Round 1 Summary
The elven warriors draw fine weapons - an assortment of slender swords, hatchets, and whips. The two on the far side of the round table leap upon it and move forward, and then the three charge the party.
Arrows, glaive, and fire bolt fly to meet the strange elves, but they show no acknowledgment of pain. Fergy and Ras fall into spellcasting.
Just before reaching Alalla and Ug, the three elves melt into some strange kind of black liquid. Without losing any of their momentum, they streak between and around the two heroes and reform among the rest of the party, weapons blurring as they strike.
One of them appears between Ras and Erevain, sword diving at the gnome. Erevain tries to deflect the blow with his shield, but the enemy is too quick. Ras feels the sword dig along his ribs, the pain amplified by debilitating corruption (Ras takes 41 damage). The elf fluidly drops to one leg and pivots, the other leg sweeping beneath Ras to knock the gnome to the floor (Ras is knocked prone). In a flash the elf tucks into a roll and spins about, regaining his footing and scoring a cut along Erevain's thigh (Erevain takes 38 damage) - and then the elf warrior drops, Alalla's new handaxe stuck in the back of its skull.
Another of the elves descends on Fergy, a nasty whip cracking at the dwarf. As each near miss is accentuated by the snap of the whip, Fergy finds himself very grateful for his wealth of protective magical items!
The third elf swings at Zenithral with twin hatchets, but the archer manages to twist away from the initial attack. Zenithral's precarious footing betrays him, however, and as the half-elf rolls his ankle on the surrounding rubble, his opponent manages to graze one arm (Zen takes 12 slashing damage). Like lightning the elf moves to strike again, but Zenithral deflects the attack with a spin of his bow.
Just then, sorcerer and druid complete their spells. Both remaining elves succumb to the sorcerer's chaos magic, and one of them completely freezes in place as Ras overcomes its mind.
As Alalla and Ug turn to catch up and engage these strange elves, they both feel a dead weight in their chest. There is another presence within the room. Hearing only the faintest of whooshes in the air, Ug barely ducks away from an invisible spear tip. The weapon and its owner appear - another elf (Elf Captain). This newcomer whirls the spear in its hands, and the tip slices across Alalla's cheek (Al takes 43 damage). The cut itself is minimal, but the corruption... Alalla and Ug can feel just how wrong this place is.
As close to this corrupted elf as they are, both Ug and Alalla feel their minds start to wander. Even Fergy, more than a dozen feet away, feels the effects. The three heroes feel their minds start to detach from reality.
In the blink of an eye, the new elf vanishes once more - but from the party's unease, they know it can't be too far away.
