Scene 2 - The Averndale Adventurers' Guild

Jul 14, 2022 2:59 am
[Day 2]

It is not the sun’s rise over the horizon that starts the day; for many hours the sky will merely glow blue, leaving the city in dim light. By the time the adventurers are awakened, many workers move in the streets. As laborers of many varieties set out in teams for their long shifts, bosses mount up on horses, and lord over them much like a rancher over cattle.

You each are awakened by whatever means you planned, and have time to get ready.

Traversing the city was simple enough. The Mayor’s Manor sits above the city, carved into the cliffside that was cut out to form Fort Avern. In order to get there, citizens must pass through the inner wall of Averndale, through the fort, and out a second gate that controls access to the hillside. Approaching the fortress gate you are waved forward and your destination, and person, checked. As long as no one has an obvious weapon or is asking strange the Soldiers guarding the gate, which are different from the City Watch, will allow you through.

Ushered through the fort the party sees a series of water-powered lifts that are used to ascend and descend the cliff. A man there is waiting for you and tells you he will guide you the rest of the way, and after an elevator ride and a stroll down and beautiful and luxuriously manicured roadway and garden-side, the party will reach the Mayor’s Manor as the first rays of the sun reach over the eastern mountain range. The lovely gardens and singing birds contrast starkly with the dower-looking, overworked servants.

Before long you are in the office of the Mayor of the City of Averndale. He is introduced by his attendant as, "Lord Cicero Mond the Fourth, Mayor of Averndale." The Mayor sits nearly completely still behind an expensive desk, taking you in with his light blue eyes. He breathes in, and waves the butler over. "Nesmond, use the guest perfume." The man steps deftly over to a tray of flowers and sprinkles a fragrant oil of them before placing them between you and the Mayor.

"Interesting collection you are… very well. As most of you are new to Averndale, I will say this plainly. We are not a vacation spot… we are an essential industrial epicenter and I will not tolerate anything interfering with its smooth operation. As such, you adventurers are here to work… Welcome to the newest chapter of the kingdom’s illustrious Adventurer’s Guild. Take pride, in being among the first to join our Guild. You will be the foundation of a more prosperous future."

He pauses for you to take it all in.
Jul 14, 2022 3:12 am
Jasper takes all of that is said in and really doesn't seem to faze him really. He continues to wait and see what more the mayor has to say. Seems he is about to offer possibly something. Jasper doesn't plan to say anything that might affect such.
Jul 14, 2022 5:44 am
Sadur is overwhelmed by the rich interior and confused by pompous monologue. He looks confused until Mayor mentions Adventurer’s Guild and "join our Guild". Sadur makes an ugly smile and nods intensively.
Jul 14, 2022 2:05 pm
Leons body language suggests boredom, the kind of boredom a noble would express when being bothered by boring things. He otherwise remains "Polite" and allows the mayor to continue.
Jul 14, 2022 7:12 pm
The response of silence was exactly what the Mayor hoped to hear. To him, it was acceptance and affirmation in one beautiful lack of sound. The smallest edge of his smile came out, and the Lord leaned back to give them all a second look. "Excellent. If we all understand then I will not insult your intelligence with further platitudes. There are many things that need doing in Averndale, but something has come up that requires specialists."

The Mayor explains the mission. " The Mining Guild reports they have a missing miner and strange sounds in the coal mine inside the walls. This mine has been secured for hundreds of years, so now we need to reassure the citizens that everything is fine... sort this out and I'll have something more substantial for you."

The Mayor motions the Bulter Nesmond to bring the contracts and sets them out in from of the adventurers. "Sign these and everything will be official." The contracts are for the Averndale Adventurers' Guild, and details 'salvage rights' of 40% to the city, and give you permission to keep your weapons and armor in town.
Jul 14, 2022 7:44 pm
Leon takes a moment to review the document. How long is the contract good for and if there is a definition of "Salvage". Are there any other requirement to be part of this Adventures Guild other than a signature and approval of the mayor? For instance, dues? Leon is okay with contracts as long as they are not predatory.

Leon finishing his perusal, look up at the mayor, trying to get a feel for the guy, does he give off any vibes of "Yes….sign it and your mine!" or "It’s a standard doc everyone signs it and I the most grand lord mayor find it to fair" (Insight)
Jul 14, 2022 8:16 pm
He IS using this as means to control you, but that is not unexpected. You are agreeing to play by his rule rather than be freelancing fools-for-hire or murder-hobos.

The document does not seem to enforce anything strange upon the party, separate from the King's Law, it outlines the authority being granted and its limits. The document is pretty standard for the Kingdom, as is the 40% cut to the City. Without it recovered treasures brought in by adventurers might as well be stolen goods, in the sight of merchants and lords. This will allow you to sell items in town, and carry your weapons without harassment by the City Watch. The military has authority over the fort, and your permits are limited by their authority.

"Salvage" is all coin and loot, anything you find out in the region since it all technically belongs to the Lord.
Jul 14, 2022 8:49 pm
Leon gives the Lord Mayor a final look and puts quill to parchment, "At your service," Says Leon with a bow.

"If I may ask a small favor? I am sure you have been informed that I am a physicker. Shortly after arriving in the kingdom I was beset upon by ruffians who found my healers bag an entertainment. If generoristy permits, and your lordship finds it in order would it be possible to procure a replacment? Should we encounter any injured miners it would be most invaluable."
Jul 15, 2022 1:11 am
"Your side professions do not interest me at this time." That's a No.
Jul 15, 2022 2:13 am
Leon concedes without protest, he does however take the opportunity to observe Nesmond’s reaction (Insight) to his Lords terse denial of a simple humanitarian request.
OOC:
Leon is trying to determine if Nesmond is in agreement with his Lords denial for healing supplies. Supplies that would be used to help a citizen miner.
Jul 15, 2022 6:36 am
Sadur double check if it is indeed that he is "honored to leave his signature on that paper" and asks Bulter Nesmond to show exactly were to sign and does so without ever reading the thing.
Huh, where's that mine? And what if we discover it is NOT fine? he recalls drunk miner talking about killed people, but can't recall details. And the miner was drunk anyways. Still what if they face an undead ...

But Sadur isn't really looking for Mayor to answer the question. He is just thinking aloud. He accepted the job and is willing to start it as soon as possible, right after he reclaims his weapons.
Jul 15, 2022 7:36 am
Jasper reads the document and then signs. "What do we get to indicate that we are allowed to possess weapons? Surely those there will not take our word for it."
Jul 16, 2022 12:31 am
Nesmond doesn't seem to have opinions, he stands as still as he can, waiting for his master's command. He would have no authority to dispense funds.

Pointing to the line where Sadur may leave his mark, Nesmond offers the quill and shows how the Half-orc may just leave an X for his signature. The Mayor raises an eyebrow at the remark from the largest of the supposed adventurers. He measures his response, his volume not rising loud as he might with a less intimidating sort.
"... Then, you fix it."

To Jasper's question, he nods. "Carry my seal with you. By the end of the day the Watch Captains and the Fort Commander will be made aware of you're positions." You each will be given a wooden hand-size plack with the Seal of the Mayor showing a position of limited authority.

[Receive: Mayor's Seal (weightless and pocketsized)]
Jul 16, 2022 2:54 am
Xarakas read the contract and just like the rest of the group he signs it. The content seemed somewhat fair although he thought 40% of their 'salvage' was a bit exagerated.

"So I assume our next step is to recover our equipment and then head to those mines. Let's waste no nore time

The tiefling gives an ellaborate bow and turns to leave before realizing it might be considered impolite thus returning back to face the mayor and add with a warm smile "Unless our new guild leader has more information on what to expect in there?"

Indeed, Xarakas had it right. Seems the Mayor has given you everything he thinks you need. You know where to go and solve the issue of the mine, presumably so they can reopen it and get back to work. The Watch-House where you can pick up your gear, is on the way. Now that everyone has signed and has received a Seal.

"Very good. Now, excuse me I am very busy as tomorrow is Market Day."
OOC:
Doing anything else before you head to the mission?

Full sunlight has finally reached the valley as you emerge from the manor house. The birds sing, the insects swoop and buzz about and while descending from the cliffside your get the first good look at the old city. Averndale has seen better days, but in its decline, the remaining residents hold fast to life and strive for success. Hope and greed may clash at times, but here in this remote region, there is plenty of room for growth and change, and people who have the drive to rebuild its glory.

At the Watchmens’ House, your weapons returned. The only thing that was not returned was the articles of purple from Xarakas. The daytime Watch Captain hands them over and offers her genuine thanks for coming to Averndale. Pointing you off in the right direction, the party heads to the mining entrances, on the Northeast side of town.
OOC:
you have all your gear unless otherwise stated
[Location: Coal Mines of Averndale; Time: Morning]

The Mine Foreman is waiting there for you. A pale man with dark hair and eyes, the Foreman guides you to the entrance and down into the mine, handing you each a candle-lantern to use for light if desired.

"The first thing to know is Contain Your Flame. We do our best to keep sites clean but coaldust gets everywhere, and the last thing any of us need is a fire down there…. Okay so here is the entrance to Shaft number 7." He stops at a junction in the mine and points passed two soldiers standing guard to make sure no one else went down that shaft until the matter of their missing miner was investigated. "... We searched for our man yesterday morning and only found his lunch-box. We have not seen any sign of a collapse. Man’s name is Darol… is there anything else I can tell you to help?"
Jul 21, 2022 1:05 am
"Do you have a physical description of the man we are looking for? Also in which section of the mine was he working? I assume there are many galeries below." Xarakas asks the foreman while taking the lantern although he keeps it unlit for now.
Jul 21, 2022 2:44 pm
He is two days without food and water? What are we even waiting for? Sadur boldly runs toward entrance, but stops. No, he don't return for the candle-lantern. He only checks his waterskin and add, talking mostly to himself (as you may have seen him doing quite often): Just one man, this should be enough and off he goes into the entrance.
Only once in the darkness of the shaft he slows down. Hmm, I need to wait others. Who know how will the man react seeing a half orc in the darkness...
Jul 21, 2022 3:16 pm
"Any other hazards we should know about?" Says Leon, "How about a map?"
Jul 21, 2022 5:08 pm
Jasper says as he starts to pursue Sadur, "Its a mine." He keeps his candle-lantern handy and reinforces it with a light cantrip. He has that and his trusty quarterstaff handy.
Jul 21, 2022 7:07 pm
"He is a human, blonde hair, brown eyes, about yay tall. Should be in overalls and had his own lantern. Good man… good miner. He was scheduled only for Shaft 7, there are a few forks however they should not link to any other tunnels. It is a stable shaft, just don’t go breaking the posts."
OOC:
no map, and he thinks fire and collapse are the real dangers of the mines... nothing else he knows of
Jul 22, 2022 12:21 am
"We will do what we can. Well everyone let find this guy, without water he doesn't have much time."
Jul 22, 2022 2:08 pm
OOC:
Jasper has Light cantrip, does anyone take a lit lantern?
With the gloom ahead your remaining guide, the Foreman and the soldiers watched with slight trepidation, as the adventurers moved down the slope into Shaft 7. The main tunnel has several shallow branching tunnels that are easily checked and cleared. The descent was too difficult to retain a sense of measurement and the sounds of the rest of the active miners above had become a murmuring before falling away entirely, leaving the party in a claustrophobic silence.

As the main shaft reaches a markedly sharper slope, the party first sees a lunchbox set on a short and level cut in the wall, where a miner's lunchbox sits, knocked over and emptied of its contents. You all hear a sound.

OOC:
1 is enough for me
The sound is like something metal tapping, or scratching, faintly against a stone. It was only a moment of silence that you heard it at all, and then it stops.

Sixty feet ahead of you there is a sharp incline with a ten-foot ladder there for use and seemed like the obvious path. However, with Jasper’s superior light source as aid, the mage and some others perhaps, notice a gap in the rock above them as they walked. It is just out of reach and is hard to see unless you stop in one spot to look.
Jul 22, 2022 4:56 pm
OOC:
Ups. Rolled perception before saw DM's comment 1 is enough.
Sadur moves forward to check the lunchbox, ignoring anything else for now. He remember human mentioned lunchbox... That's basically all he remembers :)

Jul 22, 2022 10:28 pm
Leon takes out a hammer and begins to hit it against a stone,

"Maybe that tapping was a call for help, Im going to see if I can get a response"

Leon listens carfully for return taps.
Jul 23, 2022 2:37 am
OOC:
Jasper has spotted a crawlspace above you, in the tunnel. Large enough for Sadur to squeeze through if you can get up there. It seem suspicious because no miner would have dug there.
Jul 23, 2022 4:07 am
Jasper motions to the crawlspace above, Perhaps something might have taken the miner up there?
Jul 23, 2022 5:32 am
Let's go back ask for some ladders. Miners should have plenty of them, shouldn't they?
OOC:
By the way, how high is it? I expected tunnel to be barely human-sized
[ +- ] tunnel
Please let me know if it seems reasonable that a ladder would be required/sufficient. Maybe it is enough to simply do a high jump? 5e Jump calculator suggests with running start Sadur can do high jump to reach up and grab something 15 feet off the ground, would that be enough?

OOC:
The tunnel is not square, but is around 8 feet tall. The crawlspace is around 5 feet space

I described a 10-foot ladder placed down the tunnel around 60 feet from you.

You may choose to climb or use a tool...
roll Athletics or Str, or get a tool to use.

We passed a ladder. Lets get it. Much easier than climbing up there. Jasper moves off to get the ladder.

"No one should be doing anything alone down here, wait up!"

Leon follows Jasper and helps him bring the ladder back

Orobu sent a note to GeneralET
Jasper and Leon return with the light and the ladder and set it up easily enough, but before you decide who is going first the group all here the sound again, and clank or hollow metal echoing out from the crawlspace.
OOC:
It'll be single file through the small tunnel. What order are you in?
Jul 24, 2022 5:56 am
Ah, you think that ladder is free to take? Right. Sadur is visibly surprised, but only for a short moment. Once ladders are set he is ready to go.
OOC:
Sadur would let others decide the order, he actually see Jasper as a leader right now and expect Japer to give him orders. Not just because Jasper was the one to spot hole, but because being lumberjack he respects the carpenter.
Jul 24, 2022 6:37 am
Jasper puts out notion of going in, "Who should be going first and next as I really don't see a lot of space." It is obvious he wants to check out the tunnel.
Jul 24, 2022 12:22 pm
Leon take 2nd position
Jul 24, 2022 2:06 pm
""Be careful in there I'm no expert but this tunnel doesn't seems to have been made by pick axes..." Xarakas points torward what looks to be acidic etches.
"I'll go with Sadur"
Jul 24, 2022 2:41 pm
OOC:

Not particularly important, but would enjoy to visualise. Is it another but smaller tunnel we will get into when crawl through the crawlspace? Does it go on to of the main tunnel or is it orthogonal making a t-shape? Are we able to walk or we will be crawling through that smaller tunnel?

I suggest Sadur goes first he is bold enough to do that.
Did you also hear that sound? Can it collapse? Should we hurry?
Sadur picks a javelin and poke etches pointed out by Xarakas, climbing up the ladder to better reach them.
OOC:
Is it solid? Does it produce similar sound on poking by javelin's with steel tip?

Jul 24, 2022 9:48 pm
The crawlspace looks solid and is cleared of rumble. You can see down the tunnel about 30 feet, opening into some sort of chamber.
OOC:
So... Sadur, then Leon, then Xarakas, then Jasper?
Jul 25, 2022 12:47 am
The silence of the otherwise still mineshaft echoes back your own shuffling footsteps as one by one you climb the ladder and crawl into the smaller tunnel. The air changes immediately, a muffled heat and an odor that is hard to place and not altogether unpleasant, grow into perception as you move forward toward the chamber.

Sadur in front sees it first. The miner is lying on the floor of the chamber on the fall side about 15 feet from him. The half-orc's darkvision lacks color, but allows him to the darkness as if but the shadows, where the obscured light does not shine, while Leon's vision is limited by the range of the light behind them.

Jasper calls forward, Is there any way forward there or is this a dead end and hopefully the miner isn't.
Jul 25, 2022 3:03 pm
OOC:
Yes the light push that far, but is blocked by the three people, making more shadows, and then by the edges of the opening because light doesn't curl around corners, leaving darkness. The chamber is larger than the mouth of the tunnel. Is that clearer?
Jul 25, 2022 3:19 pm
OOC:
did leon spot anything?
Jul 25, 2022 3:31 pm
Orobu says:
OOC:
The chamber is larger than the mouth of the tunnel. Is that clearer?
Yes. Thanks. Sadur, not spotting anything in there will certainly move to grab the prone man and carry him back out to the larger tunnel, hoping that the rest of the team will give him way.
Jul 25, 2022 3:33 pm
Sadur moves forward to collect the man, opening the view a little more for Leon. There seemed to be enough room for them to turn about if they desired, but the corners of the tunnel would need to be checked to see if it really was a dead end.

Before that, the miner attempts to stir again, weakly shaking and clanking the metal thermos against the stone, a pathetic flailing that seemed to be frantic as the half-orc sees the abject fear in the man's eyes. He was pale and his lips chapped, his clothes and skin rolled in dirt and dust of coal.

[Leon passed with13]
In the front, whether entering or waiting at the entrance, Leon hears it before he sees it, and the movement of something that was pressed against the rock above them, hiding, but is provoked as the half-orc approaches the miner.

All others are caught by surprise as an insectoid creature of large size scurries down the wall towards Sadur, unfolding an array of mouthparts and forelimbs to grab at the intruders.

"No way that bug, even a giant one, could survive that beat down!" Thinks Leon as he disengages, making his way to the miner.
Jul 26, 2022 1:25 pm
Sure enough, the creature retracted in pain under the contact of the firebolt, and with the swing of Sadur's mighty ax the creature is bisected, spraying its innards out before slumping to the floor. You remain uninjured, though Leon and Sadur both are a bit messy with bug guts. As you recover and take stock, the miner seems to pass out in relief.

Leon brings a light over the miner, pausing at the unusual bruising around his face.

"Say ahhhh."

Facial bruising could indicate other less obvious problems. Broken teeth, facial bones, or swelling of the tongue, or potential brain injury. The miner’s ability to comply and thorough examination with an interview should reveal more about the nature of the injuries and possible course of treatment

There is some abnormal wearing of the teeth, and while the trauma in the mouth is minor it is significantly concerning. Upon further inspection of the patient, you find a mass in the abdomen that could indicate a blockage in the intestine. You might consider the mundane reasons worth checking first, until you feel the mass wriggle beneath your palpation. This man was kept alive for use as an incubator.

The chamber here is closed off, but there is a collapsed tunnel that was filled with loose dirt and stones that was likely where the bug came from initially. These species will be a problem, regardless of what the Mayor would want.
Jul 26, 2022 3:19 pm
Leons eyes widen and he jerks back reflexively, "We need to get this man out of here now if he’s to have a chance! That insect is using him as a host for its maggot."

"Stay alert and someone grab a piece of that thing on the way out, we might need a sample to identify exactly what we are dealing with"

Jasper not to great with the situation but is keeping calm and collective. Nothing here really bothers him a lot. His knowledge medicine is rather limited and not of any use here. Obviously, his carpenter skills don't seem to matter much. Just keeping the light going seems to be best.

After checking the area to remove the lost miner and down the ladder, returning to the shaft. He remains deadweight yet easy enough to move, since he does not have anything broken or bleeding. Returning to the surface the guards scurry to action getting the path out of the mine cleared and a stretcher called from a nearby office.

As the workmen take the miner, the nighttime Watch Captain step forward to speak with you, smiling and gesturing with awe. "You have done well! We were certain he was buried or fallen down a crevasse further in. The Mayor will be pleased, he is eager to get the shaft back open… isn’t that right Foreman?"

The Foreman nods exhaustedly. "Yes but the Commander has set his foot down… Adventurers, what happened, is the mine save fore workers?"

Jasper takes the lead in the conversation, "We have only done what the Mayor requested. Now should you want us to check the mine for more possible problems then we need to talk to the Mayor about such. I should hope you understand."
Jul 27, 2022 11:17 am
"The safety of the mine is undetermined," Interjects Leon "What we know for sure is that Darol was attacked by some sort of insect creature and is going to need immediate medical attention if there is to be any chance of saving him. If he has a family, you should inform them."

Leon leads the foreman over to Darol and puts his hand on his belly, "We need to get this out of him, anything you can tell me about what we might have seen will be helpful"

Leon gives a description of the insect, the acid etched tunnel and his diagnosis of Darol.
Jul 27, 2022 2:00 pm
We did not check whole mine. Our task were to make sure it is safe. Let's go back in to check the rest of it.
Jul 27, 2022 3:21 pm
Leon nods in agreement, "Yes Sadur I agree, but let’s take a minute to see if the foreman here can give us any more information based what we have already discovered. You took a pretty hard hit down there by the way. How are you feeling?
Jul 27, 2022 6:18 pm
OOC:
I don't think Sadur took any damage.
The Foreman is focused upon his man, "I am not sure off hand, we have some nasty native beasties, but I know someone who might be able to identify it. We will take him to the Temple, it is close and the Priestess can assist but we’ll need to call the Doctor... maybe someone can find Doctor Leam?" They start to move, taking Darol with them on the stretcher.

Your answers seem to displease the Watch-Captian, stating coldly, "If you are unsure the mine is safe, then the job is not completed."
Jul 27, 2022 6:37 pm
Well I guess we don't need to bother the Mayor with minor details and we will be getting back in there checking. as he notes that the miner is by looks in good hands.
Jul 27, 2022 6:48 pm
"Sorry Sadur, I misspoke, there is just so much on my mind I simply lost track for moment, I see you are quite well."

"My friends there is no need to rush back into the mine. It’s not going anywhere and I did not recall the mayor offering a bonus for time. Take this short reprieve and use it to plan. A mission without planning is a doomed mission"

"Sir, I am a certified Physicker and I can help with Darol. In lieu of a full medical suite, the assistance of clerics will increase his odds significantly."

Jasper, Sadur, and Xarakas take the next hour slowly walking the mine, searching for more holes or other possible signs of more insects. This mine is relatively simple, and by the time you reach the end of the last branch, you can be reasonably sure that you have not seen other disturbances in this area. Your knowledge regarding the creature or its burrowing abilities is limited, but you see no other bugs or holes and are unaware of any other missing miners. As you return to the number seven entrance, you'll note the Watch-Captain has left a guard in his place.

Leon explains,
This man was attacked by some sort of an insect that is using him as a host for its maggot or maggots. If we can purge the maggot, I would expect a full recovery. However, if we cannot his death will be agonizing being consumed from the inside out.

Since we don’t have any idea on the gestation period, I can’t say for sure how much time he has. What I do know it that he has been gone for 2 days and already you can feel the things inside him. At this rate I would give him another 2 days at most, but in all honesty, it could be at any time. There is just so much we do not know.

There are a couple ways we can handle this. With the right antiparasitic herbs I may be able to make something that when combined with a simple laxative will purge the maggot. The key word here is the RIGHT herbs. I don’t know what we are dealing with and would have to make an educated guess.

The second option would be surgery. Given his already weakened state though, that just might kill him, but I still think that is his best chance.

Do you have an herbalist? We would first need to prepare a strong sedative. Like a calming tea but much more potent. The preparation will have to be just right, based on his weight and constitution. If it is not strong enough Davon will suffer needlessly and make the surgery even more difficult, too strong and it could stop his heart or breathing. With any luck the tea will also sedate the maggot inside. For this type of surgery, we would recommend you use a concentrated tincture of XYZ, that usually does the trick. If you have the herbs, I can help you with the preparation.

Once Davon is sedated, I will begin the operation. I will need your assistance to repair any damage that we come across. Bleeding is my biggest concern. With deep surgery there is an increased risk of nicking a vital vessel or organ. Normally we keep a strong healing draught at hand along with swabs. If there is an errant nick a quick dip and swab is all that is needed to affect a repair We call that a "DS". If I call for a DS you will know what I mean. For much more serious trauma, we prefer to have cleric on standby as well.

Once we are inside, I will need extra hands to hold open the wound so that I can determine exactly where the maggot gestates. I will remove it as quickly as possible, then begin closing up Davon. I will need your help there as well. As weak as he is, the less trauma he is left with the better. Use your blessing to knit the major wounds and I will stitch the rest. We will have to wary of infection. That kills more men than arrows. We will monitor his progress, watch for fever or any other changes.

Post operative care should be fairly straight forward. I recommend rest and clear broth for the next few days along with a strong parasitic purgative such as wyrmwood.

One other thing, I am without my full medical kit, unfortunately it was lost on my journey here. If you are able to procure XYZ, along with the sharpest knife or razor you can find I should be able to perform.

Sadur can find the Foreman who looks pleased to see the Half-orc and his companions. "Thank you for rescuing Darol. We'll pull that damned thing down and try to figure out if this is something more to worry about. If you don't see any other sign of digging, there's nothing for it. We may have to hire more guards, and that's going to increase overhead." He seems to see this as just another hazard in a dangerous business. "You caught it before a clutch was hatched. That thing sounds pretty nasty though." The Foreman glances to the Watchman who was standing by idly, bored and waiting for the party to just tell him that they were done. The foreman pats Sadur on the shoulder. "... Tell you what. Come and have a drink with me after the Bells, I'll buy you a round." He excuses himself and gets back to work.

The Watchman waits impatiently and speaks up when the Foreman leaves. "So... are you done? You should return to the Mayor quickly, said the Captain."

----

The necessary medical supplies are brought as quickly as possible, but with a full kit your task is made harder, as it is usually the doctor with certain specific tools like forceps and a scalpel, but at this point it is too late to go back and clamps and a small sharp knife must do. With practiced hands, the Matron went about her side of the work, watching Leon carefully and responding accordingly. She was an herbalist and possessed some medical training, and was a large help, along with a small team of acolytes who were there just to pass off clean water and cloth, and fetch components. You located the larva in the intestines a few feet below the stomach. A putrid slime has backfilled into his stomach and is slowly rotting as the mass has stopped his digestive track and he was constipated as well as dehydrated. He will have a long road to recovery after this, but first thing first.

Your medical training was not as fraudulent as your accreditation, and you find the best method of removing the larva, which had grown too large to be ejected from his throat. Surgery was what was needed. Darol was sedated into unconsciousness with a strong alcohol tincture and ground herbs and held down by acolytes. The Matron Priestess is stoic in her tasks, only scrunching her nose at the size of the mass in his intestines is revealed. Leon is able to clamp off and cut the intestines in two places and between his expert stitching and several castings of Cure Wounds from the Matron, the portion is removed and the intestine reattached.

Keeping focused, the excised portion and the incased larva is dropped into a metal bucket and clamped shut with a lid. They would deal with that later, first the exit plan. While Leon stitches the layers of tissue closed, an acolyte begins to position the throat with a stomach pump. It is not a common device, but one that will make clearing his stomach possible without further trauma. Leon might have started to wonder where the device had come from when he would notice a gentleman in a brown cloak and hat, standing just inside the room, watching with interest.

The Matron Priestess, finishing her part and stepping out of the way, assist Leon by taking his gloves once he stepped away from the patient, speaking softly to relay some information. "That is Doctor Leam... I think you've impressed him. You have impressed me as well. Thank you Doctor." She nods and moves away to handle the post-surgery orders. The patient is stable but has a lot of healing to do. Your job here is done. It seems Doctor Leam is waiting to speak with you.
Aug 2, 2022 6:27 pm
Leon wipes his brow, thankful that Darols surgery went smoothly. The clerics were immensely helpful, especially without proper equipment.

"Matron Maria, please keep good care of that larvae, I would like a chance to examine it later."

Approaching Dr. Leam, Leon introduces himself with a handshake, "Can I assume that I have you to thank for that stomach pump? It certainly came in handy. What an unusual case wouldn’t you say? Can’t say I’ve seen anything quite like it."

Quite an awesomely gruesome creature it must have been. I hear you were also part of the band of mercenaries who downed the Beast's parent, as well? A dashing young man of many talents? Averndale should be on Its guard, I say." The Doctor laughs, seeking to jest with the Physicker. "Speaking of... would you mind? I am a bit of an entomologist. Perhaps I can better identify the species if you wouldn't mind me taking charge of the larvae. Perhaps I can come up with something more concrete about its genus or species and the possible dangers a sighting might imply."

Sadur, Jasper, and presumably Xarakas would be able to spot the Temple of the Divines once their eyes adjusted back to the daylight that greeted them upon exiting the mine. The party again moves through the city, passing through the fort to ascend the hillside and reach the Mayor's Manor. This time, however, the Mayor is outside with Marcus, the nighttime Watch-Captain, as the group approaches.

"You see there, Marcus? I told you they would not terry." The Mayor turns, motioning the Watch-Captain to be dismissed, which Marcus does with a bit of a perturbance in his expression as he walks around the party and leaves. The Mayor on the other hand smiles brightly, in a way you were likely unsure he could manage. "Heroes! You've managed to find the worker, an outcome that not many were confident in. This certainly will fix the situation to everyone's satisfaction... speaking of... ah! Commander Hanson.

A stern-faced soldier with the markings of rank walks passed the Adventurers and turns so that he might look between the Mayor and these newcomers. He nods to the Mayor and then to the Party. "Lord Mund... adventurers... I am told Darol is returned. Good. Is this a new problem in the valley?"

"The creature is dead and the mine is clear... we can reopen that shaft." The mayor answered, but the Commander was not looking at him, he was waiting for the adventurers to answer, something the Mayor seemed to recognize with muted anger. Commander Hanson looks between the party members sizing them up and seeing which one of them would answer.

Jasper is an easy mark.

"All is well. Till the next emergency. And that is what we are here for. Adventurers.
Aug 5, 2022 6:39 pm
Leon adds a bit more, hoping to satisfy everyones curiosity.

The tunnels appear to clear, although some extra security for a time may be in order. There was no clear indication on where the tunnel bug came from or if there are more. Darol the miner had to undergo major surgery to remove an larvae that was implanted by the brood mother bug. I expect a full recovery.

I have taken the initiative to allow an expert to examine the larvae. It may yet provide clues on its origin or perhaps countermeasures should we come across more. Everything is in a state of "wait and see" but I would guess everything should be okay for the moment.

Hanson has the power over this situation, for some reason or another, considering the politics of the Fortress and the Town being entwined. The Commander stares sternly, looking for signs of deception from the Adventurers, trying to smooth talk the situation. He considers but then nods towards the party. "I thank you." A moment of genuine emotion from the Fort Commander, before his face hardens back into the shrewd look of a military officer, turning that attention to the Mayor.

The Mayor however was first to speak again, his look easy-going in spite of his tense a moment before. "You see? A bug problem, nothing more. This horrid wilderness reminds us again. Nothing that the City cannot handle, and now we have some specialists. The Averndale Adventurers' Guild is just getting started, Commander. And then you will have more troops to place on the road."

The Commander for his part does not soften at the Mayor's speech, but finally relents and gives a simple nod, before turning on his heels and walking off. With nothing more to say. The Mayor beams that toothy smile again and claps his hands. "Welldone adventurers welldone. Since you are already filthy, let's get you on to that next task! I have another dirty job for you... Talk to the Works-Manager at the Guildhall. He will take you to your next job."

Aug 16, 2022 9:13 pm
"Of course, you will get paid for your labors, but now is not the time." The Mayor heads back into the house, leaving the butler, Nesmond, behind to answer any questions.

Directions were easy. You have already seen the Guildhall of Averndale sitting just outside of the old fort walls - a separate structure from the Bunkhouse that Jasper slept in last night. The building is magnificent - a stone foundations and select hand-carved lumber, a deliberate display of the combined artisans' talents. With a clerk's help, you will find the works manager in his office, who after a moment of confusion will rise and greet the party. He is happy to receive them and eager to get them to the job, prattling on about how happy he was to hear from the Mayor and how important it is that you inspect the downflow.

Leading the partying into the hillside, through a gated tunnel entrance, and down a stairwell, the party enters the underground Works. It is faint at first, but the sickly smell of sewage builds to an afoul stench, as they stop to unlock and then pass through several iron gates. You are led to the sluice gates where the flow is controlled. He turns to explain, with a smudge of some sort of salve under his nose to block the smell - holding a small container in his hand.

"I need you to find out what's been trying to crawl out from the downpipe." He points out some scratch marks on some of the ironbar door leading to the maintenance path next to the sewer channel. A little investigation might turn up that there of purposeful scratches in and around the locking mechanism. "We ignored it at first, cause they weren't getting through but the workers have been complaining about animal noises, so we put went to put out some poison, but when we sent someone to place bait and he was savaged along the arm before the beast was chased away! Nearly torn his arm off with bites! Then the pipe backed up and we can't send anyone down there until the beasties are put down. So... we really appreciate you fellars work." The man walks to the gate, pulls out an iron key, and then waits for your cue. "Just tell me when you're ready and I'll open the gate."
Aug 17, 2022 7:48 am
Sadur takes off his shirt and asks works manager to keep it for him. Don't want make it dirty and smelly, though the shirt is dirty already with the bug's blood and such.
He looks at the scratch marks on the ironbar door and thinks aloud How does the beast look like? Never mind. Does not matter.
Turns back to works manager: How did you chase it away! Light, sound, blades: what is it afraid of? Fire maybe?
Aug 17, 2022 12:43 pm
Leon scrunches up his nose in disgust and lights a torch, "This had better be worth it"
Aug 17, 2022 2:48 pm
The Works manager, let the comment slide by awkwardly and then looked at Sadur as if he had realized his mistake. "Oh yes. Their lantern was knocked into the soup and went out first and then he was attacked, so he didn't get a good look but he ran back to the gate and the other torches seemed to scare it away. I guess they don't like the light much. Teeth and claws, so maybe a feral dog... anything living down there here ought to be a nasty sort. But you have a good mile before you'll reach the river grating. We checked that on the outside already and they seemed fine."
Aug 17, 2022 6:57 pm

Jasper wishes he had something to cut the smell. And probably going to lose his lunch too or wait for smelling salve. Either way he is going to fall behind some. But at least with smelling salve he will feel better about it. He will call to Sadur, Wait up or we get split up and lost.

OOC:
Sadur will find he is a little nauseous but he can hold it back for now.
The lights behind you grow small and dim as if crushed slowly but surely by the weight of the darkness, the stench, or else the closeness of the ceiling overhead and the channel standing still, with your own light sources making the sewage appear so still that is surface looked solid and able to bare weight. This is an oppressive atmosphere, overwhelming and yet monotonous. It is easy to get distracted as you continue forward, passing a marker on the wall that measures 1/8th mile.

[seriously though, how fast are you trying to move down here?]
Aug 19, 2022 6:34 am
Sadur were running at the beginning, but the nauseous made him slow down to fast movement. He also makes sure the rest of the party could manage at his pace.
OOC:
Anyone want to make it slower?
By the measure 1/8th mile he gets bored and want to occupy himself - he use a javelin to measure the depth of the channel of sewage: is it deeper than the length of his javelin? He will keep measuring it every 100-200 foot unless the process intensifies already terrible smell.
Aug 19, 2022 12:38 pm
"Yes, please slow down, If we go to fast we might miss something...Like an ambush" Leon grumbles to himself silently but otherwise keeps alert frequently checking his back.
Aug 19, 2022 6:32 pm
Jasper feeling slightly blue, We can take our time. There is no hurry despite how bad this place is. He agrees with Leon.
Aug 19, 2022 6:44 pm
Seeing Jasper not feeling well, Leon gives a bit of advice "Breathe through your mouth, It wont smell as bad"
Aug 19, 2022 6:50 pm
So we harry no more. Fine. I will get used to smell, hope smell do not get used to me.
Aug 19, 2022 7:50 pm
Good news Sadur... Poking the sewage does not make the smell worse. It does however make your javelin gross as all hell and drips with rancid juices, as well as proving that the surface was not solid at all. The small ripples bob the filth as you prod the feculent soup.

Slowing to a steady march [full move?], the echoes finally settle, allowing the party to hear more than the fiction from their own gear. The steps certain do echo far. Continuing forward there is a slow curve in the tunnel, when as you are passing, very suddenly you find that you have reached a dam in the channel, and the reason the sewage does not flow down.

It is impossible to tell of what it was constructed, due to the dam leaking and overflowing, but it was constructed, not just something jammed or clogged by chance.
Aug 19, 2022 8:09 pm
Wonder what is beyond that is being protected by this dam. Jasper says as he looks on.
Aug 19, 2022 8:15 pm
Torch in one hand and Rapier in the other, Leon takes a closer look at the structure "You know, beavers make their homes inside of dams, be ready!"
Aug 20, 2022 1:38 pm
Xarakas look at the dam with curiousity. "What kind of creature would find it pleasant to live here, must have been out of necessity... Anyway we got a job to do" he pause for a second thinking. "We best try to fight them here. If we break the dam we will be flooded in shit and unable to move properly. Let's try to lure them out".

The tiefling grabs a torch in one hand which light itself up. Then the floor start to shake.
OOC:

Using prestidigitation for the torch and Thaumaturgy for tremor the ground assuming. Range is 30ft so I assume we are close enough of the damn. If not ignore Thaumaturgy.

OOC:
GeneralET confused me. Could a DM confirm that dam leaking and overflowing in the direction we were going, meaning that if we destroy dam the stinky stuff will go away.
Sadur thinks aloud as always The thing build dam, just like beaver. It means it live there. Destroy the home to get it out. Better than jump in the stinky. he looks at the party at tell them: Sadur break dam. Get ready for creature may not like it. he takes his already stinky javelin and ties a rope to it
OOC:
Use: Rope, Hempen (50 feet)
Tie it to a javelin
I believe it is obvious what he is planning: Will throw javelin into the dam and try to get it pull it back and repeat until it stuck into the dam. Then pull as hard as he can and ask the other 3 to help - rope is long enough for everyone to pull
Aug 20, 2022 8:10 pm
OOC:
the tremor is harmless. The idea was just to shake the dam so the creature get out, without destoying it ...yet
Aug 20, 2022 8:25 pm
We have to travel beyond that dam. Lets not break it yet. We can do this later. Lets move on.
Aug 20, 2022 9:57 pm
Sadur stop before he end tieing rope. Shrug shoulders. It was not me who suggested to hurry. and moves forward through the tunnel. Hoping for better smell beyond the dam.
Aug 22, 2022 1:43 pm
OOC:
Yes, the direction of flow is mostly blocked, but there is some sewage still spilling slowly, but not fast enough to empty the channel. Breaking the dam is an option, but it will take a bit of time and at least one person going to need to get down to properly attack a rope, as the javelin will not attach well enough when just thrown.
The spell creates a rumbling through the tunnel, the sound loud and beyond ignoring for any nearby, rippling the sewage causing some additional spillage. Afterward only the disparate echo, and then nothing.
OOC:
Group decision?
Destroy the damn and free the sewage down the channel, or continue forward?
Aug 22, 2022 2:51 pm
"Im all for moving on" says Leon, "We can deal with the dam later. I just want to get a closer look at it just to make sure nothing is inside."

Leon brings his torch light closer and pokes his rapier through some of the gaps in the dam.
Aug 22, 2022 3:02 pm
OOC:
Sadur is no a decision maker. he is a doer. Jasper said let's move on and Sadur is on his way not waiting for second opinion :)
Besides he were the only one to fail con save for smell, so he is least willing to deal with the stinky dam right now

Fair enough! New Con saves, please. Salve is still effective but is losing its potency, Advantage for Jasper and Leon.

Going forward, I prefer a group effort on any investigation or tracking attempts, etc. If you have proficiency you can help each other to gain Advantage, but we aren't going to dogpile skills, cool? So any checks just say who is taking the action, and I will roll. Such as this part ahead.
Beyond the dam the pathway has been smeared with dried filth. While the channel below is mostly emptied, it is unfortunate that it does nothing to disperse the smell, as passed this point the sewage has seemed to spill onto the walkway. It does however show signs of passage and even tracks.

[Party's Perception check successful! So you see the tracks.]

Just to double check I am reading this correct - no ability (skill) rolls by player. Only saves as required by DM. I'm cool with that approach, just want to double check, because have seen DMs who do exactly the opposite.
Sadur ignore the tracks. Grating This is not adventuring, is it? Going tube is not tracking.

Investigation or Survival? Only one person rolls, but if two or more people have the same proficiency you can have Advantage.

Little feet, long toes, and lots of scratches. The creature's, or creatures', type is not discernable but you can tell that at last some of these are standing upright. There seemed to be a concerted effort to build this dam and there has been very recent movement in and out of these scummy areas.
Aug 23, 2022 10:01 pm
Lots of little creatures were here. Kobolds might be a guess. Whatever they are, they knew what they were doing. Jasper relates his minor knowledge.
Aug 24, 2022 5:56 pm
It is then that the sound comes, as if in response to Jasper, a cry of strained anger and a scuffling of sound, footsteps with claws scratching. Something is coming, Things... Many now with horrid growling grunts. They come. In darkness they come, unimpeded.

The scratches in sprint, they first come into view in the dim-light appearing like snarling dogs, their short hair and bald patches confusing in the dark, yet as the rush-in the Giant Rats are revealed. You all are ready for them and have the presence to pick your targets as they come in. Once within the illumination of torch or spell, the paints upon them mark them as pets. Some have come along the walkway, but more come in the channel below and may try to climb up to flank your group.

Sadur skewers the first rat coming down the channel, yet more come. Jasper's spell coats the pathway down the tunnel ahead, as several rats charge towards Sadur, who stands ready. Four come straight for him, but three of them fall prone and go sliding in the Grease as the last bounds upon the backs of the others to snap at the Half-Orc. The rats below come scampering the sidewall As the other Rats lunge to attack, Leon and Xarakas take down one each, further thinning the wave of gnashing teeth. Yet many make it through, biteing and scratching at the party, and our now around and between the party with only Jasper free to move back the way they came.
OOC:
Ugh, I used the wrong die codes, but each of you we hit once.

"Good Shot! says Leon

Sighing in relief but does not otherwise pursue any of the rats. He takes a brief moment to look around for more threats before pouring some fresh water on and cleaning his wound.

"I think they know we are here, If we go in there without taking some precautions we might not make it out"
Aug 30, 2022 3:43 pm
Jasper feeling the bite he received, We need to take it slow. That way it will give us more time to react.
Aug 30, 2022 10:58 pm
It was a hell of a shot, another of the painted mutant rodent cut down, as the others flee into the deep darkness. The wet scamperings echo back until dissolving into the sounds of the tunnel, and the party is left alone... for now.
Aug 31, 2022 2:14 am
"That was some nice company we got there, rats in the sewer... pfff I'll have to work hard to make it sound heroic" At that moment he realized that during the fight the dirty water splashed over him. "That is definitely not type of things to make songs about"

Before following Sadur further down, he takes a moment to work his magic and clean his shirt.
OOC:
Using prestigitation to clean the shirt.
Aug 31, 2022 5:57 am
Sadur, crawling collects his handaxes and javelin.
Sadur want break dam and go shower. Don't want to walk around this stinky place slow. If you are against braking dam I only take shower. Drink beer. Then come back, later.
OOC:
I understand that in this world either creature don't get used to a bad smell or this is not just a bad smell but something magically making my PC feel bad and he makes an obvious conclusion that this will only become worse, so I believe it is more than logical for my PC to just leave the place. Immediately. He is all but dirty and stinky now.
Aug 31, 2022 5:42 pm
Jasper tells Sadur, If you were to break that dam the smell from that would probably be overpowering.

And he adds on, Right now we need to find out what is causing these problems.
Aug 31, 2022 5:47 pm
Leon adds, "Technically, we were not hired to clear the blockage, only to deal with what caused it. Unless there is a reason to clear it, I say leave it to the sewer workers"
Aug 31, 2022 10:32 pm
OOC:
Reminder to Xarakas, that your spell earlier seemed to give some respite.
Are you all taking a Short Rest?
Moving forward to retrieve weapons, the party spots damage in the channel ahead. The stones have been broken and moved, and the area has been built up with pieces of wooden boards from elsewhere. It is an entrance, a tunnel for creatures smaller than yourselves. There is even been an attempt to push away the muck as if a broom was used.
Sep 1, 2022 4:46 am
A short rest would be ideal as it give Jasper time to take a HD recovery and heal the damages he has. That and use arcane recovery to get the slot back that he used.
Sep 1, 2022 6:29 am
OOC:

Could you confirm please - the 5' wide walkway continues forward but on it's wall there is an entrance to a tunnel for smaller creatures ?
Just as I described earlier - Sadur will not take a short rest here in this place - I'm both afraid as a player that I will get further implications on failed con saves if we stay here as long as an hour and IC Sadur only want to get a shower back at hotel. Am I overplaying my PC personality? Please let me know if you think I'm a problem player and I will make my PC shut up and just follow whatever orders the party gives him.
Since Sadur were the only person to go gather his weapons, but others just talking about being careful I assume he is the only to damage in the channel ahead. He calls out: I see bug rat hole here. Don't think they will come out soon. I go back ask what we do with dam and the hole
Sadur turns back and not afraid to go through the tunnel back alone.
Sep 1, 2022 2:01 pm
"Right, lets head out and let them know what we know so far. Also maybe we can get some of that salve for everyone. If the rats dont kill you, the smell makes you wish they had."
Sep 1, 2022 2:14 pm

The hole is in the channel below. Sewage trying to flow past would end up draining down into that opening instead.

Since I see no objections on my roleplay I will only describe what my PC does. Sadur will not sit for an hour in the tunnel doing nothing. I don't see reason we can't split party. Sadur probablycan get back before shortrest hour is over. It was just 1/8 mile wasn't it?
Sadur has said what he had to say. He silently goes back out of tunnel. All way out.
Sep 2, 2022 3:04 pm
Backing away at first, the party walks the half-mile back to the gate where the Works-Manager is there, waiting. With trepidation, he waits until you have all gathered right to the gate before unlocking it and letting you through, with wide birth. Reapplying some salve he stands back. "Is it? ... is it, done?"
OOC:
You can exit the tunnel and have a rest out in the fresh air and reset, taking a Short Rest.

Hey, boss. We found dam. You build dam? If we destroy it will help with stinky, wouldn't it? I think smart enough idea for Sadur heh :)
There is a rat hole. Big rat. he shows the size with his arms You know how to get them out of hole? Smoke? Fire? Water? Bait? We can't get to them we can't kill them for you, I'm afraid
OOC:
Sadur would rather get back into the tunnel immediately should Works-Manager provide potion of oil or something to deal with rathole.
But looks like it has already been decided we have a SR. Let's say Sadur respects companions' decision to chill
Sep 2, 2022 6:59 pm
"... Damn it all. A hole in the tunnel?" He was working out that he'll need to do a lot of work now, where as he hoped it would be taken care of by the party and he could just go home. "We'll have to send a team after you flush out the danger. Now, if I were you fellers, I would just rip that blockage out and see if that don't handle the issue. Then I can send some fresh water down the channel and clear out some of this mess." He was not the type to choose to crawl into unknown holes, which is the other obvious route. "Flood'em out? Or just drown em, like that." The man shrugs, carefree in his callousness.
Sep 2, 2022 7:36 pm
"That stink down is gods aweful. We are going to need more of that salve of yours. Once we get a chance to tend to these bites and catch a breath of fresh air we will be heading back down."

Leon adds,

"With the right tools breaking up that blockage shouldnt be hard. Do you know where I can get a grappling hook?"
Sep 3, 2022 1:04 am
Xarakas follows the group not really caring about continuing or falling back. As the hroup get together and establish the nextbthing to do, he offers to clean everyone using his magic. At least it will get rid of some of the smell for the moment.
OOC:
Sorry for erratic posting my wite just got Covid and is not feeling so well. Have to take care of our 2 kids. Hopefully, she'll get better soon and I have a bit more free time to post
Sep 3, 2022 7:00 am
We break and return to ask to send water. That's a deal. So much of a plan could even Sadur swallow. He looks at the companions and add soon.
OOC:
So we are taking a SR, aren't we, I assume I don't need to roll as I restore minimum of 4 hp, which already put me at max hp. I just remember I've used my only hit die

Xarakas, thank you for cleaning my trousers. I did felt strange down there and fell like a cut tree. Should have been funny look at me. and he laughs.
Sep 4, 2022 1:09 am
Jasper thanks Xarakas as well for cleanup. Jasper does care too much about what has been decided. Surely there are bad points and good points to the plan. Well at least soon we can rid ourselves of the smell.
Sep 4, 2022 8:45 pm
OOC:
@GeneralET No worries. Please take care of yourselves.

HPs Before Short Rest:
Sadur, Xarakas and Leon: with the 2 temp HPs, you were only down 2 hps from your max
Jasper had 1 temp HP, and so is only down 1 hp from max

By the End of the Short Rest:
Sadur is no longer poisoned.
Sadur and Jasper are healed up to max.
Anyone/anything else?

Forgot to write that Sadur is good to go and he has not understood the benefits of the salve. It is only me as player know it give advantage on rolls. My PC thinks it is for puny humans to use not for a half-orc. Yeh I'm ready for more failed saves.

Well. A gold coin for 10 does of salve sounds like a fine deal to Jasper. He doesn't have silver coins on him.

Having taken some time to prepare, the party heads back into the entrance to the Sewer works. The Manager comes with, again, eager to flush the mess and be done with it. He didn't care what was living there. They could keep living there for all he cared, but the pipes need to flow.
OOC:
If you are all set, describe heading in passed the iron gate, "marching order", and any special actions including light sources. Then a Con save.
Sadur gains a +1 morale bonus to this save, for orciness.

The party takes the tunnel again and in time comes to see the dam ahead, you approach to inspect it and come to a stop, Sadur gets a sense of predation from the darkness ahead, while Leon picks up on the shifting of small feet. An ambush from farther into the tunnel, beyond the light of a torch or the limit of darkvision, the twang of crossbow strings and wiz of bolts.

Sadur throwing the torch forward brings dim light into range of the entrance to the hole and two kobolds scream. Sadur and Leon may close most of the distance with their move, but will be 10' short of the archers' wow shriek with abject terror and brief regret from hitting the orcish barbarian.

Xarakas runs after Sadur hoping he is not hurt too badly. "Are you OK? Do you need some help with your wounds?" And as they enter he whispers some inspiring words to Sadur "I got your back focus on whats ahead".
OOC:
Do Sadur need healing ?
Also used bardic inspiration on Sadur so you can add a d6 on an ability check, attack roll or saving throw if you need to.
Sep 14, 2022 11:43 am
OOC:
Well Sadur did lost 10 HP, but imagine he is on adrenaline at the moment and not able to asses the need of a magical healing he has never benefit of in his life. By the way big guy does not plan to crawl rat-hole. He will stop next to tunnel entrance, but I believe we are in combat turn order, so waiting for my turn
Sep 14, 2022 1:25 pm
With Sadur next to the smaller tunnel entrance, he cannot see his quarry in the hole but can hear angry chittering and strange barking and hissing calls from deeper within. They are waiting for you to follow, it seems.
OOC:
Same hole as before, where the rats came from. If you aren't going through, then its a lull in combat... I'll interject if something new happens. You have secured this side for now.

Health and Injuries - don't worry so much about metagaming if that's what it is. Xarakas can see he is injured, and Sadur can know he doesn't feel at his best
Sep 14, 2022 1:34 pm
Leon cautiously walks over to the kobold tunnel. Peeking in he takes a closer look at the entrance searching for signs of traps.
Sep 14, 2022 1:53 pm
OOC:
It is at very least an Ambush waiting from them on the other side, but Kobolds are known to employ traps as well.
Sep 14, 2022 2:28 pm
Sadur whispers yes that was one bloody shoot, I wonder where did kobolds steal crossbow bolts. Would be nice if you could stop me bleeding.
Anyhow, I'm not going into that rat-hole! Anyone volunteer to break dam, or should I take car of it?

Then he cries Little bastard! You can surrender your weapons and get free or stay there and die terrible!
Sep 14, 2022 2:37 pm
Leon takes a look at Sadurs wound before agreing with his logic "You are right, lets just break the dam. Its too risky to chase them into that hole"
Sep 14, 2022 6:05 pm
Jasper backs up so we all can get to the Dam.
Sep 14, 2022 6:45 pm
OOC:
If the general plan is to pull the dam down with a grappling hook, then It'll be a strength check with DC and effect based on how many off you are pulling. So who should pull and what should the others do. OOC plan would be good.
Sep 14, 2022 8:43 pm
Sadur picks up the torch he thrown and try to stick it to the wall to light up the exit from the tunnel. He cries other intimidating sentence or two and then silently moves back to dam together with the rest.
He is then open for ideas. His only idea is to use axe to break dam :).
OOC:
Seriously, is made of wood or what? If it is made of wood it shouldn't be a big deal for Sadur the Lumberjack to break it. But I also like the idea of using hook and do a team-work. Someone with ability to do ranged attacks should keep watching kobolds while other 3 could poll the rope
Sep 15, 2022 12:53 am

The dam shifts under the force applied, slopping out a little of the fetid water and dropping small pieces as Sadur works, yet as of the arrival of a second wave, nothing significant has broken free. As he pulls Sadur sees the pieces giving to the pressure, but they are well anchored. Thinking strictly as a matter of force, the half-orcs build was by itself less effective than the type of action a concerted effort could manage. A great splintering sound near the top weakens a matting of debris and now, as Sadur pulls, a spillage opens as the board bends.
OOC:
Making progress, just a bit more!
Sadur's call back to the party not yet responded, the echoing of noises, the scuffling, and a myriad of harsh and horrible screeches, the rest of the party could be forgiven for not hearing him. A blast of fire misses its target, being too close to his companions must have skewed Jasper's aid but, with the deft maneuvering of their rapiers Leon and Xarakas, the two rats are dispatched before managing any attack. The mangy beasts fall back into the muck.

Just then, peaking out from the Kobold hole, the scaley face of these dragon-descended assailants. They have understood what the party was doing and with spite, the first provides a covering shot at Leon while the second targets Sadur in order to stop the party's progress, before taking cover again.

Seeing the first kobold laying on his blood Xarakas feels some pity for the helpless creature remaining.
"Does someone have rope beside the one Sadur uses? Questionning the remaining one might provide valuable information on how many they are and what are their reasons for staying here"

Xarakas keep his rapier ready while waiting for a rope.
Sep 21, 2022 5:29 pm
Xarakas calls for rope, but there would not be Time. With a mighty pull, Sadur yanks out the main blockage of the damn, a large board that was wedged longways through the channel and anchored. When it breaks the weight and movement of trapped sewage was soon unleashed. The flood of sewage was coming. While everyone else was safe on the walkway, Leon was down in the channel and he will need to act fast or get caught in the rushing 'liquid'.

Sep 22, 2022 6:17 pm
Back to the iron gate, the Works Manager is not immediately there and it takes a bit of noise before the round man comes waddling around the corner. "Is it done? Mayor's been on my ass all day." The sewage on this end of the tunnel was had been reduced to dregs, and the Manager was eager to let fresher water run through.
Sep 22, 2022 6:46 pm
Leon is the first to respond,

"Yeah yeah, its done. Is cleared thanks to the big guy here. No telling if this will resolve the issue long term there. Kobolds and giant rats. We put a hurt on them and probably drowned the rest when that dam blockage cleared."
Sep 22, 2022 6:58 pm
Jasper lets Leon take this and is quite. But still adds in "We will be seeing the mayor soon."
Sep 22, 2022 7:21 pm
As Leon informs the manager Xarakas proceeds on cleaning everyone with his magic before their meeting with the mayor
Sep 23, 2022 11:20 pm
The Works-Manager hurries over to the sluice controls and lifts a runoff of relatively fresh water and begins to flood out the cleared channel. There was a lot more work to be done, but the Manager hazards a smile. "Aye boys, looks like the flow goes on! I'll send a crew to pick the refuse out and fill the hole once the damned smell clears out. I swear it's not usually this bad."

Guiding you out he has a couple of buckets of clean water were you can clean up some, but there is only so much that can be done. It will take more than a cantrip to erase stains or the smell. You need proper laundering, or a change before you will be 'clean' again, and who knows what it may take to get rid of the smell.

You head back to the Mayor, who stand at the steps to his Manor leaving his servant to pass out gold. "Before I hear grumbling, this is just a stipend. Something to help you... resupply. I am working on the proper payment for the services you have and will continue to provide for our fair city. I hope you will indulge my flare for drama and allow me to unveil it as a surprise after our busy day tomorrow. In the meantime we have one more task that should be completed posthaste. There have been wolf attacks on the homesteads to the North. The farmers are insisting there are getting bolder, so I would like you to take care of whatever mangy beast is harassing them but they start making up stories about werewolves." He rolls his eyes, enjoining his own joke.

[gain 10 gold pieces each]
Sep 24, 2022 1:00 am
Leon gives a courtley nod before responding to Mayors request,

"I enjoy a bit of drama as much as anyone, however business is business. We have proven that we are more than willing to take risks to get the job done, and in good faith we have agreed to your odd jobs with only vague assurances of compensation. If I were to visit a smith, a glassblower or even the even the painted ladies with vague promises I would be shown the door."

"Like yourself, I have a reputation to maintain. I simply cannot be known as someone that will accept a job without first knowing how I will be compensated, and you sir do not want a reputation as a stingy employer."

"Unless you can give me more of a reason than the love of dramatics, I will have to respectfully decline your offer."
Sep 24, 2022 7:11 am
Sadur silently picks the money (10gp is a lot for a lumberjack) and leaves the place before he has said anything he will regret.
Sadur goes back to the inn to take a proper shower with hot water ans soap. His shirt is clean (he pulled that off before going into the severs, remember?) but trousers are stinky. He will go to shower with his trousers as he don't have any spare clothes.
OOC:
I hope Xarakas will be around when he finishes and dry the trousers with prestidigitation. Sadur will not stay naked waiting for laundering services
Also Sadur is more than willing to help farmers regardless of payment. Just because he want to help the farmers and build up his reputation among them

Jasper takes in the money and lets Leon take care of business. Clean up is mostly on Jasper's mind. Relaxing with a drink also sounds good he tells Leon he will be in the inn. Jasper actually thinks about new clothing.

It is just passed midday.
The Mayor turns to Leon, a slightly irritated expression across his face. Cicero Mund was not a man you expected to be spoken against. For a moment he looked as though he yell, but turning his harsh blue eyes away, he instead fiddles with a bottom at his vest. When he speaks it is gentle, his arched brow relaxing. "Ah ha, yes. I suppose I am unused to having partners. Subordinates don't possess the creativity to get these jobs fully completed. Averndale is not the richest city, but neither would simple coins be of ultimate use to men such as you. I have procured a small cache of artifacts and more importantly, an ancient local map of the dwarven empires of these regions and simply waiting for them to arrive. Along with is an Explorer who ensures me that there are several hidden troves, lost to time and buried by the elements. The map will be yours." He smiles magnanimously, seeming to expect that the adventurers would find these interesting. "In the meantime, the pay for your tasks is many times the highest pay of any skilled labor, do not believe me unsympathetic, which is the reason for the stipend. It should hold you over until the Guild is established."

"A map, and treasure you say. Well, that is a pleasantry I did not expect. It certainly makes our decision to continue our arrangement much more appealing. I think you can expect us for the assignment but we will need a brief respite to clean up, and otherwise recover from the last."

With that Leon gives a slightly more respectable bow and takes his leave, joining the others

Leon shares the information that was provided to him with the group.
Sep 29, 2022 1:43 pm
Having washed his own clothes and help Sadur with his Xarakas welcome the treasure map with excitement. "Treasure hunts makes for great songs and poetries. Better than crawling in dirt filled sewers. Let's eat a bit and see what we can do about those wolves.
Sep 29, 2022 2:05 pm

Sep 29, 2022 2:24 pm
"Indeed, I will just have these laundered here, and I have a bit of shopping to do."

Leon has his clothes laundered, as has a bath drawn. He dresses in a fine set of clothes and venture into town. He is in search of either supplies to put together a healers kit or simply purchass one.

Okay Sadur is going to head out of town now?

Leon can find supplies by purchasing from a vendor or by donating at the temple. [5gp either way]

Xarakas and Jasper are going to get clothing and item at the Outfitters? Common items are available at the outfitters - anything up to 10gp outfits... more expensive clothing is custom made and will require some searching for a tailor.
The party splits, and Sadur prepares to leave the relative protection of the city walls. The Guard there shows some concern, but they do not dare stand in his way.
Sep 30, 2022 7:47 pm
Leon donates to the temple and offers his healing skills for a little while if needed.

Marked off two gold pieces of his ten received and Jasper has new traveler's clothing. The old stuff can be burnt. Jasper can advise Xarakas the better places in two to get new clothing. Not really doing anything the rest of the evening and plan to show up at the farm house in the morning.

It has been a while since Jasper (27 years old) was back in town (Gone for three years), so new clothing does match the current fads. He of course takes an effort to avoid seeing his wife, Helen (23 years old) and his boy, Jerry (4 years old).

He will take a moment or two to drop in at the Carpenter's Guild to say "HI" but doesn't spend any real time there. He does walk around in town with his quarterstaff and a dagger. His Mayor's Seal is handy.

Jasper has a Lifestyle: Modest (1gp/day) so I will mark off 1 gp to keep him current. Obviously, he needs to work more to keep the coins flowing.

Good rest is good. Jasper regains HD recover & Spell Slots with a long rest and Arcane Recovery in the morning. Jasper is already at max HP of 8.

Hmmm. With a long rest, Jasper can change his prepared spells to take out Sleep and put in Find Familiar. During the day he can spend 10gp and get the material components and cast it after long rest. He will summon an owl. And in his rest time he can study his "Book of Lure" for kicks and jollies.

He will make some new acquaintances at the shop where he gets is arcane supplies at. He probably has never been there before. Never was a need for such when he lived there but now, he does have to keep supplied.

So, in the morning he can change out his Find Familiar and put back in Sleep. And should have all his HD recover, spell slots, and arcane recovery back at full. And have an owl familiar. Does that work fine?

Sadur

Spending the day on the road you are treated to warm weather you arrive in the early evening, with some time before sundown. Coming over a wooded hillside, the Half-orc sees the fields of the farming homestead. Moisture hangs in the air from the thicker tree up the ridgeline but was otherwise clear. Sadur sees there are three houses with central orchard and a large barn. There is a group of men out between the apple trees and you also see some children by the closest house.

Jasper

After shopping Jasper finds the city peaceful in the areas around the specialty shops and guildhalls. You have no trouble avoiding unwanted areas like the older residential areas where once a young family was abandoned. Helen might still be a seamstress, but Jasper does not cross her path. He does pass children in the street but none so young. Jasper meets a few people in the Guild, mostly apprentices who are only in the city to train, hoping to leave as soon as they have their credentials and a good letter of recommendation. You are able to find the components easily enough - consisting of charcoal, incense, and herbs - and after acquiring a brazier you are set for your ritual.

Leon

Spending some time at the temple, the Matron approves you to work along see an acolyte working in a ward for minor illness and injury. You to several patients with wounds that need attention to avoid infection. Several men are there for injuries sustained in a mining accident. The Temple takes pride in keeping the common people in care. You notice outside there is a garden where children sit around the Matron who seems to be answering their questions, and you may learn she teaches the local youths several days a week.

Back at the Hearth, some Hunters have come in for Market day with furs and meat. They were out for several weeks. They did not have much luck in the Eastern lands but picked up a large migration of elk moving along a river in the South, out of the valley. They separated a large group and picked them off. Many fine antlers.

The Boy has a job you could do tonight. There is a bare-knuckle boxing match that needs someone standing by. The establishment is offering 5gp for ‘Services and Discretion’ for a few hours of work. He says it's a good way to "get known".
Oct 1, 2022 9:16 pm
Bare knuckle. Well that sounds promising thinks Leon, and entertaining! "I'll be there kid." Leon flips Oliver a silver.
Oct 2, 2022 12:24 am
After seeing the half-orc leave, Xarakas finds a blacksmith to buy a few traps, depending of the price.

After that he goes back to the heart of hearth to get the gossips of the town and to give his first performance which he named 'The lost miner' offering a heroic version of their morning adventure in which the half-orc lumberjack beats a giant insect to a pulp using his hands as large as the trees he cut and how their Physiker friend proceeded into a delicate operation to save the mans live from a horrific and painful death.

The half-orc approaches the group of men, since they were closer, drawing eyes and hushing their conversation before he was even in range to speak. The group of humans in front of Sadur were not sure how to take the man, but before they could even begin the lone traveler explained himself. Though a few of them whisper amongst each other seeming confused and even upset over Sadur's presence, the oldest of the human men speaks up.

"I have told those boys for a week that we have a pack of critters hunting our livestock... and they just send you? No offense, mister, you look tough, but you can handle them all on your own, can you?" The old man scowls a bit, trying to Size Sadur up. The Greataxe on the Half-orc's back sells the image, but to the old man, you still look green.

No I'm not. Tomorrow my teammates come. Must stay safe tonight. Sadur suddenly realise older men called him mister, he rise his ayes and try to see the situation with livestock: is there a barn or they stay out in the field during the night? Fence, dogs , etc.
Can you tell me more about them? How big the pack? Do they attack day or night? Where ? Here?

If he learns that wolfs are not afraid to come to the farm hunting right next to the farmhouses he would try to deal with farmers to design means to get his teammates up an apple tree some 10-15 foot above the ground so they could shoot from there. Or perhaps make a sharpened log fence around some 10 foot square - somewhere in the field.

2 Hunting traps are 10gp and 50lbs of weight. You are encumbered while carrying those, but you have a place in town to stow them for now.
You spend the afternoon shopping, returning with traps weighing you down. While your old clothes are washed and dried, you spend time at Inn. Xarakas tries out some new verses but might need some more 'classical heroics' as the body horror content seems not to jive with the patrons eating lunch... however you send out the news and the people will be talking. Sitting in one place long enough, Xarakas has seen artisans and craftspersons, blacksmiths, miners, loggers, and work-crew bosses. Even a few of this backwoods city's courtiers have found a table together in the corner and keep to themselves. You will also see Marconi's daughter who is dressed in a conservative servant's uniform to cover her skin and hair as she clears tables. See sees to the guests and is treated kindly, under the watchful eye of her father. Many labors come through, but no one messes with her. The Marconi boy is less attentive to his chores, hanging out with the workmen and sitting down to take orders, while his sister cleans.

Soon enough that young man reaches Xarakas as he is resting, bringing him an 'Ale on the house'. "Hey... what's with the skin?" He doesn't seem put off, not like most of the other patrons. "And your eyes are black, just like they are saying. "

Sadur

There is a central barn with stables and even some newly built pens for some animals, with fencing encircling around. It is fairly secure. The houses themselves are well-built. Overall this location is fairly secure. You do see that the main group of hoofstock, either cows or goats or both are out still grazing. The old man turns to look with you. "It happens while they are out. Most of our group are riding tonight trying to keep the herd safe. There in the hills on the path yond." He points out the path towards the grazing fields. The old man grumbles to himself, looking to you. "They should be back soon... I told them to come in before the light fades."

He looks down again. "Come on to the house you must need water." With a wave of his hand the old man limps along the dirt path back towards the largest house. "Then you can rest in the Barn, tonight."
Oct 4, 2022 9:52 am

at the Heart of Hearth :: Xarakas and Jasper

The coppers were scooped up with his left hand as he smiles brightly, taking the joke and the hint and heading off to get the stage ready. By the time the evening crowd starts coming in, the boy has spruced up the beautifully crafted and dyed wooden central stage with a stool and a table with water and ale pre-poured for Xarakas. Above is an encircling balcony, while panels above and below catch the sound. this place was made with acoustics in mind. The crowd would have no trouble hearing him. Around the simplistic platform are rows of longtables and benchseats and more tables for guests. Where there were empty all day there are now taken first as guests arrive. He was not playing to critics or for his life, though his lifestyle and opinions were possible in question. Many came tonight. They heard of the 'Blue Bard' and whispers had been growing.

Marconi was at first taken by surprise but quickly sends one of his boys to gather more hands for servers and busboys, seeing that the bar might actually come close to capacity. The regulars were already there, but between desperate monotony and simple curiosity, it seemed the whole town might arrive at the Heart of Hearth this eve. Marconi sends his other boy to any other food or drink vendor he was in good standing with and has his daughter take the back stairs and begin preparing the balcony.

It was Market Day tomorrow, so there were more people in town this night then would likely be all year, and it seems they are all coming for entertainment. It's Show Time, Xarakas

Elsewhere in the City :: Leon

When leaving the Inn, Leon notices a crowd forming. There are significantly more people on the street tonight. People of all sorts. Many come from outside the city for Market Day. As well there seems to be an increase in the City Watch. The torches and street lanterns give a surreal sense to the chaotic movement of people rushing about their business in the late evening. Muddy streets, the chill in the air, your breath even brings vapor as you step away from the main thoroughfare to follow the directions you were given. The clambering sounds behind you give way to the ruckus noises ahead. There is a gathering of labors milling about a central area between large warehouses.

You were directed to the middle building but are stopped at the doorway by a Dwarf with a hand spread as wide as your chest. "Where do you think you're going? Taker's over there." He points to a stand where the Bookies were busy taking bets. "Everyone else can wait."

Leon looks at the Dwarf for a second before holding up his healer’s kit, "Sir I do believe you are mistaken, I’m not here for the show, I’m here to make sure the show goes on! Now, who do I need to talk to about making sure that happens? Lets try not to keep the crowd waiting shall we?."

Your words don't sway him. A hand on the dwarf's back is the only thing that moves the wall-of-a-man, who turns to allow a young woman with a sharp smile to greet Leon. Garbed in robes, hood, mask, and veil, with jewelry worn in silver chains over top of it all. She is dressed as a foreigner from the desertlands with dark skin, only her eyes are exposed, dark eyes in the insufficient light, which give her away before her voice - as smooth and exotic as silk. "Easy Brute, he is expected."

She is so completely out of place that as she guides you through the temporary arena, she is given space by anyone in her way. You pass the ring of wooden fencing and go over to a side room. "You can wait in here until you're needed." It seems you won't be attending the fight itself, but is likely a matter of deniability.

The room has a few tables that could handle a body tossed on top, and a couple of chairs pushed to the side, but easy enough to reset for your own comfort. The event was starting and you are left much to your own devices within the room but become aware there is another bulky-looking fellow left outside the door.

The first fight begins and sure enough, within the third round of cheers and jeers, there is that eerie silence that washes over the crowd as they wait to hear if the downed man was only knocked out. A great excitement takes over as the winner is announced, and within a few moments, you are watching a large unconscious man heaped upon your table. He has several large bruises, a few lacerations, and a broken nose.
Oct 6, 2022 3:19 am
"Indeed," says Leon with a smile of his own.

Leons professionalism is evident as he begins examining the downed fighter. "Assuming what we see here is all there is, he’ll live. But let’s take a closer look shall we?"

A quick cursory examination reveals what would appear to be only superficial injuries consistent with a bare-knuckle fight. Leons true concerns however are what hidden.

Leon attempts to awaken the fighter before tending to his cuts, but maintains some distance. Experience has taught him how violent men can sometimes react be being tended to.

Assuming he can rouse the fighter, he interviews him and performs several tests to his ascertain his cognitive function, mobility and if there are internal injuries which is typical of blunt force trauma. Experience has also taught Leon that fights like this can also be dirty affairs. Leon also looks for things like signs of poison use or drugging.

He comes to eventually and is okay overall. Your attention to the details annoys the fighter who begins insisting he is okay but his nose is bashed. You could reset it or it is going to heal crooked, but that is not life-threatening. Overall he'll probably recover, though there can be lasting effects from getting knocked unconscious.

"Sit down" Leon say firmly "That nose of yours needs to be set. I know looking like an Orc might work for you out there, but trust me being able to breathe is more important."

Xarakas enters the stage and take a long time to tune the luth to his liking. He liked to let the tension builds. He takes 5 of his candles and set them up in front of him.

Once he feels the crowd is ready he cast spell to snuff out the light sources on and around the stage.
Then he lights the 5 candles with a bright white flame. As he sings he constantly makes the candles shift colors to match the mood of his songs.

Once he's finished he relights the lamps, blows his candles and go see Marconni. "Did I met my end of the bargain? Did it pleased you?

leaving tomorrow for camping might have delayed answers in the next few days. Feel free to wrap this up.

You manage to reset the man's nose, but some might think excessive pain. But the man was a fighter, he's been through worse. Right?

Your next patient is not far behind as they haul the first man out. With some abrasions and lacerations, the man need several bandages, but the main issue was his torn bottom lip which was bleeding quite a bit. The man needs stitching to close his lip.

After the Show - Xarakas

There is applause over the general ruckus, many happy faces among them, including the Barkeep Marconi, back at the bar after getting people into gear. There were many different groups at your show tonight, few would argue ask the skill of the bard, but much was at work in swaying a crowd. Later when speaking to the Owner, Marconi says, "You might have come at the perfect time... but you'll have some to win some over. If you stick around, they might even get used to you." You could see them too, the unhappy faces in the crowd. The faces of people questioning your right to exist. In the best-case scenario, those types of people came to see the freakshow, at worst... well you might want to be careful around some of these hicks.

But as far as Marconi, he is happy to have you remain there if you play, at least through the Market weekend. He also heard that one of the local lords might be interested in hiring you for private shows if you are interested. He offers you food on the balcony or in your room, as you please. You remain at the Inn and get a good night's rest.

You manage to sow him up cleanly but a little crooked. He will go on to have a jagged scar there from the rest of his days.

Last one of the night comes in unconscious, blood oozing from welts. He is in rough shape and needs stabilizing now!
OOC:
Medicine check or Healer's kit to stabilize.
Then an Investigation check please
Jasper @GeneCortess

Attending the Inn's dinner and a show, performed by Xarakas, Jasper has a chance for himself, the Tiefling professional skills. It was too crowded close to the stage by the time Jasper arrives. The Hearth was well attended tonight, only in part for the rare chance for entertainment. It was awkward from back nearer to the bar, where Jasper was, as people talked amongst themselves with jest and even some casual disdain. Nearby your seat an old man grumbles about curses.

During the show you see a few faces of drinking buddies and even some of the old gang from your youth. They seem not to have noticed you yet, but you have changed a bit in these last four years.

Do you make yourself known?

Leon uses his Healers kit to stabilize the guy before looking over his injuries. Unusual for a fight. Welts don't usually ooze blood and he suspects there is more to it. Leon brings a light in close to get a better look.
OOC:
Any bonus to investigation for having the medicine skill? Medical Investigation?

Based on the injuries, you believe this man was not hit with fists, as the force of the impact would surely have broken the other man's hands. His vitals are okay and you think he is stabilized but could use some further attention from a qualified doctor or healer.

The boxer and his corner man are there, and there is that guard outside, who works for the manager of this event.
Oct 20, 2022 5:27 pm
"It will probably do him some good to get some more care after tonight" Says Leon "So what happened out there?"
Oct 20, 2022 8:25 pm
You question the corner man, who is confused and worried about the boxer. The injured man went two rounds looking fine, then when the third round started it was like every hit he took was brutal. Yet, he didn't see anything out of place. The boxer is concussed but says it was the first punch in the last round that hit him like a ton of bricks.
Oct 20, 2022 9:24 pm
"His injuries are not consistent with match fight. See here...look closely. The speed and power needed to deliver this kind of damage would destroy the hands of a man."
