OOC:
I think you're right that Augment can let you roll 6 dice. Since everyone's augmented now, I'm going to keep an eye on this spell, lest it be abused. (E.g., expect that if enough threat are rolled by a PC or advantages by an NPC, it might force the PC to lose their concentration and have to recast the spell. But so far so good.

Darkness and your guarded stance setback bring you to 1 success, 2 advantage, which you can use to recover 2 strain.

Bruv's blows strike the two Night Creepers before they see him coming. Both bird-masked figures keep their feet, but one in particular looks especially winded. The second one yells, "We're under attack!" as they both lunge forward with their sickles, slashing at the Orc.

As the dust settles, Bruv hears rustling in the tall reeds toward the sides of the house.
OOC:
Vanilla roll = 8 damage, 3 of which gets past your soak. If you want to Dodge, I can re-roll the first purple. Or Parry? If neither of those options, Bruv can make a Hard (PPP) Resilience check to resist the poison.

Plus spend the 3 threat how you will!

mcneils5 says:
"Yes....well, as I said I will be happy to proffer an explanation but there is a matter we need to discuss first" he leads the way into the other room and gestures to the decayed, half eaten body of the tax collector "It seems that Mr Isle didn't get very far with the towns taxes after all" Hildar says as he turns to see the Mayors reaction.
Back in the house, Mayor Wayland winces slightly upon seeing the body of Kellis Isle, but he and his masked comrades keep their composure. "This... this is a tragedy. The... unfortunate condition of your colleague only affirms my resolve to see this man's killer brought to justice." He looks Nekurr and Hildar squarely in the eye, one after the other. "That's why I'm asking you—as sworn defenders of the baron's law—not to interfere in the execution of Anzila, a witch whose been masquerading in our town as a simple weaver."
OOC:
So, let's interpret his failure here as you two not necessarily feeling compelled to help him execute Anzila (without necessarily indicating that he's got the legal authority to do so or vice versa). As always, you can try Vigilance to see if he's lying or hiding something, or to get a better understanding of his reaction to seeing Isle's body: using the Triumph to upgrade this, so RRRR. If you opt not to make this roll, his Triumph is to convince Nera, at least, that you might as well help him execute the weaver. :)

I told you earlier I'd use Dodge, I have 2 Ranks in it. Both those purples should be reds. I'm assuming my Defense die from my armor is in those Setbacks they rolled?

OOC:
Rerolled purples as reds. Was worth a shot! But same result (but Bruv does suffer strain for Dodge). The setbacks are darkness + armor, yes.
Dec 22, 2020 9:10 pm
OOC:
I will put their 3 Threat back into them as Strain, and I will Parry to negate the damage.
Dec 22, 2020 9:18 pm
OOC:
OK, that drops one of the two minions. We'll pause here to let the party inside catch up.
Bruv parries the sickle blows, smacking one of the two bird-faced figures in the process. The Night Creeper falls to the dirt in pain.

Definitely not trusting that man now
"Wait a moment! Executing?" Nekurr quickly interupts the mayor. "I belive the... witch is allowed to speak in her defence under the
Baronial law."
he looks around to keep an eye on everyone's reactions. "She is a prime suspect on a crime against the barony, so she should be taken to be dealt with by the Baron's representatives.". The cleric turns whatever is left of the previous tax collector. "Didn't you say he left town with the taxes?"
OOC:
Advantage to recover (1?) strain. I think I'd add 2 threats to the mayor, maybe revealing/clarifying some of the lies that he told us?

Nekurr gets the impression that the mayor is not lying per se. But something tells him that Wayland is seizing on the discovery of Isle's body to further an execution that would have taken place regardless...

The man chuckles. "You and your baronial writs. You and I both know that local criminal matters are handled by local judiciaries across the baronies. And I do believe I remember correctly that your job here was to find out what happened to this poor man, not bring anyone to justice. Well, now you've done your job. Now stand by and let me do mine." He closes his eyes for a moment and mutters, "May Nature's Lady bless us in our sacred task."

You know that he's right from a purely legalistic point of view: He has the authority to punish criminals within his domain under baronial law. And if you could get the back tax money back, you'd satisfy your client. Whether you want to ignore all the strange circumstances of Anzila's execution is another matter entirely...
OOC:
Wanted to clarify some lore, as we keep going back and forth on it. Local jurisdictions can handle their local justice as they see fit, but there are standards. That said, executions are technically within the legal powers of duly appointed leaders of towns in the barony.

If you want to prevent the execution, we either go to combat, or we go to social combat if you want to try to talk him out of it. But this latter option implies you might be willing to compromise with him in some way.

Tronus sighs finally speaking, "It's great to sound clever and concise... but get your story right boy, due to religious belief first we should leave so you can do a ritual or local authority now states we should let you do your part to kill a lady you want to use as a scape goat. IF we're really doing our parts you lot are involved in Dark and Forbidden magic so we will act accordingly. An official is dead and you're trying to cover it up after the fact when you know you're related to the mess of it, drop your weapons and think about your village's actual future or you're end up like the demons and undead summoned by dark means that came to kill us before... broken and dust under our boots. Final warning."

"Making me come to a bitter old bird's defense... this guy." Tronus mutters aggravated now.
OOC:
This man has me defending the hag well being now... *cracks knuckles*
Dec 23, 2020 9:25 pm
OOC:
Is Nekurr still maintaining the mask spell on Tronus? I'm wondering how the mayor will respond if Skeeter Zymph has just come in berating him! :D

Also, Remnant, sounds like Tronus is making a Coercion check, though I'd take Leadership: Both vs. RRP+6 Blk, as preventing him from the execution is going against all of his motivations. If you'd rather not roll, I'll give him another go.
Dec 23, 2020 9:44 pm
Bruv moves to put the last Night Creeper out, before returning to Skeeter...
OOC:
Sunderland Orc/Tenacious gives me a Boost when attacking an enemy I've already hit. Action to Brawl (doing strain), incidental to use Second Wind (3 ranks), Maneuver to move back torward Skeeter of I manage to put the guy out.

Unbelievably dookie-butt rolls, wow. 8 Strain pre-Soak. If that's not enough to put him out, I'll Crit with the Advantage. Manuever back to Skeeter.

OOC:
I'm not really trying to convince or coerce in this situation considering what you're describing out of character now for their immediate intent versus the past what you've explained for his motivations doesn't add up or gel with what I said in character so a roll doesn't make sense to me in truth. I've said in character if they don't comply what I'm going to initiate and it sounds like noncompliance is what you're trying to imply.

Tronus draws his sword and shield for cautionary measures at first since people are brandishing sickles at him giving them enough time to drop weapons and starts moving towards the Mayor if the crowd doesn't immediately comply.
OOC:
If anyone makes sudden movements, the mayor starts to talk instead, or it looks like they will not comply use the roll below, mod as needed for an upgrade. My apologies in advance to the party.

OOC:
What I'm saying is that there's still a chance to get information out of the mayor rather than jumping to combat. You are all assuming there's a dark cult and they are doing dark magic, but you have no hard evidence for that. (It makes sense from a meta POV, of course. This is a fantasy game, and we're leaning into certain tropes.) So trying social combat for at least a round or two would be an opportunity to get more information out of the other side (getting him to reveal his motivations, and thereby getting a better understanding of what's going on). Why did he arrest Anzila if he didn't know about Isle being dead? Why were Zymph and the others looking for "the boy"? Does the mayor know that Zymph was looking for the boy? Why is there a secret meeting of robe-clad people at night at all? You'll need to work for that information, which means social checks, as it's not in his interest to tell you. But, again, barring that, you can try to kill or incapacitate them all and try to make sense of the battle afterward.

At any rate, "Final warning" definitely sounds like coercion to me. If you choose not to roll that check, we'll treat Tronus's warning as narrative roleplay, which is fine. In that case, we need to roll initiative before anybody can draw weapons, get protective spells up, or attack. All roll Cool in this case. We'll just roll these initiative checks into the order from Bruv and the outside group.

I'll try to get the enemy initiative rolled up soon, but I'm slowed down by the holiday. Happy Holidays, everyone!

I also forgot to resolve Bruv's combat check. My bad! You'll need to use the advantage to crit if you want to drop the second minion this round.

Just a reminder to myself: Bruv's initiative roll was 1 Success, 2 Advantage.
