OOC:
I am up for taking a look at either the weaver or pageant winner (more interested in weaver). Just need to know who's coming.
Aug 26, 2020 6:31 am
OOC:
That's a difficult one... I'm probably willing to trust the mayor, so B) sneak out probably. Nekurr would likely go A.2) sleep right here :D
Aug 26, 2020 10:00 am
OOC:
Well I’m assuming Hildar is asleep on that roll so next steps for him largely depend on whether he can be woken up or not (and if anyone would even try to). He’s not made any secret of the fact he likes the mayor so it would be a safe bet for everyone to assume that he would want to stay on good terms with him.
Aug 26, 2020 11:57 am
OOC:
There's also an all-of-the-above solution. I'd assume regardless of what you choose to do, you'll be sleeping in shifts? So those of you who want to leave now do so, with an excuse at the ready. Our two sleepyheads can sleep for the time being. One or two allies (Nera and/or Tronus?) stay with them in the manor to keep watch. Sneaking out is always an option at any point. You've just got lots of eyes on you, as folks are still getting ready for bed, etc.

If that sounds good, em, go ahead and narrate Bruv's exit.
Aug 26, 2020 3:27 pm
"Roight, well, Oi imagine 'at at least one guard is gonna accompany me ta da stable. So, moight be a good toime ta sneak out for anyone 'oo's doin' 'at... Let's plan on meetin' at our place* soon?", Bruv exits the front door nodding to the guards, "Oi, lads. Done seein' off moi comrades for da noight. Toime to fulfill my promise to old man Galbernost... shouldn'ta accepted his offer of his stable for sleep so quickly. But can't back out on 'im now, he's been so koind..."
OOC:
*Maybe we can retroactively decide where we decide to meet?

Let me know if a check is needed for that story?
Aug 26, 2020 3:52 pm
The guards look at each other in confusion, but then Castor Wayland opens his chamber door quickly and stumbles out in a muslin nightgown, carrying a candle in a brass holder. "What's this all about? What about the Galbernosts? Is something wrong with the accommodations here?"
OOC:
Yeah, give me a Deception check versus the mayor: RPP with five setbacks for motivational reasons.
Aug 26, 2020 4:12 pm
OOC:
LOL, 5 Setbacks?! Ok...

Will flip a Story Point. Annnd, argue for a Boost as I'm pretty sure I never said or committed to the Mayor that I would stay at his place.

Rolls

Deception

3 Advantage, 2 Failure, 3 Threat

Total: 2 Failure

Possible Boost?

1 Success, 1 Advantage

Total: 1 Success, 1 Advantage

Aug 27, 2020 1:25 am
OOC:
Yeah, with 4 different motivations, it's possible to get 6 setbacks if you go against them all. In this case, you are up against 3 of the 4! The boost makes sense, and that gives you an advantage to spend.
Wayland squints at Bruv and clicks his tongue in disbelief. "This desire to sleep amongst the hay wouldn't have something to do with wanting to follow up on your comrades' little visit to the weaver's hut, would it?" He shakes his head and continues, "I can't stop you, Mr. Bruv, but 'd urge you to go right to sleep. The last thing I need is for you to get yourself injured—or worse—by some poachers or lizard folk."

The mayor walks Bruv out a ways and addresses the guards. "Would you three be so kind as to see Mr. Bruv safely to Bressel Galbernost's place? Wake Mr. Galbernost up and give him my apologies. Make sure he makes room for Mr. Bruv in the house." Glancing back at the Orc, he adds, "I won't have a baron's man sleeping in the hay. It's not befitting the office." Then to the guards, "Then you three come straight back. I'll wait for your return."

He then watches as the men lead Bruv down the path.
Aug 27, 2020 4:44 am
"Actually, Mayor, it 'as most ta do wit me not 'avin' any interest in takin' in an intoxicant 'at Oi'm not familiar wit. Oi'm on da job, as ya know. Gotta keep moi wits about me.

Oi've told ya Oi don't care dat yer growin' and usin' da stuff. 'at ain't moi business. But Oi do still 'ave business ta do.

So don't you worry bout me. Oi slept in worse places. 'An 'at's whoi Oi won't be sleepin' in Galbernost's 'ouse eider. Sure you understand.
"
OOC:
He's on to me, he can set a guard to watch over me or whatever, but spend Advantage on getting a concession to sleep outside?

"Wait! Did you just say lizards and bandids?" Nekurr gasps in horror "Then it is our duty to help you and the villagers put off those clear threats!". The cleric looks to everyone as seriously as his sleepy eyes allow "You are under the protection of the barony and we are still the braon's representatives!"
OOC:
I'll add a bonus because this is a very logical argument and some setbacks because the mayors motivation is elsewhere :D

I'll wait for the final result with any extra dice needed but 5 advantages!!!! He quits his job in shame and handles the village to Nekurr?

Rolls

Charm the man!

5 Success, 5 Advantage, 3 Failure

Total: 2 Success, 5 Advantage

OOC:
I thought Nekurr was already asleep? Bruv and the mayor are standing outside, meaning Nekurr wouldn't hear the conversation. But if you want to make him present with Bruv, we can do that for a Story Point?
The mayor pauses for a moment, a puzzled expression on his face. "Intoxicants? What in the baronies are you talkin'—" Then he seems to get it. "You mean the effigy I'm burning? It probably does seem odd to you city folk. The incense opens us up to Nature's Lady. This is the most important night of our calendar. Not sure if we've made that clear to you all. But—" He turns toward the door and makes to go back inside. "Look, I can move the thing into my own chamber if that's the issue. You won't even smell it. But if you're determined not to take me up on my hospitality, I won't stop you from heading over to Galbernost's farm. But the man needs to know you're there. Look, you folks're the ones who came in with tales of lizard folk and poachers..."
OOC:
We can use the advantage to reduce his ask to the guards. They will now only wake Galbernost up, not demand you sleep in his house.

So, no need to belabor the sleeping arrangement further. But hopefully it's clear by now that asking to move about any more without an escort is bound to meet with more and more resistance. If they're up to no good, it should be obvious why they don't want you roaming about. If they're on the level, you should realize by now that you all roaming about is disrupting their most important religious event of the year--sleep, dream dreams, be blessed by their goddess.

He was sleepy but from the last check I assumed he managed to stay awake a bit longer so he is following the noise

OK, you can be outside with Bruv if you want, but your Charm check will need to add +1 R and + 2 blacks. And I swear I'm not trying to kill you all by having you stay at the mayor's house!
Aug 28, 2020 8:30 am
OOC:
1 R and 2Ss coming for a final 2 success + 3 Advantages.
Defenitly using those for the mayors motivations. I'll go for fear now.
The roll is to convince him that we mean to help and will be willing to set up patrols shifts during the night or something like that sort of help. Maybe have 2 of us going out in turns? Nera obviously can just disappear :D

2 Threat

Total: 2 Threat

OOC:
Fear: He wants a family but doesn't have one.
He turns to Nekurr next. "Look, I know you folks mean well. But the last thing we need right now is for a bunch of outlanders to be all tromping around outside trying to protect us. We've been here for over a hundred years, and we've done just fine. Trust me: If these poachers of yours show up causing a scene, you'll be the first ones I wake up to help! Lady knows you're capable enough." He sighs. "But you all being out there trying to protect us would do more harm than good. We're religious folks here. Tonight's the night Our Lady sends us dreams—dreams of blessings she'll send in the coming year. It probably sounds cockamamie to you. But we believe if we don't dream it, we won't get it. For me, I wouldn't mind a nice little family of my own, you know? Some kids? Carry on the name? But if I'm up worrying about you all, I won't be sleeping and I definitely won't be dreaming. Same for everyone else. If you all are out there making noise and worrying folks, they won't dream and get their blessings either. So, please. Go to bed. Let us dream our dreams."
OOC:
Boosts and setbacks for Nekurr's motivations. Nekurr feels that the Mayor is sincerely passionate about the religious significance of this night and worries that a band of outsiders are going to muck it up. But 2 threat for you to spend.

Charm on Nekurr

get the villagers to relax about us as they to agree we could be helpful despite the mayors worries? maybe get some boosts to sneak?

Also, if everyone wants to sleep... doesn't that mean we can go around freely at some point? :D

OOC:
Just noticed you have Clever Retort, so you can bump his Threat to 4 if you want. Getting him to relax about letting you go unsupervised around the village is going to be a no-go. That butts up against all of his motivations. You're a HUGE unknown that has shown itself to be quite martially competent on their most sacred night of the year when the only thing people need to do to ensure blessings is to go to sleep.

But, yeah, the 2 threat (or 4 if you use the talent) might mean he eases up on how many guards will be on the manor? I fully expect y'all to sneak out once he's satisfied you'll finally go to sleep, so it might make your escape easier. Let's say 2 threat = 1 fewer guard, 4 threat = 2 fewer guards?
Aug 28, 2020 4:41 pm
OOC:
4 threat = 2 fewer guards sounds right like what Nera is looking for ;)
Aug 29, 2020 3:17 pm
OOC:
The only question is if anyone wants to come with (or at this point confirm, less guards is certainly helpful).
Aug 31, 2020 2:23 am
Wayland yawns and shrugs his shoulders. "Look, Mr. Bruv. I'll move the effigy into my chamber and open the window. You and your comrades won't smell even a whiff of incense. But if you still want to sleep in the hay, I'll send a couple of these fine men to let Bressel know." He claps Nekurr on the back. "With the house full of your friends here, I'm less worried about our safety, but I'll keep a man on the house just in case."
OOC:
OK, so mayor is moving the effigy where it won't affect you. (And no GM trickery at play here. It's not an issue now.)

If Bruv still wants to go to the Galbernost farm, let me know, em. It's no hassle to have y'all split up for the time being.

Then, I need to know what your watch order will be. (I'm assuming from the general paranoia that you'll be taking turns at watch, right? Assuming it's about 1 AM or so, it's 5 hours till dawn. If Bruv sticks around, that could mean 1-hour shifts for each of you, or without Bruv, 1-hour-15-minute shifts, of double up duty for two 2.5-hour shifts.)
