Fang picks up an oar, sizing it up. Gripping the very bottom, he swings it in a dead level sweep, the flat of the blade slamming into the creature, dealing a solid hit.

OOC:
damn I'd say I'd jump in after bildaweer to help him escape but I think I would sink like a rock lol. Fang can you turn into a shark?

OOC:
Dustin is going to jump in and try and save Bildaweer on his turn.
Jan 19, 2017 2:35 pm
Dustin cuts a short length of his rope and tied it about his hand and the dagger several times so he doesn't lose the dagger in the water. He then dove in trying to help Bildaweer.

Splash...

Dustin jumps into the dingy water and begins to thrash, his head sinking under the water.

Waiting on Bildaweer for his action before wee beastie goes.

Magic missiles.

Rolls

Magic missiles - (3d4+3)

(231) + 3 = 9

Bildaweer's missiles pump into the watery beast, sending more bits flying off!

Georges loads another bolt, and pumps a shot at the creature. It lands true, creating a small splash where it passes through the ensorcelled water.

The beast drags Bildaweer underwater, undeterred by the pummeling it took.

I cannot find a good ruling on this point online (other than a general "being underwater doesn't prevent spellcasting". So I want to pose it to you guys for your choice: when underwater, do you believe characters without Water Breathing should be able to cast spells with a verbal component? I have my opinion, but as we don't have a clearly spelled out bit (other than "gagged characters cannot cast spells with verbal components"), I'd like to know your thoughts. Bilda wasn't underwater yet (just IN the water), so this magic missile was no issue at all.

PCs may act

OOC:
This will probably bite me in the butt, but being underwater you might be able to cast one spell but then too much water can get in your mouth after that. So it is kind of like being gagged.

OOC:
I'd rather say being underwater would prevent me to cast. But, I still have my quarterstaff in hand, yes?
Jan 19, 2017 3:47 pm
OOC:
You do, yes. And this is only for casting with verbal components. If you have only material/somatic, you're good to go.
Jan 19, 2017 4:32 pm
OOC:
I agree that being underwater would prevent you from speaking properly enough to cast a spell with a verbal component.
Jan 19, 2017 4:35 pm
OOC:
I like to believe that magic comes more from believing in one's ability to cast it rather than the verbal components necessary to. But it's up to you guys.
Jan 19, 2017 4:37 pm
The issue of casting being resolved, our heroes are up to act! Bildaweer is blubbing and being held underwater by the beast. Dustin is blubbing because he forgot that legs and arms are to be used TOGETHER to swim. Fang is dripping wet and back on his boat. Cemos is still standing atop the boat, with a now dwindled supply of fishy javelins remaining.
Jan 19, 2017 4:39 pm
OOC:
Nah, the types of components are critical. It's been one of those things that they've covered a TON (specific pitches and tones in addition to knowing the words to invoke). Also, it gives dynamism to the game, since sometimes you can't move or can't speak or don't have access to the materials needed. :) Final ruling: spells with verbals cannot be cast while underwater.

Dustin tries to thrash and swim his way to Bildaweer.

See the power of belief...lol ok I'll stop.

OOC:
how close to the beast am I right now?

I want to take a running leap with just my hammer and smash that mofo while flying through the air.
