First of all, thanks so much for helping us out with this! We really appreciate any feedback you can give us about these character options. Hopefully this will all be a lot of fun as well 😉

Here are the subclasses we have available so far! Take a look at these brief descriptions and (according to what you read and understand) select one to be your first playtest. For right now, don't worry about party balance, just go with what you would like to try. Once you've posted your decision, I'll send you the details for your chosen subclass and you can go ahead and create a level 3 character.

Remember: Character Creation details for this group can be found on the Game Page. Feel free to ask questions!

I'm leaning towards the Dragonheart now that I read all that delicious Sigurd-like flavor text.

But I wouldn't be apposed to the Predator, Primal Stalker, Ruffian or the Symbiote.

Wizard of transfusion seems like it fills a role thats been missing: a class that enchants equipment on the fly.
That, and the Hero paladin seem the most interesting to me, but I would love to see some class features if you have them available.

I'll take last pick, and fill whatever playtesting gaps you need me to.

Ruffian and Bounty Hunter sound fun to me.

First, thank you for having me. All of these look awesome flavor-wise! I agree, it would be great to see the mechanics. I wiuld be down to play any of the martial classes. Are the Ranger options intended to work with the Revised Ranger?

Alrighty! With GP back up and running (for now - let's hope it stays that way!) I've added links to the mechanics for each subclass in the 'spoilers' above. Make your pick, and create a 3rd level character! And don't worry, you'll all likely end up with 2 or more characters, so don't feel completely glued to this first one. But your first playtest will a number of encounters with 3rd level characters.

As far as progress up to this point, the Ruffian and Primeval Stalker have currently been released on the DMs Guild for playtesting and feedback. The others are all a bit less polished, and in some cases may end up being lightly or heavily tweaked.

@Campeador: We had the PHB Ranger more specifically in mind with these subclasses, and that's what we'd like to see playtested first, but trying them out with the Revised Ranger would also be a good idea later on!

Depending on how many characters are ready and when, we may split into 2 or more groups to playtest simultaneously.

I think I'll first try out the Predator Ranger, Basilisk, when it comes time.

I expressed interest in the martial classes before, but I would like to play the Transfusion Wizard. For him to be effective though, someone has to play a tank.

I can tank with a Paladin of Heroism.

I rolled up Zigurd "Ziggy" Flametongue, Human Path of the Dragonheart Barbarian.

He's only on DnDBeyond, so I still have to transfer him over but he's on paper at least.

If you guys prefer to have your character sheets on D&D Beyond you can just submit sheets with a name only to post under for this group. Just send me a link to your sheet so I can look at it there.

@MattParody - Looks like you have successfully made it into the dnd beyond group.

Next playtest group 'heading out' will be Rettle (Predator Basilisk), Duren (Predator Wyvern), and Sedna (Primeval Stalker). I'd like to keep the number of players at 5, so we need 2 more. Anybody want to roll up a second character and join that group as well? It will be a different scenario than the first group is doing. All still 3rd level.

With 3 rangers already in the second group I was thinking of playing one of the Sorcs but Predator Ranger (Displacer Beast) sounds fun!

I could roll up another Predator or Bounty Hunter if we want this second group to keep their current vibe rocking.
Or I could try a Slaad guy.
Or I could let someone else hop in.

Don't want to seem greedy.

Looking at it now, it DOES say "to a maximum of your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1)" Sorry 'bout that! So Corunir's armor actually only holds 3 charges at the moment.

I just noticed Tip is fighting using whips. And remember now that you said you'd make a Predator? Are you doing Displacer Beast already?

Yes! She's was originally Yeti (hence her talking about screaming) but when Araklusta decided to use his alternate PbP combat rules we decided I should revamp her because of the sacrifices that rule set makes with initiative. If you want to try the Displacer Beast Predator I certainly don't mind, especially since yours will be in a different group anyway. More eyes than just mine on the option will be helpful, too.

Now I'm torn between making a Predator, cause they are on DnD Beyond or doing a Slaad Symbiote...

Both the Predator and the Symbiote are a little rough right now, so they both need playtesting! Either one would be useful.

If there's one you want on D&D Beyond that's not currently on there, just let me know, and I can whip it up. Basilisk and Displacer Beast are the only options in Predator built into D&D Beyond now, but I can add the others if anyone wants them in there.

@Carcabob I'd like to try the Slaad Symbiote, if you put that one together.

I have submitted Galtak my Duergar Ranger (Displacer Beast Predator archetype)

He will focus on melee using dual flails. Spell selection and inventory to be finalized.

@MattParody Slaad Symbiote sorcerous origin should be available now on D&D Beyond for characters submitted there. We recently realized that we'll need to revamp the subclass though since having Symbiotic Resistance at 1st level makes it a REALLY powerful multiclass option. But you're more than welcome to test the current version! Just know it might be changed.

@Campeador - this next playtest will be happening in Chult in the Forgotten Realms, which is a big jungle. So... I guess forest or swamp? This particular adventure is also along the coast.

In my head I already had Mage Armor up (something I would have done before entering a dungeon) but reading back now I realize I never stated it (and never spent the spell slot for it) so yeah my AC is 12 and that would have hit.

I will cast Mage Armor once we get a chance to rest. How about Fins Familiar? Can we say I had already ritual cast it before the adventure began?

Hey all, just popping in to say: We're so sorry! We really didn't mean to ghost on everyone like that, but a rough week turned into a rough month, and then the holidays looked like there might be relief on the other side of the busy, and then 2019 hit us like a truck.

We really appreciate the work that's been done to help us play test these new subclasses, so we're sorry to have to admit to ourselves and officially to you all what you have clearly known for a while, which is that this game (or series of them) is cancelled until further notice. We're also sorry we weren't more communicative as things were happening.

These subclasses have been a labour of love for Carcabob and Araklusta for a while now, and I know they want to get back to them at some point. In the meantime, we hope you had fun while it lasted, and that you stay subscribed to this thread just in case. If you use these subclasses in other games, please pop back in and leave us your feedback. We'd love to hear it.

All of the subclasses have received updates and we've added several more! Instead of continuing on Gamersplane, however, we have a Discord server, though it will still be play-by-post. With the D&D Beyond integration, it should be just as easy as Gamersplane for our purposes, if not moreso.

Again, I apologize for my absence. I got hit pretty bad with anxiety/depression and I'm still dealing with that blow. It was never my intention to invite you all to play and then abandon you! So we rolled initiative. But you described in the "Speedy PbP Combat"-Thread that we won't use initiative... I am confused.

You're right! I've been very confusing. With the game starting up anew I thought we'd keep turns traditional at least until we're all used to each other. If you guys get into a second combat maybe we'll try the speedy way.

For anyone who isn't currently in The Oozing Temple adventure, the next one I start will be 4th level! Feel free to pick one of the subclasses, make a 4th level character, and make your intention known. And of course, ask any questions you might have!

I'm very new and I'm very interested in this playtest! I'll give the lesser-tested subclasses a read and pick one that seems interesting.

I just noticed that I misread the "Dueling" fighting style... I read "another melee weapon" and thought that I could use a hand crossbow, combining with crossbow expert...

I'm just about ready to start the level 4 playtest, which will be called "The Night Blade" or something. I think that MattParody and SphericalSphere1 said they'd like to be in it. Preference goes to those not already in the Oozing Temple, but I'd like to fill this adventure out with 4 or 5 players. Anyone else want in?

Narratively, both Corunir's chain mail and his shield would have been corroded (or maybe just his shield, and chain mail was untouched)
1. Do we bother with such distinctions?
2. I don't suppose that means a net penalty of -2 AC if both are damaged?

Oh, I wouldn't give you a penalty for each of them. We'll just say -1, for whichever you prefer. The rules say that it's your armor, but if shield makes more sense we'll go with that. Up to you!

And did you make a ruling on my dragon rage flame-wreathed blade being immune to this corrosion, Araklusta?

I'd love to join with maybe a Hellfire Monk, but I'm already in the Oozing Temple, so will give way to others who aren't currently playing.

Since another game of mine just shut down, I'd love to join, too if there is space. (don't wanna take any space away from people who haven't played here yet.)

Depending on the setting, I'd maybe go for a ruffian (who'd make mutch more sense in an urban environment) or a rakshasa Sorc

So far nobody else has expressed any interest, so I'm happy to go with MattParody, Sphericalsphere, Jabes, and Caesar.

This adventure isn't urban, but maybe the next one I do will be. This will be typical frontier town stuff.

THat looks epic! I have chosen the Rakshasa Sorcerer, going for a charlatan background and probably not the most likable person... (Rakshasa Sorc comes with Expertise on Deception, which made the personality write itself.)

Nice! Yeah, I had my eye on Rakshasa Sorc, too! For my monk I'm imagining a real Lolth zealot -- somewhere in between Acolyte and Soldier. Can't quite decide which to take. If this were an actual campaign I'd probably go with the former, but I don't expect Insight and Religion will be as useful as Athletics and Intimidation (and Land Vehicles) for the playtest.

I have chosen the swordsage fighter, playing as a dwarven ex-soldier.

Yes, I second the idea that you share your character sheets with each other. For those new to Gamers Plane, I think there's an icon you can click on the 'My Characters' page that adds your character to the 'Library', letting anyone else see your character sheet. It looks like this:

Esteemed Playtesters!

You've probably noticed that my posting has slowed down somewhat the last couple of days. I have some personal and family stuff going on that needs my attention, but I hope to be back to regular posting by this weekend. I estimate (always tough with roleplaying games and pbp!) that the Oozing Temple adventure will probably be wrapped up in about 2 weeks. There's still plenty of adventure left in the Night Blade! And I aim to run at least a few more adventures once those two are complete.

In the meantime, please feel free to make some discussion about the subclasses! Currently I've set it so that each player can have like 5 characters. The next tier we'll playtest will probably be level 6 or 7, so think about what characters you'll want to have ready for those when the time comes.

Also, anyone else itching to DM is welcome to start their own playtest adventures here. Just let me know!

Playtesters! Apologies for the slow going and inconsistent posting. My family has had a lot going on. But we're getting things settled and we should find a new 'normal' soon. We just finished up the Oozing Temple, and I plan to continue on with the Night Blade. MattParody has graciously decided to run a playtest, so if you're looking for some action go ahead and communicate with him. Pretty soon I'll give details for anyone who wants to play a 7th level playtest, so be thinking about what characters you want to play for that.

Hey there, folks! I finally got around to posting in the Night Blade adventure, so tune into that one! Also, I've opened up a 7th level encounter called 'Orc Raid' for anybody who wants to be a part of that. Onward!

Anything you need us to do about modifying our characters from 3rd level to 7th level? My character could use some fresh equipment since his mace was rather severely damaged. I'm adding average hp and upgrading features.

Zigurd is going to be ready to throw down.

Hey folks, sorry my participation here has been so lame. Life feels like it never really gets right-side up before everything gets shaken up again. As much as I love pbp and Gamers Plane, my addled brain just can't focus on it the way that it could once upon a time. So I've decided to move forward differently with playtesting, though I understand that for many of you it won't be what you signed up for. Still, it's an open invitation!

I'm going to run a weekly playtest session on roll20, probably Friday evenings. If you're interested in being a part of it every once in a while, let me know and I'll send you some details! It'll probably be pretty casual, 2-3 hour sessions, no commitment to being there every week.

In any case, I have to end the game here on Gamers Plane. I wish I had the energy to keep it up, but with all my brain issues it's sadly just beyond me. If anyone is interested in running some scenarios here, I'm happy to enable that, but my time running (as short and lagging as it was) needs to be done.
