Warden takes in a deep breath, and looks around him. "Seems like a good ship and a good crew! I look forward to see how we all perform together."
May 30, 2018 4:44 pm
Shes everything you billed her as and more, I’d reckon. Fair to say we won’t have much trouble while we’re flyin’. Gav hoped he’d not eat those words later.

Jun 27, 2018 10:36 pm
Warden hangs back, seeing there isn't much he can do until they land. Still, he keeps his close ear on the conversation incase he can offer any suggestions.
Jun 29, 2018 8:25 pm
Doc studies the readout that Bo is pulling up before nodding "That looks like our best bet, let's get a bit closer and see if we can pick up any more details. If they're the people who boosted our clients ship then it may be best to keep our presence as quiet as possible for the time being"
Jul 4, 2018 8:50 pm
"We can try to come in low from a distance and maybe stay off anyones radar. Land a ways out and go in on foot?"
Jul 9, 2018 11:27 pm
Warden chimes in. "That's good thinking, Boha. If they have any sensor arrays, we should miss them coming in low enough."
Jul 12, 2018 9:05 am
Gav brings the ship in a long slow loop around the planet, breaking atmosphere on the far side from your target. He coasts in low over the ocean, with a flash of sunrise you re-enter the dayside of the planet and skim over the waves. You approach the large continent from the west and fly past plains and forest, then weave through the grand peaks of a mountain range. Bo watches the comm panel intently, but there is no indication that you have been spotted. Gav sets the Chaser down on a grassy plain, about 10 kilometers from the settlement. There is a forest before you, with wind gently blowing the purple leaves of the trees.
Jul 13, 2018 9:20 pm
Doc leans in and takes a look at the various sensor readings, taking articular attention to the atmospheric data.
OOC:
Basically looking to see if there's anything about the planet that could cause issues with the crews health (anything from being out of breath because the air's a bit thinner than normal up to the air being toxic to carbon based lifeforms).
Jul 14, 2018 1:10 am
Warden looks out into the grassy plain through a view port. With a slight jest in his tone, he quietly says "No one here to greet us? Well that's just rude. Still... looks pleasant enough, right?"

He gathers up his gear, and heads to the loading ramp, waiting for the ok to open the doors.
Jul 14, 2018 9:20 am
Doc reads the atmosphere as mostly nitrogen, with a liberal dose of oxygen. There are no toxic gases in any dangerous quantities, and it seems quite safe for the crew. If anything, the oxygen is a little higher than normal, which will give everyone a boost of energy.
Jul 24, 2018 12:11 am
Making sure his equipment is on securely, Warden moves to the boarding ramp and prepares to set out into the forest. He was never one to enjoy much time in wilderness settings, finding the plastisteel buildings and busy streets more to his liking. Still, he had experienced enough environments in his underworld dealings to not mind the surroundings much anymore.
Jul 24, 2018 2:54 pm
Doc moves down to the exit ramp to where Warden is standing, doing one last check to make sure he has all of the supplies he think's he'll need.
