Iroven climbed up next and stood beside Thomas. "We are from the Broken Tusk tribe, and we come in peace. We are exploring these caves for our people. You said that you are the Sutaki. Have you been living here in this cave all this time? Are you all that is present, or are there more of your people residing somewhere?"

"Nothing sensible lives in Calamity Cave," Onak laughs. "No. We're from the valley beyond."

"A village named Lyuba," Uldu explains.

Onak nods. "We..." he pauses, seemingly thinking about how much to say. "...we had to leave. The valley is ruled by a god-caller named Ashen Swale. He banned veneration of all past god callers and the gods they summoned. Now we are forced to worship the white dragon Venexus. All shrines were destroyed, but there are shrines inside these caves. We are here to pray."

"We sent some of our group to scout ahead," Lunit says. "You haven't seen them on your way in?"
Apr 16, 2025 11:45 am
"I'm afraid we have not," Koram says regarding their scouts.

"That is greatly troubling, to hear what has befallen your home." Koram looks to his companions. "We are from a great Following, the Broken Tusk. There are many of us, seeking a way through the pass and into your valley beyond. It sounds like this god-caller may make it difficult for us. If he will not allow us safe passage, it may be that we could help each other."

"A large following will have trouble passing," Lunit says. "He rules from a tower in the middle of the valley where they have great view in all directions."

"Any help would be welcome. But you really should talk to Eokoe. He's our leader."

The hunter looks worried towards the exit. "They really should have returned by now. I hope nothing has happened to them."

"We can go look for them. There are plentiful dangers in these caves. Is there something we should say by way of greeting, to avoid any initial confusion at to our intentions?"

Iroven nodded to Koram, "I agree with Master Koram here. We can help look for your leader and if possible, help you in resolving the issue of your god-caller."
Apr 18, 2025 10:51 am
Lunit nods. "That is more than we deserve with the greeting we gave you, but we would be grateful."

"They were heading to the west to look for the shrine," Uldu adds.

Koram nods. "If they should have reported back by now, they could be in trouble. We shouldn't wait." He looks to his companions, "Shall we?"
Apr 19, 2025 11:16 am
Iroven nodded, "Yes, we should look and search for Eokoe. Hopefully, he is alright and probably occupied with somethings."

You treat whatever injuries remain and climb back down and head to the west. You don't go far before the cave split into four directions.

To the south you can see that it opens into a grove filled with leafless trees with black twisted roots (1). To the north you can hear the sound of water (2) and continuing to the west you see two options. Rough limestone stairs looks to lead up to a natural bridge (3), the tunnel to the west also bends to the south underneath the bridge (4).

Iroven looked ahead, inspecting the distant grove, "I don't like the look of those trees. They look sick and malicious. Would you like to investigate it?"
Apr 21, 2025 6:13 pm
"On it" Tomas replies. He creeps forward to get a closer look at the twisted roots.

Koram hangs back and watches as Tomas looks the strange roots over. "What do your keen eyes say, Tomas?"
Apr 22, 2025 4:46 am
Artesia, also not liking the looks of the trees, holds back.

Moving closer Tomas can see a shape on the ground in the middle of the grove. It is the unmoving shape of a man, dressed similar to the hunters you just left.

More pressing is another hunter dangling from a tree, the branches wrapped about his neck.

He recognizes the trees as fiendish Arboreal Wardens. Arboreals are guardians of the forest and representatives of the trees. As long-lived as the woods they watch over, arboreals consider themselves parents and shepherds of trees rather than their gardeners. Arboreal wardens are the rangers of arboreal society. These have been twisted by some fiendish presence.

While only two of the trees are fiendish Arboreals, all the trees have been infested by some evil presence and they can all reach out to grab those that enters the chamber.

"Wardens of the forest ... but twisted? Tainted. This whole section is corrupted by some unseen evil. It will be a danger to the tribe if we cant find a way around" Tomas tells the others
Apr 23, 2025 1:46 am
"I don't much care for this," Koram says, "But I agree, we can't leave them here. Perhaps there could be a way to cleanse them of the corruption."
Apr 23, 2025 7:13 am
Iroven looked at the trees with disgust, "I don't know if we can set fire to these, but it looks like all these wardens are tainted. I am guessing we will have to fight these and clear the area in order to find whatever is tainting them?"

You can see the foot of the hanging hunter twitch. Seems he's still alive, but for how long.

"This won't stand. I will cut these people free, corruption be dammed" Tomas says, before preparing himself for the challenge. Tomas draws his hatchet in preparation to cut the hunter free and draws on the will of nature to deal with the lost Wardens.
