[IC] Death & Taxes (Session 4)

The second scarecrow moves forward steadily, fixing its empty gaze on Skeeter Zymph's body, then on the unconscious weaver in the cage, and finally on Bruv. It approaches the trapped Orc with a hiss and then swipes at him with its sickle fingers, but the investigator deftly swings his body around the post he's tied to, dodging the blow completely!

The creature's presence seems to have stirred Skeeter Zymph...
OOC:
Attacked assuming Dodge would be used. Holy mole, these guys can't hit! :) 5 advantage wakes up Zymph, though.

PC is up. Mayor is outside. That means no melee on him this round (since that requires moving to the door, going through the door, then engaging the mayor. Spells on him are still RRP + 4 Black unless the caster goes outside first (which takes two maneuvers).

Dumb question can the ensnare be attacked? On a sidenote is the darkness perception based?

OOC:
Not dumb at all. By vanilla rules, Bruv has to break out on his own with a Hard (PPP) Athletics check. That said, narratively, it would make sense that another PC could help him do this.

Maybe Option 1 = the other PC can throw him a boost at the cost of a maneuver on their turn, up to 2 boosts for 2 maneuvers.

Option 2 = the other PC can try to undo the restraints, rolling their Athletics or Coordination vs. PPP in lieu of Bruv, with 2 boosts for Bruv helping. Setbacks unless the freeing PC puts down their weapons first to use both hands freely (in addition to darkness). Boost if the PC uses a dagger or other small blade, but auto-upgrade in that case (RPP) to represent possibly slicing Bruv by accident.

Option 3 = the PC can attack the scaffolding and try to destroy it. It's got a "Wound Threshold" and some natural Soak that I'll keep a mystery, but if it's overcome, the thing will collapse and Bruv will be freed. However, the fact that he's on the scaffold will give an automatic upgrade of the difficulty from PP to RP (with the darkness setbacks) to represent possibly hitting him.

The darkness is indeed perception based. It's night, the moon's behind clouds, and you're inside an old house. The scarecrows aren't affected, but everyone else is without a racial ability or some magical assistance (another Augment, say).

OOC:
Nekurr is nearby and has maneuvers right?
Jan 21, 2021 2:47 pm
OOC:
Yeah, you could take the first slot if you'd like. You can cast from where you are (RRP+4Blk) or take two maneuvers first to open the door and move through it first (RR)+2 Blk. Going for the second option means Nekurr will have to drop the counterspell, though. (Catfolk get 1 free Move maneuver per turn, but they still can't exceed 2 maneuvers/turn).

OOC:
Due to Fleet of Paw, Nekurr (and Nera) are better movers than Bruv...

Also, Bruv is fine in the restraints, he can still works magic help destroy the scare crows in the room. We really need to not waste action economy on getting up Bruce, we need whoever can to stop the Mayor...

Didn't Nekurr move outside already last round??

Ok, deleted my post as I misunderstood the need to help bruv :D
But that is a good question, how far is the mayor from me?

Also, do I need to roll to cast light again? 2Blk for everyone and 1G for two PC is worse than 0Blk+0G right?

The NPCs suffer from it too. I think our "taller stacks" of dice fair better than there's in it.

Again, top priority to me is stop Mayor at all costs.

Got it on the spell countering via physical attempt. This might get dicey. So start keeping track of boost seperate.
Tronus sighs, "They always run... Nekurr you see that. He's running away from getting beaten up by you... You may not be a dwarf but you can hold your own. Anyone want to take a beat who will tap out in a bareknuckle fight between him." Tronus states half jeering his companion half smack talking to lighten the situation. "Everyone be, where you need to be to do what you must." he states a little more serious while eyeing the scarecrow.
OOC:
Supreme Inspiring Rhetoric as a man and Field Commander as an action. -1 Strain for me.

Triumph still don't count in checks?
Some one can get +1 boost from Tronus's SIR x 2 turns +2 Strain.
Some one can get +1 boost from Tronus's SIR x 2 turns +2 Strain.

3 people can get a manuveur on my turn for 1 strain. Update besides canceling out a threat unsure what to do with two triumphs from the actions. I figure this is the best use of a turn to get the most boosts out and do the 'most things' on my turn.

Yeah, I keep asking to have the Success/Failure of the Trimph/Despair tallied with the other results, but so far no dice. :/

Seems the Triumphs could be used to pass upgrades to the next two PCs? Upgrading whatever check they do as if a SP had been spent? Alternatively, upgrade the next two NPC checks once each? Or some combination of the two?
Jan 22, 2021 6:14 pm
OOC:
Hmm how about next NPC upgrade the check and next PC upgrade the skill used? It's been like this since SW dice were live on the sight, I think K's got a different roadmap though and it's just low priority in comparison.
Jan 22, 2021 7:35 pm
OOC:
Righteo. Next NPC difficulty upgraded, next PC skill check upgraded. Will assume the boost dice go to Hildar and Nekurr, but let me know if that's not right.
You hear the mayor mutter something under his breath as he continues running away. Something hisses from right behind the door as the mayor's footfalls grow fainter...
OOC:
OK, he summoned a creature and ran further, using his advantage to recover strain. PC is up, with a fee upgrade courtesy of Tronus.

Forgot that 3 of you get a free maneuver from Tronus. Doesn't change much about what the mayor just did unless you happen to have a talent like Tronus that lets you do an action as a maneuver? But do tell me who used their maneuvers to do what.
Jan 22, 2021 9:10 pm
OOC:
It cost 1 strain but it's done out of the PCs turn and doesn't count towards the 2 man limit during ones turn.
Jan 25, 2021 1:15 am
OOC:
1-strain, out-of-turn maneuvers: Hildar, Nera, and Nekurr are eligible for them, as Bruv is still ensnared. Are Hildar and Nekurr using them? I think Nera would use hers to move toward the door, closer to the mayor.
Jan 25, 2021 8:58 am
OOC:
Nera can have it:) Let me try again this one. I'll just maneuvre twice very close to the mayor and do some lucky spell above my strain :D

Nekurr runs outside to catch up with the mayor, generally ignoring the fact that he is likely to be met by a giant serpent thing just outside! But that is ok, since he barely notices what is going on as he falls on all fours to run, focused solely on his prey...

OOC:
I'll use the adv for a knockdown and upgrade mayors difficulty next?
Seeing the horror in front of him, the mayor trips on a root that may or may not have been there before ...

OOC:
So, I'm trying to figure out how casting further attack spells on him is going to be possible. He put the monster behind the door to slow down pursuit, so I'm inclined to say that it will require an Athletics or Coordination check to get past the monster and fire at him in the dark. And, of course, making such a check removes that character's options to also cast a spell on their turn.

So, then there's the possibility of casting an attack spell through the wall and closed door at him, but the rules seem to suggest that attack magic is supposed to be treated like any other ranged attack. I wouldn't allow Nera to fire a bow through the wall, so letting an attack spell go through the wall seems to be too overpowered.

So, how do you attack the mayor this turn? It will require some teamwork. Someone needs to draw the monster away from the door to permit someone else to go through and attack. By that point, the mayor will have moved to long range, but he's still theoretically stoppable if you can overcome the obstacle he set for you.

OOC:
Three people can use the move CESN not one also you have 2 boost this round and 1 next round.
Jan 25, 2021 3:37 pm
OOC:
Nekurr was already outside tho, right?

Can we get the result of his turn adjudicated?

Also, I would add there's nothing in the rules that say you can't fire or move past an enemy, that I'm aware of, that's kind of just stone-walling our efforts...

This isn't D&D where the enemy takes up a 5'square...

I could see the summons having to use it's turn to shut the door and try to keep it shut.

But just saying it's in the way isn't very cool, IMO.

Nekurr sees the mayor's form trip and fall. He lands on his neck, which snaps with a sickening crack. Nekurr sees a scarecrow in front of the door, but it collapses into a pile of straw and canvas.

The scaffolding holding Bruv bound also collapses to the ground.

The other scarecrow, already in the kitchen, does not collapse, however.
OOC:
So the mayor is down (and dead). 2 advantage left, but using for Knockdown isn't necessary. Other thoughts?
