No, not him directly, Ma'am. Homalis says. We were on the road not far from town, when we were ambushed by his... companions.

The sheriff nods. "You would know him if you saw him. He used to wear a golden mask back then. Well. You lot seem to be on his trail already. You find Ralavaz and bring him back, I'll see that you're paid well by Whitesparrow. What say you?"

"Coin sounds nice right about now." Tok'ra says to the sheriff as much as to the rest of the group.

The half-elf looks ponderous for a couple heartbeats and then asks, "Does that mean that this Night Blade needs to be alive when we return him?"
Mar 2, 2020 10:40 pm
Willowmane's shoulders roll in a shrug. "Better a dead criminal than dead townsfolk or merchants. If he and his put up a fight... I wouldn't blame you for putting him down."

She looks the group over again, noting their muddy gear. "Feel free to stay a night in town before you head out. I'm happy to arrange warm beds for good citizens such as yourselves."
Mar 2, 2020 11:51 pm
"Tha's not a bad idea, although if you all are up tah head out now I'm ready as well," Celia says, turning to the group. "Those bandits seemed roight afraid of this fellow, I suppose a night of rest could do us some favors."

"Forgive me, Sheriff, but I am curious," Alab says. "A golden mask, and a ten year sentence seem unusual for a common, highway bandit leader. There is more to this story. Do tell."

Sheriff Willowmane raises an eyebrow at the drow. "The story? Well, I'll tell you what I know."

Her eyes stare at a distant scene as she speaks. "Ten years ago the Night Blades were at the height of their power, run by Ralavaz the Night Blade out of their kip, the Lonely Torch. Misfortune hit them like an giant's club when the lot were trapped in a barn. Angry villagers set the barn ablaze, and only Ralavaz made it out, leaving all his men to die in the fire. Abandoned even his own brother there."

She stamps her boots. "Ralavaz was caught and sentenced. And the Night Blades were no more... Until now." She looks up with a crooked half-smile. "I don't know much about the mask. Ralavaz must enjoy his theatrics."
Mar 3, 2020 2:11 am
"One wonders how he managed to gain new recruits, given his less than exemplary leadership history," Alab chuckles, then turns dead serious, "I would claim this mask as trophy. I require no other payment. And I am prepared to set out tonight, as soon as darkness falls."

"Then the mask is yours." Willowmane squints at the sun. "Dusk will be on us shortly. Best of luck to you, adventurers."

Anything else in town?

"Roight then, let's head out. No sense standin' around with a thumb up our ass. Not when there's gold and gold on tha line!" Celia adjusts her sword strap and cracks her back, starting to head off towards the Lonely Torch.

The half-elf sorcerer nods agreement and follows with the group.

The group sets off into the evening. The air remains humid from the rain earlier that day, but the clouds above thin to allow a generous amount of moonlight to brighten the path. Even with night's shadow gradually enveloping the party, they soon spy the dark bulk of a large hill ahead. At its top is the dim outline of a watchtower, with several spots of flickering torchlight.

The path before party is narrow and rough with uneven stones, choked by a two- foot-thick carpet of glistening green-and-violet weeds and thorny brambles. Statues of forgotten nobility peer out from the tangled vines, appearing almost like stony victims claimed by the imposing plants. The brambles seem to cover the entire hill, from the party's location at its foot all the way up to the watchtower itself.

OOC:
Between my darkvision and +2 in Survival Tok'ra will take a look at the path but will gladly allow a better skill or roll take the head spot. They are squishy after all...
"These brambles are thick and we do not know if traversing through them is wise..." Tok'ra says flatly as the observe the brambles straddling the pathway up

Tok'ra recognizes the overgrowth as tangleweed, an invasive and poisonous plant. Moving through it unprotected will certainly be dangerous.
Mar 12, 2020 10:02 pm
"Of course, it's tangleweed…" the half-elf states to his tattoo it seems.

Then he turns and informs his companions, "This tangleweed will be troublesome for us to traverse, we must recommend using the path to the tower," Tok'ra says flatly, "unfortunately."

OOC:
Sorry, I wasn't very clear. Even the path is covered in this tangleweed stuff, so your choice is whether to go straight through, or find some way to circumvent it. I'm open to creative solutions!
Mar 12, 2020 11:33 pm
"Well," says Celia, hoisting her Greatsword, "Unless any of you lot 'ave any broight ideas, I s'pose it's time to start cuttin' our way through."
Mar 13, 2020 2:34 am
"I would suggest burning it all -- something I would throughly take pleasure in -- but itwould be unwise, as it that would alert them to our presence."
Mar 13, 2020 9:43 pm
"We will trust in your steel and arm, Celia." and Tok'ra motions for the fighter to take the hack n' slash lead role.
