"Well road's shite... That's actually good I guess if we just want to go to Buzzard's Ford and inquire if someone collected taxes and ran with them we'll need to find that out, helping out with the local altercations is something we'll all need to agree to since I didn't think we packed needing to restrain people."

OOC:
OK, so unless you tell me otherwise, I'll update your progress later today under the assumption you chose not to follow the hunters and instead want to try to contact the Lizardfolk farther south on your own.
Feb 10, 2020 10:44 pm
Not wanting to confront the poachers, you return to the main road south toward the Flametail River and Tamalir. Pushing southward throughout the day, you start to see the trees of the Blackwing Swamp before you toward the right side of the road. As night falls, the edges of the swamp loom off to the west. Thinking a nocturnal jaunt through the marshland a bad idea, you make camp and prepare to try your luck at daybreak.
[ +- ] Swamp's Edge
The next morning, you take the cart off road through the meadow that stretches between swamp and road. The ground gets softer as you approach the swamp, eventually becoming a thick muck as the trees become denser. Fearing the cart might get stuck, you leave it back a pace as you tentatively step into the shelter of the trees.
OOC:
I'm thinking a Survival check to find traces of Lizardfolk sounds right. Difficulty will be Average upgraded (RP) with two boosts for others helping out. Of course, I'm open to other suggestions for how to find them, including magic.

OOC:
Oh, and I don't think I've given y'all the chance to try to remember facts about Lizardfolk that might come in handy. Since they're fairly rare, I'd all it a Daunting (PPPP) Knowledge (Adventuring) check, but it's likely something you would have all discussed over your trip south, so two boosts sound warranted for putting your heads together.
Feb 11, 2020 1:40 pm
OOC:
I'll opt out of being the roller, both would be GG for me.
Feb 11, 2020 2:32 pm
As they move along Hildar racks his brains trying to recall all he knows about the lizard folk, discussing the scraps of knowledge with the others.
OOC:
Knowledge checks are pretty much on brand for Hildar...survival not so much lol

Throwing a boost die in for unskilled assistance as I think we'd be talking this out as we go but feel free to disregard if inappropriate.....I was not expecting that result lol Lore dump incoming?

Rolls

Knowledge (Adventuring)

8 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 7 Success, 1 Threat

OOC:
Wow. That might be the most net-successes I've ever seen rolled in the Narrative Dice System.

Well done! Hildar!
Feb 11, 2020 3:24 pm
OOC:
LOL! Yes, and with no proficiency dice! Hildar knows all the things. Lore dump coming up...
OOC:
I actually said you got two boosts, so let's see if it makes a difference. Total is 8 Successes!

Rolls

The previous night gave you the chance to put your heads together to recall what you could about Lizardfolk. Hildar's book learning comes in handy, as always, but a couple of other members of the group recall a couple more salient facts or correct mistaken notions that get raised.

1. Historians believe the Lizardfolk were once the dominant race of the world, with continent-spanning empires. However, their nations crumbled in times now mostly forgotten.

2. On the continent of Terrinoth, Lizardfolk are largely extinct. Pockets of them still persist in places like the Blackwing Swamp, where they tend to avoid contact with outsiders.

3. They live largely as nomadic hunter–gatherers, capturing game in traps, taking down bigger animals in organized hunts, and fishing.

4. They are suspicious of outsiders (and usually meet strangers with violence), but they have been known to trade swamp products (such as meat) for crafted goods from the cities (including alcohol, medical supplies, or items made from steel, glass, and other materials unavailable in raw form).

5. They are cold-blooded, and therefore vulnerable to cold.

6. Their tribes are led by a chief, with spiritual life led by a shaman. Other tribe members fight, scout, hunt, and gather as needs demand.

7. Lizardfolk lay eggs in broods that take several weeks to hatch. They are especially dangerous if their eggs are in danger.

8. They have had little contact with Catfolk or Orcs, so they are likely to be more open to dealing with them than with Humans, Elves, Dwarves, or Gnomes.
OOC:
#4 especially might have been handy to know before you left civilization, so I'm cool with a Story Point flip and personal funds being used to buy some sort of trade good if you wish (that is, spending personal silver rather than your per diem). We can abstract it to 1 gold (10 silver) per case of something.

Does T1: Deep pockets work? :D

That would be helpful for a small token, like a bottle of wine, a steel dagger, or a lantern. That might be worth a boost die, but not as much as a full cask of wine, a crate of daggers, etc. Really depends on how you all intend to approach the encounter with them.
Feb 11, 2020 7:49 pm
OOC:
I think it's worth the Story Point (and silver).
Feb 11, 2020 9:43 pm
OOC:
Comes out to 2 silver apiece for a single crate. The horse cart can't hold much more than that with all of you in it plus supplies, so we can roll with that since folks seem to think it's a good idea. -2 silver to everyone unless someone wants to moneybags it. I'll update things once one of you (Nera)? makes the Survival check.
Feb 12, 2020 6:13 pm
OOC:
I'm proceeding as if you flip the SP and spend 2 silver each to have something to trade. Someone please let me know what you have a crate or barrel of!

Also, folks have gotten pretty quiet. Do we need to touch base on your progress or how the game's progressing?

Finally, Somebox in particular seems to have been slowed down by IRL stuff. I'll roll Nera's Survival check just to keep us from stalling out.
Nera takes the lead on trying to find signs of Lizardfolk activity. Using the knowledge Hildar and others were able to provide, she looks to the shallow waters for evidence of nets or other traps. Sure enough, she finds what appears to be a net trap in a shallow puddle of muck, tied to a system of pulleys in a tree above. There's evidence in the reeds that a large, humanoid creature (or more than one) may have moved through the area fairly recently; the trail leads toward a copse of trees nearby.

Rolls

Survival with help from friends, SB from carrying the huge crate/barrel

6 Success, 2 Advantage, 1 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 5 Success

I guess for my part, I'm still trying to figure out the group dynamics, and where/how Bruv fits in that.

As a player/user, I'm on this site every day multiple times a day, due to all the games I'm in (and my desk job that affords me that availability). But as the new guy to this game in particular, I don't feel comfortable yet driving the story/making decisions as much as I would be able to by virtue of the fact that I am here every day, multiple times a day.

I'm watching and here, I'm not the chatterboxy character in this game though so mostly waiting further information currently and being the old head of the group.

Didn't even check yesterday, still a bit busy + anxious over waiting to hear back regarding a promotion. Overall been lowering my motivation unfortunately.

OOC:
I hope things settle down for you soon, somebox!

So both of my GM'ed games are in roughly similar spots: How do you plan to move into the area you've discovered? Sneak in? Go in straightforward but keeping an eye out for trouble? Making a lot of noise so they're not surprised?
Feb 13, 2020 1:54 am
OOC:
If it's to see lizardfolk definitely voting for in the open and civil discussion or trade. If its BF simple inquiry on if taxes are paid and if so to whom but I dont think we're around there yet.
Feb 13, 2020 5:40 am
OOC:
Nera could sneak and scout ahead a bit to see what the situation is.
