LMoT - Nightal 30, 1491

Nov 10, 2018 2:06 pm
The groups spends another evening in the ruined town of Conyberry, positioned along the Triboar Trail. The night passes without incident. The morning comes and further confirmation of the winter season hits you as another frigid day is upon you.

Once fed and ready to move, you head south following a rough trail in what you believe to be the direction of the Well based on the information Bebaral was given by Daran Edermath.

After a rough 8-10 hours of travel in the harsh cold you crest a low ridge, you spy the crumbling ruins of an old watchtower standing amid the rugged hills. The place is so old that the walls are only mounds of rubble enclosing a courtyard of sorts, adjacent to the broken stump of an old tower. A colorful tent has been set up in the middle of the courtyard, but no one is in sight.

Need con saves from everyone. DC10 or receive one level of exhaustion

Then what do you do?
Nov 10, 2018 2:07 pm
OOC:
I'll repost it here, just in case:

Before resting Leylin will offer his services to identify any one or two items they wish to know more about.
I don't remember - does anyone still has that longsword from Redbrand's monter's stash?

Also in the morning Leylin will play a little tune and himself, Spark and Gulorg will have 9 temp HP.

OOC:
Also, any advantage from Prestidigitation use? :)
I'll roll twice just in case

Nine's joints don't squeak as much they have on past days travel. Nine walks quietly, not striking up conversation but responding when spoken to. Once they arrive, it speaks up, This is the place you desire, small one? It looks like someone is here first! Was it a race?

OOC:
Sorry for being late to the party, end of year usually is pretty busy for me. I'll do my best to be more consistent in my posting.
Long before we get up, probably even during the evening if Leylin proposed such service, I'd ask him to know more about the amazing blade we found. — Leylin I'd be interested if you took a look at Talon, the longsword we got in the bandits' hideout. It's the first time I own such a rare thing and it'd be a shame if I missed some of its properties.
Regardless of whether I succeed in warming myself up or not, I won't complain about it. Just pack my gear and eat a good ration while we plan the day ahead.

Nov 12, 2018 9:13 pm
OOC:
Leylin would relay the information about the sword to Spark and leave it to him whether to share it with the rest of the group
Nov 13, 2018 4:09 pm
OOC:
As it is the same as what I already shared when I acquired the item, there's no need the relay that information. Just comforts me with the fact that Spark is very proud to carry and use such a weapon.
I've learned from my mistakes and doubly understand the value of collecting information before we go in, so I turn to Leylin:
— I don't know much about scouting, but I know that it was you that saved our as... lives yesterday. So Leylin, do you think you should scout the place while we try not to get spotted?

— If you all are ready to wait for some time - I would really prefer to scout that... encampment. I answer to Spark and look to others for their reactions.

Leylin disappears from sight and moves towards the red tent. The further in you travel the stronger the stench becomes. Leylin approaches the tent opening and stops to listen at the entrance. The sound of a male voice quietly murmuring can be heard from inside.

At the same time from the direction of the smell, the sound of groans and the shuffling of feet can be heard as Leylin sees a zombie slowly meander out from the tower, followed by another, then another, then another...

Yeah, I wasn't sure based on the wording since it says "the first creature you hit on each of your turns with a weapon attack takes extra damage" I didn't know if that would take effect on a reaction/readied attack. Since something like extra attack doesn't take effect on a readied attack/reaction.

Gu’lorg will take a step diagonally to get a better look at the scene, rubbing his hands together and saying B’flang-ouzfratchje.

OOC:
The way I see it is you used Temptuous Magic to get on top of the wall (5up 5over), this got you safely away from Zombies 3 & 5 without an AoO...you then moved along the wall under your own movement (15' right)...unless I'm misinterpreting Temptuous Magic only alllows safe movement for those 10'...not the entire round. So when you move out of range of 4 is when they get a shot at you.

Leylin's arrow hits its mark, causing the zombie to begin turning in the direction of the attack.

Nine delivers a devasting blow to the prone zombie. As he lifts the axe, there is little remaining of the Now still undead creature.
It’s a little rough but Bebaral manages to climb 15’ up to the top of the tree.
Z4 attempts to move towards Nine, entering the grease area, it stays on it’s feet and attacks the Barbarian, but misses as he spends most of its energy staying upright.

Z5 moves around to also attack nine, this time successfully.

Z9 attacks nine and z11 goes after Droop...neither attack makes contact.

The rest of the undead surround the tree Bebaral climbed.

Overlooked - Leylin can either work up the stairs behind him or go next to the body like he mentioned. The tower, while a ruin, has walls that are too tall to climb in one turn(30’), so you can attempt to climb them, with an athletics check, you would move at half movement

Bebaral hits #6 with his bow, the arrow penetrating the rotting skin and flying right through into the ground on the other side. The zombie turns its attention back in your direction.
Gu’lorg’s sphere slams into #8 burning its flesh, followed up by the jagged arcane life exploding into #1. The zombie crumples to the ground.

Also in the tent is a chest filled with a leather bag containing 35 sp, 20 ep, 20 gp, 5 pp, one pearl, a potion of healing, a scroll inside a bone tube (A Sorcerer, Warlock or Wizard recognizes it as a scroll of Darkness), a tiny jeweled box containing a ring.

A few seconds after the last zombie is felled, Nine's red eyes fade to black and the construct affixes the axe back into the chamber from where it was drawn.

That was an exciting fight. You bunch are formidable combatants. This one is pleased to have joined with you. Were you expecting to find undead here? Do you know who that red robed man is? Do you know how long he has been here? Do you know why he was here? Why did you want to come here, to begin with? The rapid-fire questions end with Nine looking back and forth across the group, waiting for answers as it follows Leylin to the tent.
Dec 10, 2018 6:49 pm
"I expected some but not that much. I was thinking maybe a few skeletons inside the well or something. We're here to acquire some magical items that should be helping us in our search for their friend." Bebaral answers as he climbs down from the wall.
Dec 10, 2018 9:39 pm
Gu’lorg will perform his normal slaying rituals to Bargrivyek until he is summoned.
OOC:
It will take about 3-5 minutes for him to put the blood on his face and nose.
During the ceremony, anyone present will be offered to become a brother in bloodshed. Anyone who accepts the offer will have blood of the wizard smeared on the bridge of their nose.
Dec 10, 2018 9:42 pm
Nine walks to Gu'lorg, What is is that you are doing? Nine has not seen this custom before.
Dec 11, 2018 8:16 am
As the fight winds down, I stay alert for a few more seconds, looking around for any enemy that would have stayed away from the melee and could be trying to harm us in more subtle ways.
If nothing arises, I'll go check if anyone needs care. If Leylin shows me the scroll, I'll identify it for him. Which will remind me of something that will probably be of interest for Gu'lorg.
— Nine, Gu'lorg performs this ritual after every fight in the honor of his god. Do you know anything about hobgoblin gods?
Dec 11, 2018 1:33 pm
Nine continues to watch the post-battle ritual while answering, No, this one has not learned about hobgoblin gods. This one did not know there was such a thing as a hobgoblin god.
Dec 11, 2018 2:30 pm
Gu’lorg breaks from the ceremony and asks, Spark, Nine, will you be my brothers in bloodshed?

He reaches out with a hand full of the pulp that was the enemy wizard’s face, still crouched near the body.
Dec 11, 2018 2:32 pm
This one would be honored. Nine moves closer to Gu'lorg and kneels to the ground, next to him.
Dec 11, 2018 2:44 pm
Gu’lorg places a stripe of blood on Nine’s nose, and despite being an automaton, the surface of his nose becomes green.

I will speak your language so that you may understand.

You are now Green’Nine’Nose, brother of the booyagh of Bargrivyek.
Gu’lorg gestures to himself as he says booyagh of Bargrivyek.

You have proven worthy of honor and respect on the field of battle, and this one he kicks the soupy head on the floor has proven ill-suited and undeserving of life.

May you have the blessings of Bargrivyek upon you as you vanquish the dishonorable from this world.

Gu'lorg takes Nine’s hand and lifts him from the floor, to a standing position.

Gu’lorg sweeps dust ceremoniously from Nine’s back and shoulders. We are bonded. We will fight side by side against the evils that threaten our world. I will go with you to help you find your creator, and you will aid me to save our world.

Gu’lorg claps his hands, grasps the glass staff, and says, Thank you, brother. We should keep moving. Did we find anything of interest here?
Dec 11, 2018 2:50 pm
Nine bows before Gu'lorg then places a hand on the hobgoblins shoulder, Thank you, friend Gu'lorg. This is a great kindness, the likes of which this one has not seen in a very long time. Nine will fight by your side until our missions are completed. Nine stands silent for a moment before joining back with the group.

Not many discoveries though, except for one magic ring with protective enchantment. I take out and show the ring to everyone who's in the tent. If anyone is interested - I can translate those notes to Common later. Right now I suggest we burn all dead bodies, pack up what we can use and return to the town. I, for one, want to get some warm clothes.

"I wouldn't mind seeing those notes.
Wouldn't that prolong our expidition? albiet in more comfortable settings? We were on our way to some forest I thought maybe the wind will have less of a hold of us in there?"

At the mention of burning the corpses, Nine moves from the tent and begins dragging the re-dead bodies into a large pile before tossing the corpse of the mage on top. He pulls out a flask of oil and douses the mound before lighting it with his flint and tinder.
OOC:
Ski, if you disapprove of me doing this without permission just yell at me and i will un-burn them....

— Right now we are to return to town abd receive healing potions for the inquiry we made with banshee. And I'd prefer not to freeze on our way there.

As NINE lights the bodies up, I sigh out loud: — Well, here goes our peaceful warm shelter... *sigh* Well, let's pack up and run away while we can still breathe. I don't want to smell like a burned zombie for a week!

All good Nine...the RP is good, feel free to carry on...we have lost Gulorg unfortunately and I am just handwaving that he is distraught over Droops cowardice and is going of to continue his study alone for the present time. For the remaining four of let me know how you are proceeding.

— Wait a second... Berabal, weren't we supposed to find something around here? You mentioned magical items and artifacts if I recall correctly. Shouldn't we search the area for just that before we leave? I mean, any magical item would be worth a day of searching in this freezer.

"Hopefully, It will take me a moment but Leylin there said he found somethings already." Bebaral would take the time if allowed to search about the area.
OOC:

OOC:
Leylin, do you wish to discuss your findings or will you all begin the journey away from here? And where are you headed 1) Phandalin or to Gundren?
Feb 11, 2019 10:56 am
OOC:
Leylin already gave out summary of his findings and displayed the ring. He also stated that he need to return to Phandalin to report answer he got from banshee. If noone else is interested in mage's tent, Leylin will get some useful stuff that he can carry (furs, blankets, warm clothes, maybe some other equipment that could be of use in their travels.

The winds whip outside as you determine your next course of action...you are 3.5 days travel from Phandalin.

OOC:
We weren't asked to roll anything in order to search the area properly on that magic items matter. Do we need to before we go?

OOC:
Everything of interest has been found. Barring any dissenting opinion I will move us along towards Phandalin by tonight or tomorrow.

OOC:
Leylin will 'Identify' the ring during first night rest and also will check on Gundren's location every night.

He would also translate necromancer's records to Common both for Bebaral and as a report to Sister.
