OOC:
Both Triumphs sound good. Will use the 2 threat to delay the full effect until the top of next round. That means you've eliminated darkness penalties versus them, but not yet the concealment penalties. (But that will come.)

1 more PC. Tronus or Bruv?
Honing in on the location where the sounds seem to be concentrated, Hildar conjures a stream of fire from his wand. The flames start to dance before the Elf mage, joining together into a hoop of reds and yellows that spirals out toward the cornfield. Yet the flames come to rest just above the corn, stubbornly refusing to burn the grain away for the moment at least...

OOC:
Will concentrate/maneuver to maintain Augment. Then can I use an Action to make an Athletics/try to close ground on the chase?

Or is it that Range Bands are simply the "terms" of the chase? If so, then I will just use my Action to move/continue pursuing them I guess? Maybe a Survival to pick up a specific set of tracks?
Sep 30, 2020 6:08 pm
OOC:
Yeah, since they ran to long range, you can't do much more than just spend two maneuvers to try to close in on them. (I'm following the advice of the Forge podcast hosts about how foot chases are really about strain management more than opposed checks, while using the corn as an equalizer in how y'all use it creatively.) To that end, you're welcome to roll Average Athletics or Coordination to do what Nera did, finding a way to zag through the corn without it impeding your movement for a turn or two.
Sep 30, 2020 6:59 pm
OOC:
Well, I have the Swift to negate difficult terrain. But getting to make a check does potentially allow me to manage Strain (or you to inflict it).

What's the Diff on the Athletics?
Sep 30, 2020 10:26 pm
OOC:
Come my turn I would like to make a nonlethal arrow while keeping pace.
Oct 1, 2020 2:48 pm
"Keep going I've been up all day and I'm awake if I get a hold of them we'll have to heal them before they can talk." Tronus grumbles before he turns even more surly, "And what's that about now! I blame Nekurr!" he roars gnashing his teeth standing in place still shaking a fist debating on if he should hit the catfolk in the soft spot of his skull.
OOC:
Field Commander and SIR as a maneuver. (-2 Strain) Update: 3 PCs can perform a maneuver now for -1 Strain. I'll get back 1 strain. Two PCs (not Nera one get back 2 strain (uses one of the adv), the other gets back 1 strain, you both get a boost die for the next 2 rounds to your actions... yes this could even be Nekurr. I'll heal another strain.)

Sorry for the delay. Had a bajillion deadlines yesterday and today. So, please heed Remnant's explanation of the various buffs Tronus has just doled out. Nera can break off an arrow and fire, but remember they've moved to long range of you. For Bruv, I don't know that Athletics is going to do much, since you are under a Swift buff. That just frees you up to use your action for something else. As it stands, you pretty much have these guys trapped already; at this point, it's just a question of if you want to use other abilities to debuff/curse/contain them further.
You all notice a light in the mayor's house moving about frantically, presumably from the guard learning that the mayor isn't there. Hildar's ring of fire continues to hover over the fleeing bird-things...

OOC:
Bump for Bruv and Nera!
Oct 4, 2020 5:26 pm
Nera is checking her surroundings for any other surprise serpent attacks, spitting out some blood. Satisfied none currently exist she preps a nonlethal arrow. The sudden burst of light will make the shot easier, she still has to guess, but at least it's easier to spot the rustling corn.

OOC:
So, Nera can't do more than 2 maneuvers in a turn, so I don't think she can fire a non-lethal arrow in this round. She has to close to Medium range to fire (bow has a max range of medium, and it's 2 maneuvers from long to medium), and she has to break off an arrow (1 move maneuver). Fleet of Paw gives her a free Move maneuver, but she still is capped at 2 maneuvers max in a single turn.

So, we can keep the roll as-is if the intention is to do this: Move x 2 (get to medium), fire using the Painful Blow talent; if one dies, use a SP to keep them alive. That sound right?

Never mind, I overlooked Tronus's Field Commander. Nera's able to pull this all off for a grand total of 1 strain thanks to the extra maneuver he granted her. Nothing to see here. Move along!
Nera begins striding through the tall corn swiftly. Hearing Tronus's barked orders, she gets an idea for where the Night Creepers are located, allowing her to focus on taking a pawful of arrows and breaking off their tips as she moves. She gets within bow range and launches a volley of tipless arrows at the spot where the creepers are stuck in the cornstalks. The projectiles arc perfectly to sail through Hildar's magical ring of fire and pelt the masked figures.
OOC:
We'll inflict 1 strain on Nera for the 1 threat (making a total of 2 for her this round).

Bruv's up to finish the round.

Bruv moves through the cornstalks, as fast as he can, his magic allowing him to pass through it all unimpeded. He hones in on the location at the focus of Nera's arrows.
Oct 5, 2020 5:05 pm
Hildar's flames suddenly descend, burning away a ring of corn and leaving an open patch of field with the Night Creepers in the middle. From the glow of the ring of fire, Bruv and Nera glimpse the dark figures struggling to break free of a particularly dense patch of field Nekurr's prayer seems to have had them stumble into. Suddenly, one of them breaks free!
OOC:
Wow, everyone's rolling well! So, that means they are able to break the Ensnare of the cornstalks, and they get a Triumph to spend to boot.

As minions, you're essentially got them trapped thanks to Nera's Painful Blow -- minions cannot voluntarily suffer strain, but Painful Blow requires 2 strain each time a minion performs a maneuver, ergo minions are essentially immobilized by it.

So 2 threat for you all to spend. Then I'll reveal the Triumph. ;P

Could one of them curse they luck in a way that connects them to one of those evil gods maybe?

not sure if that's NPC threats or PC advantages ... maybe just setbacks if there is a social encounter during questioning?

OOC:
NPC threats generally equate to PC advantages 1-to-1, especially for narrative uses. We can use the threat to essentially reveal to you a motivation to potentially play to.
...Yet the Creepers don't stray far; one seems to be writhing on the ground, while the other two seem hobbled by Nera's arrow barrage. As you all draw closer, it becomes apparent that the one on the ground fell onto its sickle blade, which is still embedded in its leg. The other two crouch by their companion's side and turn their unblinking eyes toward you.

A short distance away stands a scarecrow post. But there is no scarecrow on it...
OOC:
That's the end of combat. Everyone can make strain recovery rolls (Discipline or Cool with no difficulty dice).

"Well I guess I can't blame you totally for this... Patch up as needed." Tronus states finally coming out of his original position drawing his shield and sword and eyes the trio as the rest assess and do their thing.
Oct 7, 2020 7:04 am
Nekurr stops running as the cornfield burns and hesitates for a moment. They should definitely be sleeping and not running into the fire with creepy bird men. But then he sees Tronus. Since he is also afraid of the dwarf he continues to check the creepers as soon as he notices the shield and sword being drawn. "Anyone looking like the mayor here?". The half-catfolk then looks back at the house to notice the villager's movements inside.
OOC:
So it's just 3 strain less since adv and triumph don't count right?

OOC:
By the basic rules, Triumph counts as a success, too, so that would be 4 total for you. But I think Triumphs should be cool in whatever context, so my houserule is that you get 5 for the Triumph, giving you 8 back total.
As he gets closer, Nekurr still can't quite make out whether these are masked humanoids or some sort of creature. Even with the flame, the lighting just isn't good enough. The one with the sickle through its leg lets out a caterwaul—"Aahhh!"—then starts hyperventilating.

Meanwhile, glancing over at the manor, you can see it's dark, but a lamplight is moving toward you, presumably held by the guard.

Bruv moves right up to the closest individual and says, "You oll 'ave been appre'ended under auttority of da Baron, for questioning in da ongoing investigation of missing taxes and official personnel. Please cooperate an' dis won't be any 'arder den it 'as to be...

Now please, each of ya remove your masks, and come peaceably wit us.

Wow! 6 strain back for Bruv with that roll.

Bruv's approach sounds like Leadership. If we treat it as a group check, that means you roll YYG+BB x RP+4 Black.
