Known Hazards: 2~3 Days of Desert Travel - monsters, bandits, and environmental conditions.
Recommended Skills: Problem solving, Exploration, Combat
Duty Roster: Max of 4 personnel.

Current player roster:
1. Valrakas (Jabes)
2. Rhograx Hidaar (Lunitar)
3. Kyros (Turukawa)
4. Qiora (CancerMan)
Jul 24, 2016 5:36 am
At 0400 the party meets with Tsira and Nalu at the main gate. The sun has yet to rise, the air is still cool.

"Glad to see you all managed to wake up after drink so much last night. It's about two and a half days to the forest, make sure you keep yourself hydrated. Even though Nalu is guiding you, be wary of whatever the Kamatayan throws your way.

Valrakas is given a flask that has the label "eel essence". It's supposed to electrify anything it's rubbed on, but there's only enough for a single use.

Tsira hands Rhograx a small, carved statue of a humanoid figure with gouged out eyes. It can record and replay a few seconds of noise. Don't look at it directly for too long, and keep it covered up.

Kyros gets an enchanted net that will lodge itself into a target when the command word is spoken. It's large enough to cover a medium sized creature, and is strong enough to hold a person or two. The enchantment is shoddy, and will wear off after one use.

Finally, Qiora receives a small, sticky ball of tar. It'll summon a pit wherever it is thrown.

"The last party took all the good stuff, these are the last magic items that we have in stock. It'd be nice to find a new supplier, but all the wizards in this desert probably got eaten already. While you are out there remember to do good, fight better, and be the best looking!

With that, the party exits and the gate closes. The morning air is still cool, so there's time to discuss what your game plan will be.
Jul 24, 2016 9:58 am
Kyros arrives stop on 0400 an stands as close as he can while staying at the back of the group.

"thank you"
Jul 24, 2016 3:00 pm
Valrakas sniffs the flask's contents, then quickly stoppers and stows it. "Well, what're we dawdlin' around fer? Lez go!""
Jul 24, 2016 6:08 pm
Qiora is dressed for desert travel, wearing loose robes of a light color and a shawl that can be wrapped around her head and face. Her pack is full of travel supplies and extra garments, and her violin case is attached. A flute and olifant hang from her belt, treated like weapons just as much as the sling and bullets on the opposite side.

"Kyros, was it?" asks the halfling, turning to face the tiefling skulking in the back. "I'm sorry for not being there when you were introduced; gate duty doesn't leave room for much socialization. What is it you do?" Qiora holds out her hand in greeting.
Jul 25, 2016 8:36 am
Kyros takes Qioras hand yes it's Kyros it's nice to meet you Qiora I have seen you around the keep. I am just here for work.

He is polite but only says what needs saying he knows your name for just sitting and watching for the last few weeks at the keep.
Jul 25, 2016 5:04 pm
"Yes, work is very good," Qiora nods in agreement. "But, seeing as how the four of us will be on our own for quite some time as we venture into an unknown forest-slash-jungle looking into an unknown terror that plagues the fey... well, it'd REALLY help if we knew what you do; what you're good at."
Jul 25, 2016 10:07 pm
Me I'm not bad with my bow. I know how to track, hunt and fight.
Jul 25, 2016 10:19 pm
"Ah! Wonderful!" claps Qiora. She is obviously pleased with the revelation. "You can head up front with our esteemed guide, Nalu, and ensure that our path is without hindrance."

The halfling turns to the minotaur, her conversation with Kyros at an apparent end. "Valrakas, dear, how's your head?"
Jul 26, 2016 11:24 am
Nalu mounts his dung beetle, cheerfully waiting for the party to finish their prep.

"I'm glad this is working out, who knows what the elders would've done if I turned up empty handed...
OOC:
Ready to go when you guys are, feel free to ask Nalu questions about... anything! Except relationship advice.
Jul 26, 2016 4:51 pm
"Say, Nalu," begins Qiora, "you mentioned that you were one of the few that were immune to the spores of myconids. Do you know why?"
Jul 26, 2016 5:45 pm
Valrakas rubs his head. What the hell is Qiora on about?! He hears her ask Nalu a question. The minotaur waits for the sprite to answer.
Jul 26, 2016 10:27 pm
Nalu shifts in his seat, and his face turns red.

"Uhh, well it's probably because I spend all day on the forest floor. I'm the one who cleans up all the dung and waste, so I'm used to dealing with disgusting things."

He laughs sheepishly and pats his dung beetle.

"It's not a glamorous job, but it's necessary for society's survival. Me and Peat here have been through a lot together!"
Jul 26, 2016 11:26 pm
"Does that stand to reason that others in your community that stay close to the ground are also immune?" Qiora continues. "No one has become infected or exhibited... er, whatever symptoms you've observed?"

Qiora is content to converse as they travel. She remains close enough to be heard, but not so far ahead as to interfere with the guidance of Nalu and Kyros.
Jul 26, 2016 11:43 pm
Rhograx looks at the small carving for a second and chills go up his reptilian spine. He quickly wraps it in leather and puts it in a side pocket.

"Sorry for the delay, the carving held my attention. I'm ready when you guys are. Maybe a song for the road?"
Jul 27, 2016 8:28 am
"Familiars and animals usually do the cleaning, I got stuck with the job because I have no talent for magic... or fighting... or alchemy."

The party travels at a brisk pace as they talk.

"A song sounds lovely, it should be fine right now because this part of the journey is pretty peaceful. Not much out here except sand and bones, a strange place for a keep."
Jul 27, 2016 9:07 am
Kyros will walk up at the front with nalu as Qiora suggested. He has a smile on his face he enjoys being out of the keep and licensing to the conversation although he doesn't say anything.
Jul 28, 2016 3:46 pm
Rhograx starts to play a little melody, called when Valrakas comes marching home.
Jul 28, 2016 4:39 pm
"Have any of the cleaning familiars or animals become infected?" Qiora asks. Clearly she is trying to figure out some working theory on the myconid threat and possible countermeasures.
Aug 1, 2016 10:35 am
"Umm, a lot of them do. The birds don't come to the ground as often, but most of the animals stuck on the ground are easily affected. Insects and spiders don't seem to bothered by it, though."
Aug 1, 2016 3:56 pm
"Insects and spiders," Qiora repeats to herself. "And you, on the forest floor." She falls silent, mulling things over.
Aug 1, 2016 10:22 pm
"So, are we to be shrunk, or shall we just step on these insecs causing you problems?" Rhograx asks, thinking this to be easy.
Aug 1, 2016 11:23 pm
Qiora leans over to Rhograx and whispers, "They're having trouble with myconids."
Aug 2, 2016 6:53 am
"We cut 'em down. I shoulda' brought me axe!"

Oh," he whispers back, "they have headaches?"
Aug 7, 2016 10:48 pm
Qiora smiles at Rhograx and pats his hip. Turning to Nalu, she asks another question, "And you're the only one in charge of cleaning up the waste on the forest floor, you say? Besides the insects and spiders, of course." She studies the sprite, harboring her own suspicions.

"Uhm, well I'm a special case. Most sprites are born being able to fight or cast spells, but I've always been sort of a failure."

He give his dung beetle an affectionate pat.

The forest animals are the real waste cleaners, I'm just down there because I can't do anything else.

Qiora senses that Nalu is telling the truth.

...

The first day of travel goes well, though the ungodly heat was almost unbearable. Nalu manages to lead to party to an oasis tucked away between some rock formations. However, the party is not the first traveler to set up camp here. There's a large carriage that is colored a deep purple, a large lizard that is resting on a flat stone, and a figure who's face is covered with a shemagh. Luckily, the oasis is big enough to accommodate both parties.

"We should be safe here for the night, bandits and monsters don't come this way. I'm gonna stay away from the lizard though, I'd rather not get eaten..."

The figure must have pretty good hearing, as it responds to Nalu. The voice is smoother than you'd expect from a desert traver.

"Don't worry, she's a solid sack of snoring scales right now."
Aug 23, 2016 1:59 pm
After dunking his horned head in the water and shaking it out, Valrakas stands with arms crossed, eyeing the stranger.
Aug 23, 2016 3:36 pm
"Well met, traveler!" greets Qiora. She takes a few steps forward, away from the cascading minotaur-infused water droplets, and curtsies politely to the masked individual. "I am Miss Qiora Jaymie Geng, and myself and my companions seek comfort from the desert heat. May we share in this place of rest with you?"

"Just because someone has scales doesn't mean they'll eat you!" Rhograx says winking at Nalu. "I find this heat relaxing, it warms my blood!"
Aug 25, 2016 11:41 am
Kyros refills his water skin and finds somewhere out of the way but not to far from the rest of the party. He sits and relaxes and enjoys people watching.

What can he see in or on the purple carriage and what can he make out About the other person there
Aug 29, 2016 11:14 am
The seated hooded figure turns towards the approaching party and leans their back against the carriage.

"Name's Yilzyss. This safe space can accommodate us all, I'm sure. Strange group of travelers, are you raiders?"

Yilzyss absent picks up sand and lets it fall through her fingers as she talks. The sand here is cool to the touch, and it's quite comfortable. This oasis would be a great trading hub if it weren't for the horrible location!

Nalu seems shy of the stranger, and avoids the conversation by setting up his small camp.

Kyros takes a look at the odd carriage...
OOC:
@Kyros - Roll me a perception, insight, or both.
Aug 29, 2016 4:17 pm
"Raiders? Certainly not," answers Qiora. "We are diplomats from the noble realm of Lady Tsira Omon." She looks over Yilzyss' camp and eyes the carriage, returning her attention to the stranger. "You have a fine mode of transportation. Perhaps you are of the nobility as well? From where do you hail?"

Kyros sees that the carriage is decorated in a way that is meant to attract people. It could be used to sell goods, or maybe it's just a traveling side show.

Yilzyss laughs.

"Certainly not, I'm a barterer. I like singers, actors, and feats of strength. If the performance is worthy, I'll make a trade."

Qiora doesn't think Yilzyss is lying, but that doesn't change the fact that she's strange. She's probably a trader from a city somewhere in the Kamatayan, but Qiora doesn't know much about the inhabitants of this desert well enough to pinpoint her accent.
OOC:
I actually don't have time to check you knowledge right now, so shoot me a message if you Qiora knows about the history/geography/biology of the desert!
Aug 30, 2016 11:26 pm
OOC:
Qiora followed Lady Tsira to the Kamatayan, so her knowledge of the local area is rather lacking.
"Marvelous! What do you often have for trade?" asks Qiora, clapping her hands with excitement.
Aug 31, 2016 10:26 am
Yilzyss clicks her tongue playfully.

"First you have to show me what you have to offer."

She looks the party up and down, rather intrusively.

"Oh yes, you all definitely have some skills hidden away. Show me what you've got, and I'll give you a gift of similar merit."

Yilzyss gives Valrakas a shrug.

"Maybe one of the rocks can put up a good fight."

As Qiora starts to play, Yilzyss stops playing with the sand and listens intently. Afterwards she becomes animated again, whips out a small notebook, and jots something down.

"What a curious instrument, is that music from your homeland? It reminded me of a staircase, or a journey. Step into my carriage, I've got something for someone on a journey."

As she finishes speaking, the door to her purple carriage opens up. Yilzyss steps in, and beckons Qiora to follow.
Sep 2, 2016 6:51 pm
"It was a simple scale, something to demonstrate the range of this instrument," Qiora says, modestly tipping her hat. "But the journey of a song must still begin with a simple note, so you're quite astute to have picked up on that." She turns and gives a nod to Valrakas, an unspoken gesture of I'll be right back, and follows Yilzyss to the carriage.

The inside of the carriage is filled with the fragrance of incense, and there's cushions all over the ground. Yilzyss is seated behind a low table, so Qiora seats herself on the opposite side. On the table is a flat metal tray, and a ornate looking jar. Once Qiora is comfortably seated, Yilzyss grabs the jar and pours out the contents onto the tray.

"This sand comes from ancient tombs under the Kamatayan, a witch taught me how to use it when I was very young."

As the sand is poured, it beings to shift as if it has a life of its own! The grains of sand being to form the shape of an exquisite rose covered in thorns.

"It reacts differently for each person, you see? By reading the sand I can tell your fortune."

Yilzyss adjusts her head wrap in order to get a better look at the sand, and Qiora catches a glimpse of her eyes. They looked almost reptilian.

"So, you're the youngest of the four, I see. You are like a locust, jumping from one opportunity to the next, it's very impressive. It seems that nature will be your enemy, for the time being. I would avoid any strange weather, and I would not trust the trees. The result of your current quest will lead to both destruction and creation on a large scale, so take care in the choices you make."

After she finishes, the sand looses it's vigor and collapses. Yilzyss cleans up the table, and gives Qiora a bow. From outside, Rhograx begins to play.

"That's all for now, hopefully my performance suited your tastes as you have mine. Sounds like the next performance is starting, let's go see!"

Both Qiora and Yilzyss exit the carriage, and the carriage door snaps shut.
OOC:
@Rhograx - I had to push your performance to start after Qiora got her fortune told, since they had already entered the carriage.
Sep 4, 2016 2:00 pm
After hearing Rhograx play, Yilzyss claps enthusiastically, Nalu happily joins in, and even the large lizard opened an eye to pay attention to the music. Yilzyss abruptly starts to take notes in her book before giving him more praise.

"Amazing! That song put me in the mood for a great feast, it was so festive! I've got just the thing..."

The carriage shakes a bit, and one side opens up to reveal a sort of food cart. The inside is now furnished with a small stove and other cooking utensils. The carriage side functions as a sort of counter top to serve and eat food on.

"When I was up north, a monk taught me how to cook this noodle dish. Only those who his god deemed worthy could cook it correctly, and I think your performance earned you the right!"

It takes about 30 minutes for Yilzyss to teach Ghograx how to make the noodles, and there's plenty of food for everyone at the oasis to enjoy.

Rhograx gains the ability to cook 'Happy Monk's Noodles'. Anyone who eats the dish becomes more receptive to bardic songs (IE: They gain 1d8 from bardic inspiration instead of 1d6, etc). The food's effect only lasts a few hours after consumption, and only those with the blessing of the monk's god is able to cook it correctly (so it can't be taught).

Valrakas eats his share of the noodles with great relish and a loud belch afterwards. Then he tries to impress Yilzyss by juggling his sword and his dagger...

Valrakas manages to juggle the sharp objects without puncturing any eyes or lungs, and puts on a good display. Yilzyss seems to enjoy the show, as minotaurs aren’t especially known for their dexterity.

"What fun you are, I think I might start hiring some bulls in my establishments if they have skills like yours."

She turns back and rummages through a section of her wagon again, and emerges with a hunk of wood and an extremely sharp looking knife. She starts cutting off a few small slivers of the wood, but her speed quickly accelerates. Soon the hunk of wood is a blur of shavings and glints of light from the knife. When all is said and done, she reveals a fearsome looking mask. She offers the mask to Valrakas as a reward.

"Picked this up from vendor from the southeastern islands. It’s said that the warriors there wear masks like these and inject colored venom in their bodies to frighten their enemies. Pretty convincing, if you ask me."

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/92/ec/de/92ecde45995e16dc47427217b2741897.jpg

The mask gives the wearer +2 to any intimidation or animal handling check if the target is a smaller size than the user. IE: Valrakas gets +2 to scare children, but no bonus if he tries to scare an orc who’s the same size.
OOC:
Pssh, lizard lady. What gave you that idea.

At the first signs of morning, Yilzyss is already packed and ready to go. She hopped onto her carriage, told whoever was awake "I'm headed back home, maybe we'll see each other again some time!", and the large lizard hauled her off into the desert.

Nalu gave a sigh of relief after Yilzyss departed.

"I never did like lizards... We should get moving as well. I doubt the next few legs of the trip will be as peaceful."

Once everyone packed up their campsites and refilled their water supplies, the party prepared to depart the oasis. At the mouth of the cave, everyone was promptly greeted by a gust of wind that could shred skin. Nalu hastily wrapped cloth around himself and made sure he was tied down to his beetle. If he got blown off there would be almost impossible to find him again. On the bright side, the winds aren't bad enough to cause a sandstorm yet.

Nalu shouts over the gust gust of wind, his voice slightly muffled.

"This is what I faced making the trip to your keep! Peat knows the way, just just stick with us!"

The party manages to endure trekking for hours though strong winds. You guys also avoided without getting lost or sidetracked on the journey to the Kamatayan Forest, Nalu's home. Eventually a fairly narrow mountain pass emerges from the horizon, finally some shelter from this damn sand. You barely manage to hear Nalu's voice through the whipping wind.

"--through that mountain! We need to get though it before we set up camp!"

Once the group makes it to the rocky cliffs, you are able to hear normally again. It's not really a mountain more than it is a huge pile of jagged rocks that have somehow jutted from the earth. It looks razor sharp in some areas, yet smooth on others. The pass is about four bodies across, the natural walls are as high as any tower in a castle, and your feet easily sink into the sand that covers the ground. There are plenty of signs that show this passage way is fairly well traveled.
Oct 13, 2016 3:54 pm
Qiora assesses how much sunlight is left in the day. "How long is this mountain pass? Will we make it through before dusk?"
Oct 16, 2016 1:48 am

"We should make it though before nightfall, it's not an ideal place to set up camp. Peat here is scared of getting stepped on by some pack animal."

Rhograx's booming voice reverberates across the rocky walls for a few seconds before they dissipate. Stealth checks are now at a disadvantage, but maybe you managed to scare off some of the wildlife? In any case, the party starts to head through the narrow pass, with Nalu and Qiora on point.

...

The passage is mostly straight, but occasionally there is a bend or a large fallen rock in the way. At a certain point it opens up into a large area. Thanks to Qiora's keen senses, she immediately notices a party of half-orcs headed in the opposite direction! They seem to be talking about what they are going to do when they arrive into 'town'... or something like that. They look pretty rugged, and might be mercenaries.

"Well met, my dear. Are you and your beast out for a walk?"

The one with the poleaxe snickers, but the scarred one keeps his eyes trained on Valrakas's hands.

"Well met!" replies Qiora in greeting. "Indeed, it's a wonderful day for a journey and taking in the sights! Where are you and your dashing band of musicians headed off to?"
Oct 19, 2016 5:54 pm
Valrakas, who stands a few paces behind Qiora (at least 20ft from the nearest half-orc), stands with his arms crossed, grinning. His weapons remain in their sheaths. Anyone who knows anything about minotaurs knows that even without weapons to hand, members of that race are never truly unarmed.

Oct 20, 2016 12:44 pm
With that roll you deftly climb the walls and find a nice vantage point. You can see the whole area from up there.

Nalu is able to lay low (not that it's hard with how small he is) next to the cliff near Rhograx. He looks pretty frightened, and is muttering something.

...

Meanwhile with Qiora and Valrakas, the pleasant conversation continues. The handsome half-orc laughs.

"We play these metal instruments strapped to our sides, our gigs pay pretty well but our audience hardly ever asks for an encore! We're headed towards Ginko's Court, maybe you and your friend should come with us?"
Oct 20, 2016 3:52 pm
"Ooo, Ginko's Court sounds like a marvelous place," says Qiora. "We're actually checking out a forest, which I hear is lovely this time of year, and I hope to find some truffles that my friend here likes to have with his dinner. But I'd love to learn more about Ginko's Court. Is it far? What sort of exotic place is it?"

To both Qiora and Valrakas, these half-orcs look like they could be brothers. The one watching Valrakas suddenly shifts his attention to the background, and he easily spots Nalu and Rhograx. Kyros managed to slip behind some cover at the last second.

"They're ambushing us!"

All three unsheathe their weapons, making that cool 'schwing' sound. The handsome one looks a little sad, but he points the tip of his longsword towards Qiora nevertheless.

"Thought you could sneak one past us, eh? Bards are always full of it!"

...

Rhograx silently curses himself for hiding on the wrong side of the rock, but he does notice something about the area. As his boot sinks into the sand, it reveals some spherical objects... insect eggs?

When it is my turn in initiative, I'd like to cast Bardic inspiration on Valrakas, saying "Feel the snake bite enter your veins!"

I'd like to cast Bane on the three Orcs. DC of 13

Bardic Inspiration:
You can inspire others through stirring words or music. To do so, you use a bonus action on your turn to choose one creature other than yourself within 60 feet of you who can hear you. That creature gains one Bardic Inspiration die, a d6.

Once within the next 10 minutes, the creature can roll the die and add the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes. The creature can wait until after it rolls the d20 before deciding to use the Bardic Inspiration die, but must decide before the GM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. Once the Bardic Inspiration die is rolled, it is lost. A creature can have only one Bardic Inspiration die at a time.

Bane:
Up to three creatures of your choice that you can see within range must make Charisma saving throws. Whenever a target that fails this saving throw makes an attack roll or a saving throw before the spell ends, the target must roll a d4 and subtract the number rolled from the attack roll or saving throw.

Qiora tries to deflect the situation into something a little less combative. "Ambush? No no, my companions are simply demonstrating their remarkable athleticism, hoping to impress you. The minotaur and myself have no need for such theatrics, of course, but what can I say? Those guys must think you're very special if they're trying to perform for your entertainment. Why don't we all put away our weapons and return to a civilized and... pleasurable conversation?"

The handsome one listens to Qiora for a moment, but still keeps his guard up.

"You definitely aren't looking for truffles with that kind of gear. I don't like liars, but I'll try not to cut your face.

In the back, Kyros notices that Nalu is frozen in fear, but is looking straight at the sand instead of the half-orcs.

OOC:
Half-orc's turn. Due to reckless attack, attacks against Valrakas also have advantage until his next turn, right?
The scarred half-orc picks up Handsome's sword and throws it to him, and then escapes the fray to climb the rock wall to his rear. (Valrakas can use his reaction to take an attack, with all his rage/reckless bonuses) He manages to get halfway up, put grabs onto a loose rock and nearly falls down. He'll but stuck there until his next turn.

The average one screams at Valrakas, and slashes his his poleaxe. Kyros looses his arrow immediately, and nails the half-orc in the thigh. The blade connects, and gashes Valrakas across his side.

"You bastards!"

Lastly, the handsome one catches his blade in midair and rushes past the Valrakas to get to Qiora. (Valrakas can also take a reaction here, if he didn't attack the scarred one.) He attacks Qiora with a quick downward slash, but doesn't aim for any vital points.

...

At the end of the first round, Nalu and Peat come frantically charging into the fray.

Meanwhile, the bottom ankheg stares hungrily at the pint-sized Nalu. Peat's dung beetle senses were tingling (readied action to gtfo with Nalu if needed), and he immediately flees by squeezing inside a crack of one the boulders. From his precarious vantage point, the scarred half-orc can see the tide of battle. He jumps down ungracefully, but the sand cushions his fall. His voice sounds rough, probably caused by whatever gave him that scar on his neck.

"Kill the bugs first, we'll have to finish this squabble another day!"
OOC:
Had to look up what happens in a tie. If your attack/save is equal to the AC/DC, then the roll succeeds.

"Urrk, okay you run... along. Kill the bugs? Okay, at least they make my brain melt."

"Tsk. Woulda been more fun fighting the bull."

His attack merely bounces off hard carapace.

"Damn bug, I'm gonna kill you twice as hard now!"

Lastly, the one with the scars takes two shots at the left ankheg. Both shots are from the crossbows attached to his hip by slings. One arrow hits, puncturing a hole in the ankheg.

Qiora continues her withdrawal away from the ankheg. When she nears the rock wall, she turns and readies her sling. "Oy! Half-man!" she calls out to Mr Handsome. "Let's get rid of these things together and then go our separate ways, eh?"

She looks at the nearest ankheg clawing at Nalu and Peat, and intones a Vicious Mockery, "Bug face, a maggot's got more value than you!"

Seeing Valrakas surrounded on all sides, Qiora decides to inspire the minotaur with a melody (1d6).

You got this feeling inside your bones. It goes electric, wavy when you turn it on.
All through this mountain, all through this stage, you're flying up, no ceiling, when you're on the rage.

You got that bloodshed in your pocket, knock those good souls to your feet.
Feel that hot blood in their bodies when it drops, ooo!
I can't take my eyes up off it, you move so phenomenally. Go on lock the way you rock it, so don't stop!

And under the sun where everything goes... Nowhere to hide, you're getting so close...

The bottom ankheg takes a beating as Kyros's arrow, Qiora's spell, and Valrakas's horns all hit. Valrakas's horns don't manage to puncture the ankheg, but Kyros's arrow lodges itself firmly into the monster's back.

The bottom ankheg triumphantly resists Qiora's mockery, and give a hiss a disapproval at Qiora. "How dare you insult such a majestic creature?" it seems to say. It's victory is short lived, however, as Valrakas's shove sends it flying towards the wall. It takes some force damage for failing so hard.

Rhograx's aims his shatter spell at the top ankheg, next to the other two half-orcs (It's that orange circle on the map). The scarred half-orc shields his ears in time, but the other two take the full brunt of the spell.

The half-orc with scars seems annoyed at the handsome one.

"Focus on one at a time, Ro get over here!"

Handsome gingerly sidesteps the ankheg who is attacking the sand, and starts to attack the top ankheg. As he slices up the bug, the half-orc currently being chewed on tries to break free. He fails spectacularly, and ends up dropping his weapon in the fray.

"Damnit, get me out of here!"

Lastly, the scarred half-orc pulls out his longbow (looks like he still has a heavy crossbow and some javelins left) and takes two quick shots.

Nalu is revived by Rhograx's spell! Nalu quickly bolts upright, and drags Peat off to a safe are to administer first-aid (insect first-aid).

The bottom ankheg dodges the arrow and sling bullet, and hisses angrily in response. Qiora's shot bounces off the wliff walls, causing a few small rocks to fall harmlessly to the ground.

The bottom ankheg gets slammed into the wall by Valrakas even though it's much larger, but immediately attempts to bite him. It succeeds, and Valrakas finds himself grappled by the monster's mandibles (DC 13 to escape). In addition to being grappled, the ankheg's bite deals 14 slashing and acid damage.

The left ankheg finishes attack the sand, and looks satisfied with the damage it's done so far. It starts to look around for more targets.

The top ankheg takes another chomp out of the half-orc and barely through his armor and flailing arms.

2d6+3 : (23) + 3 = 8

1d6 : (4) = 4

Nov 8, 2016 11:07 am
The half-orc who is being grappled is clearly hurt, and he makes one last attempt to break free. He manages to wedge a hand inside the beasts mouth to pry the jaws open, but he keeps stretching the mandibles wider and wider until it's head splits. The ankheg's body spasms for a minute, but it eventually comes to rest. The heavily damaged half-orc is barely standing, but he has a victorious grin on his face.

"Haaah... I killed you... killed you dead."

The half-orc with scars turns his attention to the bottom ankheg, and moves into position to take a shot with his heavy crossbow. The bolt whizzes right past both Valrakas's and the ankheg's heads, surprising both of them. The scarred half-orc makes a "tsk", and decides to throw a javelin since he can't reload the crossbow in time. Much like the bolt, the spear also whizzes past the minotaur and the bug's heads (but on the other side this time) and embeds itself in the rock.

The handsome half-orc makes a dash in order to distract the left ankheg. He distracts it by stabbing it with his sword, but only gets one good attack off.

Roaring with rage, Valrakas rips his way out of the ankheg's mandibles. Then putting his full weight and power behind his horns he rams the ankheg yet again, trying to reduce it to a smear on the rock wall.

Kyros's arrow shoots through the air in a low arc, and strikes the ankheg right in the back of it's head. The monster slumps down the the ground, and doesn't get up again.

Combat is over. Each member of the party gets 420 XP for routing the enemy, as well as for the small fight with the half-orcs. As an added bonus, you'll all remember what an ankheg nest looks like.

After the battle, the half-orcs gather their weapons and clean themselves off. There doesn't seem to be any animosity between them and the party anymore. Sometimes a good fight is needed to clear the air.

Nalu is finishes taking care of Peat, and waits in the center of the passage across from the half-orcs.

While you gather your gear and tend to any wounds, you can overhear their conversation.

"We're lucky this fight didn't go sour."

"Y-you jumped to conclusions, it could've killed us all!"

"I already apologized! Besides, we all survived in the end~"

"I just want some ale, or wine, or a few shots of a strange potion..."

Nov 9, 2016 5:23 pm
"Stand down!" Qiora orders, trying to brush sand and grime off her clothes. She removes her hat to slap it against her hip, dusting it off. She approaches and looks to the half-orcs. "Please forgive my giant friend here; the battle has his adrenaline up and it takes a long time for his fire to abate.

"Your bravery and prowess are worthy of such stories!"
continues Qiora. "I think we were all impressed with how well you fought, and I do not doubt that a round of the finest ale is deserved.

"How are we doing, people?"
Qiora places her hat upon her head, brim tipped at a jaunty angle, and looks back at her companions, assessing their condition.

@Kyros - You certainly can. Valrakas can roll with advantage if you help him out.
The half-orcs do have their weapons sheathed, and look ready to continue their travels once any misunderstandings are cleared up. The average one looks pretty beat up, but the other two aren't damaged too much.
Nov 10, 2016 8:16 am
Valrakas puts his horns up but doesn't stop glaring at everything.

With that Nat 20 I guess the bardic inspiration is unnecessary. Valrakas is trying to intimidate them into telling the truth, or even help us.

Rhograx slips over to Nalu, "How much longer do we have to go and how dangerous is it. I'd like a rest if it's long and rough."
Nov 11, 2016 1:24 am
The half-orcs respond immediately, very threatened by Valrakas's horns and Kyros's bow. The handsome one holds up his hands in submission, but you can tell they'd still fight if you pushed to far.

"You got us, big guy. We're not musicians, we're recon for the raiders at Ginko's Court. We check things out, then Ginko makes the plans."

...

In a side conversation, Nalu answers Rhograx.

"Only about an hour left to get out of this pass. On the other side I was planning on camping near the cliff's edge, it's easy to hide there. This area becomes...active at night, so we shouldn't stay."
Nov 11, 2016 2:28 am
Qiora pats Valrakas on the hip. "You're so very insightful!" she says in mock surprise and awe.

To the half-orcs, Qiora gestures northward. "I am very interested in hearing what you've found on your reconnaissance. In exchange, I offer word that there is a terrible sandstorm to the south, the way you are headed. You would be wise to exercise caution when you make to leave this pass. And if that is not enough..."

The bard indicates the average-looking one. "I will tend to your injuries. It is the least I can do for this... misunderstanding."
Nov 11, 2016 2:56 am
The average one nods.

"If you're headed for the forest you're going to run into a large area of quicksand, supposedly there's a a river under the ground there."

The one with scars jumps in.

"Yes, but it's easy enough to cross. There's large spires of rock, and there's makeshift bridges that connect them all.

Nalu nods in agreement, and average one continues.

"We spotted a group of idiots setting up camp on the rocks, I guess they want to live up there and charge travelers a toll to cross. Other than that we didn't find anything other than old caravan tracks."
Nov 11, 2016 3:06 am
Qiora casts Cure Wounds on the average-looking half-orc.
Nov 11, 2016 7:33 am
Qiora's sarcasm is completely lost on Valrakas. He grins at her "compliment."

Once satisfied that the half-orcs and her party are okay, Qiora looks to the sky to determine what time it is. She asks Nalu, "Is it much farther to an area to make camp? Do you think we have enough time to dig into this burrows for whatever the ankhegs left behind?"
Nov 13, 2016 10:14 am
"We should make it out in an hour, and we'll set up camp there. Um, I don't think digging around out here will lead to anything worthwhile. Maybe a half eaten carcass? The ankhegs dissolve their prey, like that rock over there."

He points to the sizzling, green pool of acid that almost killed him.
Nov 13, 2016 4:36 pm
"Is that where those 'idiots' are setting up camp, too?" Qiora asks, referring to the half-orc's report and Nalu's knowledge of the area.
Nov 13, 2016 6:01 pm
"Let's move already!" Valrakas turns to the half-orcs,"Ye lads joinin' us, or we partin' ways here?"
Nov 13, 2016 10:56 pm
Rhograx looks to see if any of the eggs are still intact. If so, he wants to gather some.
Nov 14, 2016 10:32 am
There are three round eggs you can take, just gotta wipe some of the gunk off first.

The handsome half-orc laughs at Valrakas's suggestion.

"No way, we're heading for a relatively safer area of this deadly desert."
OOC:
Let me know when you want to resume travel
Nov 15, 2016 12:49 am
Rhograx collects the eggs and waits patiently to move on.
Nov 15, 2016 12:58 am
Valrakas grunts in response to the half-orc. He looks at Nalu expectantly. "Well c'mon, laddie. Lead the way."

Qiora blows a kiss to handsome half-orc, primping her hair and waving farewell.

Nov 15, 2016 10:18 am
OOC:
Ah, somehow overlooked your question to Nalu
The party resumes their journey between the cliff walls. I looks as if the mountains were crashing into each other, or maybe they were split apart by something. You wouldn't be surprised if there was a massive sword at the other end of it all. The wind whistles loudly overhead, but it dies down the further you go.

"N-no, we aren't going to camp by the sand river, it's about 5 hours away. We'll exit this passage, and camp along side it's cliffs."
Nov 15, 2016 11:47 am
After a slightly uncomfortable march through the rest of the passage (well maybe just for Valrakas since he got cut up) the party pops out on the other side of the cliffs. The lands out here are much more flat, but you can see some dark landmarks on the horizon. The sun has already set, casting a purple light across the whole desert. After about thirty minutes of hiking, Nalu finds campsite that is shielded from the elements.

"We'll be safe here, it's easy to blend in back here."

Peat finds a comfortable patch of sand, and lays down to rest. Poor guy has been through a lot today. Nalu sets up his small sleeping arrangement as well, and eats a small travel ration while watching the rest of the party.

"Uhm, you guys are strong, Lady Tsira wasn't lying! Those half-orcs had good teamwork though... no way I could take them. Some of the soldiers back home might have stood a chance though."
OOC:
This is a long rest! Recharge spell slots, prepare stuff, do the hitpoint thing, etc. Also, Rhograx are you going to keep the eggs warm at night, or will you let them cool off?
Nov 15, 2016 4:04 pm
"Tell us about your community," Qiora says to Nalu. She summons her Unseen Servant to prepare the campfire and set up amenities, primarily so the bard doesn't have to.
Nov 16, 2016 2:38 am
Rhograx carefully keeps the eggs pointing the same way he had found them and lowers them to the ground between him and the fire trying to keep them nice and warm.
Nov 16, 2016 9:18 am
"I know a lot about the history! It used to be brimming with magic. Treants controlled a majority of the land, but now there's just Fibrosa. The elder fey follow her, and the rest of the fey follow the elders. Everyone is given a specific task to carry out depending on their skills."

Nalu takes another bite and starts to count on his fingers.

"There's soldiers, alchemists, witches, thought guards, hunters, servants, and builders! I'm part of the servants, but I don't mind because I get to help the forest grow. Although, the forest has been struggling as of late. That's what has most fey on edge, and the myconids showing up just made things worse..."
Nov 16, 2016 3:46 pm
Qiora pens a few notes in her journal. "Fibrosa is a treant, you say? What are they like?"
Nov 17, 2016 6:25 am
Nalu thinks for a moment, then responds.

"Well I've only ever known Fibrosa, all the other treants went away. Her roots are deep, and she can sense just about anything in the lands she controls. She's very strict, and can't stand it when someone does something without her knowledge. She's also pretty picky about what lives inside the forest, from what I hear."
Nov 17, 2016 6:40 am
"I see. And she does know that we're on our way to help, yes? That you went to seek such help?"
Nov 17, 2016 6:41 am
"Oh, yes! I was told it was her idea in the first place. No way the elders would've done it behind her back!"
Nov 17, 2016 4:39 pm
"What did Fibrosa have to say about your myconid threat?"
Nov 17, 2016 5:13 pm
"Sounds like this Fibrosa runs a tight ship! Heh."
Nov 18, 2016 12:53 am
"Have you seen this, Fibrosa lately?"
Nov 18, 2016 11:28 am
Nalu struggles a little to answer everyone's questions.

"Ah, well she wants to move them somewhere else I think. She can be strict, but she's trying to preserve the forest in the middle of a wasteland. Though it's not as bad out here as you'd think... Seen her? Someone as low as me wouldn't be granted an audience, but I did hear her voice when the elders told me about my mission".
Nov 21, 2016 12:22 pm
OOC:
Anything else on your mind? Make some battle plans or make bracelets, perhaps?
Nov 21, 2016 3:30 pm
Qiora finally asks Nalu, "Have you personally seen the myconids?"
Nov 21, 2016 10:49 pm
"Personally? No... But I know we've got guards posted to ensure no one accidentally wanders near the cave the are living in."
Nov 21, 2016 10:58 pm
Qiora nods. "Ahh, so they're only in one location? Good to know. Thank you, Nalu."
Nov 25, 2016 6:43 am
Rhograx pulls out his statuette, keeping it covered and begins playing with it, trying to record different sounds and playing them back.

The next morning the party sets off a little before the sun rises, headed to the forest in the south west. The trip is about four hours of dull, sandy landscape. There's something in the sand here that makes compasses go crazy, and the whipping wind makes it easy to get lost. Thankfully, Peat's dung beetle senses keep the party traveling in a straight line. Eventually, the sound of rushing water and sand can be heard. Nalu takes everyone up on a good vantage point, and removes his goggles.

"These are the quicksands. Do you see the bridges connecting those rocks? It takes about two hours to make it across."

It's a massive, untameable deluge of sand. It looks like it's a few miles wide, and there's no way to tell the depth. Just like a normal river, there are areas of calm and rapid waters. There are also vortexes of sand that look positively deadly. The only safe areas seem to be the spears of black rock that jut out in the middle of the sands, and the rocky areas on the coast that haven't been eroded away.

"These rocks actually have ancient runes on them that protect from the sand. It is said that the fey and the yaun-ti worked together to build them a long time ago."
Nov 27, 2016 11:15 pm
"Any, unapparent dangers we should know about. You know, like sand worms, or the likes?"
Nov 28, 2016 8:03 am
Nalu gives Rhograx a quizzical look.

"There are sandworms, but they are smaller than me, so they aren't an issue. There's not really anything living inside the quicksands, on the surface anyway."
Nov 28, 2016 2:42 pm
Qiora checks her pack. "Anyone have rope? Perhaps if we tie ourselves to each other, we stand less risk of falling in." She looks apprehensively at the swirling sand below.
Nov 28, 2016 2:48 pm
"Aye, I've got rope." Valrakas says. He slings his shield onto his back and unstraps a 50-foot coil of strong, lightweight rope from his pack.
Nov 28, 2016 2:59 pm
I have some to if we need it
Nov 28, 2016 9:42 pm
OOC:
Does the bridge have sides, or is it open sided?
Nov 28, 2016 10:08 pm
Some parts of the bridge are better than others. It's mostly open sided, and sometime the pathway diverges.
Nov 29, 2016 11:50 am
"Rope is a good idea. It's really the current that will get you, as there's no real way to drown."

Finding it hard to explain, Nalu takes the party down to a solid, rocky part of the 'coast'. One of the bridges that span across the river also starts here.

"Pick up one of these rocks and throw it into the quicksands, you'll see what I mean!"
Nov 29, 2016 12:43 pm
Intrigued, Valrakas does as Nalu suggests: he picks up a good-sized stone and tosses it into the flowing sands.

Valrakas throws the rock into the sand, and it lands with a satisfying PLUNK. Instead of sinking, however, the rock quickly shoots back up to the surface and continues floating downstream.

"The alchemists are better at explaining, but things can float in the sands really well!"

That being said, the rock is moving at a really rapid pace and it slams into some of the black spires. Eventually it gets sucked into a hidden vortex, which was impossible to get out of regardless of the water's buoyancy.
Nov 30, 2016 12:36 pm
Valrakas, who is most at home sailing on the water, scowla darkly at the strange "river" of sand. "I don't trust it."
Nov 30, 2016 4:17 pm
"Do we have enough rope to secure everybody?" asks Qiora, quickly tearing her eyes away from the rock's fate in the vortex.
Nov 30, 2016 5:02 pm
"Aye, it should be enough." Valrakas, a sailor all his life, ties the knots expertly, securing everyone to the lifeline.
Dec 1, 2016 9:03 am
Nalu takes the tethered group down the only bridge entrance in sight. Whatever magic that keeps the stones from eroding also seems to be affecting this part of the bridge, as it looks pretty sturdy. It's not windy today, but it is a bit unnerving to hear the constant grinding of sand.
OOC:
So these bridges are about 10~15 feet wide on average, so two people can comfortably walk side-by-side. What's your party formation going to be? Nalu is small enough to fit between two people.

@Rhograx - Will you keep the eggs tightly secured, or give them some wiggle room? You can treat each egg differently.

OOC:
Scared of bridges? Kyros has a mysterious past.
The party begins the trip in the following order: Nalu/Valrakas, Qiora, Rhograx/Kyros. It takes a bit of time for everyone's pace to even out, as there's a pretty big height difference between everyone. The first section of bridges are so sturdy that you sometimes forget that there's a rushing tide of sand beneath your feet.

However, the party encounters it's first road block. A steep staircase that rides up one of the black spires, and at the top is a narrow ledge that one must sidle around to reach the other side. Nalu and Peat and natural flying and climbing ability, but everyone else must make an acrobatics check. Climbing is also possible, but it'll be more difficult.
OOC:
DC 15 for the balance check, DC 20 for climbing the sharp rocks. It is possible to help each other, but someone has to make it across first.

It is possible to do things that will lower the DC, but I won't tell you my ideas because that would be cheating! :P

Edit: If I didn't make it clear, you can do one OR the other. No need to roll both.

Dec 5, 2016 3:22 am
OOC:
@Rhograx - Valrakas already had a bardic inspiration die, so it'll go to Qiora. If she rolls higher than a 3, she'll make it!
Valrakas wings it, and jumps up on the rock in an attempt to climb over it. However, the rock is jagged and there aren't many footholds. His grip slips, and he topples over the edge into the sand. He's quickly caught in the current, but the rope enures he doesn't get washed away.

Qiora was about halfway up when Valrakas fell, but she has time to make it across before the rope yanks her in as well. (Gonna let you roll the bardic inspiration before we see what happens.

Kyros and Rhograx are stuck waiting in line, but they have a chance to help out Valrakas and Qiora. They could help pull the minotaur back in, or maybe use some equipment to make the climb easier.

@Kyros - Roll me athletics, with advantage since Rhograx is there as an anchor.
@Qiora you can give me an athletics check as well, or a DEX check to help better position the rope.
Qiora nimbly navigates the small ledge and makes it safely to the other side. She immediately notices that Valrakas had plummeted into the quicksands, and instinctively grabs the rope he's attached to. However, the minotaur is entirely too heavy for the halfling to heft up, and the rope rapidly slides out of her palms. She manages to keep her hands around the rope temporarily, but earns a few burns in the process.

If Valrakas is back safely, Rhograx has an idea. If not, he will help pull. Are there any rocks around?
Dec 6, 2016 8:38 am
Valrakas easily stays afloat in the sand, but has difficulty fighting against the current. Qiora manages to position herself as a sort of halfling-pully system, which should hold out temporarily. Luckily, Kyros's surprising strength quickly hauls Valrakas back to the bridge. It all happened so fast that Qiora only suffered mild discomfort from the constricting rope.

There is one loose rock laying near the bridge, it's about the size of a shield. There's also the main rock spire (the thing you are trying to navigate around), however the runes protecting it might make it impossible to nail anything to it.

Not being able to hep due his size, Nalu watched everything transpire in fear.

"P-please be careful! Ooh, I wish I knew the levitate spell.."

Valrakas and Rhograx begin to tug at the rope, but they both suddenly feel zero resistance on the other side. This is because Kyros had begin climbing the rock in spectacular fashion. His fingertips seem to dance up the wall, and he even does a handstand at the top. After holding the handstand for a few seconds, he does a half-turn and lets himself plummet to the bottom--evoking a gasp from the group. At the last moment up pulls his legs inwards and lands neatly on his feet.
OOC:
You can give me a CHR save (DC 10) to not gasp in awe of Kyro's stunt! :P

In the distance, Qiora and Valrakas can see some figures on the horizon. It looks like three of the bridges spanning the river come in close proximity with each other, with the party's bridge running down the middle. It appears there are individuals camped out on the flanking bridges, and there seems to be a network of masts and pulleys that are tied down onto the rocks. Frankly, they look like sand pirates. The smell of sulfur in the air must be caused by some sort of explosive.

The heat must be getting to Kyros, because he sees a mirage in the distance. Two pirate boats being manned by VERY attractive tieflings.

They haven't seen the party yet, so there's some time to strategize.
OOC:
So swimming across the sand is a DC 13 upstream, and going downstream is a DC 10 to grab onto something. It's broad daylight out, so stealth will be tricky. You could also talk to them, but they seem like very stereotypical pirates.
Dec 12, 2016 1:46 pm
I spy some unsavory types straddlin yon bridges. says Valrakas, squinting into the distance. Privateers, I reckon. Could be trouble, aye.

They are about 100 feet away, and it looks like there's around five bodies on each side. There could be more in some of the makeshift houses on build around the rocks.

"Should we storm in, or take a dip? I'm up for either!"
Dec 14, 2016 6:10 pm
Qiora folds her arms across her chest in thought. "I'm usually one to try and avoid violence," she says. "I suggest we try to talk to them, but I would love a plan for if that fails and we must defend ourselves."

OOC:
How wide is the bridge where we will meet them?
"I might have an idea...." Rhograx says smirking.
Dec 15, 2016 8:02 am
OOC:
Your bridge is about 15ft wide, and the two flanking bridges are 40ft wide (with all the extra construction). The distance between each bridge is about 10ft at the closest point.
Dec 19, 2016 12:48 am
Unless someone wants to stop him, Rhograx walks right up in between the two sides and says, "Well met chaps, out for a stroll I am. Looking to head up the way yonder. I'm a bit tired and hungry. Care to share some food, or shall I just be on my way?"
Dec 19, 2016 5:19 am
Qiora mutters, "I was waiting for him to tell us his idea." She settles back to watch Rhograx work.
Dec 19, 2016 11:44 am
As Rhograx makes his way down the bridge, he discovers that the inhabitants are actually kobolds. A lot of them. Strangely enough, one side wears primarily orange clothing, while the other wears blue. Rhograx's arrival causes much chatter, and anyone listening can tell that they all speak in Draconic.

From the blue side there comes a shout "TOLL, PAY THE TOLL!".

And from the orange side "NO, PAY OUR TOLL! GIVE IT TO US!".

Both sides appear armed with cannons, boats, and grappling hooks.
OOC:
Note: if you don't know Draconic, then it just seems like a bunch of angry kobolds yell about something. It's safe to assume they want a toll though, since that's what the half-orcs told you.
Dec 19, 2016 4:51 pm
"I think he's doing well," Qiora says to the others. "He's certainly got them excited."
Dec 19, 2016 7:29 pm
Aye, lass. I was waitin' t' hear his idea too. Ye think we should back 'im up?
Dec 19, 2016 11:14 pm
Speaking his native tongue draconic, "Here, here good chaps, now how can I pay a toll to both of you? It's not possible, the toll can only go to one side as one cannot cut a toll in half, hat would just be crazy! Now, who would be the stronger of your two groups? That would be the ones that should get the toll if I am not mistaken." Rhograx looks from leader to leader on both sides.

The kobolds listen intently, Since Rhograx is the largest lizard-person they've ever seen. Both sides were already fighting before, but his words have incited them even further. Cannons are lined up on either side, grappling hooks are thrown, and small boats are readied. These bridges are about to become a warzone, and the party is right in the middle of it all.
OOC:
If you attempt to make a mad dash across the bridge, I'll roll a dice to determine what will happen. The fighting will soon reach you regardless, but you have time to plan something. Rhograx gets one off the bat, since he's standing in the middle of it all.

Tadaa, a table!

2. A kobold mistakes you for an enemy.
3. You're suddenly snared by a boat's lasso, make a STR save.
4. A loose piece of cargo lands in front of you. It's a medium sized mystery box.
5. A volley of arrows rains down upon you.
6. You find yourself in a good spot to make a sneak attack, which side do you support?
7. A boarding plank lands near you, but there's no one on it. Do you board one of the other bridges?
8. A captain starts a duel with you!

@Rhograx - Roll a d8, please!
Dec 21, 2016 3:55 pm
"Uh... did he just incite a riot?" asks Qiora, now fully attentive to the activity going on around them. "Let's get out of here!" She looks behind them to see if there's any cover available amongst the rocks.

The Blue Captain actually manages to deflect Valrakas's attack with is shield, guess he's captain for a reason. Valrakas successfully shoves him off the bridge, but the kobold's surprising gymnastic ability allowed him stay on the bridge (He bounced off the ropes like a WWE wrestler). The Blue Captain gives Valrakas a smirk, and is promptly electrocuted by the static buildup in the air (6). After he recovers, he attempts to slash at Valrakas - but only hits the air.

Nalu and Peat make a dash to make it across, but their small statue does not go unnoticed by the kobolds. An orange pirate on a rather unsafe looking boat manages to lasso Nalu, and pulls him right off of Peat! The boat is headed downstream, so it quickly zooms away. Left without his buddy, Peat wisely scampers underneath the bridge to plan his next move.

It looks like the boat that nabbed Nalu is making a wide turn, and the kobold will slowly row it back towards his side of the bridge. Peat carefully positions himself on the trajectory of the boat, so he attack while it passes under.

The Orange Captain boldly stares down Qiora... and while the spell does it's damage (7), the kobold remains stalwart. Guess he was also a captain for good reason. He spins his dagger and makes two thrust attacks but only one connects. He proudly pats his colored clothing and speaks to Qiora.

"My good looksss never go out of ssstyle!"

(@Kyros - That would be Qiora, she's the closest)

A volley of crossbow shots, arrows, and slung rocks bombards Kyros's position, but he manages to cleanly duck out of the way. After recovering, he takes a shot at the Orange Captain. The arrow barely manages to hit the slippery kobold. (Roll damage, please. You interrupted their duel! :P)

Thunderwave
A wave of thunderous force sweeps out from you. Each creature in a 15 foot Cube originating from youmust make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 2d8 thunder damage and is pushed 10 feet away from you. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn’t pushed.

In addition, unsecured objects that are completely within the area of effect are automatically pushed 10 feet away from you by the spell’s effect, and the spell emits a thunderous boom audible out to 300 feet.

OOC:
No reason to roll for those kobold, since even half the damage will kill them. @Valrakas - So a creature can fight against a shove using acrobatics, who knew?
Rhograx's spell goes off, and every kobold around him is flung off the bridge in a thunderous boom.

Rhograx earns 150 XP for routing his enemies!

Valrakas's enemy proves to be a nimble foe, as it avoids every attack and shoving attempt by flipping around the minotaur. The static in the air still does some damage, but the kobold manages to avoid any direct hits. Valrakas blocks one attack with his shield, but is too slow to block the second slash aimed at his leg.

Qiora's is having similar struggles with her opponent. The Orange Captain yanks out the arrow lodged in his shoulder, and gives her a nasty look. Seeing that it is now two on one, he disengages from the fight.

"You ssshould train more inssstead of playing dressssup, little girl."

After taking a few steps back, holds the dagger in his mouth, and dives straight into the quicksand! The current quickly sweeps him away, but you think he's headed for another bridge or boat. At least you got a new sword out of the fight...

Meanwhile, Peat drops on top of the boat that snagged Nalu. He attempts to shove the kobold out of the boat by using his powerful dung beetle legs. However, the kobold on the boat has survived a few years of fighting on the quicksands, and is able to repel Peat. Peat is knocked back on his back, and is unable to flip himself back over. The kobold continues rowing back to the Orange Pirate's boat, slowly making progress against the current.
OOC:
Qiora, Rhograx, and Kyros are out of combat. There's still big pirate battle going on, but the kobolds mostly ignore anyone who isn't a pirate. It seems that reinforcements are coming in from further bridges, it would be a good idea to get out of here while you can.

Valrakas is still fighting the blue captain.

As far as positions are concerned: Rhograx is way in front, Valrakas is about 30 ft back from Rhograx, and Nalu is about 15 ft from Valrakas, and everyone else is about 10 ft from Nalu.

Peat struggles at first, but manages to get a good grip on a rock spire with his claw after Nalu helped out. After taking a short breather, the duo pull themselves up to the top of the bridge.

The last leg of the trip goes well, no giant bug attacks nor any sand pirates. The wasteland scenery slowly shifts to a slightly greener wasteland, and then finally a few shrubberies and trees start to appear. When the forest comes into view, it's definitely a unique sight that the artists of Genera would have never imagined. Orange sand blends into coarse, red grasses and brush. Strange, tall trees (Nalu called them 'Palm') and dry riverbeds cover the landscape, eagerly awaiting this year's rainfall. Animals either burrow, hide in the crags, or make nests inside the dead leaves of the palm trees.

If there were any sprite guards, they were well hidden. You don't see any of Nalu's kind until the party reaches a deeper section of the forest. Tiny villages dot the trees. Some of the fey boldly go about their business, while others hide themselves with camouflage and magic. Most of the fey that aren't hidden look completely plastered, as if they had spent the day drinking. At a certain point, a sort of greeting party waits for the group.

"Well met, brave warriors of Genera! I'm glad to see you have arrived safely. My name is Garlend, and I've been trusted to guide your stay here in the forest."

Nalu is quickly shooed away, and his presence is replaced by fairy guards mounted on magnificent looking foxes. They are tiny foxes, but they still look pretty regal. Nalu manages to spit out a farewell before he and Peat are herded away.

"Ah, g-goodbye!"

Garlend takes the party to a few huts made out of leaves and timber. There's a separate one for each person, with a leafy cot inside. It looks like the tiny fairies are setting up a dining table in the middle of the huts. A slight breeze rolls in, and most of the workers go haywire. A few backup workers pop out of a nearby tree-house to replace the ones affected by the hallucinogenics. The high fairies as whisked away for treatment.

Garlend sniffles a bit before addressing the party.

"The wind carries spores, and we're heavily affected due to our size. Makes it damn annoying to do anything, I've got to assign three workers for a single task. Please make yourself at home, dinner will be out shortly."

Valrakas and Rhograx start to feel really, REALLY good about the forest. It feels as though you've drank enough ale to become tipsy. The trees look nice, no monsters are attacking, and the air smells amazing. Is someone wearing perfume? Whatever it is, it's great!

On the other hand, Qiora is simply tired from a long day of travel. These quality of these huts falls far below any Generan inn.
Jan 10, 2017 12:47 pm
"I could get used to this, aye!" Valrakas leans against a hut, folding his arms behind his horned head. "Rhograx, me matey, 'ave I ever told ye yer th' most handsome scaly bastard I ever saw? Aye, mate. Second t'me, 'course! 'S true."
Jan 10, 2017 3:49 pm
Qiora asks Garlend, "How do you..." before stifling a yawn. "Mm, sorry. How do you treat those affected by spores? Have you found a means to filter them out, maybe with a mask or cloth around the nose and mm..." another yawn. "Mouth?"
Jan 11, 2017 1:53 am
Rhograx takes a long deep breathe and winks at Valrakas.
Jan 15, 2017 12:41 pm
OOC:
Sorry for not updating, work was killer this week.
Garlend replies to Qiora.

"Rags work somewhat. The most effective way right now is to avoid being outdoors."

...

After a short wait, the tables are finished and the pixies bring out plates of food. It's like a cornucopia of strangely shaped fruit, various maize dishes, and stewed root vegetables. For meat, there's grilled locus legs (about the size of a turkey drumstick), stuffed desert quail, and giant bat. As with most fey fare, there's about ten different sauces of differing tastes and hues to mix and match.

As they fairies bring out the food, they go out of their way to ensure that Valrakas does not even get a glimpse of the meat dishes. They wouldn't want to offend him, of course.

Garlend is absent at the start of the meal, he presumably went to go fetch Nalu and Peat.
Jan 15, 2017 1:10 pm
Valrakas would normally have been cranky at the absence of meat. But right now he's too high on the spores to harbor any ill feelings. He sits, heavy-lidded, happily munching away at the fruits and vegetables.
Jan 15, 2017 5:26 pm
Qiora nods, though it really looks like she is nodding off. She does not even seem interested in the feast before them. "That's good to know," she says, half-mumbling with heavy-lidded eyes. "Good to know that the spores don't go inside..."
Jan 16, 2017 11:08 pm
Rhograx tastes everything, savoring the intense flavors and the richness of the foods. Waving the locust leg towards Vikent, "Isn't all this food great?"
Jan 19, 2017 6:30 pm
Qiora falls silent during the meal, lacking the energy to think of or contribute to any conversation. She does not even deign to offer a performance.
Jan 19, 2017 6:59 pm
Valrakas blissfully munches on the most delicious celery stick ever.
Jan 19, 2017 9:39 pm
About halfway through the meal, Peat and Nalu arrive at the dinner table looking none the worse for wear. All of the other fairies had retreated inside once the dinner was started, as the spores in the air were simply too strong.

"Hello, mind if I join you all? The elders gave me instructions to relay to you all."
Jan 19, 2017 10:04 pm
Qiora briefly rouses herself at a new, yet familiar, voice addressing the group. She lazily waves for Nalu to join the group, and tries to listen.
Jan 20, 2017 9:12 am
Nalu takes a seat near Qiora and grabs a Nalu-sized portion of food.

"I'm pretty tired as well, can't believe we got attacked by kobold pirates earlier today... Uuh, anyway I guess the elders wanted you to meet with them in the morning, and then head to the most spore-filled area of the forest. I'll take you there, since everyone else just goes nutty in that area."

He manhandles a locus leg, takes a big bite, and speaks with his mouth still full of food..

"Garlend will be there too, he's actually a lot nicer after he breathes in the spores."
Jan 20, 2017 4:12 pm
"I can't remember who Garlend is," blinks Qiora, her mind muddled with exhaustion. "Do the spores make everyone feel nice? Is that what you mean by 'goes nutty?'" She glances over at Valrakas and Rhograx; they must be affected if that's the case, while Qiora herself must be immune. Yes, that's starting to make sense.
Jan 21, 2017 1:07 am
Rhograx shoves more food into his mouth and pulls out the fiddle, and begins strumming a tune.
Jan 26, 2017 10:21 pm
Rhograx starts to get a little sleepy and grabs a few more bits of food, "Are we to retire soon, or maybe just take a nap here?"
Jan 30, 2017 9:39 pm
Rhograx starts rubbing one of the eggs absentmindedly.
Feb 10, 2017 1:03 am

I'M ALIVE IN THIS THREAD TOO! I have the time to post/write normally again. Wew.
After everyone has eaten their fill, the party retires to their respective huts. The spores in the air made turned your memory of the night into a strange blur, but you can still remember most of what happened. In the morning everyone is refreshed, not hung-over, and no longer stoned.

The food table is still outside, but is filled with fruits and simple pastries instead of the meats from last night. There's also pitcher of water, wine, and some strange brown liquid. Garlend and Nalu are both seated at the table, greeting everyone as they wake up.

"Good morning!"
"We'll prepare to leave once you have eaten. It might be a long day."
OOC:
@Rhograx - Are you going to keep the eggs shielded from the light, or will you let them warm in the sun?
Feb 15, 2017 10:48 pm
"What is this brown liquid?" Rhograx drinks a mouthful of the liquid. He also adjusts the straps on his pack so two eggs are in full sun.
Feb 16, 2017 8:33 am
The brown liquid is bitter and gritty, like there's sand inside. It smells strongly of malt and earth, but still tastes delicate.

"It's called 'kape', it'll help you focus and stay awake!"

"It also fills you up with excess urine, and if you drink too much you'll be twitchy."
Feb 16, 2017 12:47 pm
Valrakas tries the steaming brown drink, smiles, and finishes it, and slams his cup down on the table. "Har! I LIKE IT! Another!"
[ +- ] Whoa!
Feb 16, 2017 4:39 pm
Open to new experiences, Qiora samples a cup. "I do hope there will be a potty break before our meeting!"
Feb 18, 2017 11:53 am
After the party eats their fill of the exotic breakfast, Garlend and Nalu escort the group into a thicker cluster of trees. It's only about a 15 minute walk, and you can tell that you are headed towards the center of the pixie's strange city. More and more tiny villiages appear in the treetops as you travel further and further inwards.

Eventually your two escorts stop at a massive stump, it must be seven or eight wagons wide! There are guards posted everywhere around the stump, as if Fibrosa was expecting an enemy army to invade. Garlend's stern voice breaks the silence.

"'Right, here we are. The outer chamber will probably be full of gawkers, but the inner chamber will just be Fibrosa and the Elders. Make yourselves presentable, Fibrosa controls every inch of this forest."
OOC:
You'll be heavily scrutinized when you are inside. If you wanted to try something tricky or sneaky, now is the time to set it up!
Feb 18, 2017 6:22 pm
Qiora follows along, eager to meet the pixie leaders.
Feb 19, 2017 1:48 am
Valrakas briefly considers donning Yilzyss' mask just for laughs, but decides against it. He chuckles at the thought. "Shall we get to it then?"
Feb 19, 2017 1:59 am
"I am ready to meet the wood in the morning." Rhograx says winking at Valrakas.
Feb 19, 2017 2:02 am
Valrakas laughs uproariously. The lewd joke is just his style. The sound echoes through the forest.
Feb 22, 2017 10:37 am
Garlend and Nalu lead the party into the large stump. Inside, the air is a lot warmer and humid, and the sounds of quiet murmuring can be heard from all directions. It seems like this place is full of fairies and sprites, but not all of them are visible to the naked eye. Nalu looks nervous while walking under the gazes, while Garlend maintains his stoic, annoyed expression. The group soon arrives at the inner chamber, as two tiny fox-riding guards uncross their pikes in order to give entry.

Garlend turns to address everyone.

"Okay, this is the inner chamber. When you get inside you must state you name and profession, and then take a seat on one of the mats. It's important to give the proper respects to Fibrosa, as you can imagine."

The inner chamber is a circular room that is somewhat similar to a courtroom. The visitor's side is well lit and low to the ground, while the elder's side is dark and high. There are five or six elder fey sitting up there looking down upon the part. Lastly, a towering plant is sprouting from the center of the elder's side. It looks sort of like a fiddlehead fern, but with the bark of a tree.
Feb 22, 2017 4:27 pm
The halfling steps forward. "Qiora Jaymie Geng," she says by way of introduction. "Songwriter, musician, instructor of the arts at the court of Lady Omon." She curtsies, before going to her designated mat.
Feb 22, 2017 11:14 pm
"Rhograx Hidaar, teller of tales, singer of songs and cook extraordinaire." Rhograx says with a huge sweeping bow.

Feb 25, 2017 7:58 am
"Garlend, Captain of Guard Unit Bravo-2."

"N-nalu! Ground floor h-hygiene team!"

The semi-circle of elders murmur contemplatively, and the large vine towering over the room unfurls slowly. You aren't quite sure how, but a bassy female voice rumbles throughout the inner chamber.

"Greetings, and welcome to my domain. I am Fibrosa. Lady Omon is a newcomer to these lands, so I'm glad she's smart enough to recognize her more powerful neighbors. I have a pollution problem in my forest and I need it dealt with. Mycnids moved topside from whatever hole they called their home. I want you three to figure out why they came up here, and then send them back to their origin. Once that has been accomplished we can seal their kind away. Completing this task will earn the Omon clan a valuable weapons trading partner, but we can work out the exact details later. Have I made my intentions clear? I will permit a few questions."

Fibrosa's speech goes on for longer than you expected, but her voice is actually pretty pleasant to the ears. She sure does talk a lot though, and you get the feeling that her and Lady Omon would get along swimmingly.
Feb 25, 2017 3:46 pm
Rhograx bows once again, "I am unfamiliar with these Mycnids my lady, do we have any protection against their attacks to better prepare ourselves to rout these nuisances?"
Feb 25, 2017 4:45 pm
As the question is asked, Qiora thinks back to her studies and her experiences, searching her memory for any mention of these creatures.

Valrakas thinks to himself, What the fuck kinda creatures are these Mycnids? An' what the fuck kinda creature is this Firbrosa?!

Rolls

Nature - (1d20-1)

(6) - 1 = 5

"The mycnids release thousands of spores, which you will have to either resist or find a way to disperse. As you are all larger than a pixie, you'll be able to handle more exposure."

Qiora recalls that the mycnids are friendly mushroom creatures who reside in the underdark.

Valrakas infers that Fibrosa is a kind of plant... that can talk. He's heard of Ents, but this tentacle thing doesn't look like one. He also recalls that the mycnids are also some kind of vegetable person, but they live in the dark. They are supposed to have arms and legs, like the humanoid races, and they can even use tools or weapons.
Feb 26, 2017 4:00 am
Qiora nods. "Will we have a guide to where these mycnids have established themselves?"
Feb 26, 2017 4:11 am
"Garlend and Nalu will be able guides."
Feb 26, 2017 4:30 am
"If I may be bold," Qiora begins, "what do your people usually do to try and resist the effects, or to not breathe in the spores?"
Mar 2, 2017 9:57 am
"We avoid the spores. I am the entire forest, so I try to provide shelter when I can."
Mar 4, 2017 5:57 am
Fibrosa twists impatiently.

"Good, no more questions. Garlend will lead you to the mycnids."

And with that, the plant tendril falls back into it's original position. Garlend jerks his chin towards the exit and rises to leave the inner chamber. Once outside everyone is back outside, he breathes a sigh of relief.

"Haah, that actually went well. Really well. We can leave right now, unless you something you want to prepare beforehand?"

As he speaks he pulls out a piece of gold colored cloth and starts to fashion a bandana.
Mar 4, 2017 6:20 am
"Ye got more o' that cloth? We put 'em over our noses t' keep th' spores out. Learnt it in th' Far East. Thass what they do harvestin' their crops."
Mar 4, 2017 6:21 am
"Out of curiosity, what were your concerns?" Qiora asks, innocently.
Mar 4, 2017 3:25 pm
Rhograx pulls out a piece of cloth from one of his costumes and ties it around his nose and mouth.

Gonna be busy this month, gonna squeeze out posts when I can
"I do have more cloth but... it's fit for pixies, and definitely not for a minotaur. Maybe you can improvise by using a loincloth? And my main concern is what kind of trip I'm going to have walking straight into a mushroom den, the spores don't always give you good feelings..."

After that, Garlend and Nalu lead the party though more pixie territory. Every so often you spot a tiny village in the trees, and sometimes the vegetation moves in an unnatural fashion--most likely Fibrosa keeping an eye on you. There are also a surprising amount of red and gold banners around the forest, must be their national colors or something.

Eventually the group arrives at thick barrier of leaves. You hear Garlend sigh deeply as he braces himself.

"We need to get through here... the spores are very strong."
OOC:
Everyone give me a con save when you enter the deeper forest. You get advantage if you can come up with a method of filtering the air or avoiding breathing in the spores. DC20 for no effects, DC15 for mild, DC10 for major. I'll even throw in a free table, so you can roll a d6 to see what kind of trip you get! Roll once for mild, twice for major.

1: The air tickles, you start to see the humor in everything.
2: Does the air taste good? You get the munchies.
3: Everything reminds you of a sad memory.
4: The enemy is all around, everything is suspicious!
5: Just mellowed out.
6: You start to feel the POWER, you're invisible! You could probably punch through trees! Probably!

Qiora already has cloth that she's been using to cover her nose and mouth, part of her desert travel gear. She wraps this around her head and adjusts her hat as they walk through the forest. "You folk like red and gold?" she asks, casually, seeking more information from their guide.

"Penny used to like red and gold," Qiora mutters, more to herself. She falls silent, lost in a memory.

Rhograx has the cloth he pulled from his costume to help filter it out.

The power flows through Rhograx, he has never felt such power. He knows he can hold it in though and use it to help everyone. He steps in front of the party, "You can't see me, but I am still here. Let me blow these spores away from you!"

Rhograx claps his hands together sending waves of air away from him and dispersing the spores.

It's all good, at least he isn't trying to sneak around.

Valrakas unsheaths his kampilan and almost starts hacking away at the vegetation. Fortunately for him he realizes Fibrosa would probably frown upon such behavior and so he stows his blade and shoulders through the leaf barrier instead. "C'mon then!"
Mar 19, 2017 12:14 am
Rhograx keeps clapping his hands together, "Follow me, I'll keep the spores away. Oh, right, you can't see me. Follow my voice then!"

Rhograx starts singing loudly so they can follow.
Mar 20, 2017 4:25 am
"I c'n see spy ye plain as day, ye fool!" Valrakas laughs, and gives Rhograx a playful slap on the back of the head.

Qiora is quiet, following the group as they march.
