OOC:
Other thoughts? Going back for the Gnome will lose you 4 days of time (2 there, then 2 back), so it will gobble up any time saved for taking the swamp.

But: If you want a guide through the swamp, you have three options: the Gnome, the hunters, of the Lizardfolk (whom you'll have to figure out how to befriend). The Lizardfolk like the Gnome. The Lizardfolk hate the hunters. The hunters hate the Lizardfolk. The villagers hate the hunters (they turned one over to the baron so he could be arrested for poaching). You don't know what the Lizardfolk think of the villagers or vice-versa.

Going through the swamp gives you the element of surprise over the villagers, if you'd like to surprise them.

Taking the roads sidesteps the politics and dangers of the swamp, but the villagers will be ready for you.

I'm not seeing a clear cut choice personally, all have drawbacks in my head. The Gnome would be ideal but taking extra time is a bummer.

"Anyone figure out anything about Isle or we just moving on Buzzard? His change in mannerisms is suspect to me." Tronus states between mouthfuls of food and drink shoved in his face like someone might take the food away.

Hildar frowns "It would seem to be somewhat counter productive to head all the way back to collect the guide but I'm not sure theres a better option"
Feb 5, 2020 12:59 pm
"If we're going to talk to the Lizard tribe we can just show 'em Nera's gear and ask about how it's made since it's exceptional no? More people should be buying it. Right Nera?"

quickly saying that Nekurr is all against surprises and dangers, so he’d vote taking the "nice" non swampy roads ;)
But tronus armour parading suggestion would convince him

Remnant says:
"Anyone figure out anything about Isle or we just moving on Buzzard? His change in mannerisms is suspect to me." Tronus states between mouthfuls of food and drink shoved in his face like someone might take the food away.
OOC:
One more reminder: Your client said Isle's wife gave him an ultimatum: Stop the gambling, or divorce. Not saying that's a convincing reason for his change of heart, but it's not out of the blue either.

And Tronus would know that rich merchants don't go on swamp expeditions for free, so hiring him is safest, but will presumably be costly.

"Too much weird stuff going on 'ere. Oi tink we at least need ta troi ta contact the lizard folk. If not to be guided through the swamp, den at least ta troi ta learn more about who, or what we're walking into.

Oi don't tink we need ta go back for the game, since we can at least use 'is word, an deir armor for an in.
"

"Or we can ask if there's a bounty on hunters because they're shitbags… Everyone likes to see someone they don't like get kicked in the jumblies from time to time." Tronus states with an odd smirk.

Hopefully we can come to a decision soon. I'll let you try one more Streetwise check in the tavern to see if you can get some dirt on the ruffian hunters. Let's say Easy (P) since they're known in these parts, and it's kind of a lawless place. Add a setback since they're right outside. :)

You could always try to contact the Lizardfolk without committing to the swamp route if you wish. It'll require you to enter the swamp at some point, even if not the path that leads to the river system you'd need to take. If I haven't made it clear, you would all know it's highly unusual for any "civilized" person to be on good terms with Lizardfolk. They're a monstrous race, like Goblins or Kobolds. Intelligent, but opters-out from the social life of civilized Terrinoth. (Just wanted to make sure that was clear, since this won't be like negotiating with Elves or Dwarves.)

Nera quickly grows bored of the debate, silently trying to spin a fork around her...paws? Fingers? Nera doesn't quite know what to classify them as. Regardless she is failing.

Luckily this self imposed challenge doesn't last too long, as the discussion mentions the bounty hunters her ears perk up. She scoots out of her seat- "I'll be back." -and goes for a quiet little stroll through the tavern. Looking for the bathroom, or perhaps eyeing up some of the lovely decor.
OOC:
I figure I should do this montage style, overhearing people to gather knowledge and butt in if it's wise.

A couple advantage to learn some blackmail worthy knowledge, or if they have any particular items we could use.

As Nera zips around the tavern, she makes a few discrete inquiries from those people who seem to know something or other about the hunters outside. She isn't able to gather much new information: The scullery maid says they're hunters, the dish boy says they go to the swamp a lot. A quiet Half-Catfolk sitting on a stool notes that hunting the swamp is illegal, which makes this group poachers under baronial law. Their gear indicates that they're on their way to a hunt today.

OOC:
OK! Have I given you a case of analysis paralysis? What information do you think you still need to make a decision?

To be clear, I don't intend to belabor arriving at the village. Maybe a single encounter, regardless of whether you take the swamp or the road. The main difference will be in how the villagers react to your arrival depending on how you come and whom you're with.

OOC:
More like I only just now got to read this. I think we just need to decide how best to proceed. I agree the armor would help us with lizardfolk negotiations.

OOC:
I was of the mindset since we have some who want a cautious long round about approach and some what an easy up front approach that we were going to check the road into Buzzard's Ford, if it looks well maintain for an in the boonies village we'd be cautious and scout a bit to see who advanced the defenses are, if it looks like Buzzard 'Fort' now I'd likely ask the people who wanted to go up front and easy if they think we'll get shot up if we state who we are and why we're here.
Once Nera's back, "Well we aren't getting the job done here thinking so what say we get on the road, if we need more information to make a decision we'll need to go out and get it I fathom."

OOC:
OK, advancing you slightly, then.
After breakfast, you load up the cart and lead the horses south along the road from Cailn Crossroads. There's a moderate amount of traffic, presumably folks headed south to Tamalir or north to Nornholt. You keep an eye out for footpaths toward the swamp, and before long, you think you spot one—and the hunters from the tavern are taking it on their own mounts, perhaps a half hour ahead of you. There's not really anything you could call a trail, just some trampled grass and wildflowers betraying infrequent passage this way.

"So we following these bundles of sunshine for a bit?" Tronus asks the group from the reins.
Feb 7, 2020 3:10 pm
OOC:
I stated what I thought we should do already. Up to group to decide how best to proceed.
"If we follow these uns, we might as well foight 'em now. 'ey'd expect to be paid for being followed..."
Feb 7, 2020 3:10 pm
Hildar nods absently "Seems like a prudent course to follow"

[ +- ] maps
OOC:
Well, Remnant wanted to know if the path southwest is well-used. Answer: No, it's not. You don't have to confront these guys if you don't want to. You can tell from your maps that you can head south on the main road perhaps a day's travel and then head due west to get to the swamp.

In short, head after the hunters if you want their help or want to fight them. But if all you care about is meeting some Lizardmen, you can do that without following them.
