OOC:
Sorry, completely missed that we were entering combat.

Barvek charges in using both his maneuvers to get as close as he can. He tries to quickly asses the situation and help marshal his allies' movements and attacks.
OOC:
Potentially trying to help everyone be a bit more coordinated. I do see that this is in the same area as improved Inspiring Rhetoric, not sure if I would be able to do that.

OOC:
Yeah, there are cool things you can do with Leadership, but a lot of it requires talents, and I don't want to cheapen those.

So, two possibilities: Thornil is still in the house, but you could yell after him using a Leadership check to get him to do something helpful. Difficulty is Average (PP) with a Setback for him being out of sight. Like, ask him to get some attack dogs, or to get a weapon, or something else.

Second option is Knowledge (Adventuring) to assess the area, possibly ascertain some tactical benefits. Let's say Average (PP).

I'll go ahead and advance to the next round sometime this afternoon, but with Barvek and the others further back, it won't break anything if you want to roll one of these before your next turn. (You'll take two strain for the second maneuver in this case.)
Sep 12, 2019 2:10 pm
Barvek shouts toward the house. "Thornil, we could really use your help. Get some dogs out here!"
OOC:
removing setback with knack for it
Feeling the rush of battle brings him a sense of calm. Barvek steels himself for the fight.
OOC:
Using the advantage to recover a strain.

Thornil stumbles out of the house, roused by Barvek and the commotion. "What the—" He sees everyone rushing toward the woods. He grabs a nearby hatchet and starts down the back steps toward the dog run.
OOC:
We've wrapped back around, so two PCs are up. A reminder: Nera and Tronus are farther into the forest, on the other side of the fray from the rest of you. Nera is closest to the commotion; she needs one more Move maneuver to get to Short range due to the difficult undergrowth. Tronus is at Medium range and needs two Moves to get to Short.

Nekurr, Barvek, Hildar, Gallen, and the two conjured suits of armor are at Medium range from the fracas, but you also face difficult terrain; you will have to spend two Move maneuvers to get to Short range. The fight is currently hidden behind trees, as the path to it is a bit circuitous.

Thornil is in the back, at Long range, having just exited the cottage.

2 PCs are up! If Nekurr wants to try another Augment, he can use it on anyone near him, but not on Tronus, Nera, Benji, or Lyssie.

"Watch boy be my eyes!" Tronus barks moving forward into the thick forest.
OOC:
Double maneuver to Short band
Sep 12, 2019 7:27 pm
As he rounds some thorns in the underbrush, Tronus finds himself near the tree that Benji has climbed into. Just beyond, the trees open into a small clearing, where Lyssie lies on the ground, kicking frantically at six attackers. Benji, meanwhile, is beset by three more. On first glance, they look to Tronus like haggard dogs. That is, except for their glowing eyes...
OOC:
Remnant, please make an average (PP) Fear check (Discipline). This will apply to all of you as you make it to Short range and can see the beasts (so as soon as you move this turn, most likely).

Tronus shifts his weigh looking at the beast he thought to be dogs originally.

"I don't know how to raise dogs but you're doing it wrong. Nera if you can put em down."
OOC:
unsure if I can pass a boost to her with the advantage, if not I'll regain strain from andrenaline rush.

Nera silently follows after Tronus. The sight of these...dogs causes her to gasp from fear. She'll have to set aside this fear however, as there are Thistlerocks to save.
OOC:
I would like to attack (with sniper shot as per the triumph), but I should check if the difficulty for short range has changed at all due to the threat.

OOC:
Go ahead and add a boost to the fear check from Tronus warning you about the dogs. If that wipes out the Threat, you're good to go. If not, I'll impose a setback on the check to represent Nera being momentarily taken aback.

OOC:
Hey uh, does extra success get me anything? Also what is sniper shot, I can't find it in the rulebook or ROT.

OOC:
I'm away from my books, so let me look up Fear Checks when I get home. I'll let you know then if the extra success does anything.

I don't see Sniper Shot either. Do you mean Painful Blow? You have that talent. You would roll vs. PP (+1 from the normal short-range difficulty), plus the setback from the fear check threat. If you hit, the target suffers 2 strain each time they take a maneuver. Not bad for minions.

OOC:
I'm referring to last page where you said:
SavageBob says:
For the Triumph, I think a sniper shot works, but it will have to be next turn after you've gotten fully into Short range and can see them..
So I'm looking to cash in the triumph on my shot (unless the free extra round of stealth was the full extent.)

OOC:
Oh, I see. I merely meant that you could get a shot off without drawing attention to yourself. In other words, you don't have to worry about being attacked this round, as they won't know where the shot came from.

OOC:
Somebox, just rechecked the fear check rules. Extra successes don't do anything really. And forget the setback; let's say the Threat you rolled instead represents an adrenaline rush! You roll a boost on your next check, but you also suffer 3 strain.

Again, the Triumph means you can get a shot off without being detected until your next turn.

Nera lets loose an arrow into one of the dogs surrounding Lyssie.
OOC:
3 strain? Oof that hurts.

Wowie that roll also hurts, uhhh the dogs I targeted get a setback on their next action.

2 Success, 2 Advantage, 2 Failure

Total: 2 Advantage

Nera's arrow sails just above the haunches of one of the dogs, plunking into the trunk of a tree at the edge of the clearing. The dogs turn their attention to the arrow, but they don't seem to have noticed the Catfolk who shot it... yet.

Meanwhile, Lyssie seems to have realized her dire predicament. She yanks a dagger from her belt, screams, and stabs it upward at the dogs besetting her. The creature yelps as the blade buries itself deep it its neck. It recoils, flinging the blade out of Lyssie's grasp and to the ground nearby.
OOC:
5 damage to the creature, but she's now disarmed! Benji is up next; stay tuned...
[ +- ] Initiative Order

Rolls

Melee (Light) with increase due to crit and setback from prone position

3 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Failure, 4 Threat

Total: 2 Success, 3 Threat

Sep 13, 2019 4:50 pm
With several dogs grabbing at his trouser leg, Benji pants heavily as he attempts to pull free. The boy wriggles and shakes his leg, but the dogs refuse to let go. Nevertheless, Benji does manage to put the trunk he's clinging to between him and the attacking creatures, making it more difficult for them to harm him.
OOC:
3 advantage gives Benji +1 defense until end of his next turn. Enemy up next...
[ +- ] Initiative Order

Rolls

Coordination vs. Athletics (upgrading difficulty with SP), boost for familiarity with tree

6 Advantage, 2 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 2 Failure, 4 Advantage

Sep 13, 2019 4:58 pm
The group of dogs distracted by Nera's arrow regain their focus and lunge for Lyssie once again. They grab onto her leg and arm, pulling her in different directions as she winces in pain. Still, the woman seems to have the presence of mind to reach for her dagger, as her fingers just manage to reclaim it from the soil.
OOC:
Using the Threat to give her a free maneuver; she gets the dagger back! Gallen is next...

Rolls

Brawl vs. prone target

2 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Failure, 3 Threat

Gallen Thistlerock pushes forward through the brush, attempting to close the distance to his sister and nephew. "Lyssie! Benji! We're coming!" he cries. But there's a tinge of uncertainty in his voice as he sees what the threat truly is... "Those are our dogs!"
OOC:
Will adjudicate his failed fear check when I get home. We'll use the advantage to embolden the next two PCs to make a fear check, as he's identified the threat. Two more dog attacks coming up...
[ +- ] Initiative Order

Rolls

Discipline (fear check, boost because he knows dogs, setback for family)

1 Success, 3 Advantage, 2 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 1 Failure, 2 Advantage

Sep 13, 2019 5:13 pm
Three of the dogs snap at Lyssie's arms, as she attempts to protect her face from their fangs, but they latch onto her forearm and left hand, their eyes locked on as they continue their assault.

The dogs plaguing Benji try to pull him from the tree, but he manages to keep his hold on the lower branches. Nevertheless, his weight coupled with his struggling causes an audible crack as the main branch he is clinging to seems to be breaking.
OOC:
2 advantage gives the dogs attacking Lyssie a free aim maneuver that will come into play next round. 2 advantages from the other dogs means Benji has to make another Athletics check next round to find a better branch, and he won't gain any altitude by doing so.
OOC:
Finally! A PC is up! :) Those of you at Medium range need 2 more move maneuvers to get to Short, unless Nekurr can Augment one of you with the Swift effect: P for Swift alone, PP for Swift +regular Augment effect, PPP to swift two people at once, with each Advantage getting one more person besides).
OOC:
Also, don't forget that as soon as you get to Short range and see the beasts, you have to make an Average (PP) Discipline check. The first two PCs to do so get a boost from Gallen's warning.
