Diana gripped her staff as Sheila chanted, drawing on its magical reserves.

When the portal opened, she prepared to dart forward. However, the blood sigil struck her as unnerving. What foul art had these eeeevilll casters conjured?

Presto's mind begins to race. There is much that can be done without touching the symbol on the floor...

Before Hank goes... Anybody wanna try Arcana checks on that blood field?
Apr 25, 2023 2:46 pm
OOC:
Yes if that's allowed. I didn't really want to be shooting crazily. Although I expect Presto to roll better on this.
Hank tried to figure out if it was safe for him to fire his bow into the blood circle. And also spoke his mind to his couatl summons : "Friend couatl, can you tell what kind of magic it is, and whether it is evil?

OOC:
And you know Presto is already trying to figure out what's going on with that thing :D
OOC:
EDIT: With a 37 (and a nat 20), Presto can surely figure out what blood type makes up the sigil. Is it O? Is it AB+? It's probably AB+.

Rolls

Arcana - (1d20+17)

(20) + 17 = 37

Apr 25, 2023 7:42 pm
OOC:
It's AB+!
Presto's examination identified the blood sphere as powerful necromancy designed to drain and channel a person's life force to power a spell or empower another. A secondary effect was that the field absorbed external energies, whether magical, life force, or otherwise, to further fuel itself.
It was a high order spell but Presto felt sure he could dispel it.
OOC:
It's the equivalent of an 6th level spell. Presto can either burn a 6th level slot on Dispel Magic to end it with certainty or try to beat DC 16 using a regular 3rd level slot and an INT check. You can do that now, then we proceed.
Apr 27, 2023 4:05 pm
Presto can feel the blood magic involved in the spherical glyphs. It was necromancy, and knowing the three individuals inside it, it was either powered by Kosar or draining him. Possibly both. As much as Presto prefers to be conservative with his abilities, this was no time to hold back. He reaches within himself, drawing significant power forth and attempting to dispel and scatter the necromantic energies.
OOC:
Presto is going with the 6th level slot option. No half measures today! (0/2 6th level slots remaining. No more Chain Lightning/Disintegrate for us!)

After Presto cast his counterspell, the blood field was siphoned off to form the outline of a giant vampiric head whose fangs sucked it dry then vanished!
OOC:
Shields are down!
Hank! OPEN FIRE!
Apr 28, 2023 11:49 pm
Hank knew that wizards had all kinds of protection against enemy fire such as arrows and the like. Still, he had to unleash to see what other defences they had in store. To that end he aimed a volley each at both Kelek and Skylla, with a little special something for Kelek. If wizards can't see, they can't aim!
OOC:
2 arrows each at Kelek and Skylla. No advantage to that second roll if the first 19 doesn't hit. I rolled the force and radiant extra damage all together.
Also, using one instance of Arcane Shot for Shadow Arrow, 4d6 and also save WIS DC19 or be unable to see more than 5ft.

Presto's mind races, trying to think of what would cripple him if he were attacked. There were so many choices, but so few that could effectively target both Kelek and Skylla at once. He'd have to be lucky as well as skilled.

Presto begins to weave light into strange and disorienting shapes...
OOC:
There are too many possibilities and ideas! Nothing to do but try one of them and hope they roll like garbage.

Presto casts Hypnotic Pattern in a location that places Kelek and Scylla inside the cube. It can target Kosar as well, it won't hurt him. Kelek/Scylla need to make a DC 21 Wisdom save, please.

If they both fail (or if one of them fails), no one hurt them! Any damage will wake them up.
OOC:
If we get lucky, both will fail the save. If that happens, Bobby can grapple both of them (one per arm) and Presto can cast Anti-Magic Field. Then we can pretty much do whatever we want for an hour, or until one or the other manages to get loose (which will be hard with Bobby's magnanimous muscles).

Or whatever you folks can cook up, anyway, I'm happy to try any other strategy!

Bobby rages and rushes forward with Thunderclub and clobbers Scylla with it twice. His growl as doing so is almost animal-like as he ferociously tears into the enemy. In his head, Thunderclub sings with glee!
OOC:
Figure I'll still post attacks since Bobby comes up before Presto in initiative.

First, using Instinctive Pounce to enter rage and move up to half my speed (20ft) to close on an enemy - let's go with Scylla if she's close enough. He'll move more if needed.

This activates Storm Aura - anyone within 10ft of Bobby take 6 fire damage per turn. Friendly's in the aura gain Fire Resistance. If he's attacked by someone in the aura, Bobby can use a reaction to make them roll a save - on a fail, they take 20 fire damage.

He attacks twice. He uses Great Weapon Master to take -5 on attacks, but +10 to damage. He also uses Reckless Attack to gain advantage on melee attacks this turn, but enemies get advantage on attack rolls against him as well.

Rolls

Attack 1 - (1d20+11, 1d10+24)

1d20+11 : (12) + 11 = 23

1d10+24 : (1) + 24 = 25

Attack 2 - (1d20+11, 1d10+24)

1d20+11 : (10) + 11 = 21

1d10+24 : (8) + 24 = 32

Advantage attack roll for attack 1 - (1d20+11)

(13) + 11 = 24

Advantage attack roll for attack 2 - (1d20+11)

(18) + 11 = 29

Excellent point! And if you don't want to do the Presto plan, you're by now means beholden to it.

OOC:
Updated!
Much as the now not so young warriors have been thorns in his side for decades, Sheila's bolt stabbed deeply into one of Kelek's kidneys!

Skylla was a bit luckier, a hastily thrown up arcane shield deflected Bobby's first strike but was shattered by the second!

Presto's hypnotic pattern appeared near the far side of the demiplane but the evil wills of the spellcasters resisted its infatuating fractals! Kosar has seen distant galaxies far more fascinating, so he wasn't very impressed, either.

Diana glared through her pearlescent monocle, "Get over here, Kelek!"

She flexed her form and extended her hand in a fluid snap. A glistening braid of water flowed from her fingers, spiraling to slam into Kelek! The watery whip sought to snare and tug the accursed foe back toward the brave heroes.

While the water lashed, Di spun her staff in her other hand and fired off a shot with its extendible reach!
OOC:
Kelek gets the one-two punch:

Action: Water whip (DC 22 Dex) magical ability, not a spell. Take 3d10 bludgeoning and get dragged 25ft closer on a fail. Take half damage and remain in place on a save.

BA: Ki fueled strike on Kelek. On a hit, stunning strike. DC 22 Con save or become stunned until end of Di’s next turn.
Then she
