OOC:
Off work, so I can post for real now.
The heat of battle kept Bonepipe warm - though the furnaces definitely helped him dry off.

When Mance raises the alarm that the barbarian - and Teo - may have contracted the Woe from their contact with the creature, a startled murmur rises from the crew. Upon being asked, Teo tries to think back to what he'd seen of the disease in his home village.
OOC:
Something interesting rather than something useful is a strange distinction for this move, but I'll give it a shot:
Teo knows when he brought the contaminated food to his village - but he didn't learn about the contamination until much later, and by then it was too late - though the ice statues didn't start popping up until after 10 days. The one thing he can remember that all of those infected would complain of was a pervasive feeling of cold, that could never warm up.

Byron begins cataloging what raw components they have on hand to fix the hull. Mance, having already checked on the hull, can point out the slight damage to the ship to her.
OOC:
That's a cool way to use Hand-Crafted! I can definitely see Bryon welding some metal plates onto the hull to reinforce the area where it was weakened by the creature. Will it be just regular plates of patchwork, or something cool? If you haven't seen Chalrytharendir's inspiration for the Symphony, I recommend checking this video out because it's super awesome.
OOC:
What will you do?

"If we were in drydock I could do better, but for now it’s gonna be a quick patch job," Byron mumbles as she sizes up the area Mance indicates. "Still, imagine how bad she’d look without these magic claws."

Better to throw herself into work than to let her mind wander, to have to contend with the possibility of respected comrades and siblings-in-arms being Woe-inflicted. We’ll have all sleepless night to consider that.

"I'm not sure what the timeline is exactly. It varies of course, but usually the first victims turn to ice about 10 days after first exposure. Of course, we all feel cold because of our surroundings. But Bonepipes, join me over by the fire and see if we warm up at all. An unwarmable soul is perhaps the strongest symptom of the Woe." he says with a sadness in his voice that could cool an already frozen heart.

Teo walks over to the furnace, takes off his gloves and waits patiently, silently praying to the spirits of the elements, and honestly, to the spirits of luck, to let him feel himself warm up.

OOC:
Since Bonepipe was already drying himself by the furnaces, I'm going to assume he's nearby there anyway.
As heat wafts out from the Symphony's furnaces, both Teo and Bonepipe are relieves at the sensation of warmth that envelops them, chasing away the chill.
OOC:
I'm going to leave it at that for now, but it's up to you if you still want to go the rowboat route! Once you're prepared to continue on to Syrinlya, let me know and I'll move the scene forward!
Jan 12, 2022 7:38 am
"I was worried you might take it like that Bonepipe, but trust me, it is not a boat for invalids. We'll name it the RAFT OF CHAMPIONS!! You only need to be towed if you can't keep up by rowing, so take that as a challenge and a good way to keep you warm," he says in jest to keep the situation light-hearted.

Hearing Teo's experience, he suggests that they should stay in the rowboat until they reach Syrinlya, coming back onto the ship once a day to check if they can warm up by the furnace. "We'll give you as many furs as we can fit in the boat though, so if you don't want to warm-up by rowing the whole way, there's other ways to stay warm in between furnace visits," he reassures Teo, although he wouldn't be surprised if Bonepipe takes his challenge seriously.

"If neither of you get an unshakable chill before then, we'll assume you're safe."

He then begins to direct the crew to correct their course after the encounter with the sea monster and sail for Syrinlya.
Jan 12, 2022 10:05 am
Bonepipe does in fact take the whole thing seriously. H3 insists on choosing the rowboat, and even paints RAFT OF CHAMPINS on the side (misspelled, of course). And gets ready to row.

"Don't worry, Teo. You just bundle up nice in those furs. Leave the rowing to me!"
Jan 12, 2022 3:02 pm
Teo shrugs, "Gladly. I will be meditating, wake me if you need me for anything."

He sits down on the rowboat opposite Bonepipe, then transforms into a lynx with a tiny set of frosty reindeer antlers atop its head. He walks in circles in the pile of furs that the crew gave them, dragging and nudging them until they form a nice little bed. He throws one over his back then sits on his hind legs. He closes his feline eyes and remains in that position. After a moment or two, from beneath his eye lids, his eyes begin glowing a dull blue and he remains perfectly still as his mind dances and mingles with the spirits of the land.

Byron gazes off the stern at the two beleaguered group members in their fur-lined rowboat.

"Probably more comfortable than the bunks," she jokes to Helga.
Jan 12, 2022 7:21 pm
"What's wrong with the bunks?" Helga teases back with a chuckle, her shorter stature obviously making them much more comfortable for her. Their location below deck also reminded her of her underground homeland. She loved the open sea, but still feels a nostalgia for tight quarters in dark underground caverns.

Watching the two exiles, Helga considers the vast difference in the personality and culture of Bonepipe and Teo. After a few minutes she adds, "Wanna take bets on how long they can take of each other? I'll put down 2 rum rations that Bonepipe goes crazy watching Teo meditate like that before we reach Syrinlya!"

Assuming no more major incidents before Syrinlya, Mance spends most of the time scribbling down the ideas he came up with for Bonepipe's Flaming Bagpipe concerto like a mad artist trying desperately to translate the concepts in his head to music that he can communicate to the rest of the Symphony, so they can properly accompany Bonepipe's unique play style. He's getting very excited about it now ... This is going to be a Masterpiece!

The group sails on, with Bonepipe rowing powerfully enough to keep up with the Symphony herself. Mance drafts his magnum opus, while Byron welds metal plates along the weakened parts of the ship, reinforcing them for continued travel.

And Teolynx meditates, his mind flowing outward into nature itself.

[The corruption! The corruption! It's spreading! Flee! Flee!] Teo hears the call of gulls above like they're speaking aloud. A flock swiftly flies across the sky, now tinted orange for the impending sunset - they seem to be fleeing from something a bit northwest of their current course.
OOC:
I figured this would be a great time for Teo's Spirit Tongue to activate!
Even if Teo tries to call to them, or get them to stop, the gulls continue their panicked flight back towards the mainland. The one exception isn't a gull at all, but a brilliant crimson-plumbed bird, holding a single stem of grain. The bird flies in behind the gulls, quietly, then just as silently flies a circle around the mast of the ship, then back immediately the way it came - that same north-northwest direction.
OOC:
What will you do?
Though Teo is the only one who can understand the birds, anyone out on the deck would have seen them fly by. (If Mance is in his quarters he might have missed it, or maybe he saw it out a port window?)

Clambering bodily back onto the deck, Byron watches the gulls and their strange red companion fly by.

"Odd behavior," she mumbles to no one in particular.

She isn’t much of an ornithologist—instead she plumbs the depths of her memories for any relevant sailor tales. A crimson bird likely does not count for "red skies at night", and that certainly wasn’t an albatross…

Byron might try Spout Lore to see if she's heard any tales!

She has absolutely no idea! She's never seen that type of bird before, or really heard anything about it. It's a pretty looking bird though, so she commits it to memory.

Byron marks XP!

Mance is too caught up in his work to notice much beyond hearing a few crew shouting to each other in interest. When he looks out the window of his quarters to see a flock of birds, he doesn't feel that it warrants any action on his part and goes back to his music.
OOC:
He'll probably take more interest depending on what Teolynx learns/shares.

OOC:
I completely forgot he had this. This might've been useful in the last fight too lol *facepalm*
Upon understanding the birds' calls, Teo is shaken out of his trance. He immediately stands at attention, his ears and tail sticking straight up as he suddenly strains to hear all of their words.

He hesitates, not knowing exactly what to do with this information, not wanting to act without seeking permission from the captain, but feeling like he doesn't have time to fly to the ship, find the captain, relay the information, and wait for a response before the bird becomes to of sight.

In a misty explosion, Teo transforms out of lynx forms and leans over the rowing Bonepipe. "I'm gonna go follow that bird. Let the captain know that the birds are trying to warn us of corruption that is heading our way. And without waiting for as much of a recognition of his words from Bonepipe, Teo's form shrinks into that of a falcon- Falceon, if you will (it's getting harder and harder to mesh Teo's name with that of the animals' lol)- and takes to the sky, chasing after the red bird.
OOC:
Which direction are we heading in the ship?
Jan 14, 2022 2:31 am
OOC:
I think the trajectory from Nohme to Syrinlya is roughly north-northwest, so by following the red bird you're probably flying out ahead of the ship towards Syrinlya.

OOC:
No worries! I didn't bring it up because it wouldn't have been much help in that particular case, but it makes sense now!

The ship originally started in a northwest direction, but has adjusted its heading North now to get to Syrinlya. The direction the bird is headed isn't too far off the ship's current heading, but since you're a ways from land the slight angle off course could definitely put the ship off a good few hours.
Falteon takes to the air after the red-plumbed bird, which never veers of its course as it flies straight and true toward the continent of Eiselcross.

As they fly, it becomes clear to Teo that the bird is definitely leading him somewhere - but to where he does not know, and the bird remains silent. He can tell that this path may take him a distance away from the others - does he still choose to still follow?
OOC:
This will split the party, though I suspect only temporarily for Teo to scout it out. I do want to give Teo the choice to press forward or turn back, and the rest of the group the choice to continue on their current route, or to change their angle to follow Teo.

What will you do?

Bonepipe's voice booms across the water, as he rows, relaying the information to the captain in the least discreet way possible.
