Keep in mind: Doing it with the dice essentially means we leave it to chance whether your former service makes a difference. If you would prefer, you can drop a Story Point and say you recognize the person at the desk as an old friend. In that case, you avoid the roll altogether. Totally up to you. The Story Point pool is currently 6/1 in the PCs' favor.
With this information, are you two planning to ask nicely (Charm)? Or do you want to use another strategy (like Coercion, or Leadership with Nekurr playing up his own priesthood, or Negotiation?
Nera answers his questions sequentially, using expressive head-shakes and body language as she considers each query.
"You just need to know who has connections, who does business with who, who can gather information, who you can go to for that info without taking a risk. We'll probably start with hobos and try a shop or two, or maybe we should..." Nera does her best to educate and reassure Tronus, already prowling for an informant.
"You there! Stop!" Suddenly, two guards from the gate nearby are galloping toward the carriage. The driver whips the reins hard, and the horses he's driving take off toward the East Gate and out of town. The guards continue in pursuit, leaving the area unserveilled for the moment.
A rookie mistake, Nera knows: Whoever that was, they didn't belong here, so the guards had their eyes on them. She also recognizes the person the noble--or whoever it was--was buying from: a two-bit fence who goes by the street name "Gorzo the Bold." If anyone knows about a recently burglary, he's as likely as any.
Mengus also knows that the Church of Saint Durvin has some connection to the Priests of Kellos, but he can't remember exactly what it is. However, the Order of Saint Durvin is rumored to be a bit jealous of the Order of Kellos, since Kellos is by far a more popular deity across Terrinoth.
(So, for those of you at the cathedral, the fact that the Priests of Saint Durvin feel inferior to the Priests of Kellos COULD be useful to you in a similar way. I leave it to you to figure out how you might work that into your own interaction with the treasurer!)
Tronus's approach sounds like a Charm check. Let's say in this case the difficulty is Average upgraded once (RP), but you get two boosts (B) since it will let him lie low for a bit. If Nera pipes in with some further incentive for the guy, that's worth a second boost. You also get a setback (Black) since he doesn't know either of you, so he doesn't totally trust you. Sum: BB(B for Nera) + RP + Bl
For the benefit of those of you learning the system, the difficulty here goes from Average (PP) to Average upgraded once (Red + Purple) because the fence has a Presence of 2 and 1 rank in Cool. When you roll a social check against someone, your difficulty is set by their own skills to resist you. In this case, Charm is resisted by Cool.
(These long GM rules explanations will fade as we keep playing! I just want to make sure those of you new to the system understand why you're rolling the dice you're rolling.)
"If you fear trouble we'll keep you safe from harm, these aren't just for show." She briefly looks to their own weapons, a display of their seriousness.

"Lady Argus asked me and my friend here, Mengus, to check on some land transfers and property records. Unlucky, some issues were raised over the inheritance of the property where St. Durvin's graveyard stands. Nothing serious really... We were hoping we'd be luck enough to find the right signatures in some documents here"
Still looking impressed, he stops to make a quick praise "This place is immaculate! I recently paid a visit to the Priests of Kellos and, let me tell you, they aren't half as dedicated as you. Have you visited their place?"

Once your food arrives, he takes a long gulp of ale and asks, "So what's this about?"
We don't need to fully RP this scene, since we're just doing background investigation at this point. So let's say your 4 successes allow you to ask 4 questions. Maybe each of you can pose a single question, then a single follow up once I give you his replies?
"Lady Argus asked me and my friend here, Mengus, to check on some land transfers and property records. "Well," he finally says. "You don't look like a priest." But at the mention of his office, you notice him crack a smile. "I'm glad you noticed the office. I find a messy office leads to a messy worker. Saint Durvin always understood that, which is why Kellos couldn't have overcome the Second Darkness without his help. As you no doubt know. Brother." You detect a slight sneer. "So you say you're here about the cemetery? On the old Dribbage property? Tell me that Vizeron Dribbage isn't trying to extort money out of the church yet again!"
As for the Story Point, I'll leave it up to you if you want to keep it for your next check. In a table-top game, you could have asked me to describe the office and then used my description in some way to play to his inferiority complex vs. the priests of Kellos. (Incidentally, the Cathedral of Kellos is in Vynelvale, another city.) For instance, if I'd described it as cluttered with books, you could have said, "Wow! Look at all these books! I've always loved how the priests of Saint Durvin value knowledge so much more than the Priests of Kellos!" In other words -- if you keep the Story Point, I'll let you upgrade your check, but it's not necessary for such a small narrative detail, since you could have spun any old description to fit your needs.
