Nekuur raises is eyes from the library books "It seems we must go meet the others". As he closes the book he looks at Mengus smiling "That was a productive morning. Another ride back to Hill's Gate?"
OOC:
I guess it is summary time for us as well :)
I'll flip two story points to test my heroic ability
"So, we have this noblewoman from Tamalir, miss Olarie Dribbage, moving to her uncle's place just outside Nornholt a couple of weeks ago. Turns out, Vizeron Dribbage, her uncle is missing for a year now!" Nekurr stops for a while thinking about what he just said. "Why now? I mean, he has been gone for quite awhile, no? Why is she only looking for him now and why did she move here at this time? I'll bet she wasn't invited by the missing uncle..."

"I also wonder is if there has been any troubles at the property before miss Dribbage's arrival... If someone broke in a couple of night ago, that must have been shortly after she moved in. Could she have been targeted? Someone trying to scare her out of the property?"
"Gaerros Bargretor was a nice guy wasn't he? It seems like the brothers of Saint Durvin are feeling... extorted by Vizeron's writ of understanding and looking forward to signing with a new owner. The old man wasn't happy about getting booted from the Order and was clearly making the brothers pay back for that. I wonder why he got kicked out though... What do you have to do to get expelled from a church?"

"On the other hand... the original deal with Captain Bentolin Dribbage was signed during the Third Darkness, before the land was cursed and became unproductive. Order of Saint Durvin struck a deal with the Captain to bury the dead on his land, since they had nowhere to bury all the bodies from the war. They seemed particularly careful in making sure those buried received the proper Rites and Burials to avoid another Plague of the Undead. That must have been a terrible time don't you think Mengus?" Nekurr stays silent for awhile, his thoughts traveling back to the present "At that time the deal was probably fair, but getting paid for the produce the land is no longer giving, makes Dribbage's graveyard a gold mine nowadays. Do you think a noblewoman like miss Dribbage would be needing that money for something? "

"something doesn't add up but hey more work equals more money"

At the attention Hildar flushes somewhat embarrassed at the attention. As Barvek suggests a tavern the elf relaxes a touch "Yes, a tavern would be better for a drink and a private discussion....not that we are asking you to disclose anything you shouldn't of course" he finishes in a bit of a rush, most of the words running into one another

At the constabulary, Barribelynn Bonebelly returns her attention to Barvek and sighs. "I'm on duty for another hour, then I get a break. Taverns and tales'll the to wait till then, old boy!" She purses her lips as if in thought. "In the meantime, give me just a moment. I'll see what I can do."

Barri disappears through a doorway. In her absence, the two of you witness the everyday procedures of the constabulary and barracks: guards leaving for patrol and coming in for breaks from the heat, a half-hearted session of spear-fighting practice by a group of new recruits in the courtyard, even a pair of humans brought in for disorderly conduct.

The dwarf comes back after about ten minutes. She looks confused. "Barvy, you say you're looking into a break-in at the old Dribbage place? The one by the cemetery? I just checked with our record-keeper, and this is the first we've heard of anything."

Loving the summaries, folks! Very helpful and useful thing to do in a game like this that is about connecting dots. Sending a note to CESN to clarify his use of his Heroic Ability.

"That is odd. Our employer was told by the property owner's niece that there was a break in a few days ago. I wonder why it wasn't reported through all the official channels. " Barvek ponders on that thought for a minute. "Well we have a meeting with our client this afternoon. I'll have to look deeper into this "burglary" then." His attention returns to Barri. "My lunch offer still stands."

"Well, now, that is curious," Barribelynn says. "I think you've just given me the excuse I needed to take an early lunch." The ruddy-faced Dwarf turns to a fellow officer, an Elf Barvek recognizes, though he can't remember the name. "Trolvyn, cover for me. I'm checking up on a possible burglary." The Elf barely looks up from his parchment as he gives a cursory salute. Barri leads the two of you out the door and into the heat of the late morning. "How 'bout that old Fishmonger place we used to like? It's just 'round the corner."
OOC:
arMedBeta and mcneils5, let's cut to the tavern, assuming you've all got meals and something to drink. (Remember you get 10 silvers each per diem, so should be within that.) Feel free to pose a few more questions to Barribelynn before you have to run to catch the others. IRL, let's try to get this done in the next day or so?

As Nekurr and Mengus look for a cart to take them to the gate, a pair of old women pass, both dressed in vestments of Saint Durvin. "Another burial scheduled for next week," the first says.

The second answers, "I know, I know. I'm a bit sick of them to tell the truth. I've done three funerals this week already."

The first woman chuckles. "But you're the best! Somebody's got to keep up the wards against necromancy. Nobody wants to see old Uncle Chester wandering through town reeking of embalming fluid!" The nuns disappear giggling into the crowd, gone as quickly as they appeared.

Nekurr looks at the nuns and then surprised at Mengus. "Uncle Chestser is gone? Did you know?". After the surprise, Nekurr relaxes a bit "Well, at least we can be sure the burial will have the proper rites"
OOC:
so to explain to the other players :) my heroic power is divination, which allows me to ask yes/no questions to the GM. We were basically discussing how it could be introduced as a "lucky" finding in game and this was the result :D

As they are walking Hildar ponders things "I have to admit it is quite odd that they would not report the burglary. Are you aware of many such incidents that do not get reported to your office?" he asks Barri
Aug 1, 2019 8:46 pm
The tavern is indeed nearby, and stepping inside is quite a relief from the hot street. It takes a moment for your eyes to adjust to the dim interior, but Barri answer's Hildar's query: "Far's I know, most burglaries get reported, or we catch 'em in the act. Least in town." She finds a big, wooden table and takes one of stools. "We handle the farmhouses outside town, too, but most folks out that way have their own security--dogs, guards, and the like." She wipes her brow and leans back, thinking about the next words. "I'm actually pretty surprised someone had the guts to break into the Dribbage place. Most folk are too superstitious. Lotta folk think the cemetery's haunted, or a secret witches' coven. Every once in a while someone'll report that kind of nonsense out that way."
Aug 2, 2019 2:59 am
Barvek lets out a deep belly laugh as he takes a seat beside Barri. "People will believe anything," He nudges Barri with his elbow. "You remember the case where the one lady killed her neighbor's cat because she thought she could cast a spell with its entrails to make her thinner. Hahaha. Didn't work." After they order, Barvek asks, "Do you know anything about Vizeron Dribbage? Or his niece from Tamalir? I think her name was Olarie."
Aug 2, 2019 3:21 pm
Barri nearly spills her ale laughing. "I'd forgotten about that cat case! Poor puss. I seen a few tracks out at the cemetery--goats maybe? But never any entrails!" Her laughter subsides with a sigh as she slurps a spoonful of mutton stew. "So when I asked about the burglary, my captain said Dribbage has been pretty quiet except for one incident, way before my time. Seems the guy spent a night in jail when he refused to leave Saint Durvin Cathedral. Guess he was a monk there for a time, but he got drummed out of the order and refused to leave." She shrugs and says, "Ain't heard a thing about his niece."
OOC:
Why don't you each pose an additional followup? Hopefully we can move on to the next phase of the investigation sometime early next week.
Aug 3, 2019 4:40 pm
Barvek takes a drink of his mead. "His niece moved into his estate a few weeks ago. She said he's been gone from the property for over a year. We've been hired by her to find Dribbage. Do you know anyone who might have been keeping tabs on him? Or someone he may have been in regular contact with?"
Aug 3, 2019 7:35 pm
"Probably says something if he's been gone over a year without anyone saying anything," Barri says, brows raised. "Not many folk out that way, but he does have a neighbor, if I recall. Just up a pace down the road past the graveyard. The Stonebriars? Stonethorns? Something like that. They might know something."

Any final questions for Barri before we move on?
