Congratulations on your graduation from the Armstrong-Glenn Dominion Space Force (DSF) Training Academy at Picard Crater on Luna, Earth orbit, Sol system. It is a proud day for you, your families, and the people of the Dominion of Humankind (DHK).
Unfortunately, we have a mission that will cut short your celebrations. Your School Commandant, Colonel Lucas Edson, summons you to his office.

"Marines, though this is an auspicious occasion, the work we do never ends. Most of our troops are already deploying throughout Dominion Space and you are among the last squads to head out. As such, I've delayed your departure so you can check out a spot of concern near Mendeleev Crater. Our Signals Corps has detected weird transmissions from the area but hasn't been able to determine their intent.

Your mission is to investigate and resolve the situation. Gear up and meet your dropship at the docks. Your pilot, Captain Jo "Tornado" Delham, will drop you one click out from the crater where you ask her to land and will pick you up when you're done.

Luna is considered to be under Dominion protection, so protect our turf! Stay frosty soldiers."

Dread Rating: 1
Mission Parameters: Investigate, Capture, Eliminate, Collect.

Archer Veillon didn't mind too much that the celebration was being cut short. He'd never been the festive type.

Training at the academy had been all about standing in a certain way, talking in a certain way, and walking in a certain way. He felt he hadn't really learned anything new or useful.
But he was excited to be going on a mission. That was something practical, something real.

"What kind of weird transmissions?" he asks in a direct and to-the-point way before remembering to add a "Sir"
Feb 15, 2023 12:38 am
The Colonel turns to stare at Archer.

"If we knew that marine, we wouldn't be sending you out there. Some encrypted mess that the boys at Signals Corps haven't been able to crack yet. And that usually means trouble."
Feb 15, 2023 1:15 am
Enzo waits patiently. He's learn the hard way that his wise-ass mouth gets him in trouble with the Colonel. He definitely didn't learn that lesson the first time. Or the fifth. But by this point in their training, he'd finally learned to shut up when the time was appropriate. At least, in front of the Colonel.

For now, though, he was intrigued by this mission. What was out there?

And hell, would this be his opportunity to get away from the DSF? Enzo never imagined it would be this soon in his career.
Feb 15, 2023 1:41 am
Athena strides past the jubilant crowd celebrating graduation. She scans the crowd with her piercing golden eyes, but there's no trace of joy or happiness on her face. She can't be bothered with the festive revelry that surrounds her, when her father still strongly opposes her decision to transfer to DSF to begin with. She feels an impatient restlessness that makes her long to be in the thick of the action. As she walks past the celebration and enters Colonel Edson’s office, she can't help but think that the real battle hasn't even begun yet. She longs to be in the thick of the action, taking on the challenges and dangers that lie ahead.

"Identify the source of the transmission, neutralize any possible threats. Be prepared for anything." She says. She turns around and scans the faces of her squad members, her gaze pausing a second on Enzo, like expecting him to come up with a flippant remark. Finally she turns back to the Colonel. "We won’t let you down, sir."
Feb 15, 2023 1:50 am
Edson turns to Athena, nodding at the young commander's assessment of the situation.

"Right. But if the threat happens to be alien in nature, do not forget to bring samples back for our lab boys for study. Alive if at all possible. We tend to learn more from vivisections than dissections. But if you can't capture any, or the situation is too dangerous, a dead alien or two is still fine. And do not forget to bring us any alien tech you might find."

He turns to the rest of you, a slight frown appearing on his features as his gaze lingers on Enzo perhaps a second or two longer than it should, and then continues.

"Alright, unless you have any more questions about the situation, you can head out. Better not keep Tornado waiting..."
Feb 15, 2023 1:54 am
"Fuuuck," Enzo says, half to himself. Despite it all, his own mouth couldn't stop itself before it spoke. "I gotta procure an evidence kit, don't I?"

"Pardon?"

Snaps Edson at Enzo.

"Language! Also, now's not the time to stop at the quartermaster's office! Just bring a live specimen or a body! No need for tweezers or test tubes for that! The lab boys can take care of that!"

He then turns to the rest of the group.

"Anyone else has some... brilliant insight they want to share?"

Richter was just doing his best to be unobtrusive. Chewing on a crayon, ultramarine colored, the most delicious one. Cleared his throat. "Huh-uh Commandant." He said by way of clearing himself of having to speak further.

The Colonel's face drop when he finally sees Richter chewing on a goddamn crayon...

"Are you..."

His unfinished question hanging in the air.

"Alright, get outta here! Go meet Tornado at the hangar right now!"

With this, you are all dismissed...
Feb 15, 2023 2:48 am
Snapping a quick salute, almost as if he knew he was going to be dismissed before the Colonel did. Richter double times it to the quartermaster, wanting first pick of battle rattle. He spent a lot of time in the armory and knew where all the good pieces were mentally prepared to grab the best suit of armor as soon as he got cleared.
Feb 15, 2023 8:57 am
Quiet and observant, the tall woman with white hair files out of Colonel Edson's office and heads immediately to the hangar to meet up with their pilot, as so ordered.
Feb 15, 2023 11:23 am
As she leaves the office, Athena turns her attention to her squad members. "You know the drill. Check your equipment, make sure everything’s in working order. We can't afford any malfunctions in the field. Gear up and get ready to move out."

Athena stands in front of her locker, the bright light reflecting off her sharp features as she reached for her combat gear. She pulls out her combat knife, the blade glinting as it caught the light. With practiced ease, she straps it to her thigh, the weight of it a familiar comfort.

Next, she reaches for her pistol, a sleek black weapon that fits snugly in her hand. She checks the ammo, making sure it was fully loaded before sliding it into the holster at her hip. The pulse rifle is the last item she pulls from the locker, the weapon gleaming under the bright light. She runs her hand over its smooth surface, feeling the weight of it in her grip.

Athena checks her reflection in the mirror, adjusting the straps of her vest and the pouches on her belt. After making sure everything’s ready, she turns to the rest of her squad. "Luna is under Dominion protection. It’s our responsibility to ensure it stays that way. We’re the last ones to head out, so let’s make sure we do this right. Let’s move." She says, heading out, her combat boots thudding against the floor as she makes her way to the transport ship.
Feb 15, 2023 1:51 pm
"Sir, yes, Sir!" Melena shouts while sharply saluting to the overeager young commander. She forces her face into a grim mask. All serious. All efficiant.
As AJ thuds away, she relaxes and finishes closing the last buckles. Melena can't help herself when it comes to teasing AJ. She respects the commanders capabilities having trained by her side, but her uptight demeanor is so tempting ... Also what is everybody so excited about? Weird transmissions - that does not seem too promising. She checks her arsenal and moves towards the hangar with the others.
Feb 15, 2023 1:58 pm
Enzo gives a lazy salute and then moves with the squad, following their squad commander.

He straps on his combat armor, pistol, and combat knife. Then he grabs a heavy, reinforced briefcase and carries it out to the hanger. The portable lab was probably the thing he hated most as a field scientist - no, that wasn't quite true. The lab was actually somewhat decent - it was just the idea of having to actually carry it around that bothered him. Enzo sighed inwardly; he missed his real lab.

As they walked to the hanger, Enzo looked up into the sky, as if he could see his real lab out there, somewhere. He quickly snaps back out of as he almost bangs his head against a bulkhead. Being tall had its disadvantages, sometimes.
Feb 15, 2023 2:44 pm
He doesn't know Archer thinks to himself at the Colonel's reply regarding the transmission. He had asked about the technical data of the signal. Frequency, pulse, patterns, static etc. That a signal was strange and unknown didn't mean there weren't many known things about it. It was just that the Colonel didn't know. The high-upss never did.
He wonders how AJ will be as a commander. She seemed competent enough.

Archer meticulously checked and double-checked his weapons and equipment. He had gotten a reject message for his request for a PDA. Stupid. He had said he needed one. So why didn't they issue him one?

Seeing everything else was in order he joined the squad for departure.
Feb 15, 2023 4:15 pm
Quickly grabbing your gear and checking it to make sure it's in working order, you make your way to the hangar where a petite woman is waiting for you next to a dropship which looks to have been ready to depart a while ago...

"Finally... You sure took your sweet-ass time to get here. Got lost on the way over or what?"

This must be Captain Jo "Tornado" Delham. Well, the Colonel did told you to not keep her waiting...

"Alright, get yer butts in! My instruction is to drop you 1km away from the southern edge of the Mendeleev Crater. Apparently, that's where this weird signal is originating from."

Note to players: It occurs to me that the Dead Rating mechanics is not explained in the Quickstart Rules. so here is a quick explanation of those rules.

Each adventure will have a Dread Rating (DR) which will give a pool of Dread Points for the referee and Glory Points for the PCs. So for example, an adventure with a DR of 2 gives a pool of 2 Dread Points to the referee and a pool of 2 Glory Points to the player party.

A player rolling a nat 1 (critical success) removes a Dread Point from the referee and grants an extra Glory Point to the PCs.
A player rolling a nat 20 (critical failure) removes a Glory Point from the PCs and gives a Dread Point to the referee.
No changes on account of the referee rolling a 1 or a 20...

Extra points above the initial rating are lost. If you expect to gain more points, you gotta spend those points first!

Those points can be spent to gain a variety of benefits during the game, including, but not limited to, a nanite boost for +50% AP, gaining intelligence or a special weapon, hop initiative, give an extra action to an ally, grant or deny a critical hit, etc.

So, since this particular scenario has a DR of 1, I have a pool of 1 Dread Point, and you have a pool of 1 Glory Point for your party.

Richter had a pretty decent understanding of where the sight lines of the cameras in the Armory were. After signing for the cleanest Standard Armor Kit, he skirted the slight lines and entered Charlie Teams section of the armory. He figured a few misplaced magazines wouldn't be missed. Carefully he grabbed the ones he could reach without stepping into the camera's line of sight and tucked them away into his armors webbing.

Turning around he entered the armory and as Corporal Jackson gave a rousing motivational speech he busied himself feeding the extra magazines into the portable ammunition foundry. When her speech was over he clapped a few times and then pulled the foundry out of the armory with a hand truck. Where had he acquired it was anyone's guess.

The Ass Chewing from Tornado was expected, they had been lollygagging their way through the motions, so they deserved it. Still Richter couldn't help but wince as he remembered the adage "there are old pilots, there are bold pilots, there are no old bold pilots" and to his chagrin he found himself at the mercy of a bold pilot.

Still he was serving a life sentence, or a death sentence as a Dominon Marine. He mostly ignored the ass chewing and spent the time loading and securing the ammo foundry into the drop pod. The previous issuer had left a poem written in permanent marker on the front panel.

"Oh mama don't cry for me
I want to be a Dominion Space Marine
Where I'll make Humanity proud
My flag will be my funeral shroud
My rifle is my only friend
Kept me safe through hell and back again
Where the enemy stands I'll give what for
I bask in the glow of the rising war
Oh mama don't cry for me
I AM A DOMINON SPACE MARINE"

"That's touching."

"Administrative delay, captain." AJ says. Of course they’re late, between scolding from the Colonel, Richter disappearing to godknowswhere and pulling out a whole ammo foundry, and Enzo not keeping his mouth shut. Chacón’s teasing is least of her problems. She gives Enzo a hard glare, following up with a generous smack on the head as he passes her. "Won’t happen again."

She gestures for other members to file in the dropship, before climbing in herself. Strapping herself in, she clasps her hands together between her legs waiting for the ship to take off. She could feel the hum of the engines as the ship prepares for takeoff. Her gaze sweeps over her team, and she gives a small nod of encouragement, silently conveying her confidence in their abilities, determined to make this mission a success, despite the delay, and the team's obvious shortcomings.

Okay, since you already requested the portable ammo foundry, you have no Purchase Rolls left. So no EVA suit, which you do not need anyways as your basic combat armor is already a sealed environment suit, better than a regular EVA suit.
If you want to lift a few more ammo clips from the quartermaster's office that's going to be an Accuracy check (I'll be generous and not give you a Disadvantage on that since you apparently already know all the cameras' blind spots, but the quartermasters and his helpers might very well be watching...).
Finally, you need Foundry Reloads to refill your Foundry, neither of which is portable by foot. You'll need some vehicle to bring it around, which seeing you no longer have any Purchase Rolls left is highly unlikely, unless you're willing to spend your party's Glory Point for that...

Archer enters the craft. He doesn't take too much notice of the pilot's remarks. Of course, she was annoyed that she had to wait, but they had to prepare. Typical marine Corp planning.

He sits down next to the tall scientist and straps in. "So what do you think this signal is? My bet is some just old long defunct equipment with a solar panel that has been woken by a ray of sun." he says ready to expand his theory further with a lot of technical details if the audience is there.
Feb 15, 2023 9:46 pm
Melena turns around to the technician. "In other words, nothing a good kick can't take care of." This is exactly what she has thought herself. What else could it be, so close to home? Some rotten luck. Dispatched late and on a mission of little to no consequence.

The rookie marine turns back and asks noone in particular: "What do we know about this crater anyways? Nothing special about it, I guess. Just a big ol' surface missing dirt, right?"

Skye had arrived at the transport first and one time, as so ordered. She garb, gear, and accoutrements were immaculate as usual. She took mental notes from her seat as the others arrived, entered, and interacted with each other. She gave Jackson a cursory salute and double-checked the straps which secured her to the seat.
Feb 15, 2023 9:59 pm
Delham was about to answer Archer's theory when Melena asked her question.

Mendeleev Crater is on the dark side of the moon..."

She then turns to Archer.

"...sorry honey, no suns' rays getting there..."

Then returns to debrief you of what she knows.

"The crater has a width of about 100km diameter and a depth of about 1km. the ground at the bottom of the crater is pretty much even, and pockmarked with a few more smaller crater. A good place to hide some illegal operation if you ask me. My money would be some smuggling operation. The signal came near the southern edge of the crater, so probably one of those smaller craters. Whoever's there, they clearly don't want to be noticed, but they done goofed up... Alright, hang on to your butts boys and girls, we're heading out!"

With this, as everyone has boarded the dropship, you leave the hangar. Jo "Tornado" Delham lives up to her reputation and can't help but mess with you a bit with some daring maneuvers, probably trying to see from what cloth you're cut from...

"I bet my next paycheck its the Greys."

AJ gives Skye a small nod, seeing she’s the first to strap in. "If it’s some old defunct equipment, they’d recognize the signal, don’t you think?" She says. However, encountering extraterrestrial life on their first mission, that would be rich.

The dropship lifts off and turns about in a few risky maneuvers. Athena doesn't like unnecessary risks while she's trying to focus on the mission, but she trusts that Delham knows what she's doing. She clasps her hands tightly in her lap and braces herself for the journey ahead.

"Yeah, prOBAAAably," Enzo starts, yelling half way through the word as ToRnAdO makes yet another sharp dive and just-as-sudden rise again. "Fuck, lady!" He snaps out.

"If it was old earth tech, they wouldn't be sending us out. This is some new tech or some alien tech."

"Course, you'd think if it was really important, they'd be sending out a more competent crew,"

Richter's face was obscured by the highly reflective visor on his helmet, the orange to blue gradient obscured any facial expression. The slight declination and turn of the head indicated Enzo had Richter's full attention. Richter, who emanated lethality said nothing. Just just kept that emotionless visor locked on Enzo as long as Enzo chose to hold contact.

Tornado starts flying low to the ground to avoid detection as you approach your destination, and eventually reach it. Tornado gracefully lands her dropship, a stark contrast from her daring maneuvers earlier.

"There we are. The Mendeleev Crater is about 1km that way."

She points to the north.

"Good luck guys."

"One Klick, roger."

Richter hops out first taking the point of the spear consulting the area map on his helmets heads up display for a path leading to a observation point that would allow for enfilade. Intending to establish a sector of dominance over the crater.

"Later!" Melena raises a hand to the pilot and steps outside. Her hands wander to feel for her rifle - a subconscious move - while she scans her surroundings. She catches up to Richter and looks in the direction he indicates, before checking all other directions again.
The young marine, cool as she'd like to be, can't deny the excitement. Even if this turns out to be an uneventful first mission - it is a mission. Melena breathes in and out, in and out, pushes back the butterflies in her stomach, then focuses on the task at hand.

Richter flicks his selective fire switch full auto as Malena takes his six o'clock. He scanned a forward minute of arc towards the crater. Hunkering on a knee as he continued to scan. He panned slowly to the left and back to the right, keeping his eyes moving. A trick he had remember from boot camp to keep them sensitive to motion. "Can't see shit out here." He grumbled and activated his armors navigation lights. Diodes under his knee plates and aside his helmet and rifle activated. "Gonna need to file a complaint to R&D, my boots are already icing up." Richter shifted his feet, cracking through frozen regolith and looked at the reading of his external thermometer. 140k His teeth chattered involuntarily as he read it. Shifting again he panned to the right, crunching through frozen regolith once more.

Despite the lack of landmarks to use to help in navigation, Richter's bearings seems flawless as he guides you unerringly towards the southern ridge of Mendeleev Crater.

Reaching the side of the crater, you can notice it is very much as Jo "Tornado" Delham had described it to you. The bottom of the crater looks pretty level and is pockmarked with smaller crater impacts. In one of those smaller craters about 100m from the southern ridge, you can seem some strange metallic glint. Looks like an installation of some sort, though you are still too far to make up any details.

Richter's route seems to have taken you to a point where the southern ridge had been broken up by another smaller impact crater. this route should make descending into the Mendeleev Crater easier, but will add up another 200m or so to your trek...
Feb 16, 2023 2:29 pm
Enzo let's out a deep breath as they finally land, and begins to unbuckle. He's still struggling with his straps as the two marines are already jumping out.

Finally unlatched, he grabs his Porta-Lab and makes his way towards the exit, ducking as hops out.

"I'm all for easier. Who cares if it's a little longer?
Feb 16, 2023 5:08 pm
"Good." Athena nods to Richter, the communicator clicks and her voice plays on each one’s intercom inside their helmet. "Lead the way. Stay close. Stop at crater edge for reassessment."

The team makes their way towards the crater, soil crunching and shifting beneath their feet as they walk, with a low, rhythmic sound. The landscape marked by countless impact craters, boring witness to the Luna’s tumultuous history.

As they arrive at the Mendeleev Crater, AJ gestures for everyone to stop. She pulls out a compact IR/UV binoculars, placing it in front of her eyes, her fingers working the buttons at the side as she tries to get a better look at the metallic glint down inside the crater.

A solid exit strategy is vital. Never let yourselves get trapped. Protect your crew at all costs. Sentences that are forever ingrained in the young marine surface in her consciousness, while she calculates possible dangers all around. For now, she feels calm and confident. Curious, too. What is down there? What does AJ see?

"Wanna know how I know its the Greys?" Richter asked rhetorically scanning the area around the glinting metal object in the crater. "I had a dream about them last night." He scanned 25 degree increments on the approach to the thing trying to ascertain its purpose. "My grandma told me dreams have a deeper meaning." There was a muddled chewing sound, like teeth on soft wax. "What do you suppose it means that I was fucking it?"

Archer follows the squad. He is happy to let Richter lead the way. It is wise to let the better-armed be at the front, just in case.

As they stop at the ridge's edge, he moves closer to get a better view of their objective. But as Archer has not been issued binoculars, he is in no better position than AJ to see what the crater hides.

AJ feels a vein on her forehead pulsing as she tries to focus on the target while the two men shamelessly embarrass themselves. "Disgusting. Leave everyone out of your kink." She says, "Keep the line open for communication."

"Possible hostiles detected approximately 200m from our current position." She refocuses her attention on the task at hand and reports her findings to the team, looking through the binoculars, "An antenna appears to be the source of the transmission. Looks like it’s attached to a generator and a temporary habitat. An extraterrestrial ship located nearby, alien in origin, might accommodate five to six people. No visible connection between the vessel and the antenna."

AJ turns, sees Veillon beside her and hands the binoculars to the technician. "Take a look. Tell me what you think."

The intercom clicks again as AJ addresses the rest of the squad, "Prepare to make approach. We’ll engage the ship first to prevent it from leaving the area. Disable the weaponry. Neutralize any potential hostiles onboard."

"Roger that surging forward."

Richter stepped off the cliffside letting microgravity do its thing. 200m fall on the Moon would be like a 10m fall on Earth. So Richter picked a side to roll out on and did so when he landed. A risky maneuver for someone who hadn't trained to be nimble as a cat in the hardsuit.

"Man this feels weird." He remarked as he descended at 1.62m/s slowly gaining velocity as gravity overcame his inertia. He plodded down about 20m below and repeated the maneuver hopping down the wall gracefully and quickly.

Enzo let's out a "Hrmmph," which clearly communicates that he's sorely disappointed in the corporal's decision, but he drops the topic nonetheless as things get more serious.

At the mention of hostiles, Enzo's entire posture changes, shifting into the posture of a trained marine ready for action. Despite his attempts otherwise, the academy actually did have an effect on him.

"Alright. I take a look."
Archer takes the binoculars and surveys the site, the antenna the ship and the generator.

He waits a bit with going a examination of the site and its purpose.First order of business is to assess any immediate threats or dangers, that AJ could have missed. Safety first.
Maybe he can spot something that would give the squad a tactical advantage.

Engaging a ship? This trip might not be so boring after all. Melena feels the weight of the explosives in her pack. Of course, they might be able to keep the vessel intact and screw around with it a bit - or, bring it back for research or whatever. Melena grins to herself then closes lines at the edge.
As Richter goes first, Melena is bound to stay with her crew, ready to defend. Although the big guy only knows the direct approach, they should also think about getting back up here and - if all goes well - with a prisoner at that.

Melena has no fancy binoculars, but she knows some of the terrain, having been born on this planet. Once more she scans for anything of interest.

Seeing nothing to alert the squad about, Archer continues his surveying of the site. He spends some time looking at the design and making of the generator and the antenna on the one hand and the design and making of the alien ship on the other hand. Are they made by different species?

He is trying to see if the technologies seem compatible or different, working on a hypothesis that the ship is alien but the "camp" is human, maybe using the antenna to signal the aliens?

Well, that's a critical success. I lose a Dread Point and you'd be gaining a Glory Point if you weren't already maxed out for this adventure...

Well, Archer can tell that this is all Grey Men technology. Dammit, seems like Richter was right after all... You hate it when Richter is right, because you never hear the end of it... The antenna seems to be plugged to a power conduit of sort, and a generator processing some sort of weird green fluid... And oh, yeah, looking closer, seems the ship is plugged to the power conduit after all... Probably what is giving power to the whole habitat. The wiring is really easy to overlook in this grey monotonous lunar terrain...

Richter dove the last few dozen meters into a belly flop, ending prone and began to crawl along the lunar surface on his elbows and knees. Someone had to get some light on the, whatever it was. Enzo recalls that the Colonel wanted as many samples as they could acquire. As the official crew scientist, that was his job. Which meant identifying which parts would be good to procure and which parts would be best left behind.

That's not something he could do from here.

"Copy that. Situation unchanged. No active hostiles detected. Needs further eval closer to target vicinity. Stay put and wait for backup. Do not approach alone." AJ says. Richter already went down into the crater, she appreciative the initiative, but she's not a fan of splitting the squad, especially when they don't know what they're dealing with.

"We proceed as a unit, Private." She answers Enzo. She puts her binoculars back in her pouch. "We'll get more information when we get closer. Let's move, everyone." She signals the squad to move in unison, descending into the crater.
Feb 18, 2023 7:57 am
Melena positions herself at the flank as the group moves. She tries to stay aware of what's behind them, while keeping the muzzle of her rifle pointed to the front. She does not actively aim at anything yet, just readies herself should the need arise. The young marine enjoys the flow their little group of misfits has gotten over the past weeks. They move together, as a unit, even if they don't easily get along in their off-time.
Feb 18, 2023 10:57 am
"I read ya, hunkering down."

Richter began to dig a ranger grave when told to hold position, he hoped it wouldn't up live to its name.

Enzo sticks with the squad, moving with them. He keeps his heavy case of a Porta-Lab in front of him as a shield, if needed.
Feb 18, 2023 4:51 pm
Following AJ's orders, you make your way down the side of the crater, quickly catching up to Richter because, well, he's crawling on the lunar ground... The big guy clearly didn't paid much attention to zero-G training because sound doesn't travel in a vacuum. Something which is easy to forget when you can hear your own steps crunch on the ground because of your own sealed suits.

The only reason to crawl then would be for visual, and seeing that since the habitat had no windows, is highly unlikely, that plus the habitat is inside a smaller crater, so until you get to that ridge, line of sight will be broken anyways...

You only pray they don't have scanners set up.

Eventually, you make the few hundred meters required to take you to the ridge of the smaller crater the alien structures are in. Being closer, you can easily estimate this smaller crater to be about 2km diameter with a dept of about 100m below the Mendeleev basin.
Feb 18, 2023 8:06 pm
"Hm. Seems like Richter got prescient dreams, coz as far as I can tell this whole site screams Grey Men technologies.

Oh, and the ship IS connected to the habitat. I guess that's what powers it all. Maybe cutting it will disrupt what ever they are doing?
he says handing the binoculars back to AJ and joining the team in their silent approach to the site.

For a moment, AJ could have sworn she saw movement on the other side of the crater (the smaller one you're standing at the ridge of), but just as she pays more attention to possible hostiles, it stops... Was it her imagination? Were you detected?
Feb 19, 2023 12:35 am
"More reasons to go for the ship then." AJ listens to Veillon's analysis of the situation and nods her head in agreement, her expression solemn beneath her helmet. Suddenly, a flash of movement catches her attention on the opposite side of the crater, but when she attempts to focus on it again, the movement has ceased. She gives it one last scan with her binoculars.

"Possible movement detected at our 1200." She says into her comm, her voice tight. "No time to waste. We’ll go for the ship." Descending into the crater, AJ moves quickly and directly towards the alien ship, feeling her heart pounding in her chest. As she approaches the ship's hull, she scans for what she believes to be the entrance, although the alien architecture makes it difficult to discern. "Can we get this open?"

He lamented as the alien material had scratched the near perfect mirror finish. A grumbled grunt as Richter attached the knife to the bayonet lug on his rifle.

"I mean its meant to fly in space... short of high explosives we ain't gonna scratch it."

Turning back to AJ's indicated 12 o'clock he raised his rifle to his shoulder and waited. "I don't have a visual let's keep frosty."

As you are now close to the ship, you see it looks like it's composed of liquid metal which somehow manages to keep this shape of this large, horizontal teardrop. This close, the thing almost looks... alive...

Then Richter takes his army knife and attempts to cut or rip through the surface. As soon as his knife makes contact, a jolt of electricity jumps from the ship to Richter. He takes... 1 point of damage (bypasses armor). Richter must now Save vs. Presence at a Disadvantage to avoid being stunned.

Enzo chuckles to himself as Richter gets zapped. Most people would learn their lesson from this, but he probably wouldn't.

"Maybe we should study the ship a bit before we try to force our way in?" Enzo suggests, holding up his Porta-Lab case. "The ship looks like some sort of non-Newtonian liquid metal. Absolutely amazing I can imagine how such a thing would work - impact resistant at high speeds, probably incredibly resistant to bullets. But if you move slow enough, you might be able to pass right through it. Might be why they charged the entire hull - to prevent anything from passing through except at a specific location or with a specific device keyed to the ship. Let's see if we can figure anything out."

Enzo's theories are fascinating, but to test those would require a sample to be recovered. Seeing what happened to Richter, Enzo is loathe to touch the ship so his theories will remain untested for the time being...
Feb 19, 2023 6:35 pm
"Permission to blow this can up, commander?" Melena does not take her hands off her rifle, but itches to give it a try. If Enzo is right, the impact might not put a scratch on the hull, the marine is curious though about what would happen. This in itself could be considered a scientific experiment, no? "How - if at all - do explosive charges affect Grey ships when on the ground" or something like that...

If she positions the charge right, the connection might falter or maybe be disrupted long enough that the door can be opened. "If it doesn't work, it might bring out the hostiles at least...". She raises an eyebrow in AJ's direction.
Feb 19, 2023 7:34 pm
AJ's expression tightens at the sight of the liquid metal ship. Enzo's explanation means it would be difficult to decipher the Greys technology. She considers asking Veillon to disable the electric field, but that would require physical contact and the risk of electrical shock. She weighs the options of disabling the electric field and the risks involved with physical contact, versus setting explosives and the risk of exposure.

"Okay." AJ looks to her team, scanning for any other viable solutions. When none are forthcoming, she meets Melena's eyes and nods. "Blow her up."
Feb 19, 2023 7:51 pm
"Aye, Aye" She picks the position most likely to impact the connection and the door and goes over there to position one of the two explosive charges she has been equipped with. "Blast radius is 5m tops, guys. Time to get where you need to go and be ready for whatever." As Melena kneels to repeat all steps endlessly repeated in the training drills, she cautiously avoids any direct physical contact with the vessel or its parts.

As soon as she is satisfied and feels she has done exactly what is needed, the marine steps back an appropriate distance. She puts one hand back on the rifle, while the other holds the detonator. "Here goes nothing."

"No, that ain't right." Richter had spent a lot of time chewing the guff, shooting the shit, jawing flappin', shit talking, and otherwise lollygagging and scuttlebutting to know that the entire Corps had the combined IQ of potato. It didn't matter what his eyes told him, whatever that thing was that just spoke, it wasn't a marine. Firstly, no Marine would complain about free fireworks, secondly no Marine was capable of a structured interrogative without a verbose litany of profanity. Thirdly, every Marine knew that every other Marine was, by virtue of their job description, perfectly sane.

"Corporal??!?" Richter drew a bead on the lead "marine" urgency and consternation evident in his voice. He took careful aim at the midsection and squeezed gently on the trigger. Just enough that the slightest movement would turn the thing pretending to be a marine into a leaky piece of meat. "The fuck kinda marine bitches about explosions?" "You heard the lady Grey, get your ass on that airlock!"

"Wha... B-but—"

Mr. Grey doesn't have time to finish his thought when the airlock opens, and a tall, thin humanoid with a large bulbous head, and the helmet to match, steps out, carrying some sort of case. You stand there for a moment, all surprised as it takes a few steps down the stairs before finally noticing you. It lets go of the case which slowly falls to the ground, and open, revealing alien-looking tools while unholstering its weapon. Looks like it was coming outside to fix something... perhaps they're not aware of your presence as Mr. Black thought they'd be... But if that's the case, you'll have to take it out before it can sound the alarm. You have a fight on your hands Marines!

Enzo paused for just a moment, "But they're not criminals either. Look at those two in the back. They're scared. Nervous. Uncertain. Only the one in front is sure of himself. Like a front man - a con man. Can't tell why they're here yet, but they're definitely not military."

Just then, the airlock opens and an actual fucking grey steps out. Holy shit, Richter was actually right.

Oof, that's a critical failure. Alphia takes aim and squeezes the trigger, but nothing happens. Looking at her gun, she notices the safety was still on. Such a rookie mistake.

Well, that's a loss of the party's Glory Point and me gaining a Dread Point, and seeing how criticals tend to get rolled often here, I think I'll spend it right away to give the Grey an extra action.

Taking advantage of the distraction of Alphia's gun not going off, the Grey will shoot (now I have 6 players and 3 NPCs, so I'll roll at random who it will be...).

Melena does not like their position between enemies and unknowns, but follows Alpha's movements. She aims her pulse rifle at the grey. However, the marine knows not to shoot without permission and bringing back a prisoner is different from bringing home a corpse. She focuses on aiming and trusts the others to signal danger coming from the three strange men. She is ready to shoot or turn around, if necessary.

"I AM BECOME DEATH!"

Richter belted, screaming, even though there was no way for his enemy to hear his war cry. It sounded like someone had taken a cattle prod to an alligator over the radio, which the low pass filter prevented any damage to his squad mates eardrums from the intensity of his shout. He didn't bother drawing a bead just prayed and sprayed a sustained cavalcade of fully automatic fire at the offending alien. The stream of fire only stopped when the automated cooling system kicked on and disabled input from his trigger after ten rounds.

Melena's single bullets fails to piece the aliens's protective suit, however, Richter's hail of bullets does significant damage to the creature's suit. Archer then attempts to fire his pistol, but gets a failure to feed (did you cleaned your gun before the mission Marine?). Also, that critical failure gives me another Dread Point since I spent my last one... I think I'll hold on to this one for now...

"Why are we firing? The Corporal hasn't given any command to fire! We could have captured him before he contacts his... Fuck! His radio!"

"Damn it! We should have waited for him to be on the other side of the ship! His ship is heavily conductive! It would have blocked his radio and any comms he has!" Enzo yells into his own comms.

Enzo's mind races as he drops to the ground, bullets blazing past him. He quickly opens his Porta-Lab and starts rummaging through his issues supplies.

"Do I have anything that can stop the radio? What do I need? A faraday cage would work, but of course they don't have the supplies for that. No... This won't work. No... No... I don't need to actually jam the signal, I just need to alter it. What can alter a signal? My own radio! I just need to aim amplify it... With this! Then direct it at him and blast it out on all channels - no! The same channel command discovered before they sent us to investigate! Yes!"

"Marines, engage that hostile now! Do not let it make contact with other Greys!" AJ barks into her comm, trying to overcome Richter’s roar of death. Fucking Mr. Black, standing out in the open arguing about some bullshit rescue that put the whole mission in danger. She's 100% writing him up after this is over. With swift and efficient movements, AJ raises her rifle, her finger tight on the trigger as she unleashes a burst of gunfire towards the lone Grey target.

OOC:
Burst is only 3d6 damage, and I just noticed that it is also done at Disadvantage, which I find weird as there are no such notes about full-auto... Still, until I can get to the bottom of that, I'll require a 2nd d20 roll.

Edit: Very interesting explanation @Joms.
Okay, I searched a bit and it seems to be a mistake in the quickstart guide. It is noted as 3d6 for burst on the equipment table on p.11 (continued on p.12), but then as 3d6+3 on the weapon damage table on p.12. In the actual rulebook, burst is noted as being 3d6 everywhere. However, I spotted yet another possible mistake as the single shot is listed as only 1d6 on p.36, but then as 1d6+1 on p.39 (which seems to be supported with the later aimed/sniper entries on p.39). Very weird. It would make sense for the pulse rifle to pack a bit more punch than your typical pistol, so I'll go ahead with 1d6+1 for single shot, but it seems that burst is very much only 3d6. I'll go ahead and note this on my important info thread.
Mar 3, 2023 2:04 am
OOC:
Full Auto being made without disadvantage is likely due to saturation. 10-20 bullets in about 2seconds in a 2sqft minute of arc is a lot of opportunities to hit, plus a tracer every 3rd makes compensation ezmode. Where burst fire getting disadvantage... is sorta sensible.

AJ's burst catches the grey squarely. You see splashes of red globule slowly floating down from the creature as a whitish plumes coming out of its suit shows it's running out of air. The thing is in really bad shape.

Mr. black, Mr. Grey, and Mrs. White will now take their shot, after which, if the Grey is still alive, it will attempt to save its own sorry skin... Your three mysterious friends shoot the Grey alien, but only manages glancing shots with their pistols, unable to penetrate its envirnoment suit.

The Grey will attempt to warn his allies, which will fail thanks to Enzo, and return fire what it perceives as the biggest thread right now, AJ, who was the one gravely wounding it. It will then also retreat back into the airlock (but cannot close it right away because he took his action to shoot). AJ is hit for 3 points of damage, but that should fail to inflict any significant damage to her combat armor...

AJ glares at Mr. Black and his lackeys, her patience already wearing thin. "We don’t have time for this. We go in, and hope we haven’t lost the element of surprise." She says. Stepping into the airlock, she kicks the Grey's lifeless body out, sending it tumbling into the blackness of space to make room.

"Take some samples," she orders while she peers inside the airlock, "Grab its communicator too. We'll let the tech guys sort it out."
Mar 4, 2023 9:51 pm
Richter follows into the airlock and beats his chest. He was purposefully hyperventilating, psyching himself up. "I'll take point, fuck this is gonna hurt."

"Alright, big guy. Let's just keep our cool", Melena states as she follows at the rear. She reloads, grabs the communicator and signals Enzo and the others to take samples later. Archer looks around and there doesn't seem to be any signs that you have attracted attention. Well, at least, there are no more hostiles to be seen.

Feeling the glares of both Melena and AJ, "Mr. Black" sheepishly nods. "Y-yeah, agreed... we should proceed..."

You all step into the airlock and you start collecting samples and alien tech, and keeping an eye on your strange guests. Mr. Black continues. "Alright, we just need to hack this airlock, and we're in. By the look of how that Grey came out, it looks like it wasn't expecting us. So maybe we still have the element of surprise, but we should still be careful; we're heading straight into enemy territory."
Mar 5, 2023 4:35 am
"Hold up a moment, Corporal. I'd like to examine this dude."

Enzo advances forward towards the downed Grey.

Yeah, just as I suspected. Look at this. It's maintenance gear. Probably to repair the damage to the explosion Melana caused. I bet they're out of power inside, and they thought it was something wrong with the ship. He came out expecting to do routine maintenance, not coming out in a firefight.

Fortunately, I jammed his comms before he could radio for help. You definitely have the initiative, Corporal. Just remember that the Colonel wants one alive. I'm going to stay here and see what other gear I can grab, I'll follow you in in a bit."

Richter picked up the laser rifle and proceeded to familiarize himself with it, the similarities in Grey and Human anatomies left it fairly intuitive. He slung it over his shoulder prepared to use it when his rifle was out of ammo.
Mar 5, 2023 4:07 pm
Well, the situation is that you can always wait after you're done here to take whatever sample you need. It's not like he's going to get up and run away... But yeah, Enzo would definitely need to gather tissue and blood samples, in addition to bring back whatever equipment that thing was carrying, like its laser rifle, its tool box, its environment suit (though it is very much damaged now), and whatever that last thing on its person is... it looks like a knife handle but with no blade... very strange...

Looking at the Grey more closely, Enzo realizes it looks like a mess of stitched up flesh and skin. Probably taken from other species. The creature looks more like classic depiction of the Frankenstein monster than what you'd expect a Grey to look like. Still, it has the long emaciated body, the large bulbous head, the large almond-shaped dark eyes, and the two small slits where the nose should be (which Dominion scientists assume must be their ears), but man does it look like it went through a meat grinder, and not because of your bullets! The thing also looks male, or at the very least it seems to be agendered. There doesn't seem to be any indication of pronounced mammary glands or wide child-bearing hips... but then again, you know nothing on how those things reproduce...

As for your three strange friends, they seem far more interested into getting inside than the dead Grey outside or his equipment for that matter.

As one of them starts to get funky with the next door, she says: "Seeing as we do most of the heavy lifting so far, it my be better to clue us in on some more details. You do want us to help you against these things, no? We've seen how you shoot, so ..." She makes a gesture that indicates it is only logical for the men to admit their shortcomings, think practically and start being more open with them.

Mr. Black turns around, pushing Mr. Grey's hand away. "Well now they do moron! Just had to open your big fucking mouth..."

Mr. Grey puts his hands up in the air. "Dude... calm down... big guns..." He simply says pointing in your direction for emphasis...

Mr. Black groans and then looks like he's calming down. "Shit! Alright, fair enough... The three of us are actually security consultants for Bennet Implementations Inc., BII for short. A while back, the higher ups noticed that a lot of their biological samples went missing. After a huge inside investigation, we discovered some rogue corporates were smuggling some of our samples to the fucking Greys. You could imagine this made the higher ups pretty pissed, but they also formulated a plan, catch those traitors, and offer them on a silver platter, along with their Grey allies to the Dominion. I guess they'd though this would help BII's standing with the Dominion, grant them some more tax breaks or some shit like that... Anyways, shit went sideways something fierce, the traitors found out we were on to them, and kidnapped the son of a couple of our top scientists, HV and Mary Roberts. The young man's name is Ellis Roberts. Can't really miss him, tall, good physical shape, curly sandy-blonde hair, blue eyes... Looks like his parents used their knowledge of biology to custom make themselves a designer baby... Eh, can't really blame them... @ Richter. You touch the door, running your hand along it to try and figure out how Greys would open them. At some point, as you run your fingers along the mid point of the door, you spot a light blink above your finger. Curious you run your hand back to this direction again, and there you see it again, a light blinking above your finger. There seems to be some sort of touch pad imbedded in the door itself. Now you just need to figure out the combination...

"Let's take a step back and figure this out before we destroy the entire airlock. We need to find another way in without alerting the Greys to our presence. Enzo, see if you can locate any weaknesses in the surrounding structure that we can exploit. Veillon, take a look again and see if Richter's attempt triggered anything."

He puts away his pistol and pulls out a small electric tool kit. He holds op various tools to see if any would be of use with the airlock. He finds one that seems to do the job and starts to work on the alien technology.

Thanks to Richter's messing around with the airlock, it gave Archer a new angle of approach for this puzzle. He tries the "brute force" method of trying random combinations for a few minutes when the airlock finally activates. You feel a change in pressure, and finally the inside door opens and LASER! A beam hits Mrs. White squarely in the chest. As she gets up with a groan, indicating she is fine, you see who, or rather what shot her; an automated laser turret. Those clever bastards... Further in the habitat, you see a whirl of movements, Greys getting into position and putting on the environment suit helmet, as if getting ready for an accidental decompression any moment now...

A hail of bullets ricochet inside the relatively delicate habitat with all of them missing their mark, but luckily ending their trajectory in tables, cabinets, or other piece of grey equipment, avoiding an explosive decompression... That is until Enzo shot right through the delicate membrane of the habitat. you can feel the atmosphere leaking as loose debris starts flying every which way inside the habitat which causes Mr. Black to angrily shout "Will you idiots stop spraying at random like that! You're going to kill our charge! The habitat is now breached, he probably only has moments to live! I can't see him from here, he has to be further back, we must hurry and break through!"

The Grey laser rifle is surprisingly intuitive in it's use. a laser flies toward the turret hitting it (roll 1d6+2 for damage please). Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any sort of rapid fire options on this thing... At least, if there are, they're locked behind far less intuitive manipulations of this weapons...

You can hear him curse at his rifle and give it a few thwacks to get it to work again as he dips behind cover once more... (this would give you a Glory Point, but IIRC, you already have one you did not used anyways...).

Then, the security consultants take aim and try to finish off this turret now that the armor has been mostly blown off... The turret is now nearly destroyed, but it does get to retaliate one last time... and AJ gets hit for 3 points of damage.

The buzz of activity at the back continues, what could they be doing back there?

Yeah, okay, about that, because there is some confusion as the adventure notes 2 different stats for the Grey's stun grenades, and it can't agree with itself on how it actually works, I think I've finally figured it out. So the damage does NOT bypass armor. The bad news is that you're not rolling to avoid the damage, but rather the stunning effect of the blast. So yeah, you all take 6 points of damage that applies to your armor (grenade's radius is 3 meters, the habitat's modules are like 5 meters wide at their widest, so yeah, I assume you're grouped up enough). Enzo stumbles from the grenade impact. His head is spinning and it's hard to concentrate. The voices in his earpiece seem to be screaming at him, but nothing makes it past the blaze of confusion that's overriding his thoughts.

His years of training as a scientist kick in, however, and he looks around to observe the situation. This gun isn't enough. There has to be something he can use that will turn the tide.

Next round buddy, we're still ending this round...

So by the looks of things, Mr. Grey, Mrs. White, Melena, Enzo, Archer, and Alphia all failed. Yeah, I guess the perfect location of the grenade could lenghten the stun duration, so I'll roll 2d6 for it... which adds up to 5 rounds... Not much of a difference for those who were already stunned...

Heeding Enzo's advice, Mr. Black shouts to his companions "You heard the man, aim for those crates! then we move out and try and find the boy!"

Mr. Black's and Mrs. White's concentrated shot tips the crate stack which ever so slightly fall towards the Greys. they notice too late and are burried underneath an avalanche of crates. The moon's low gravity doe not damage them, but they'll be stuck dealing with the new obstacle for a few rounds, giving you all a welcomed break. Sadly, Mr. Grey's shot ricochet at an awkward angle and comes back to hit... Alphia for 3 damage.

After a quick mumbled apology, they all get up to move toward the back of the habitat to find their charge. The remaining Greys seem nowhere to be seen; they probably boarded their strange ship...

Alphia is ready to fire at anything non-human she sees, luckily for Richter, he is excluded from that list...

Speaking of Richter, he has managed to get one of the Greys (the one who was least buried by the crates) disarmed and subdued, that, there is still movement underneath that pile of crates...

As for Archer he makes his way to the detached habitat, spotting a very still and bloodied form laying on a sort of operating table, various wicked surgical instruments on robotic arms surrounding it. From the distance, it does look like a young man in his early 20s with curly blonde hair. The security consultants seem to have spotted him as well and are converging towards his position.
May 3, 2023 7:19 pm
Melena flanks Archer immediately, gun not quite pointed, but ready.
May 3, 2023 9:13 pm
Enzo, still dizzy and discombobulated from the grenade, decides to hide behind a fallen table, to avoid any more shots coming his way.
May 3, 2023 9:32 pm
"Got movement over here. This dipshit seems to have surrendered."
May 4, 2023 7:37 am
AJ, recovering from the effects of the grenade, quickly regains her composure and points towards the operating table where Archer has found the young man. "That's our boy. Let's get him out of here."

"Good. The Colonel wants one alive." AJ says to Ritcher. "Keep an eye on him. Don't let him go anywhere."
May 4, 2023 7:42 am
"Copy! But I cant say I won't have to execute this one if his buddy keeps moving."
May 5, 2023 1:31 pm
"Is the boy still alive?" Enzo asks, getting up despite his head still being filled with grenade static. Man, that thing was a head killer! Like the worst hangover he'd ever had. Fortunately, it dissipated much faster than a hangover.

"We got anything to tie it up?" Enzo asks. "Someone look for something; this is a science lab, there's going to be something. I need to check on the patient."

The patient. This was Enzo's wheelhouse. This looks like exactly the sort of thing he had been doing for years; cutting people up, operating on them, implanting illegal bioware and genetic upgrades. Time to see what was happening to the patient. Time to see what they were trying to do and whether or not he could keep him alive.

As Enzo makes his query, Mr. Black turns towards him... "Oh yeah, sure, here..." and hands him two pairs of handcuffs. As the effect of the grenade clears, Enzo notices to young man is lying on the table quite dead. Looks like the Greys were collecting various biological samples from him from skin, organs, fat, bone marrow, etc. By the look etched on the young man's death mask, and the amount of congealed blood on the table, it looks like none of this was done humanely... Without an autopsy, it will be hard to determine exactly what killed him, whether it was the operation, the sudden decompression, or a combination of both... All three security consultants looks dejected at the sight of the scene, only Mr. Black seems to be in any shape to say anything... "Shit... those bastards! We're going to have to break the news to his folks..." After a quick nod to Mrs. White, she closes the boy's eyes, and then produces a body bag from her backpack.
May 5, 2023 1:54 pm
Enzo's voice crackles over their private channel radio, contacting AJ, "I can do an autopsy right now, if you want, corporal. It'll take a while, though. At least an hour. Or I can focus on collecting the most valuable scientific equipment. And what's the plan with the body? We letting these Corpo's take it, or is this whole place government property?"
May 6, 2023 8:50 pm
"He is dead alright" Archer replies. "If the aliens studied him it means he is part of whatever they are doing here. And since we were tasked to find out what they were doing, I reckon we need to include the body in our investigation."
May 7, 2023 2:00 am
Richter uses the cuffs to restrain the Grey and proceeded to flip it prone and drag it away from its comrade. He examined the creature closely. As his vision was clearing the Grey's face was all he could see through its own Vaccsuit. "Huh, its unfuckable." There was as much regret and disappointment as any man could offer in his saying this. Resigned he shrugged and moved over to the remaining Grey, disarmed it and stood on its chest. "God damn this one is even uglier. Hey Corporal can I smoke this one? Its looking at me funny."
May 7, 2023 3:10 am
AJ sighs as she hears that the boy is dead. "We don’t have time for an autopsy here," AJ says. "Enzo, gather whatever equipment you can, and make sure it's secure for transport. We're taking the body with us back to the base for investigation." She turns her attention to Mr. Black and his team, her eyes locking onto theirs. "We need to take the body, and you'll have to come with us to answer some questions. We'll make sure his family gets the closure they deserve."

"Cuff them both, Richter." AJ says, ignoring his comment. She steps out to see if the other Greys and their ship have left the scene.
May 7, 2023 3:33 am
"Got it top!"
May 7, 2023 3:39 pm
Mr. Black nods, though he seems a bit unsatisfied by the turns of event. "Listen, do you really need the body? Please, just let his parents bury him. It's not like an autopsy will reveal anything we didn't already knew; he most likely died from a combination of being cut open without any anesthetics and the sudden decompression of the habitat... Besides, in light of this tragedy, I'm sure BII will be more than happy to cooperate with the Dominion and offer them the identities of the traitors as well as any other details the Dominion might require."
May 7, 2023 4:19 pm
"Look, I'm a geneticist," Enzo says, as he walks around the lab looking at equipment that would be the most important to transport. He's mentally taking inventory, judging importance based off his own experience as a biohacker. "And there's a lot more to this than just cutting open a body. The Greys are known for performing genetic alterations, and you can't determine that with just a glance. An autopsy needs to be done. It's unlikely the government is going to allow you to just take this body away from them, not without breaking quite a few laws and paying off multiple people. So unless you want all of us, you included, to end up in a government prison, then yes, we have to take the body. The only way you are taking the body is if you're also buying all of us out of our military contracts."

Enzo is making it seem as if it's implausible to do this the way they want, but he's also planting a bug in their ear that it might be possible for them to work out a deal.
May 7, 2023 4:29 pm
"Performing genetics alterations? That's the first time I ever heard that. I thought they only took genetic material in order to patch themselves up... Well, if you say so..." Mr. Black still seems unsatisfied, but he's not giving you any problems.

Maybe Enzo can roll a Presence check since there seems to be a manipulation element to what he's saying...

Melena notices that aside from the medical lab which seems to be rather well furnished, probably for that whole genetic material collection, the rest seems to be rather basic living accommodations, not unlike the Grey's equivalent of camping but with a bit more luxury. Sleeping pallets, tables, lighting, basic foodstuff, waste disposal, etc.

Archer, for his part, is more interested in the lab, and the Grey's medical tech seems much more advanced than the Dominion's by what little he can see. Especially what they seem to be using for the collection and preserving of viable biological samples.

Richter for his part is more interested in the waste disposal... for some reason, he convinced himself that what people really want is an alien porta potty...
May 9, 2023 6:02 am
AJ nods in agreement with Enzo's assessment. "Enzo's right. We need to know exactly what happened to this young man, and an autopsy is the only way to find out. We'll make sure the body's properly handled and the parents are appropriately compensated."

"Let's gather all the valuable scientific equipment we can and get out of here."

AJ gives a call to Captain Tornado. "Captain? We're ready for extraction."

May 12, 2023 12:42 pm
Belham seems less than impressed with Richer's potty humor... "Well, I'm not carrying two loads of shit back to base, so either you or your shitter gets on board, not both."

She nods, acknowledging AJ's explanation and then turns to the BII security consultants. "You guys need a lift back home? If I'm not mistaken you must be about 50 clicks from your corporation."

Mr. Black politely declines. "Thanks, but we don't want to intrude anymore on Dominion business than we already have. Besides, the sooner you perform that autopsy, the sooner his parents can get his body back. We'll manage to find our way back, don't worry about us..."

But to actually see one alive! And I was the one who captured it! This might turn out to be the best thing yet; the opportunity to work on grey genetic material, to experiment with it and see what we can do with it! We can enhance humanity!"

Enzo departs from the site with a mixture of excitement at the prospects do working on these new discoveries, and a bit of shame that he's actually considering trying to stay with the Dominion rather than make it on his own again. His own science vessel is still out there, hidden amongst the asteroid belt. "It'll be ok," he thought. He looked around at his crew - Corporal AJ was competent. Alphia was a fine medic. Archer was a top notch tech. Melena was as good a marine as he could think of. And Richter? Well, that lovable idiot at least is able to get things done when they needed getting done; when he paid attention to the Corporal, at least. "I can always go retrieve my ship later.
