"Oh yes, we found some clear signs of a break-in, very useful leads to hunt." Nera sounds very pleased with their assessment, but not cocky. She wouldn't want to appear as if this wasn't a serious matter after all.
OOC:
Since I'm not holding any contraband the best I can do is back them up with some deception.

"What in the name of..." Nekurr exclaims surprises as Hildar magically rebuilds a dragon egg! He grabs the egg and leaves. As lady Dribbage asks about the investigation, the cleric answers with a smile "We are not sure where your uncle is yet. However, it seems that whoever broke in knew exactly what they were look for, so they probably knew your uncle very well..." he shows the completely unbroken egg "See this here? It was just next to where the thief was, yet this beautiful and valuable piece was untouched, unlike the book shelf." Nekurr then shows the Saint Durvin book and continues, counting on Olarie's cooperative mood. "We found some interesting reads that will take some time to finish. Do you mind if we take them for a while?"
OOC:
I'd use the advantage to allow the other more sensitive documents to be taken as well :D

Rolls

charm (normal + blessing?)

3 Success, 3 Advantage, 1 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 2 Success, 1 Advantage

As Nera and Nekurr talk with Lady Dribbage Hildar loiters at the rear of the group hoping she doesn't spot the book he has secreted away.
OOC:
From check when I examined the book for reference:
SavageBob says:
[mcneils, what a weird roll! Go ahead and use 4 of those to get back to full strain. For the other 2, we can always say the book is perfectly shaped to slip into your satchel, granting you +2 boosts on any Stealth checks to sneak it out.
Also would I be able to pick an extra boost die up due to not trying to draw her eye whilst the others are taling? Will roll one separately just in case

Ok, didn't go well, can I burn the advantages for her to spot the book but to just assume I'm not trying to steal it (off the back of Nekurr's request)?

"I've found a few leads to run down questions on I'd like to talk to a consultant, one of which is in Northolt. Unless you know who the marble bust depicts Lady Dribbage." Tronus states wedging the book under his arm while he thinks, "Although late I think we've still some time to run down things for the investigation today if you'd prefer to get back to things." he adds with a nod.
OOC:
That roll result makes sense. XD.

Rolls

Dwarven Stealth

2 Advantage, 2 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 2 Failure, 1 Advantage

Aug 29, 2019 1:50 pm
OOC:
Hahaha! Yes, the advantages rolled, coupled with Nekurr's charm offensive, are enough to convince her to give you the benefit of the doubt.
Lady Dribbage takes the ornate egg in hand and smiles at Nekurr. "It is exquisite, isn't it?" She continues, clearly admiring the piece. "I'm actually shocked this thing wasn't taken in the burglary. These bejeweled dragon eggs are famously expensive." Returning her gaze to the inquisitors, she says, "I'm glad you found some leads in there about my uncle. Yes, feel free to take what you need." She makes eye contact with Hildar and Tronus, clearly aware they have documents or books on them. "I'll hold onto the egg. So what was taken from the study? Were you able to tell?"
OOC:
Since CESN is on vacation, someone else may need to respond to her query.
Aug 29, 2019 3:52 pm
Barvek raises the two ledgers he is holding. "I found these that could be useful. It may take some time to figure out exactly what they mean."
Aug 30, 2019 12:40 am
"Of course! No problem," the lady replies. "Now, did you determine what the burglar was after?"
Aug 30, 2019 9:25 am
Hildar coughs softly to clear his throat before speaking "It appears they took a book, well, at least one. There were some tracks that lead to a bookcase and then they seemed to head straight back out. On the same spot on the bookcase there is a gap which leads us to thing that whatever was previously there is what the thief took"
Aug 30, 2019 12:44 pm
The lady seems a bit perplexed about why anyone would break in and steal a book while leaving a priceless piece of art. Nevertheless, she thanks you for your work and asks to be kept abreast of any further developments. With an hour of sunlight left, you bid her farewell and head back outside the house to discuss your next steps.
OOC:
OK, so let me know what you want to do next. Head back to town to read through documents? Check out the cemetery (it's right next door)? Visit the neighbors? Something else?
Aug 30, 2019 1:10 pm
OOC:
Northholt sounds like a next day trip, reading through the documents can be done at night.
"So should we inquire a good date to meet with the neighbors at a later time? Also looking at the Cemetery at night although odd is something I think we should confirm..." Tronus offers up.
Aug 30, 2019 1:46 pm
Hildar nods in agreement "We should really do as much as we can whilst we are here. Checking to see if the neighbours are available before it's get's too late might be advisable"
Aug 30, 2019 3:46 pm
OOC:
agree: check neighbors and then go back to town through the cemetery at night
Aug 30, 2019 4:42 pm
"I also wish to meet the neighbors, especially if-" Nera scoots right up to Hildar, finally finding a chance to show her appreciation for his repair job now that the darling Lady Olaire isn't right next to them. "You have any more useful tricks up your sleeve."
Aug 31, 2019 5:52 pm
OOC:
Sorry for the delay. Gamers Plane was down most of yesterday for me. I'll move the group up to the neighbors' house soon. In the interim, anyone who is suffering strain (at least Nekurr, I think) can roll a simple Cool or Discipline check to represent refreshing your mind on the walk over -- roll whichever skill is higher, with no difficulty dice or setbacks. You get back 1 strain for every Success you roll.
Aug 31, 2019 6:28 pm
OOC:
hey i'm back i was moving and didn't have internet for days what did i miss?

The setting sun hasn't done anything for the heat. Even the boards of the seats in the horse cart burn to the touch, forcing you to be careful getting seated. At least there's no need to get directions to the Thistlerock residence, since there only seems to be one other residence anywhere close to the cemetery. Your horse cart finds the road from the Dribbage house smooth enough; the only possible side path leads into a small copse of trees to a thatch-roofed cottage with a large wooden fence behind it.
[ +- ] Thistlerock Cottage
As your cart draws nearer, you hear the sound of dogs barking and yipping in the distance. A figure pokes his head out from the front door; he has a full beard and a topknot. He exits the house, followed by three other figures: A burly, bald man, a pale-haired woman, and a skinny boy with spectacles. The first man speaks, directing his gaze at Tronus, who has the reins: "You best turn back around. This is private property."
[ +- ] The Thistlerocks
OOC:
Setback for Tronus's racial ability, another for acting against your motivations to speak to them. Success means Tronus suffers 3 strain (1 for the success + 2 more uncanceled successes). 3 Threats: How do you want to use them? (Feel free to make something up, or use the chart in the OOC resource thread.)

This is a semi-structured social encounter. You are all free to direct social checks toward any of the four figures, but the one with the topknot and beard is clearly in charge. Successful social checks will whittle away at their strain thresholds and get them to agree to talk to you. So just post what your character is saying (in general at least) and to whom they are directing their comments. (Or let me know if you've snuck off the back and are sneaking around the house or something.)

By the way, we'll call it a "session" after this social "combat" is over. Those of you with once-per-session abilities (like Heroic Abilities) may want to use them here!

Rolls

Coercion check on Tronus

3 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Failure, 4 Threat

Total: 2 Success, 3 Threat

Barvek drops out of the cart and extends a hand toward the man addressing them, "Hello there. Sorry for the lateness of the hour, but I'm Barvek and we're with Argus Investigations. We were wondering if we might be able to ask you some questions." He grins as he looks up at the man.

OOC:
Sounds like a basic Charm check, arMedBeta. Please roll Charm vs. RPP.
Sep 2, 2019 1:29 am
"Of course its private, yud have ta be quite dat to build a cottage on public land." Tronus sits back furrowing his brow meeting grisly curmudgeon with the dwarven counterpart.
OOC:
using clever retort to tack on two more threat, 3 threat to buy their fear and two to buy knowing their strength.
Sep 2, 2019 2:06 am
The white-haired woman chuckles. "Real jokester, huh? Well, then you should know an estate like this can't survive if every Dwarf, Elf, and Catfolk in the baronies tries to take advantage of us." Glancing at the state of the house, you get the impression they are indeed in financial trouble.

The skinny boy shrugs. "But we're Thistlerocks. We endure."

The big, bald man speaks: "So get lost already!" The threat makes Tronus wonder if the big man might truly be the violent type.
OOC:
Fear: Imminent financial ruin.
Strength: Resilience.

Note to new players: If you can somehow appeal to these motivations, you get boost dice on your checks against them.

Barvek still needs to roll his Charm check, as outlined above. (I'll reveal the result of the Triumph after that roll gets made.) But with that roll (which I'm shocked succeeded), Tronus takes 3 more strain. Remnant, 2 more Threat for you to spend on them, too.

Rolls

Coercion vs. Tronus

3 Success, 1 Triumph, 2 Threat

Total: 3 Success, 2 Threat, 1 Triumph
