"That's the worst of it? The Waylands all die?" Tronus muses aloud pulling his sword and shield out, "Thanks for the heads up Youngling... If it turns sideways at least I can make sure he doesn't rush in and eat your face."
Mar 15, 2021 12:35 pm
"Sideway, we kill witch" Nekurr says, now actually threatening Anzila, just in case she is hiding something.
Mar 15, 2021 1:37 pm
OOC:
You can try Coercion on her if you wish: Daunting (PPPP), but with 2 Blk. She's got nothing to lose, as she believes she's dead no matter what happens.

Bruv also mentioned sundering the sacrificial dagger, but I don't believe he's done that yet. Still the plan?
Mar 15, 2021 1:52 pm
OOC:
Those are some low probabilities... well, let's see what happens
[ +- ] Well, he looks scary enough
OOC:
GM edit: Ah, yes, were-Nekurr should probably get a boost on this for being scary!

Rolls

You die, but badly

5 Success, 1 Advantage, 3 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 2 Success, 1 Threat

OOC:
Wanted to give a chance for all players/PCs to respond before "completing" it.
As it appears there will be no open conflict, Bruv let's the primal energies drain from his hands. Instead he walks over to Nera and just asks for the dagger. Upon receiving it, he justs wraps the blade in a scrap of cloth and puts it in his pack.

Perhaps such a relic might conceivably come in handy in the undoing of whatever might happen come daybreak? Perhaps destroying it would add injury to insult for the dark god, and sparing the implement could ameliorate the situation in some small way? Perhaps it would just be evidence in their defense? But regardless, it seemed like retaining it was better than destruction.

Not knowing what else to do, Bruv begins performing a silent, primal anti-magic ritual until the sun rises.
OOC:
Just counter-spelling to add a Setback if possible against any "casting" the dark god might have to do to have her effect.

The woman shrinks back from Nekurr's snarling threats. "What else do you want me to say? The particulars of the Wayland pact died with Castor. But do you think I'd be so calm if I thought we were all doomed as soon as the sun comes up? No one can know the mind of a god. Only the people in the black robes know that Harridan is worshipped here in the first place. And maybe not even them. Castor certainly denied it when I enlightened him on the matter."
OOC:
OK, will have dawn break tomorrow IRL. With y'all refusing the sacrifice, it seems like the only course of action is to wait for the sun.
Mar 16, 2021 3:13 pm
At last, the black horizon turns dark blue as the sun begins to rise. The silence is palpable as everyone who isn't unconscious waits—for something, anything.
OOC:
Can I get a hard (PPP) Vigilance check from the group? Looks like, barring a Story Point, you're rolling YGG+BB (Tronus providing the heavy lifting here).
Mar 16, 2021 3:29 pm
OOC:
Rolls.

Rolls

Hard Vigilance Check

1 Success, 2 Advantage, 1 Failure, 2 Threat

Update of the booost

1 Success, 1 Advantage

Total: 1 Success, 1 Advantage

Mar 16, 2021 3:40 pm
OOC:
Group check would give you 3 Boosts (assuming no one has a higher Will or Vigi) to that, Rem.
Mar 16, 2021 4:57 pm
OOC:
Yep. Now we're at 1 success, 1 advantage. The roll was already to notice something, so thoughts on the 1 advantage?
Mar 16, 2021 7:05 pm
As the sky grows lighter, the first thing that hits you is the smell. You'd all grown used to Buzzard's Ford's stench, the treacly sweetness of overripe vegetables, an almost sickening odor. But now your noses register the smells of dirt and damp. The place smells like a swamp now.

Then you notice the sounds. The din of insects and frogs and other creatures seems to encroach from the borders of the town to your north. The silence of your waiting is gone.

After that, you notice the ground. Where once your footfalls hit hardpacked soil, there's a newfound sponginess to the ground as you walk.

The final thing you notice is a single, white dove that flies in from the swampland beyond the ritual circle. It alights on the top of the decrepit house where you are keeping Anzila and others prisoners. Then it takes off again, alighting on another housetop nearby.
OOC:
The dove is a result of advantage rolled, so on a meta-level, it's a good thing for it to be showing itself to you.
Mar 16, 2021 7:13 pm
"Well that's not a creepy looking malnourished turkey or a buzzard so that's a good sign right? lets pack up the prisoners and investigate before this play sinks or something."
Mar 16, 2021 8:34 pm
OOC:
Bob, how would you feel about an Augment spell with the Swift adder+1 PP, and a narrative effect of magnifying Bruv's voice?

What would the Difficulty be for something like that?
Mar 16, 2021 8:55 pm
OOC:
Sounds awesome. So, magnified voice, but not +1 to all checks, right? Let's call it Average (PP). Hard (PPP) if you want the skill boost, too. Roll it up!
Mar 17, 2021 2:47 pm
As Bruv sees the ground softening he stands from his counter-spelling, regret flooding him for being cajoled into not taking more action to wake and prepare the villagers, and he looks to anyone who will listen and help, with wide eyes, "Let's get da townfolk to da ferry! Carts, barrels, crates, have 'em gadder anyting at will float..."

Bruv remembers what he found in the waters of the swamp. Or rather what found him....

Then he tries to gather primal energies into his body.
OOC:
Wowza...
And then he takes off toward the village relatively unimpeded by the changing terrain and he bellows, his voice resounding like thunder, "WAAAKE!! FIRRRE!! AWAKE BUZZARDS FORD!"

Rolls

Primal, Augment spell+

6 Success, 4 Advantage, 4 Threat

Total: 6 Success

Mar 17, 2021 2:59 pm
OOC:
Wasn't the dove somehow related to the Goddess they thought they were worshipping? Maybe this was from another game ...
"The village is going to be consumed by the swamp?" Nekurr say as he jumps trying to find solid ground.
OOC:
Your character reverts to their normal form after eight hours... Not yet right?
Mar 17, 2021 3:57 pm
OOC:
Yep which is why Tronus made his comment about not being a creepy skinny turkey or buzzard which is very different looking from a dove.
"I think it's more likely what's in the swamp is now aware of the villagers that they may now consume." Tronus attempts to correct.

"You lot come with me if you don't want to drown. The quicker ones of us can go to the village the slower can hold up sitting on the roof of that building once we investigate... White dove in this shite hole is very noticeable so hopefully it's a sign." Tronus adds poking prisoners still alive towards the house.
OOC:
What happened to big man little voice?
Mar 17, 2021 5:34 pm
Bruv's voice booms across the town, shattering the silence of the night before. As the Orc moves back through the old house and onto the street out front—now mired in mud—he finds that several villagers have already stumbled, groggy, from their homes. By the time he reaches the town square, he's attracted the attention of at least a couple of familiar faces, including the gnome healer, Erfan Eswyse, and the gruff farmer, Bressel Galbernost. "What in the name of Nature's Lady is going on?" the Gnome asks the boom-voiced Orc.

Meanwhile, Tronus sees the encroaching swampland and realizes that the prisoners are in danger of being drowned, eaten by crocodiles, or worse if he doesn't act. As he attempts to rouse the sleeping Night Creepers, he realizes that one of them, Rupert Wayland, is unmoving. Checking more closely reveals that the man has died... The other issue is that the decrepit house is not exactly in top shape, so putting a bunch of people on top of it may cause the roof to collapse. And there's the matter of the caged witch, Anzila. How to move her without letting her out of the cage she's in?
OOC:
So, first, yes, Nekurr is still a were-cat. He's been one for maybe 2 hours? I'm happy to allow a Discipline check to change back, if you want, though. Say, Daunting (PPPP)? The difficulty would go down every 2 hours by another P.

Bruv is welcome to make a Leadership check (or another social skill if you can make a case) on one of your semi-friendly folks if you want to enlist their help in rallying the town to take high ground, gather carts and boats, etc. They'll presumably start doing so anyway, but you can speed the process up with a check: RR vs. either target. 2 boosts, as it's quite evident by now that something is amiss.
Mar 18, 2021 9:06 am
OOC:
I think the discipline check is a talent on its own so were-cat it is :D
Nekurr will try to grab Anzila and the Skeeter and take them, or drag them, with him as he follows Bruv
Mar 18, 2021 11:35 am
With Nekurr and Bruv dealing with people Tronus opts to find out about the bird's perch before it's underwater.
