The smith hesitates, but leans back. "Go, then! Hurry!"

A loud crack sounds from above as fire consumes one of the large beams supporting the octagonal roof.

Everybody in the basement -- Felor, Leth, and Mordred -- please make a DEX saving throw.

Ignoring the shooting pains in his shoulder and ankle, Felor tries to scramble out of the way of the falling beam and towards Mordred.

Domarc looks into the inferno and pauses for a moment, lyrics from some almost forgotten song coming into his head:

I know there are stairs around the back of the church; are those still intact?

The stairs had started burning and are probably gone or at least unusable by now.

Rolling for Mordred...


Edit: The smoking beam plunges down into the basement and lands butt-end first on Aeron in a burst of sparks and splintering wood. As the rest of the beam tips over it catches Felor as he rushes to help Mordred out of the way.

Edit 2: Felor sees only darkness and floating stars before him as the beam lays him flat.

Felor, make a CON save.

All other party members may take an action now.

Ready action to Help or Assist people out of the basement when it's required. I'll add an Athletics check if it's needed, otherwise if it grants the people downstairs Advantage, we can go with that.

Domarc lowers himself down, letting himself drop the last few feet. The basement is choked with smoke. Several small fires are burning on the ground and the beam that just fell lays across the floor, cracked and smoldering. Something foul is hissing and burning at the far end of it; at the near end, a coughing Mordred is crouched next to Felor, who may be unconscious. Domarc can hear Leth nearby but cannot see him or the priest.

"Gentlemen! We are leaving!" Domarc calls out; he stays where he is at the bottom of the rope.

Cast Healing Word at 2nd level as a bonus action on Felor.

I'm assuming coming down here was my move, and then I've used a bonus action. If I still have an action, I will hold it - if the priest appears next to me, I will attack with my +1 dagger

Everyone who wants to leave the basement, make an Athletics check to climb up the rope.

Domarc will hold position at the bottom of the rope, ready to attack if the priest shows up.

Felor blinks as his vision returns. The fire is still very much alight, it seems. Coughing, he crawls to the dangling rope and attempts to heave himself up.

Felor is the first up, grasping Zangua's hand at the top of the ledge. The blacksmith grabs him by the arm and hauls him up, leaving Felor to stagger away from the burning building and toward the crowd of onlookers. He lifts his head to the steel gray sky and tries to draw a breath as he silently offers thanks to Fjorgyn. Almost immediately, he doubles over coughing, but soon the fresh air will have him set to rights.

Domarc, Leth and Mordred are still down in the basement and can make Athletics checks to climb out.

Hey, everyone! Congratulations on not being burned alive! Or dead, if you think about it.

I'm joining this game and will create a character soon. Looks like we have a cleric, rogue, bard, ranger, and fighter. What would you folks like to have help with? Should I try to be a secret wizard? Or a secret druid? Some 5E class I haven't heard of because I've only played 1-3Es?

Probably the one we're a little weak on is straight-up magic user? (So could be warlock, sorcerer, or wizard in 5E) But don't let that restrict your choice, we're already a fairly-rounded team. 5E is fairly flexible in terms of letting classes not be too narrowly-specialised if they don't want to be. Also: welcome!
