OOC:
Do you have more of the poison on you? The sickles are only good for one use per application, so poking her won't do anything without more poison.

Second, what are you thinking as a player? If we were sitting around a table, what would you advocate the party do?
Dec 17, 2020 5:28 pm
OOC:
I thought we had more, if not I guess I'll have to subdue by way of knocking her out. I'm indifferent really to what's going on in the other room if we run into the thick of it. Also note to the team SB put Skeeter outside on the porch passed out.
Dec 17, 2020 6:00 pm
OOC:
I know Hildar swiped some poison from the minions you overwhelmed. Tronus took some of the other substance from the mayor's pantry, but I'm OK with saying he grabbed some poison, too, but it's used up now to poke the weaver. (That 2 threat needs to count for something!) Also, just FYI that any further attacks on the unconscious weaver (other than injection of poison, as Tronus is doing) are going to result in further critical injury rolls, which run the risk of killing her outright.

Since Remnant abstains, we're still left at an impasse. We're at the climax of the adventure, so let's come to a consensus, folks! :)
Dec 17, 2020 6:42 pm
OOC:
You already used the 2 threat for something else though no? She's not an innocent old lady mind you if attempt choke her out and you say her neck snaps I guess that's how it goes. Tronus will disable her from being conscious but various means available if I need to roll for that let me know.
Dec 17, 2020 7:03 pm
OOC:
Hildar wants to confront them, Bruv wants to confront them, if Tronus doesn't care, I think that's 2:1 with 1 abstention for confronting them?

If that's the case, since I haven't seen any input on my thoughts on the importance of rounding up/securing suspects, Bruv will cast Augment and go to drag Skeeter inside. Leaving Hildar and Nekurr to confront the Mayor party however they want.

Hildar whispers to the others "We need to play this carefully. If we cannot conclusively prove the mayor is responsible or at least involve with Mr Isles fate then he still has the legal authority in this region and if we pre-emptively use any force against him or his companions we could find ourselves on the wrong side of things. He may have secured the weaver because she is responsible for....this" he gestures to the spider infested remains. "Lets see what the mayor has to say about this situation" he turns and heads to the main room before shouting out "Mayor Wayland? Is that you? Could you join us in here please?"
OOC:
Will be waiting to shout until Bruv has moved to relocate Skeeter

OOC:
Will narrate more tomorrow, but just a quick clarification: 2 threat from Hildar's Knowledge check were used to have the weaver stir, basically as a threat that she might come to soon. I didn't mean to suggest she had already come to. But Tronus has put some more poison in her system, so I'd say her waking up is only going to happen if a despair pops up at this point.

More tomorrow.

OOC:
I wanted to be sure I wasn't mis-remembering where you left Skeeter, so I checked back. On p. 15 of the thread, it looks like you left him "near the porch." The porch itself is overgrown with weeds, so hiding him on it would have been difficult. But it is true that he's not as far away from the front door as I indicated on the map above. That gives Bruv a chance to grab him and hide him before the bird-people find him!
There's a moment of silence from the other side of the door. Then the mayor's voice sounds: "Hildar? That you? What in Mennara are you doing in this old house? You all right? I'm coming in..." The door creaks open, and Wayland peeks his head through. He's wearing black robes like the other Night Creepers, and he holds a bird mask in his arms. "What in tarnation is going on? I thought Anzila had gotten free."
OOC:
Let me get a social check from your group to help gauge his reaction. Charm vs. RRPP, Leadership vs. RRP, Negotiation vs. RRRP, Deception vs. RPP. Depending on your approach, I'll add in any necessary boosts or setbacks for his motivations. If you want to try Deception, roll (augmented) Nera's skill: YYGGG + BB for the assistance of Nekurr and Hildar.
Meanwhile, Bruv bounds back through the decrepit house's front room, where Tronus seems to have given the weaver another dose of knock-out poison. The Orc opens the front door carefully, knowing that the Night Creepers will find Zymph once they turn the corner...
OOC:
How'd you like to try to secure Zymph's body, emsquared? Rely on speed and strength to reach him quickly and yank him back to the weeds of the front porch (Athletics)? Let's call that Hard (PPP). Sneak over to him first with an Average (PP) Stealth check, then do magic?
Dec 21, 2020 10:29 am
OOC:
I'm fine with all choices, so wanted to expand the options :D
Nekurr looks at Hildar, clearly the most knowledgeable in this sort of boring legal wordy stuff and automatically tends to agree witht he highly educated elf. Though this time he points out the window "But the mayor is also a birdman!"
OOC:
Nekurr has good YYYBB charm, knows his motivation and can influct a lot of social strain in an encounter, but maybe someone wants to deceipt a good excuse for why we're not sleeping?
Dec 21, 2020 1:56 pm
Hildar looks particularly grim as the Mayor steps in. Hildar studies his reactions as he speaks hoping that Nera and the others pick up on anything he misses "We are fine Mayor, I'm afraid the explanation for our conduct will have to wait a few moments. Miss Anzila is quite secure for the moment but there is something I need you to see and hopefully provide an explantion for in the following room" he then turns to lead the Mayor back to where the body of the tax collector lay.
OOC:
Going to opt for Leadership as Hildar is trying to take charge of the situation but he's not lying or anything just omitting an explanation at this point. Will be dropping a SP to assist my check as well.....hmmm, not sure about the Triumph at this point. Open to suggestions but thinking to see if there are any other dice coming that may affect the check

Rolls

Leadership

2 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Triumph, 3 Failure

Total: 1 Failure, 1 Advantage, 1 Triumph

assistance, motivational modifiers

3 Success, 2 Advantage, 1 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 2 Success, 1 Advantage

Dec 21, 2020 2:42 pm
OOC:
Could the triumph be the mayor's reaction to seeing the body? maybe giving him a prolonged for social contant setback for being "without words"?
Dec 21, 2020 3:53 pm
Bruv hurries out to the spot where they left Skeeter, he wants to be sure the man is in their custody.

But if/once found, he will just drag him back into the house at a natural, unhurried - and therefore unsuspicious - rate. Tranquilizing the man may be unconventional, but given the circumstances, Bruv does not think they've done anything wrong.

If spotted by whomever is accompanying the Mayor, he will just proved inside, urging the third party to follow him in.
OOC:
Will use one Advantage to recover a Strain, and the other 3 could I use to effect someone else with the spell? Tronus would probably make most sense, as Bruv was on his way to Skeeter when he cast.

Rolls

Augment, Primal Fury, Signature Spell

1 Success, 6 Advantage, 2 Threat

Total: 1 Success, 4 Advantage

Dec 21, 2020 6:17 pm
OOC:
So, I think everyone is augmented at this point? In that case, the assistance on Hildar's check becomes +GGB instead of +BB. Brings the final tally to 1 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Triumph.

Before I narrate his response, thoughts on the Advantage and Triumph? Having him rendered speechless is possible, but I'm not sure how that would help you unless you want to go Perry Mason on him and try to pile up some Coercion or Leadership checks, treating this as a social combat?

Also a reminder: Hildar's Mask on Bruv is broken now since Bruv is out of Short range. But Tronus still looks and sounds like Skeeter at this point. Hildar, Nekurr, and Nera are just wearing Night Creeper costumes.
Dec 21, 2020 6:35 pm
OOC:
Tronus now has Bruv's Augment + Primal Fury on him. This replaces Nekurr's previous augment (doesn't stack). Just means Tronus gets basic Augment boost plus the Primal Fury bonuses.
Bruv finds Zymph's limp body where he left it, so he quickly grabs the man under his arms and begins dragging him methodically toward the front porch. Interestingly, he notices that the sickle-fingered scarecrow is no longer on its post.

A pair of bird-masked people round the corner right as Bruv is about halfway toward the overgrown porch. One of them calls out, "Hey! Drop him!" They start running toward the Orc.
OOC:
OK, Hard (PPP) Athletics to get Zymph only the porch before they reach you, +BlkBlk for low light, since the porch is so overgrown. Or you could try a social check against them to convince them to back off: Coercion or Leadership would both be RP+BlkBlkBlk; Deception PP+BlkBlkBlk. Other checks won't work in this situation. Barring that, roll initiative (Vigilance).
Dec 21, 2020 10:15 pm
OOC:
No, we want the mayor to be talking I think, or at least enough to proffer at least some information. How about the Triumph just give us a good read on the mayors reaction to seeing the body? Advantage for a setback to the ones about to chase Bruv down or a Boost for Bruv as they are momentarily torn between chasing him down and staying where the mayor is?

OOC:
If I'd have known Tronus was already Augmented I'd prefer to do something else with the Advantage. Like spend 2 for a free Maneuver (Guarded Stance), and just chalk the last one up to notice the missing Scarecrow? If not that's fine.
Bruv shouts out to his comrades as he drags Skeeter as far as he can until the Night Creepers are on him.

"It's da Creepers 'e's wit, fellas... and 'at Scarecrow is animated!"
OOC:
For reference, Bob, I will use Dodge if/when they attack me.

Rolls

Vigilance, Simple

1 Success, 2 Advantage

Total: 1 Success, 2 Advantage

OOC:
Triumph is enough to get his current-encounter motivation, so why don't we use it for that? Probably not a surprise that a ceremony is going on, but it's quite noteworthy that he's outright fessing up to it.

Em, that's perfectly fine to take Guarded Stance instead. Tronus has Nekurr's augment, in that case.
Wayland seems annoyed, and the still-masked people with him reach for their sickles, but he waves them off. "Wearing our sacred robes? Pressing into village affairs when I told you to back off again and again? I oughtta arrest the lot of you right now!" He heaves a deep sigh. "But I suppose I should give you the benefit of the doubt to show me what you need to show me. But better make it quick. We've got an important ceremony to finish."
OOC:
Em, Bruv wins initiative. They're only running toward you at this point, but it's nebulous enough that Bruv might protest self-defense if you want to attack. Otherwise, you can take your two move maneuvers and keep pulling Zymph, but it's arduous, so you'll only make it to the front steps without an Athletics check to just pick the guy up.

Rolls

Night Creepers Cool

1 Success, 1 Advantage

Total: 1 Success, 1 Advantage

Dec 22, 2020 9:51 am
Nekuur looks unsure at Hildar whispering as catly as possible. "Wasn't their sacred job to be sleeping all night?"
Dec 22, 2020 2:01 pm
"Yes....well, as I said I will be happy to proffer an explanation but there is a matter we need to discuss first" he leads the way into the other room and gestures to the decayed, half eaten body of the tax collector "It seems that Mr Isle didn't get very far with the towns taxes after all" Hildar says as he turns to see the Mayors reaction.
Dec 22, 2020 2:59 pm
OOC:
Can someone make a Knowledge Religion check to see if it jives that the whole robes/masks/sickle/creeping around at night-thing jives with the religion of the god they say they worship?

Also if they're "their" (implying collectively, as a village) sacred robes, why did the guards seem terrified of the Creepers?

As for Bruv, I will Maneuver to close to engage (double Maneuver if needed), and Brawl with action, choosing to do Strain.
Bruv calmly speaks as he approaches the Night Creepers in a martial stance, and he continues his speech in between bouts of the controlled violence he unleashes upon them, "Dis man is a suspect...", a knee and elbows fly, "...in da teft of...", a sweep and push kick, "... Baronial taxes...", spinning back-fist and knife-hand strikes, "... do not impede my investigation."
OOC:
So, I couldn't find where Augment is limited by the Characteristic cap, and the language of the spell indicates it effects/adds to the ability die of the pool, not the Characteristic directly, so it seems like I'm at YGGGGG... if that's incorrect Bob, just remove the results on the last green? And I guess I'll just roll the base melee attack Difficulty, as I don't know if they have Adversary or Defense, but please modify as needed.

Well, assuming that stands (which could be a big assumption)... I believe that's 10 Strain (4 Brawn+2 Cestus+2 Primal Fury+2 Success), and with the 3 Advantage I'll recover the 3 Strain I have from the previous casting (1), and the sustaining this round (2).

Let me know if I had to double Maneuver to close.

Forgot Guarded Stance Setback.
