Hildar looks about the room, eyes going wide with interest. "Hmmm, yes, the mushrooms first I think" he says as he moves over to study them.

Ok, with Bruv's assistance the Alchemy check would be 1 x Proficiency and 3 x Ability dice (Hildar has Alchemy as a Career skill but no ranks in it as yet), assuming the boost dice are just for the Spiders which would be 1 x Proficiency and 3 x Ability dice for Hildars Knowledge (Adventuring) with 3 x Boost dice (2 for the past experience and 1 for Nekurr's assistance). Will roll for both now but will be doing the Alchemy for the Mushrooms first if the order matters.

Ok, for the Advantages on the Alchemy could Hildar safely take some mushroom samples for further study later? Will wait to see if the check for the spiders applies and any results before weighing in with a suggestion for the Advantages on that check.

With Nekurr's help, the mushroom check is now 4 advantage. That's enough for some samples, and perhaps to notice another valuable fact, which I'll relate. For the spiders, I'll hold off on adjudicating the advantage, but one possibility might, again, be noticing something potentially useful.
With the moonlight streaming down, Hildar's able to get a good look at the mushrooms, the spider mound, and the equipment strewn about the room. While the pipeleaf shrubs are familiar from the fair, the Elf can't place the toadstools. He does determine that merely touching them isn't likely to be harmful. Finding a spare flask amongst the equipment, he borrows a knife from Nekurr and scrapes some samples into the container for later study. In the process, Hildar marvels at the equipment on offer here—this is a fully functional alchemy lab.

The mage approaches the spiders after swallowing down an instinctive sense of revulsion. The mound is indeed large and horrific, with pulsating egg sacs spewing baby spiders from time to time. With each succession of new arachnids, the babies seem to burrow down into the mound, where, presumably, their food source must be. These are definitely the same species that came out of the pig at the village fair.

For the first roll's advantage, Hildar has gathered samples, but also noted that this alchemy equipment is potential "loot" if he wants to go to the trouble of collecting it later.

"Fascinating" Hildar says as he leans in closer to the mound "Do you see how when the eggs hatch the young almost seem to burrow further inside, there must be a significant amount of food in there for them to ea.....oh, oh dear" he finishes with a slightly sickly tone in his voice pondering whether the previous tax collector may now be dinner for the swarm....

Hildar does indeed notice some tufts of red Human hair and scraps of fabric sticking out of the writhing mass. These would indeed be consistent with Kelis Isle's description...

Let me get an Average (PP) Fright Check (Discipline) from everyone, but with a boost as you don't seem to be imminent danger. But the thought at least is pretty horrifying...

"Are those red? Could they be? How long has it been? Is it even possible? When did it?" Nekurr starts asking the questions but he cannot end them. As Hildar replies, the half-caltfolk's becomes as pale as the spider's silk, his body frozen with the shock.

Can I use the advantages to pull Nekurr together and actually open the mound, maybe revealing what the purpose of this is?

Nekurr actually passed the fear check, so no need to pull him together! You're welcome to open up the pulsating, pustulating mass of spiders if you wish, but you might want to use the 2 advantages for some help in figuring out how to do so in a way that's not going to disturb the arachnids skittering about, who are currently quite content. Maybe 2 boosts to a Knowledge (Adventuring) check on how you might neutralize them? Knowledge (Adventuring) x RP + 2 Blk for the unusual nature of the situation (you want to preserve whatever's underneath).

Bruv was hoping against hope that his statement about needing to dig into the nest would just turn out to be a macabre jest. So when Hildar points out the remains, he has no words, and just sags under the weight of the revelation, running his hands over his face...

A quick glance shows Bruv that nothing has changed in the previous room. Anzila is still out cold in her toppled cage, with Tronus on guard...

So, Hildar is disoriented as long as he's in the room with the spiders (+Blk on checks). That said, he may want to help Nekurr with the Knowledge (Adventuring) roll, adding YG + Blk to the check (or YY + Blk for a SP spend).

I'll roll Tronus's Fear check later tonight if we don't hear from Remnant.

Went ahead and added in extra dice for Hildar's help on the Knowledge (Adventuring) check for the sake of pushing the game forward. The spiders are not aggressive (at least not at the moment), so riffing off CESN's idea, 4 advantage lets you...
With such a strange situation, nothing immediately springs to mind as to how to neutralize the spiders without harming any theoretical corpse underneath. However, you do spot a few hairs and tunic fibers that seem to have settled at the base of the putrid mound, where they can be collected without disturbing the mass. If you could only find something else that indisputably belonged to Kellis Isle, you could use magic to confirm that these hairs and fibers came from the same man.

Not saying the spiders can't be neutralized. But your skills give you no hints as to how to do so, so it's left up to player ingenuity! ;) Or save it for later if you have other goals.
