Elon Travelling, Tailing Awanesa and Leif, Using Their Roll
Skyro spends 2 gp on dwarf (incase you didnt edit already on your character sheet)

The dragonborn looks towards the Gnome. His yellow eyes sort of pop out, in a way that reminds you of Skyro's eyes, though your memory of that belongs to when he nearly burned your head off.

"The hunting guild does not go out on jobs for common folk. We seek out only dangerous game in the forests around us and don't use our time providing guide services for adventurers. Under my supervision, you may browse our books to read up on the recorded game in the forests but that is unfortunately the only assistance we can provide. Seek the adventurers guild if you need a guide to the west."

------------------------------

As you approach the door a man walks in with armor that looks just a tad bit too big on him. His curly black hair looks rather greased and he sports a simple mustache on his middle aged face. He walks in rather confidently and notices you and deruvid look new to him. He quickly steps in front of Skyros path and introduces himself.

"You look like your on a mission. And not just any mission!" he speaks rather quickly.

"Yes I know what kind of job your on. I saw a lot of you checking that town posting for the caverns out west. You sure do look like someone that would take up on that offer" he looks you up and down "Yes a calling that fits best for someone like you. I know your probably wondering, WHO would indeed have the honor to guide worthy adventurers to those caverns? Well look no further than me! Elijiah Wolfern at your service. I merely ask for a small token of coin for my services and I can get you to those pesky caverns safe and sound! Armed protection? Expert navigation? These services all come in my price of one gold per person! You do have friends to take along on this journey other than yourself right?" he looks at you rather winded from his sales pitch.

Skyro sighs, purely from being annoyed at the sheer amount of words coming from this idiots mouth.

This fool would need me for protection Skyro smiles at the thought. He then replies to Elijiah, Sorry bucko, I already paid 3 gold for myself and 2 companions to gain firm instructions. he points to the scroll in his pack. During the conversation, Skyro immediately jumps to observing this man.

Jabes.plays.RPG says:

Rustling in the brush, a flash of russet in the corner of his vision. Too fast, it's gone. "Cato." Asterion says, his step pausing, "I've never told you my first name. Asterion is my family name. Fox. My name is Fox."
Cato is walking along and listening, but when he hears Asterion's last proclamation, he comes to a dead stop.

Crossbow falling to a one hand grip, he glares at his friend. Speechless for several seconds, Cato regathers himself, but still stumbles over the words, "What...this time and....WHAT?"

Cato is at a loss and shakes his head at Asterion as he turns around.

"Fox?!", he asks, incredulously.

The Professor, surmising there is little of value to be gained at the lodge, politely thanked the dragonborn for his time and exited the lodge.

Annoyed at himself for wasting time with the Hunter's Lodge, the gnome hurried back to the Ancient Spade, passing his now fading conjured sign as he did.

Entering the tavern, the gnome caught the end of what appeared to be a salesman pitch from a greasy looking fellow offering his services. He noted Skyro's retort, pleased he had secured valuable information from the victimised dwarf.

Strolling toward this strange man, Vortrin took some time to closely examine his garb and body language before he passed too searing a judgement.

"Indeed, safety in numbers right?" Deruvid gets up thanking the dwarf and following Skyro.

Skyro you notice something is off about this guy. Outside of a phony sales pitch he has going on the suit of armor he adorns is obviously way to big to fit him. You get the impression that his intentions are anything but of being nice or running a business. No. You instead get the feeling that his intentions are much more sinister.

"Well of course. With the Dwarf there, and this gnome whose behind me it seems you may very well have a worthy group of adventurers. Please do send friends of yours though that need a bit more help getting to the caverns my way if you come across them! I just recently got back from my latest guiding excursion out west and it was met with great success!" He smiles at you and begins to cheerily look for a table.
OOC:
Everyone please check the OOC thread when possible. Figure I would discuss insight checks in there early on

The Dragonborn grits his teeth, This man is up to something, and I intend to find out.... but not here- should I "accept" his offer, and confront him after we've left town? he rubs his chin, The armor obviously doesn't fit, he's an "expert guide" of the west.... He says he recently got back from a guiding excursion.

Skyro lets P.D. take over conversation for a moment while he pulls out the scroll of instructions given to him just not too long ago. As a bounty hunter, he always makes sure to look over every detail, to not only get the job done, but to cover his own rear.

Skyro plays through the facts againArmor that doesn't fit, knowledge of the west, obviously deceptive... what does he mean by success of the last group he took on a guide? Where is said group?

Skyro reads an excerpt from the script, 'If you choose to go around and in the forests you must be ready for whatever strikes. Some shadow mages are known to practice their perverted magic"

It suddenly clicks, This man must be a dark mage. With a successful excursion last time, does that mean he experimented on them after deceiving them? The extensive knowledge of the west must mean he's from the forest. Also, that armor must've belonged to a poor fool falling for the facade, and I won't let that happen to me. he quickly glances up at the smiling man looking for a place to sit.

Before P.D., and Deruvin sit down alongside the man, he grabs both of their arms and tugs them over, Just one second sir, I'm just going to discuss your deal with my friends for a moment!

Leaning in, Skyro whispers, This man is a fake. Look at him, his armor doesn't fit, and he claims to guide us in that without worry? He knows well of the west, and I actually believe that part. Why? Because Skyro holds up the paper, and points to the excerpt, I believe him to be a mage who wants to lead us to a trap. His "successful excursion" probably meant he tricked a group, and did something with them- Again, look at the armor. It's obvious, and we need to be weary. Let's take the deal, so he stays alongside us,
but we should confront him after leaving town.
Skyro doesn't wait for a response, and assumes his companions will stick with his sudden plan. After all, they're not his bosses, so he doesn't need approval to act on his own suspicions.

He raises his voice a bit, making sure the man hears, He seems like a nice guy- having a guide couldn't hurt right? Let's take the deal. he turns to the man at the table, We'll take the deal sir. Lead the way!

The man looks around and noticed it's you whose called him. His look is a bit perplexed, and he seems confused. He shuffles a little bit at his table

"That's awful odd of you to change your mind so quickly. You had just said you have firm instructions!
Feb 21, 2018 5:16 pm
I sure hope I'm right about this...

Well maybe we should hire you in case these instructions turned out to be false. If we followed these, and ended up lost, that'd be quite embarrassing yes? the dragonborn shrugs, and smiles, How about it, eh?

The man seems to calm his senses at the intonation of your voice. His grip on his fresh ale loosens up and although possibly a bead of sweat could have dropped from his head he now seems to be back in control of his senses.

"Sorry if I came off as suspicious friend. I can most definitely show you the way! Infact, as a token of my good faith, I won't require payment until after we reach the caverns!" he says rather cheerfully. Before getting up he begins to gulp down much of the amber colored ale in his glass, with some of it messily spilling over the sides of his tan skinned mouth. He places the now half empty mug onto the table and wipes off his face before getting up and heading towards the door.

"You said you are ready to go? Well then off we go!"
and he begins to lead you guys west towards the caverns.

Im going to allow travel dialogue to continue for the next few hours but will time jump to the end of the first nights worth of travel by the end of the day, if not sooner

DMJ says:
"Fox?!", he asks, incredulously.
This time a full smile of true mirth breaks across Asterion's face. "I apologize for not telling you earlier, my friend. It's not a name I'm overly fond of." The smile fades. "I would appreciate if this stayed between us."

Still walking behind Leif and Awenasa, Elon builds up courage to speak to them. He speeds up try and get closer.

Excuse me, sir and miss! I do not mean to interrupt. My name is Elon, I was in the bar when all of the commotion took place. It seems you are on your way to the same place as I. I don't know many people, so I'm going out on a limb by following you two. Do you mind if I tag along as well? Safety in numbers and whatnot?

Deruvid follows Skyro as he is the only one he knows at all, but keeps his eye on the other druid.

Recovering from the quick confusion, Cato sees the concern on his friend's face. Cato snaps back to it, smiles and gives a laugh. He pushes Asterion on the shoulder, picking back up the pace on the trail.

"Alright. Alright," he says. "Fox is not so bad. But I see that you are gloating that you have two names and that you have a dramatic secret. You seem quite triumphant to me," he continues with a smirk, winding up his oration.

Stomping on through the drizzle, he picks the jeering back up again. "So that reminds me, I have something to tell you too, Lord Fox Asterion. I have been withholding my full name from you as well. Cato is my first name, but my last name is ...King's Son. Yes, you heard correctly. Kingson."

He continues the charade. "By now, you may have you guessed it: I am really a prince. A prince from a foreign land, a land that has many dark-skinned people just like me. My father is a king. In fact, my father is very wealthy, and so is my mother, for she is the Queen. My real home is a castle. I have many horses and servants. And I usually eat roast duck and softwheel cheese and all sorts of cakes. I have just taken some time away from the royal life, to spend some time with the common aristocracy like yourself, see how things are on the ground, here in the rain, on this trail, before I return to claim my inheritance."

He finishes it out, "So yes, old friend, that's the name I've been reluctant to share with you. You understand. So just stick with me and you won't regret it. You'll see, Lord Asterion. You'll see who has the mightiest family name in the end. Ha!"

Cato prods along behind, trying to keep the moment light. The truth that Cato had no family name, he buried that. The fact that his mother, a foreigner, sold him into slavery when he had only known six winters - the fact that his father was a landowner who did not even know he existed, would never even acknowledge him - the fact that the woman who had raised him more than anyone else was a cruel witch who beat him, marked him, tormented him with hexes and nightmares - Cato buried all this. Asterion knew most of this already, but Cato did not want to revisit it now, in this talk of families and names. He buried those things where they belonged.

Asterion was worried about a name. Cato wanted him to take it lightly and feel no unease. Names did not matter.

We now timehop to the evening. feel free to continue on dialogue but for sake of events that days travel has concluded

The night sky is beginning to creep its way onto the plains of Arathus. Slowly but surely, the rain concluded for the day, leaving the ground covered in pools of mud and puddles. The air feels good on your skin, perhaps due to the respite it gives from the dampness of the rain.

Elijiah expertly keeps pace towards the west, with Deruvid Professor Vortrin, and Skyro following behind. It is not before long into the dusk that they see two familiar figures infront of them by a bit of a distance, Cato and Asterion. To the left of you 5 is the a forest. The opening of the forest is somewhat welcoming in that small critters every now and again pop their way out into the plains before going back in, but the mere quietness of it at night gives you a chill that travels its way down your spine.

The ground is starting to become pretty hill like, and in the distance you see the outline of another forest beginning to emerge to your right. The tall pine and oak like trees stand high to greet the evening sky as the clouds clear away to behold a sky lit full of stars overhead, some seeming to twinkle just a bit more than others.

For Awanesa, Elon, and Leif, things look a little different. At one point the forest was to the left of you, at another point it seemed to be behind you, and now as night begins to enter you realize what you believe is the same forest on your left. The adverse weather may have clouded your sense of direction Awanesa as you begin to realize that you may have gotten lost at one point.

Skyro looks at Deruvid, and P.D., mouthing now while pointing at Elijiah. He slowly reaches for his greatsword, and awaits to see if P.D. and Deruvid are ready.
Feb 22, 2018 2:19 pm
"Ha! Well look who it is," Cato says to Asterion as Skyro, Vortrin, a dwarf, and an armored man approach off in the distance. Cato offers greetings and asks for introduction to the guide.

"Would you fellows care to join us then?," he asks. "We were about to decide which mud puddle to set up camp in."

Cato tries to take note of the demeanor and mannerisms of the new guy, hasn't seen him before. He also starts thinking about how to set up a good camp, somewhere they can stay as dry as possible and still be able to keep a watchful eye on the forest.

Cato then sees the dragon man draw his sword on the man in his own group.

"What's going on?," Cato asks with concern to Asterion. Crossbow in hand, Cato accompanies Asterion on approach.
OOC:
DM AWS, cool night ambiance background video.
OOC:
Sorry, Stud. I inadvertently over-posted your last entry for Skyro, didn't see it while I was typing. I'll adjust retcon if you guys are kicking off some action that Cato and Asterion witness that would change the demeanor of the meeting.
OOC:
Ya, I adjusted that. Saw that the scene went a different way than my initial visual of it.
