Barvek leads Hildar into the constabulary and as fortune would have it, one of his old drinking buddies from his guard days was working the front desk.

Nekurr laughs at the mention of his un-priestly looks. "Fortuna is a changing goddess, always wandering and never settling for one image or identity... so neither does her priesthood", the half-catfolk jokingly explains his appearance.
OOC:
so... what's up with this Kellos and Durvin overcoming the second darkness? what would nekurr know? I'll put 3 difficulties just in case ;)

oops, he thinks we're talking about Kellos, the wife of the fisherman! :o If the last difficulty doesn't count, can I use the advantage to ... I don't know...still remember the common knowledge :D Maybe make a suitable remark about Saint Durvin and improve Gaerros attitude towards us?
"Ah yes, fortunately you don't have to worry about Vizeron, it's [GM edit] her daughter his niece that needs some details clarified." With that said, Nekurr will discretely add, as a minor comment "So the old man's rent feels like extortion? That must have been some sweet deal he got back then..."
OOC:
GM Edit: adding a Boost die for the fact that you are a resident of Nornholt, where St. Durvin is the patron deity. I think Hard was the right difficulty. But the boost leaves you with 1 advantage, so we'll use that to let you notice some way to improve his temperament, sure.

Nera elects not to eat anything at the moment, at least not out of her own pocket. "Rumors. You heard anything about a crew making a score on the Dribbage estate?"

[ +- ] Barvek's old drinking buddy
As Barvek and Hildar enter the constabulary's main building, a gruff but feminine voice echoes across the room. "Barvek, you old devil! As I live and breathe. Tell me you're not so bored you want your old job back?" The Gnome recognizes the voice immediately: Barribelynn Bonebelly, a Dwarf who joined the guard about five years after Barvek did. With a bit of seniority, Barvek helped train the Dwarf in investigative tactics, and the two became fast friends (as immortalized in at least one Upper City tavern, which now sells a liquor called the Bonebelly Gnome). Since his retirement and subsequent employment at Argus, Barvek's ability to grab drinks with Barri have basically evaporated. But seeing her fills the Gnome with glee. She then nods to Hildar. "And tell me -- who's this tall drink of water. It's hot out. I could use a drink of water."
OOC:
So, you have an in for whatever you had in mind to do. Not to say you won't need to roll, of course. You could just ask her for general information about the Dribbage property, or the burglary, or you could ask for access to records if you'd like. Just make your pitch in the IC.

Nekurr wracks his brain to remember how Saint Durvin is related to Kellos, the god of fire who defeated the undead of the Second Darkness. Try as he might, he can't recall the connection. However, he does recall that the colors of the two deities differ, and there's some symbolism behind the distinction. He adds an offhand comment about how the blue and white of Saint Durvin have always seemed more intriguing than the boring red of Kellos.

The treasurer seems to consider you both for a moment. "Yes, of course. Which would you prefer? Mere fire, or the lightning that sparks it?" He squints and regards you for another moment. "There are no rents regarding the Dribbage property. The bequest is quite clear on that front. Our disdain for Mr. Dribbage stems from... other matters. But you were sent here by Vizeron Dribbage's niece? What on earth for?"
OOC:
OK, so let me know what you're looking for from this guy. Do you just want his cooperation to ask questions about the property? Or do you want him to let you look over the records the church has of the Dribbage property? Or do you want both?

Asking him questions (without accessing records) is going to be a Charm check. Difficulty is Hard (PPP). You get a setback for his suspicion of your claims to be a priest, but Mengus has a fine cloak on, which removes that setback. However, there is a second setback for all this talk about Vizeron Dribbage, which seems to have riled him up. You get a boost die for mentioning how clean the office is compared to the Kellos Cathedral. Let's assume Mengus is helping you, so that's one more boost die. Finally, since you mentioned you're not working for Vizeron Dribbage, but rather his nice, that's another boost. Final pool is YGGBBB + PPPBl

Asking to access records instead will be the same check, but with an additional blue and an additional black. The blue is for the fact that he suspects something's up and wants to prove that the church has rights to the cemetery. The black is because the records are proprietary.

Try either roll; with enough advantage (or a Triumph), you maybe able to get to both ask questions and see the deed.

Gorzo slurps down a long noodle from his bowl before answering. He then looks both of you in the eye warily. "The big house by the cemetery?" He chortles. "Hardly. No one'll go near that place. Why? Someone finally bit the bullet and burgled the old house? I ain't heard nothin' 'bout that."

Three questions remaining!

OOC:
Ahah 😅 yes generic family younger female... that’s what happens when you try to sneaks another post before going to sleep :(

I think I already mentioned I was looking for the records and was just making conversation as I waited for them;) let’s see how this goes. First, I’m not sure what I is :( second... I couldn’t see all the dice I was selecting on my mobile :( hopefully I rolled enough...
"I guess you can say that there isn’t fire without a little spark, right?" Nekurr jokes as the treasurer checks for the property records. "Can I also have a look at that bequest you mention? I think there was some trouble with some low lives breaking in, and Dribbage‘s niece needs to prove her claim before she can take care of the property. I guess it’s nothing major, but you can see why she’d worry." he continues explaining the situation, just making conversation, but avoiding bringing up the disappearance of the old man, while he waits for the records.

CESN, looks like you rolled too many positive dice. You have Presence 3 and 1 rank in Charm. That gives you YGG, not YGGG. (Presence 3 gives you GGG, and Charm 1 upgrades one of those G to Y, yielding YGG). Bl was for Black (so as not to confuse it with B for Blue). Maybe I should abbreviate it as K instead, as in CMYK?

I'll ignore your third G, since it was superfluous. You also rolled an extra K and B at the end there, but we can ignore them (they were blanks anyway). Final tally is 2 Success, 1 Advantage.

Can you explain what the second roll was for? Was that a mistake? Then I'll post the treasurer's response.

Right you are on the extra B & K. When I said you might be able to both access the records and ask questions, I meant that if the dice agreed (like if you got a Triumph), you could do both off of one single roll. Sorry for the confusion. 2 Success = you get to see 2 documents. Sounds good on the Advantage.
The treasurer scoffs. "I assure you there is nothing confusing or complicated about the church's claim to the Dribbage cemetery." He rummages through a leather folio on a shelf behind him for a moment and produces some documents. He lays the first flat on the desk. "As you can see here, this is the original statement signed by Captain Bentolin Dribbage over two centuries ago during the Third Darkness. Not so much a bequest, mind you; more of a writ of understanding." He then lays out a second document, this one with different signatures. "And here we have the most recent document acknowledging the transfer of this agreement to Vizeron Dribbage, current head of the family."
[ +- ] Document A
[ +- ] Document B
The monetary impetus for Vizeron Dribbage's niece to take over the property seems much clearer now. Due to a curse dating back to the Third Darkness, the farmlands around Nornholt have been unproductive for centuries. The fact that the family gets paid by the church for the cemetery thus means that their property is among the most expensive for miles!

As you peruse the materials, Bargretor can't help but grin. "You're being quite mum, but I take it from your comments that Vizeron Dribbage may no longer be with us? I look forward to signing a new one of these with this niece of his, then. I mean, after what he pulled after he got booted from the Order... But I've said too much on the matter."

"It seems they're trying to keep things quiet then." Nera responds with a smile, not getting the info she would want, but still helpful to their case. "But what's so special about the place, frightening off the thieves till now?"

Tronus smiles a bit since Nera has a good sense for her line of questions.

Just listening for now, not eating or drinking.
Jul 29, 2019 1:19 am
Gorzo looks again to both of you in the tavern. "You lot ain't gonna eat or drink nothin'? Feels like I'm eatin' me last meal." He gulps down some ale and says, "Haunted. Place is haunted. Well, least the graveyard is." He shuffles on his stool, turning his body away from you as if annoyed.
OOC:
Two questions left.
Jul 29, 2019 7:32 am
Nekurr quickly reads the documents "I see...". He smiles at Bargretor's comment. "Well, let's not get the cart before the horses. We're not sure if a new signature will be needed... yet." Sensing that asking directly what he meant about Vizeron's being kicked out of the Order may prevent further prodding into the issue, Nekurr simply adds "These documents are very helpful. I'll have to see what the others found out as well." Before leaving he adds "Is there anything else you can add to help us with this Dribbage issue?"
OOC:
How late is it getting? Is the (actual) library on the way to the property?

Bargretor folds up the documents and puts them back into their respective folios. He gives a thin smile. "I'm afraid the church can't comment further on the Dribbage property if there's a possibility that its ownership may be changing hands. I wish you luck in your investigations." He glances sideways at Mengus's large, unsheathed sword. "Please be careful on your way out. This is a place of worship. Good day."
OOC:
@CESN & @steef99: No need for another Charm check. Let's say it's been about 1 1/2 hours, putting you at just after noon. You probably have enough time to visit the library if you'd like. It's a ways east (#10 on the map), so let's say a 20-minute walk, 10 if you hire a wagon to take you (1 silver each).

I don't plan to track meals and such too religiously, but you are likely getting hungry, too. Budget in some time to buy rations or a meal somewhere.
Jul 29, 2019 5:24 pm
Weirdo. Nera rolls her eyes while his back is turned, and motions for a server to bring her some food.

"Really. And what's the story behind this? The lost spirit of a former owner?"
