Chapter 1: Burnt Offerings

Xandak makes eye contact with Urthask, bows deeply as both a greeting and thanks for his help, and turns to follow Gongar towards the North Gate.
Apr 2, 2016 3:42 am
Urthask returns the human's salute and urges Arktos forward. He is glad to have companions again, though he does not yet know their names, except for the one called Malik. Proper introductions can come later. His thoughts turn to his father. Before they disappeared, Galazur and his Riders patrolled these very streets once, and helped Daviren Hosk crush a goblin tribe that threatened the area. For the thousandth time Urthask wonders what became of his clansmen. In addition to protecting the populace, Urthask is now driven to investigate this new goblin threat as it might be a clue to solving the mystery of the Lost Riders.

"of course" states Daire. "monsters cause destruction wherever they trot, sometimes it's better to remove the monsters then it is to heal the damage caused by their passage." Having said his piece he moves with the other fighters towards the sounds of battle. Daire reflects on the history of Orc and Dwarvenkind and wonder's at traveling with one of their ilk, he will reserve his judgement for now.

Round One, North Gate

You rush toward the North Gate, turning the corner in time to see a group of goblins surrounding a lone man and his dog. There are seven goblins, one of which is mounted on a large goblin dog. The mounted goblin is wielding a polearm, and stabbing at the human's dog, which is barking and growling at the mounted creature, trying to protect his master.

You all watch as, suddenly, the goblin brings down his polearm on the dogs head, ending its life. The goblins cheer and begin to advance on the helpless man. As you skid to a halt they hear you and several of them turn around, baring weapons.

OOC:
Player's Turn!
Apr 4, 2016 4:50 pm
Urthask bellows "Die, vermin!" as he levels his lance at the mounted goblin and charges! Arktos and Urthask crash into the fray like an avalanche of claws, teeth, muscle, and steel. The ghost bear opens its maw and tries to rip the goblin mount's throat out.
OOC:
Distracting Charge
When Urthask charges and hits, allies gain a +2 bonus on their next attack roll against the target of that charge. This bonus must be used before Urthask's next turn, or it is lost.

Challenge
Once per day, a cavalier can challenge a foe to combat. As a swift action, the cavalier chooses one target within sight to challenge. Whenever an Order of the Bear beast rider issues a challenge, his allies receive a +1 circumstance bonus on melee attack rolls against the target of his challenge whenever he is threatening the target. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels the cavalier possesses. Challenging a foe requires much of the cavalier’s
concentration. The cavalier takes a –2 penalty to his Armor Class, except against attacks made by the target of his challenge.

*Choosing to Overrun G2 instead of the Disarm attempt on GB.
*Does Arktos also gain +2 to attack from Distracting Charge? If he does, I haven't factored that in.
*Also not factored in: +1 bonus to my attack roll (granted by Challenge).

Round One, North Gate continued
As Arktos and Urthask charge in and bowl over G2, knocking him to the ground, a crossbow bolt whizzes by and hits the mounted goblin in the side of his chest (5 damage). He almost loses his seat, but manages to catch himself at the last moment. His relief is short lived as Urthask's lance catches him in the side (10 damage), blowing through and out the other side, ending his life immediately.

The goblin dog growls loudly as he feels his master be blasted off of his back.

Daire charges in behind the great bear and his rider, launching his flail out in a quick arc to crush the skull of the now prone G2 (8 damage). His second strike hits the already dead creature, just for good measure.
OOC:

OOC:
I keep forgetting about this 3 action thing. I assume reloading a crossbow is one action? If so, can I move up 2 diagonal square to behind Daire?
Apr 5, 2016 4:41 pm
OOC:
Reloading a heavy crossbow is actually 2 actions. Light crossbows are only 1
Apr 5, 2016 4:53 pm
Gongar Sees Urthask charge the mounted goblin and figures that someone should at least try and cover the defenseless human. He runs straight toward the goblin in between him and the prone figure and Attacks with whip and hammer, then lashes at the unmounted goblin dog with his whip.
OOC:
OK, here's how I figured the modifiers: Two weapon fighting feat reduces the double attack to -2 Primary, -2 off hand since the whip is a light weapon. then the second whip attack is made at a -7 for the -5 second attack penalty. Then I add my attack bonus to each attack for the final number.

Apr 5, 2016 11:14 pm
Xandak runs forward towards the goblin beside Urthask and launches a clenched fist directly at it's sternum, and then immediately follows up by bringing his knee forcefully upwards towards the goblin's jaw. He is prepared to either continue his assault on the goblin, or to move further towards the next, depending on the effectiveness of his first two strikes.

Action 1: Run to 1 square north of G3
Action 2: Attack G3, Flurry of Blows
Action 3: Either - 1) Attack again if G3 does not die, or 2) move to the square right of Urthask if G3 does die

Round One, North Gate End

Gongar rushes forward, launching his whip at G1 as he advances. He scores a nasty hit on the goblin's cheek (4 damage), leaving a long gash on it's face. His following hammer swing and attack on the goblin dog with his whip fail to connect.

Xandak has better luck with his attacks. His first jab lands on the goblin's sternum (8 damage) and you hear a loud crack as the bone breaks. His follow-up strike with his knew snaps the goblin's head back (6 damage). It falls lifelessly to the ground.

G1 screams wildly and begins viciously attacking Gongar. The skilled dwarf manages to fend off all of the goblin's attacks.

The goblin dog, furious at its master's death, bites at Arktos. It manages to get ahold of the great bear's neck (9 damage) and begins to tug back and forth, attempting to rip its throat out.
OOC:
Hit because of the -2 to AC from charge. I believe you have the Mounted Combatant feat if you want to attempt to avoid the attack. If the attack DOES hit, Arktos has to make a DC 12 Fortitude save or suffer an allergic reaction to the dog's bite (A creature affected by this rash takes a –2 penalty to Dexterity and Charisma for 1 day)
G6 steps up to the dangerous monk, slashing wildly with his jagged blade. He makes contact once and then again, drawing deep cuts on the monk's body (8 total damage: 4 and 4 damage)

G5 is hopelessly clumsy and misses on three consecutive attacks.

Urthask tries to maneuver Arktos away from the goblin dog's snapping jaws, but the monstrous mutt is too quick. Arktos roars in pain but the faithful bear continues to fight.
OOC:
Arktos is down to 2/11 hp.
Ok, I'm not sure if I did the attack bonuses correctly for the bear's Full Attack (bite, claw, claw). I gave Arktos a -5 on each subsequent attack.

Xandak has to fight his natural reaction to yell out in pain when he is sliced open by the Goblin's blade. That hurt - bad - but he manages to suppress it by focusing all of his anger and adrenaline on the goblin who wielded that sword, lashing out with his fists and feet in lightning succession.

4/12 HP

So here's what I'm doing - I'm just gonna roll three attacks. If any one of them kills G6, he will use the rest of them on G5. If somehow both G5 and G6 die, he will use any remaining attacks on the Goblin Dog.
OOC:
Edit: ... that might be some of the most frustrating rolling I've ever had...

Edit one more time since Power Attack has been clarified: the second attack should be 18 to hit with 7 damage, and my third attack was a 13 to hit with 7 damage

Dropping his lance, Urthask draws his sword. It flashes brightly in the sun, showing off the rune-etched blade and intricately carved handle in the shape of a raging bear. The sword comes flashing down twice in deadly arcs.
OOC:
Free action: drop lance
Action 1: draw bastard sword
Action 2: Attack at full bonus
Action 2: Attack at -5
Depending on who's still a threat after Arktos and Xandak's actions, Urthask targets Dog, G5, or G6 in that preferential order.

Gongar continues his attacks on G1. His first attack, with his whip is pushed aside by the goblin. The defense leaves the goblin open to Gongar's second attack with his hammer which slams into his chest (7 damage) and takes him down. He lashes out with his whip to try to trip G4 up, but has to pull his attack at the last moment as the man gets in the way of the attack.

Arktos roars in pain and begins to bite and claw at the disgusting creature that bit it. He bites at the little creature, but it is too quick and manages to duck back. A paw swipes across and the dog holds back, then lunges forward just in time to have its face horribly clawed by the powerful bear (8 damage).

Urthask drops his lance and draws his bastard sword to attempt to defend his faithful companion. He slashes at the creature twice, but the pained movements of his mount make it impossible to land a blow.

Daire rushes forward to aid his allies, flail spinning out in its chain. He lashes out once and the powerful weapon lands a solid blow on the goblin dog's skull (8 damage), killing it instantly.
OOC:
When a creature makes attacks with natural weapons you can use three actions to make a full attack with natural weapons, using all of them as they are in the stat block. They do NOT take the stacking -5 penalty
