"Eh, nevermind, you lot don't have enough wits to play 'tea party'. And I've seen stuffed animals excel at it."

Ug sets a firm stance, his maul brought to bare in a blocking gesture. He would not let these monstrosities through to his friends again. A thick layer of ice grows across his chest ready to absorb any potential impact. He lets out a low growl.

Ug takes the dodge action and will use stones endurance next turn.

Seeing the party burst into action, Ras lingers behind the rest. He peeks between his friends in front of him and assesses the situation He eyes one of the warriors and waves his hand him.

Still recovering from the psychic scream in the room below, Erevain hangs back behind Alalla and Ug. He draws his sword and settles into a wide stance, blade stretched far away from his body. The toe of one boot traces a line in the dusty stone floor, and then he spins, whirling about and snapping his blade like a whip toward one of the strange elves. A ball of intense fire leaves the tip of his sword, crackles across the way, and slams into the elf.

Erevain deals 44 fire damage to elf warrior 1.

Round 1 Summary

The elven warriors draw fine weapons - an assortment of slender swords, hatchets, and whips. The two on the far side of the round table leap upon it and move forward, and then the three charge the party.

Arrows, glaive, and fire bolt fly to meet the strange elves, but they show no acknowledgment of pain. Fergy and Ras fall into spellcasting.

Just before reaching Alalla and Ug, the three elves melt into some strange kind of black liquid. Without losing any of their momentum, they streak between and around the two heroes and reform among the rest of the party, weapons blurring as they strike.

One of them appears between Ras and Erevain, sword diving at the gnome. Erevain tries to deflect the blow with his shield, but the enemy is too quick. Ras feels the sword dig along his ribs, the pain amplified by debilitating corruption (Ras takes 41 damage). The elf fluidly drops to one leg and pivots, the other leg sweeping beneath Ras to knock the gnome to the floor (Ras is knocked prone). In a flash the elf tucks into a roll and spins about, regaining his footing and scoring a cut along Erevain's thigh (Erevain takes 38 damage) - and then the elf warrior drops, Alalla's new handaxe stuck in the back of its skull.

Another of the elves descends on Fergy, a nasty whip cracking at the dwarf. As each near miss is accentuated by the snap of the whip, Fergy finds himself very grateful for his wealth of protective magical items!

The third elf swings at Zenithral with twin hatchets, but the archer manages to twist away from the initial attack. Zenithral's precarious footing betrays him, however, and as the half-elf rolls his ankle on the surrounding rubble, his opponent manages to graze one arm (Zen takes 12 slashing damage). Like lightning the elf moves to strike again, but Zenithral deflects the attack with a spin of his bow.

Just then, sorcerer and druid complete their spells. Both remaining elves succumb to the sorcerer's chaos magic, and one of them completely freezes in place as Ras overcomes its mind.

As Alalla and Ug turn to catch up and engage these strange elves, they both feel a dead weight in their chest. There is another presence within the room. Hearing only the faintest of whooshes in the air, Ug barely ducks away from an invisible spear tip. The weapon and its owner appear - another elf (Elf Captain). This newcomer whirls the spear in its hands, and the tip slices across Alalla's cheek (Al takes 43 damage). The cut itself is minimal, but the corruption... Alalla and Ug can feel just how wrong this place is.

As close to this corrupted elf as they are, both Ug and Alalla feel their minds start to wander. Even Fergy, more than a dozen feet away, feels the effects. The three heroes feel their minds start to detach from reality.

In the blink of an eye, the new elf vanishes once more - but from the party's unease, they know it can't be too far away.

Al turns and strikes, discovering too late that it is just Ug.

Ras cries out as his friends attacks him. Things are getting out of control. Hearing Fergy yell something about Flumphs, Ras realizes that his friend is being manipulated somehow. They need to end this quickly!

With a roar, he turns and shoots lightning at the first elf he sees.

Round 2 Summary

As half the party stumbles about in magically-induced confusion, the other half battles desperately for their lives.

Fergy clubs Ras across the face with his quarterstaff, but Ras manages to maintain focus on his paralysis spell long enough for his other friends to do their work.

Meanwhile, Fergy's true opponent is denied all satisfaction as it continues to be thwarted again and again by the dwarf's magical cloak.

At point blank Zenithral fires a fistful of arrows at the paralyzed elf. The elf's motionless form emits a hum, and Zenithral wonders if it might burst free of its magical bonds, when the vibrating tip of Erevain's sword bursts through the elf's chest with peal of thunder (Zen and Erevain deal lethal damage to Elf Warrior 3).

Erevain rips his sword from the elf's back and whirls to assault the other visible enemy. He scores several hits (Using Action Surge, Erevain deals 39 dmg to Elf 2), but his desperation costs him. A bolt of black energy strikes from the darkness, and Erevain falls - landing upon Ras blade first (Erevain takes 7 force damage and is knocked unconscious, and due to his Strain he crits on Ras! Ras takes 22 slashing damage).

Two more blasts of arcane energy crackle through the air - one that hits Alalla squarely (Al takes 12 force damage), and another that barely misses Ug. The caster of the magical attacks reveals himself as he drops from the air just behind Zenithral, and rams his spear through the distracted half-elf's thigh. Necrotic energy crawls across Zenithral's skin, but almost as quickly motes of light shine from his wounds to fight back against the corruption (After resistance, Zen takes 29 piercing and necrotic damage). The elf captain withdraws the spear tip and raises the weapon high. With a fierce, wordless growl, the elf brings the weapon down to skewer Zenithral through the chest - but the half-elf manages to deflect the blow (Zen casts Shield to turn that hit into a miss).

The fight is suddenly interrupted as Ras unleashes a powerful bolt of lightning that forks from one elf to the other. The closer elf warrior is slammed against the wall by the spell, but the elf captain drops nearly flat to avoid it. Still, motes of electricity can be scene sparking around him as he whips back upright, spear at the ready.

Al's hands tighten on her sword as Erevain falls once more. In the confusion she can't see how Ras is faring after his companion's attacking him, and her blade still bears Ug's blood. They're all going to die here. They should have turned back. They should have-

"ENOUGH," she shouts. She can still feel the spell like a cloud over her mind, so she turns it off.

Pure muscle memory fuels swing after swing at the elves. After all this time, Al's limbs don't need her to babysit them anymore, which is good, since her mind is occupied keeping her blazing anger under wraps. To let it loose in this place... she doubts she would make it out again.

Strike after strike. A sword to his gut. Putrid smell of burning intestines. A slice to the throat to finish him. The captain lies dead at her feet, and Alalla turns to the last remaining elf. Might as well complete the job. It takes only a single blow.

Round 3 Summary

The warrior snarls as Fergy continues to evade it, then turns on a much more willing target: the raging barbarian. The elf's whip cracks down once, twice on Ug's massive shoulders (After resistance, Ug takes 12 slashing damage), but the goliath continues on undaunted to deliver a blow to the captain that would have felled an elephant. There is a flash of frigid light, and Ug feels an unwelcome cold creep up his arms (Ug takes 25 cold damage). As he blinks, he finds the elf still standing. Still, Ug manages to barely yank his head away from the captain's retaliating spear thrust.

With fury barely kept in check, Alalla hits the captain like a flaming tidal wave. Black blood spills from his gut and throat, and he topples. Immediately, the confusion clouding the companions' minds dissipates. Alalla turns to the remaining warrior, and his whip provides only pitiful defense against her fiery wrath (Al takes 12 slashing damage).

Then a shuddering gasp comes from Erevain, and the companions turn to see the captain with one pale hand on the elf's face. Black veins spiderweb across Erevain's skin, and the captain rises, renewed (Erevain takes 50 necrotic damage, and the captain is healed 25). In a flash he is upon Alalla, corrupted spear catching her in the shoulder (Al takes 33 piercing/necrotic damage). The captain spits black blood through gritted teeth, eyes pools of maddening shadow.

As the fight continues, Ras' healing eases Erevain's wounds, and his eyes flash open. Using Ras' hand for support, he gets wearily to his feet.
