Ch. 1 - The Festival of Merits

As soon as Agatha yells the commencement, the crowd goes wild cheering on either one person or everyone all together, and the contestants begin scarfing the pies down.

Everyone gets through their first pie without a sweat.

It takes a little bit longer, but the second one goes down smoothly.

Halfway through the third pie, both the drow man and the human guy next to Tereze choke. They're quickly able to get the bits of pie dislodged, but they cannot go on further and slump back in their chairs, trying to hold in everything they just ate.

The halfling woman however, is not dismayed. She finished the third with ease, then the fourth without a rise in difficulty. The crowd is going crazy as this woman eats more than what seems is possible for her tiny stature.

But finally during her fifth pie, she suddenly stops as all of the color drains from her face. She quickly darts off the back of the stage, holding her hand up to her mouth.

Tereze practically absorbs the first pie, ravenously hungry from the days activities, but she soon regrets it - a sharp pain forming in her side from eating too fast.

Nevertheless, she powers through the second pie, but the pain increases. She clutches onto her waist with a strong hand to put some pressure on, hoping to relive the pain. She looks over at her neighbouring competition and finds some relief in the fact that he appears to be struggling too.

But finally, the third pie is just too hard to get through. She takes a single spoonful more than the human, just to make a point, but she still pushes her chair away from the table in a sad sign of defeat.

"I thought... Her entire body.. would be smaller ... than my stomach... She groans to her new battle companion.

It would be hard to believe that the bard had already been snacking on festival food as she practically starts to inhale. The first two are nothing special but the then those looking closely may have seen there were now tusks under the hood, rapidly making work of the 3rd and 4th pie. At the 5th however Ardeth finds herself having to run after the halfling as everything seems to hit her stomach at once.

Picking up a fork Faelan takes a deep breath before he starts eating. But the tempo of the group is too much for the noble and after the second pie he lays down his cutlery and put up his hands as a sign of defeat. This is not his contest any more.

Calla briefly touches the coin in her pocket for good luck then starts to dig in. She scarfs down the first pie, humming a content sigh as the oozy filling surrounded by flaky, buttery crust warms her from the inside out. It's gone too fast before she's on to the next one! The second is followed quickly by the third, and then the fourth!

When Agatha slaps the fifth down in front of the bunny, Calla cuts a slab and spears it with her fork. She lifts it towards her mouth, but her hand gets slower and slower and slower the closer it gets until it's hovering just before her lips and she's staring down her nose cross-eyed at it. Finally, she drops it back to the plate.

A series of growing burps start gurgling and her eyes go wide in embarrassment before she lets out a huge belch and slaps both her hands over her mouth. Groaning in discomfort and mortification she hunches over and rests her head on the table while she tries to clear the black spots swimming in her vision.

The book says that anyone who failed their Con saving throw (so everyone but Tereze and Kailani lol) are poisoned for 1 hour. We will change it to being until the end of the next event the party chooses to partake in, just for simplicity.

"Wow! What a finish for this round! Good thing I had made a coupl'a extra of these." Agatha digs around in her apron's pockets until she brandishes three of the tin-colored pie-shaped medallions. Uh, you okay back there, lass?" She calls out to the halfling woman who ducked behind the stage.

"Yes, yes, I am ..." burp "okay..." The halfling woman groggily climbs back onto the stage. The color has mostly returned to her face, but she is still clutching her stomach.

"Good ta see..." Agatha says waveringly. "Well, ta this hour's THREE winners, a medallion for each of yas!" She goes one by one and places the medallions around the halfling, Calla, and Ardeth's necks. "Congratulations to ya each!" The crowd gives one more big whooping applause before they begin to disperse. "There'll be another contest at the top of the next hour, come back to see the next round!" she yells to the thinning crowd.

Irvan
The young man turns to Tereze sitting next to him, and in a shaky voice says, "Congratulations, I ... urgh... saw you snag that last bite, heh. I think we were pretty evenly matched, was a good fight." He takes a second to breathe and adjust his sitting position. Looking somewhat relieved, he then resumes, "The name's Irvan. Was great to meet you, and uh, I guess lose to you, ha. Would love to meet up with you again at the final ceremony. See you then!" He smiles joyfully through his queasiness as he begins heading off the stage and into the crowded streets below.
Mar 27, 2022 8:35 pm
Tereze gives Irvan a respectful pat on the back as he leaves and also heads off the stage to join back up with the group.

"Uhh.. the pies were so good... but... I'm so full..." Tereze says, still holding her side. "You lot aren't just good at fighting huh? How about... something that doesn't involve too much... movement next?"

Calla waddles to rejoin the group, still seeing black spots and fighting down her gurgling stomach but with a huge smile as she looks at her medal.

"Iā€™ve never won a medal before! Here, it smells so good!" She says, holding it out to the group proudly before the sudden movement aggravates her gastric distress and she doubles over moaning.
Boop says:
"How about... something that doesn't involve too much... movement next?"
"Yes please, letā€™s find a nice cool glade to sit and digest - didnā€™t the flyer say something about a riddle teller? How about that next?"
Mar 28, 2022 6:36 pm
Smiling at Calla and Ardeth, the half-drow gives the two hungry-no-more ladies a big thumb-up, while his right rests on his belly and tries its best to calm the commotion down.

"We should sit down somewhere and see other people competing." Faelan proclaims with a somewhat strained tone. Just a few minutes would be fine. "We could get an advantage by watching other people fail." he suggests with a wink.

Herding tortoises must we definitely wait. Maybe MAYBE the riddle thing, but giving their bodies time to digest would be his number one option at the moment.

The party, with most of them feeling quite bloated and slow, amble through the busy Jigow streets once again, now towards the next contest: 6, Riddles and Rhymes.

When they reach the spot marked on the map, they find an elderly goblin wearing a simple tunic and a cooking pot on his head presiding over a set of three tables. The crowd of the streets gives the tables a respectful berth, where a couple of people are thinking, rereadinf little passages of text on the table, and writing in little notebooks. One table holds a wooden box, the second displays a glittering star map of the Exandrian sky, and on the third rests a row of colored bottles. A banner hanging over the setup reads, "Test your wit with me, against these riddles three."

Pondering Drow
One participant in particular catches your attention, as you notice that he already has a medallion from this contest dangling around his neck, but he continues to ponder and scribble in his notebook, occasionally looking up to the third table, then making a note in his book.

He gives your group a quick glance as you step forward, measuring you up and considering your wits, but quickly continues his feverish thinking.

Elder Colbu Kaz
The goblin sitting behind the tables addresses your group as you approach in a slow, raspy, but happily singsongy voice, "Welcome, welcome, approach if you please. Your brain my game will surely tease.

"You can enter altogether, or without your friendly tether. Groups may deliberate amongst themselves, individuals must be quiet as elves.

"2 silver is the cost of a guess, so be sure your hunch is bound for success! Solve two of my riddles to receive the prize, you have an unlimited number of tries!"

OOC:
If you choose not to enter this contest as a whole group, please everyone put your answers in a note tag to me, otherwise you can talk openly about it.

Kailani links arms with Tereze and whispers: "Isn't this wonderful? Look at all the different riddles!" Without waiting for an answer she moves from table to table and glances at the intruiging puzzles. She already enjoys herself with this challenge.

"Let's see how our crew does when it comes to thinking, rather than fighting. What say you?" This time she addresses the others with an inviting gesture. To the goblin she turns and puts down enough gold for three guesses.

"An unlimited number we'll hardly need,
we are an ingenious group indeed.
So, good sir, please
let us take part -
with such wonderous riddles,
we can't wait to start!"

The young woman beams with good humour and happily smiles at the game master.

Burping a few times behind his hand, Faelan isn't persuaded that this is really a good idea. Nonetheless he follows the ladies in a slightly swaying step as they walk up to the riddle stand Listening carefully he exchanges looks with the others, before nodding towards his cheerful companion. This challenge they will win together.

Huddling close with his newly found teammates, he opens with: "The first one is easy. Bronze dragons live in the water. So I conclude the shells are a hint for the bronze dragon key."

Looking unconcerned he follows with: "The second one seems to be the two moons we have. Catha and Ruidus.

"But the third one? I have no clue at all."
Faelan admits ruefully. Thinking a bit harder for a few heartbeats, he looks into the faces of the others, if they seem to know what the answer could be.
OOC:
Hope this is okay for everybody. But as a longtime DnD and CR fan the first two seem rather easy for me.

Tereze walks over to look at the star map, appreciating its craftsmanship more than trying to figure out the riddle. The stars had always fascinated her and she knew several constellations off by heart.

Next, she strolls to the potions, her mouth a bit dry from all those pies. She nods a greeting to the the drow, before making her mind up about the bottles.

Finally, she goes to the wooden box and scratches her chin a bit. Walking all around the table to get a good look.

"I think I have a good grasp of this" She says as she circles back around to the group.

Religion Check Puzzle #2 DC13 - (1d20+3)

(11) + 3 = 14

Mar 29, 2022 6:16 pm
"Easy, huh?" Kailani raises an eyebrow. She moves towards the bottles, crouches down and looks through the different liquids.

The ones with blight, are the ones on the right side of purple - the green ones. They shouldn't take those. Even flasks hold naught but pain, so the white liquid cannot be the right one either...

Neither the first, nor the last bottle is the winning one.

She turns to her teammates, explains her reasoning and whispers, so only they can hear: "I believe it is either the third or the fifth one."
Mar 29, 2022 6:38 pm
Listening to Kailani with growing admiration, the half drow bows his head appreciating her logical mind. Taking the bronze dragon key, he puts it into the box and rotates it curiously if he was right in his assessment of the riddle.
Mar 29, 2022 6:38 pm
"The birds... They're taking about Catha and Ruidus, right?" Tereze says to the goblin, pointing out the two moons nestled in the stars.

She does a brief crossing of her arms in respect to them.

Elder Colbu Kaz
As you approach the tables with an answer, the Elder ricketily stands up from his chair with a smile and removes the pot from his head. A sound louder than it should be rings out as he bongs the pan on his knee.

For Faelen and Tereze, who stand across the table from the Elder, it suddenly seems like you've gone deaf. The din of the raucous city instantly, dizzyingly disappears. Anyone outside that 10ft radius sees everyone within it freeze and remain unmoving, and hear nothing as those within hear the Elder open his mouth and begin to speak, "Have you an answer?"

Drow
The drow leans over to the rest of your group outside the bubble, making sure to hide the contents of his notebook while speaking, "Have no fear, that is simply a way to prevent cheating. It is a magic effect that blocks any light or sound from crossing a boundary around the caster.

"Your team was quite swift with your answers. Should you be correct, I have to say that would be quite impressive."

Faelen picks up the bronze key and inserts it into the box. The sound of lightning and a small shower of magic confetti erupts from the box, a seeming success.

Tereze points to Catha and Ruidus on the map, and the Elder nods approvingly. "I give to you many congratulations, your success is cause for celebrations. For the mental feats your minds have done, this small medallion your party has won." The Elder pulls out a small medallion made of wood, with the shapes of a dragon's head, a constellation, and an overflowing bottle engraved into the front and hands it over to you. The barrier then falls and the rest of the party can now see the medallion in their hands.

"To you, your third fee I now owe, unless you'd still like to give it a go."

As the magical barrier descends around Tereze and Faelen, Calla puzzles over the remaining puzzle. "Third or fifth, third or fifth, third or fifth" she whispers to herself as she bounces back and forth between the bottles, waffling on which to drink. "But sky leaves a stain!" Decided, she leaps at the bottles and downs the fifth, purple bottle in one chug.

"I hope you're right Kailani!" she says, squeezing her eyes shut and bracing for who-knows-what to happen. Also in more than a little discomfort as the liquid added to the volume in her stomach.
Mar 30, 2022 2:50 pm
"Huzzah!" Tereze punches the air with the medal in her hand. "Another victory for.." Hmm. They hadn't really made a team name yet, though they certainly felt like a tight-knit one. "..us" She finishes lamely.

"Say, we'll probably need a team name if we're to sign up for this race later"
Mar 31, 2022 7:26 am
Feeling a bit better, Faelan accepts the medallion and smiles because of Tereze's air punch. As she mentions their freshly formed group has not found a name yet, he too is of the opinion that they should find one. "Let's get one or two more trophies. For all one knows something comes up." he suggests.

Pushing his snow-white hair behind his ears, he glances at the Colbu Kaz and Calla, if Kailani and the harengon had been right with the fifth purple bottle.

Remembering the map from a short while ago, he looks at the others, ask: "And now? I would suggest the tortoises. What do you think?"
