"Yes, the man is right, you..." Nekurr snoozes for a moment "Bird-people devils! Where ... the mayor sleep?". He starts to curl and purr "Too many leaves in that pipe..."

Bruv goes to un-mask the conscious cultist, and will do so forcibly if they resist.
Oct 14, 2020 4:50 pm
OOC:
Em, getting the third mask is an opposed Brawl check vs. PPP.
Oct 14, 2020 7:08 pm
When Bruv sees the cultist intends to resist, he changes his tactic to just knock them out.
OOC:
Basic Brawl attack, and choose to deal Strain damage.

Flaw: Anger :/

Will use the Advantage to recover my last Strain. 9 Strain dealt to the cultist, pre-Soak.
OOC:
GM edit: Forgot a purple (opposed check, so not really attempt to deal damage).

Bruv grabs the arm of the figure and spins around their body, twisting their form with that motion into a joint lock which he applies a steady pressure to, "No more tricks, mate... you are under arrest under the authority of the Baron.
Oct 14, 2020 8:03 pm
"Nekurr? Nekurr get up." Nera keeps her eyes on the (un)masked individuals, sincerely hoping this isn't one of his 'acts of worship'. She gives him a light tap with her leg.
Oct 15, 2020 2:21 am
The guard nearly falls over when the mask comes off. The third masked figure is Skeeter Zymph, the village ferryman. "Under arrest? Ha! Whatever for, man? We ain't done nothin'. It's you should be arrested for interferin' in things that ain't your damn business!"
Oct 15, 2020 8:11 am
Nekurr looks arouind, trying to figure out where Nera's voice is coming from. "Yes, business, taxes, and all to jail!" he says, loosing his balance for a moment. "Hey you! I know you."

Hildar frowns as the man speaks "Then perhaps you could enlighten us on what exactly is going on here? On the face of things you all attempting to kill yourselves when detained is a pretty clear indication you are undertaking some.....unnatural activities."
Oct 15, 2020 12:10 pm
"Yes attacking the representatives of the Baron with the intent to kill can be considered "nothing" in these parts. Do you speak for the Mayor too? If he also says the same thing you'll both literally get socked in the face that's a promise." Tronus states picking up the weapons and nudging Nekurr with his foot, "Oi, you're acting weird even for you."
OOC:
In my mind Clever Retort always needs to come off salty for Tronus and probably clever for Nekurr...

GM edit: Forgot a purple (opposed check, so not really attempt to deal damage).
OOC:
I think you missed the fact that, once I learned he was gonna resist me taking it off while he was conscious, my intent became to knock him unconscious first, and then just take it off him.

But will roll with this at this point.
"Failure to cooperate with lawful inquiry?

Subsequent resisting arrest?

Subsequent assault? And attempted murder, if that poison is as deadly as you two had hoped it would be?

Take her pick mate. Yer goin' away, one way or another.

But not before we question ya, of course. Cuz ya obviously 'ave something ta 'ide.
"

Bruce looks to the guard, "Wot's da story with dese "Night Creepers"? What 'ave dey done 'ere in da past?"
Oct 16, 2020 12:26 am
OOC:
My bad, Em.
Zymph laughs and spits on the ground, trying to hide his discomfort at being held in an armlock by the bigger Orc. "You 'ere that, Bogan? They think they got some kinda authority here! I say we arrest the lot of 'em."

The guard looks confused and mutters something about Night Creepers being ghosts—or so he thought.

Zymph continues. "Now you know, Bogan. That Night Creeper business's all poppycock we tell the tykes to get 'em to bed. Truth is a few of us likes to have a bit of fun on Founder's Feast Night by dressing up and hitting the hooch, trying some stronger stuff if you catch me drift. Tha's all. Get these louts to let us go and we can all's go there and have a laugh."
OOC:
You all no doubt suspect this is a lie. Does the guard? He knows Skeeter, so boost, but he's also under orders to keep order in the mayor's absence, so setbacks...

Deception on guard

2 Success, 5 Advantage, 1 Failure, 3 Threat

The guard looks to you all, confused. "I don't know know what all this is about, but these folks are hurt. In the name of the mayor, I'm asking that you help me take these two ladies into the manor so we can tend to their wounds. We should let Skeeter here get on with his business?"

You realize that you may very well have overstepped your legal authority by chasing down a bunch of villagers simply because they were dressed funny and out late at night. The guard's words sow a seed of doubt among you about the legal ramifications if any of these villagers comes to further harm. The first attack was from your end...
OOC:
He does have the mayor's authority, but I know this goes against your motivations here... You're not convinced to abandon your current inquiry. But for his advantage, he has you wondering if you've overstepped by chasing people down for dressing strangely. (This isn't GM editorializing, just narrativization of the die roll!)
OOC:
Actually, enough of you have Discipline that it's worth upgrading his check. That makes him fail! Altering the narrative above slightly.
OOC:
Add Dwarf setback.

This calls for a dream like clever retort on that bridge man! This cancels Skeeter's advantages
"Yes! Arrest them all!" Nekurr shouts aroused by Skeeter's speech. "Listen to the boat man! Tronus, the boat man!".After misinterpreting the villager's order, the cleric tries to stand up and looks straight in Skeeter's eyes, or at least, some of the six eyes the man seems to have at the moment... "Weren't you supposed to be sleeping because the Lady told you good boys go to sleep early?". After a brief stop to consider the logical implications of this "So you're saying you're a bad boy?"
OOC:
I'll leave the obviously implied subversion and rebelious propaganda against the Baron's authority for someone more lucid to point out I

"In the name of the people your villager threatened to kill themselves in front of and failed then tried attacking us after that I call bullocks and you'll not be ordering me around anymore in your village, if you can't ask then get the Mayor out here so I can jump down his throat instead I'll remind you there are plenty of guards about you can find instead while we sit on your villagers. Since you don't know I figure they and the Mayor are going to sit down for a nice looong sensible talk with us. If you don't know you're course of action being to dismiss it as nothing to see here would likely get me putting my foot up your arse if I was fifty years younger right now. Things aren't adding up much like what happened with the Hog earlier. They'll get help and they're sticking together. And we're getting answers now, not in the morning, not when you've had breakfast, not after a holiday, you'll likely want to get assistance to help your injured. Don't order people that were attacked by your villagers to do your biding Boy." Tronus spits with a disgusted look on his face, "Even the loopy boy doesn't buy it." Tronus adds his notrils flairing.
OOC:
Also adding in clever retort for another 2 threat. Also if I'm included in the check as a target he adds another setback.
Oct 16, 2020 3:44 pm
OOC:
So, if you're both using Clever Retort on the guard, that gives you 2 threat to spend. (I'm unclear whether Tronus is upbraiding the ferryman or the poor guard, but we can use it on the guard since Zymph's lie was a few lines back.)

Let me know how you're using that 2 threat on the guard. Leadership and Coercion are no-gos on Zymph. The guard's a different matter with different motivations.
Oct 16, 2020 5:02 pm
OOC:
Zymph didn't target me so yeah it was on the guard. Also he's being sorted out by Bruv aka Bruce. Meta: Zymph - we're not doing anything 'too' illegal man it's cool, Imma bribe you in front of the people that can smack the both of us silly.

As for the threat maybe since it's a fail and 2 threat he realized someone just told him they were possibly doing something illegal and he just suggested they be let go and he's ripping us a new one and that doesn't make sense or he picks up their weapon on the ground and realizes the wounds seem self inflicted by said weapons they were carrying on the stuff on them Tronus doesn't know about. CESN what are your thoughts?

OOC:
I think I’m a bit lost on who convinced who of what now :( those threats look ok 👌 i’d maybe add one alternative like the villager remembering something suspicious about last taxman’s disappearance that could be explained by the creepers not being ghosts. Maybe some rumour or ghost tale that was told at the time that associates them?

Or the default alternative of fears/motivations :)

As seasoned investigators, you all realize that the legal situation here is fuzzy at best. You pursued the Night Creepers on simple suspicion that they were up to no good, and then fired upon them. So whatever happened once you caught up with them, a baronial court could rule that they acted in self defense.

As for the guard, he seems more concerned about being yelled at by a bunch of armed strangers with magical powers. He nearly buckles in the knees at Tronus's barrage of ire, but then he catches himself. "What... What do you propose, then?"
OOC:
Rolling guard's resistance to Tronus's threats with adjustments for both his motivations and the fact that you're scary outsiders...

So, you've got the guard scared, at least for the moment. With the Despair, what would you like to happen?

Rolls

Discipline vs. Coercion

3 Success, 1 Advantage, 3 Failure, 1 Despair

"I get you're just doing your duty... My apologies as coming off rough. Miss Nera do you have a way to show this guard you're shots were not lethal? Also you are right sir you're speaking on the Mayor's behalf that should be taken into context but so should facts you'll found out versus hearsay, I'd like you to look at their injuries and line up if they were from very sharp weapons like my sword used primarily for injury and death or farming tools with a curves blade by how clean they are and the shape. If there's damage to the environment to see what needs to be repaired if need be." Tronus states.

"If everyone was suppose to be asleep between guests and villagers why are some people out for 'a drink' in masks that look like something from a folktale to scare people away or off from what they're doing with farming tools used as weapons at the ready? Lets say they were just out for a drink admission was given to doing more then consumption of alcohol and why did they threaten suicide if not immediately let go? Killing themselves is hardly a thing we could be blamed for possibly held accountable for not trying to stop quickly enough. But I agree once you've gotten a good look at things we should get their wounds tended. Separate them and find out what they're actually out doing once they're stable and their health isn't in jeopardy... I don't want to see another beast or gods forbid a person for that matter out later this morning or later today with spiders falling out of their mouth again trying to kill and maim or rampage. Or something leading to a dead taxman with a large amount of gold coming up missing before he left the village. Or you being set up to take the blame for something that you were unaware of. Don't worry we'll assist you in getting into the thick of it and the brass tacks of the details." Tronus adds with a smile of someone who likes doing paperwork.

"Looks like we're not all going to sleep for a while also if that one bolts... well it won't be good." Tronus nods towards Zymph.
OOC:
All in favor of a full audit of the situation, headcount of the villagers still alive? Cus no one likes paperwork like someone trying to cover their arse. I'd counter self defense with probable cause to detain mentally unstable people threatening suicide at the very least since that's holding yourself hostage and we didn't bite. Plus once they're detained we can search them for 'hard stuff' plus find out if there's difference in the stories.
