OOC:
Lore might be applicable once they've been identified in the first place. Lore is more for identifying magic, magical items, religious paraphernalia, and the like, so it might tell you if they're used in witches' brews or if they are used as familiars or something. For identifying monsters and their habits, that's Adventuring. :)

" Do we need ta foind a different route? Let's attract the lizardman to us. Make friends. Let 'em show us da route. 'at's what we brought 'is junk for, roight?"

"I meant trying to drag and lift horses as well the cargo and wagon through the swamp. Lets not do that... although seeing this wee one get attacked by a horse is mildly amusing..."

OOC:
OK, sounds like y'all want to talk to the Lizardfolk but not commit to a swamp journey. So are we splitting the party? Who's going into the swamp to try to get the Lizardfolk trapper to come closer to the swamp's edge? And are you bringing the crate with you?
Feb 18, 2020 7:27 pm
Tronus grabs a bottle from the crate, "Let's go talk to the Fisher, someone watch the horses, cart, and the crate. If we're lucky maybe we can get him to watch the cart for a bottle..."
Feb 19, 2020 8:38 am
"So, you mean someone should stay and not go into that swamp full of skulls?" Nekurr looks at the others and then focus on Tronus "Well, you can count on me to keep the crate safe and sound while you take that nice gift to the friendly lizard!" he says as he pats the dwarf on his back, happy to take what he convinced himself was an important job.
Feb 19, 2020 11:22 am
"So you dont mind if some predator gets hungry and comes over to eat the horses and you. Good to see you stepping up, keep em safe." Tronus states with a nod, "I thought you'd want to go deal with a fisherman and chat them up instead."
Feb 19, 2020 12:33 pm
Nekurr stops to look at the dwarf, swallowing with difficulty. "What sort of predators are we talking about here? I guess I can talk with fishermen. They tend to like us men of faith. "
Feb 19, 2020 1:03 pm
Hildar looks at the horse and cart for a long few moments before he starts furiously flipping through a small notebook. Looking up he mutters a few words before the horses disappear from view, he frowns slightly when looking at the cart however "That should have been hidden as well, why didn't that....." he trails off into further muttering as he consults his notes again.
OOC:
Sorry, works been a bit crazy lately. Will try to drop a Mask on them (rolling with difficulty as you noted earlier)

Hope work eases up for you, mcneils! We're fighting a stomach bug at my house... :/
As Nekurr and Tronus debate whether someone should stay with the cart, the horses vanish from sight, revealing Hildar standing right behind them, wand pointed in the direction they once stood. The cart remains visible, however. Yet it seems like it's a much less inviting target for thieves with no horses to pull it, and even less attractive to would-be predators.

In debating what to do with the crate of wine, you also realize something odd: The crate is gone! It takes a moment to figure out what happened, but eventually Hildar realizes his spell was a bit too effective, and the crate is now invisible. The mage has to maintain his concentration to keep the spell active, so if he drops his concentration on the crate, it might also make the horses visible again...
OOC:
OK, so the horses are hidden! Hiding the cart with foliage and brambles is an Average (PP) Deception check, or I'll take Survival if someone wants to try that.

2 threat = the crate disappeared, too. That said, it's presumably still physically there, so I'm open to ideas to make it visible again if you want to do so.

Also, remember that making the crate more mobile is an Easy (P) Utility spell. Any of the magic users can try this; the way it manifests will just differ based on the flavor of magic. Bringing only a single wine bottle to negotiate with he lizard won't get you the same bang for your buck as having a whole crate full.

"Hey wait! Where did... What? Hildar, what did you do? the cleric steps away from anywhere he thinks plausible the horses are, just in case...
OOC:
It's invisible but we know it's there, so we can "touch" it right? If so, does taking the wine from inside reveal the contents as if pulling a rabbit out of an hat sort of trick?

Bruv sets about camouflaging the cart, "Oi think two at most go to confront the lizardman... Udderwoise we'd surely be too threatening. Probably anudder good talker, wit Tronus. Is'at anyone?"
OOC:
Spend the advantage to figure out how to make the wine visible? :P Or to camouflage a spot for one or more PCs?

Nekurr notices that the crate is still there -- he can feel its wooden surface -- but it's not visible to the naked eye. Opening the lid (which stays invisible), the wine is fully visible within.
OOC:
A couple of you could give Bruv a hand (adding 2 boosts) if you'd like. Might Make the difference on camouflaging the cart. If Nera helps, she adds her proficiency dice instead, as that's one of her specialties. If so, somebox, roll a yellow and we'll replace that fourth green.
Feb 19, 2020 5:13 pm
Nera pokes the invisible horse. "I will go. A spotter is necessary in such dangerous terrain."

I'll roll the extra dice just to keep things moving. Using those advantages to reveal a potential solution to making the crate visible.
With the invisible crate placed on the ground, Bruv and Tronus drag some branches over it and drape them across the cart. Nera looks at their handiwork from a distance and gives direction on how best to fully camouflage the cart. Once the task is finished, you all notice that in setting the crate on the ground, some mud splattered up onto it, making its outline faintly visible through the spatter pattern. If you wanted to make the crate visible without Hildar having to drop his magical mask over the horses, you decide a quick mud bath would do the trick.

With that, you plan to head back into the swamp to locate this Lizardfolk Nera located.
OOC:
Let me know if your character plans to stay behind, otherwise, I'll assume you're entering the swamp with the others. Also let me know if you're planning to carry the crate (will take two of you, who won't be able to take any other actions while you're carrying it), if you're fashioning a sledge/raft for it (another Easy (P) Survival check), or magicking it to be lighter to carry (Easy (P) Utility spell).

Does anyone want to go for the adventuring check on the dog bats? I can try it, but that's a GG PPP for me ;)
I think building a raft with the tree branches with a Easy (P) Survival check) is worth it :D. A GG P for me... Nera?
Feb 19, 2020 7:51 pm
OOC:
Thankfully Nera is both mechanically and story wise decent at survival checks.
Noting how cumbersome the crate will be Nera looks for some sturdy looking branches -possibly some vines too- to create a makeshift sled. It doesn't take long before she creates an ample device, thanks to the abundance of resources of the swamp. "How all I need is a harness and bit for the gentlemen who shall guide our cargo."
OOC:
Success & advantage to provide protection for cargo and decreasing how unwieldly it is for whoever gets the lucky opportunity to drag it?

So, everyone's going to meet with the Lizardman? What's the strategy for approach? I'd rather not belabor this encounter any more than necessary, but I want to know how to frame it. I think it's pretty clear he won't take kindly to a bunch of armed strangers dropping in, so how do you plan to calm him down?

negotiate a guide for the bottle of booze I snagged from the crate to a trading point with the tribe works. But that's me.
