The going is hard as Celia chops a path through the perilous plants, and after an hour of work the group only proceeds about halfway up the hill. As the companions assess their progress, they hear something approaching from off to their left. Dimly they make out a dark, lumbering shape make its way toward them through the tangelweed...

Alab sees the monster more clearly than his companions; a creature seemingly made up of vines, roots, and branches, it shambles forward unimpeded by the surrounding tangleweed.

"This appears to be problematic..." Tok'ra emotes as the shambles towards the party.
Their hands make a complex series of moves whilst the tadpole "swimming" about their chest flares out it's fins and glows with a reddish orange light as the half-elf commands:

Celia releases her sword from her right hand, letting its tip fall into the dirt. She grabs a handaxe from her belt and hurls it at the creature, but it goes wide and embeds itself in a tree. She spends her second turn hoisting her sword back up at the air, ready to strike the creature if it moves within range.

With Tok'ra's first bolt of fire the shambling mound breaks into a lurching run toward the party. It covers ground quickly, and soon the companions find the large plant-creature alarmingly close!

Celia thrusts her sword forward at the creature as it enters range, leaving a dent in the greenery. She pulls her sword back and closes her eyes, planting her feet and feeling the creature's motions across the ground. "Gotcha," she mutters to herself as one of the creature's... limbs? Extends forwards and she brings her sword down right on where it connects to the main mound, nearly severing it from the creature.

The shambling mound charges forward, suffering attacks from fire and blade. It brings a fist slamming down at Celia, but she neatly sidesteps the blow. Her counterattack severs the creature's arm, and it emits a groan like a falling tree. Its other arm swings around and catches Celia's hip, staggering her (Celia takes 11 bludgeoning damage).

Celia's vision goes a bit wobbly from the pain, but she inhales sharply and closes her eyes for a second, reorienting herself. She lashes out at the creature with her sword, slashing at the arm the slammed into her. She barely misses the arm, but still leaves a thin slash mark across the creature's body with the tip of her sword, dealing 8 damage.

Chips of wood fly free from Alab's punches as Celia cuts another deep gouge in the plant monster. The shambling mound shudders from the punishment, then turns away and stumbles back into the tangleweed. It apparently does not want to risk a fight to the death.

As the sound of its passage recedes, the companions hear voices behind them.

"...hear that? Sounds like someone's fighting ol' Strangleberries!"

"And look here, some of the weed's been hacked away!"

Dimly through the darkness, the party members with darkvision can make out a group of four humans making their way up the path toward the party.

The passive expression on the half-elf's face is betrayed by the shocked expression on the tadpole's.

"Strangleberries…?" Tok'ra quietly breathes and tries to hide whilst urging his companions to do the same.
