Presto doesn't respond to Varla. She just doesn't understand. If the tools are available, it would be irresponsible not to use them. If one of his friends got hurt and he hadn't used every opportunity to prevent it, wouldn't it partially be his fault? Wouldn't it MOSTLY be his fault?

The more power and knowledge he gains, the more he can prevent others from being hurt by evil forces. It's for the best.
