From the cursed soil you arise, mist is strewn about you. You cannot remember; who you are, how did you fall, all this is lost to you. But in the distance there is a soft orange glow. Hope?

You approach the light, almost mindlessly driven to hold your hand over the coiled blade. The bonfire lights, for a fleeting moment warmth fills your cold heart, restoring your vigour and your strength. You feel rested, as though you had stayed for ten or so minuets in this moment, though it lasted only a moment. Filled with determination you look once more around you. You stand in a deep vale; filled with mist and graves. Across the clearing from you is a corpse its decayed hands clasp a dull great flask a bright white stone untouched by age. You recognise these items, powerful items indeed...

The sides of the cake are steep but there is an old path winding through the mist..
Nov 7, 2016 10:50 pm
I kneel over the corpse and look it over quickly to determine if the cause of the poor fellows death was immediatley visible. Either way, I collect the two items. I turn the stone over in my hand twice while examining it more carefully. Then, do the same with the flask.

OOC:
You auto pass the examine as you are at a bonfire.
White Sign Soapstone. Allows you to draw a soul sign that transcends time itself. Allows you to be summoned from the location you create your soul sign.

As you examine the dull green phial it begins to flow with amber light that soothes your being.

Estus Flask. The Undead treasure these dull green flasks. Fill with Estus at bonfires, and drink to restore HP. The journey of an Undead has always traced the bonfires, and no journey of import has been made without an Estus Flask.
Nov 8, 2016 4:01 am
I place the soap stone in my pouch, and hang the estus flask off my belt, then set off down the winding road. Taking my spear in hand I focus my mind upon a lesson from a life before that I cannot quite recall. My feet move more quickly, as I step with a purpose I cannot place. My sense of my surroundings heightens as I move quickly through the mist.
OOC:
Psychic Focus (Celerity): While focused on this discipline, your speed increases by 5 feet, and you have advantage on initiative checks. If you are surprised, you can spend 1 psi point to no longer be surprised.

As you start along the path you realise that you aren't alone. Around you in the mists several hollowed undead lurk. They seem to pay you no heed at first, but as you continue its clear that they are following behind you. Soon you will be completely surrounded.
Nov 8, 2016 12:15 pm
I stop heading down the path and turn face to the nearest of them. If they continue to approach me I ready my weapon, then meet them with a charge and sudden thrust of my spear.

OOC:
That should bring you to a total of 4 fading souls loot from this combat.
As you cast your eye around you, there are still hollows about but you would likely need to depart the path to attract their attention. The path winds up from here, towards the entrance to the valley where the sheer cliffs press in close to the path.
Nov 13, 2016 3:43 am
I turn my mental focus away from defence and back towards my surroundings. Should the hollows close, I will not be caught off guard. Then, I continue on along the path and into the valley.

OOC:
just to clarify, you are leaving a valley not entering one...
The path becomes stairs as you leave the valley. Clouds part and for a brief moment the sun shines upon you. At the in trance to the valley is a stone circle. Some of the stones still stand but most have been slowed to fall. There is a knight sitting on one of these toppled stones he notices your arrival but quickly returns his attention to a small black object in his hands.

From here you can see much of the surrounding country side. a huge stone fortress dominates the otherwise barren landscape.
Nov 13, 2016 1:00 pm
I put my spear on my back and approach the knight. With a nod I say, "Hail thee. I am Alara of the Eye, to whom do I owe the pleasure of meeting?"
OOC:
Oops! It was quite late when I posted that.
Nov 15, 2016 6:49 am
The knight sounds quite despondent, he doesn't look up from the black sprite in his hands. I am Gallek of Thander, and I am disappointed. I was kind of hoping you were a hollow hehe...
Nov 15, 2016 12:36 pm
"A strange thing to hope for. What brings you here?"
Nov 16, 2016 3:33 am
You know the strange thing is I can't remember. Really I'm just waiting for my time to join those down there, hehe. he indicates to the way you have come up.
Nov 16, 2016 11:44 am
"I also cannot recall what brings me here, just woke, well, down there. Are you expecting to become hollowed? Is there anything that can be done for you?"
Nov 17, 2016 12:05 am
Expecting? It happens to all of us eventually. I am just done fighting it, waiting for it to come.
Nov 17, 2016 12:48 am
I look to the horizon then back to the knight, "Is that why you are hoping one of them climbs the steps?"
Nov 17, 2016 3:02 am
Well it would help things along hehe.
Nov 17, 2016 11:29 am
"Those down there are mindless and aggressive. You wish them to attack you? To hollow yourself. I see." I look in the direction the path continues on in, "Do you know what is ahead?"
Nov 18, 2016 2:37 am
He indicated to a path that heads down a slop, hooking around and out of sight. That path leads to the coast, there's a small village there, we there was one. he indicates to a steep path that heads up the mound. Theres a burial mound up there somewhere, though I've never seen it. he indicates to a fourth path And that path leads to the firekeep.
Nov 18, 2016 3:31 am
"The firekeep? Sounds impressive."
Nov 20, 2016 11:21 am
I heard that a god died their along time ago... hehe.
Nov 21, 2016 3:51 am
"Hrm." I look to each path, then back to the knight, "And what of the small village, is that somewhere I might find more who have yet to become hollowed?"
Nov 23, 2016 4:40 am
When I went there, a crazy hermit had taken up residency. Don't know if he's still there.
Nov 23, 2016 11:43 am
"I'll be on my way then, good luck on your... task." I head along the path to the firekeep.
Nov 23, 2016 11:56 pm
Wait, before you go take this, He holds out the black sprite he was staring at I certainly won't need it anymore.
Nov 24, 2016 12:32 am
I pause, take the black sprite, and nod in thanks, "Good luck." Then I turn and continue on my way.
Nov 25, 2016 1:35 am
You start down the path to Firekeep. A short walk before you there is signs of a battlefield. The path becomes nonexistent in the fields of crumbled walls, scattered paths and broken engines of war. You can see many hollows, all dressed in decayed and battered uniforms. Notable among them is the three which hold their post on a broken section of wall, they will likely harry you as you approach.
Nov 25, 2016 5:00 am
OOC:
How far is the wall from where I stand? Are they on top of it? Is there a clear way up to them? Are there hollows between us or are the other hollows just window dressing (at the moment)?
Nov 27, 2016 6:50 am
The wall is about 60ft away, the hollows stand atop it. The way to them is cleat, the other hollows are beyond the wall.

The final hollow on the wall turns to ash and you absorb it's soul.
OOC:
I probably should have specified, the two soldiers you just were fighting drop Almian Legionnaire Souls
The battle field past the broken wall now spreads out before you. Straight ahead is a all but destroyed road, that once would have lead to Firekeep but is now all but destroyed. To the left of the path, about 100 feet away is an encampment, in the center you think you spot a bonfire. Everywhere across the battlefield are hollows, many are preoccupied fighting each other assorted pieces of debris, but there is still risk. You spot several soldiers who are better equipped then the others, with lances and broadswords, and you catch glimpses of large figures in heavy steel armour.

Landing, I scan the area. Before pressing on, I kneel and use the magic stone to draw a mark upon the ground. Then, I move deeper into the encampment, towards the sound of steel on steel.
Dec 13, 2016 7:57 am
After passing a few tents following the sound you arrive at a small clearing, where a figure stands hunched over an anvil. As you approach he looks up and acknowledges you but never stops hammering the steel in front of him.
Dec 13, 2016 12:49 pm
"Hello." I say, waving as I approach, "I am Alara of the Eye. It's nice to see one who is not hollowed here."
Dec 15, 2016 2:38 am
When you talk the smith ceases his work. He shouts, suggesting the segregation of his ears from the constant sound. Ohoho I'm glad to see someone that's not one of em 'ollows too. Names Galgroun, Smiths my trade do you need anything smirked?
Dec 15, 2016 2:57 am
I look at my simple spear, and suddenly feel the absence of a shield on my arm, "I might need something, yes. What can you make?"
Dec 15, 2016 3:02 am
The smith smiles Hehehe, lass don't ask what can I make, as I can make almost anything you can imagine. This old smelter has much lacking it lacks the divine spark of fire I once worked with, but unless you desire more wonderous creations that won't be an issue.
Dec 15, 2016 3:38 am
"Well, I could use a shield. Better armor, or, if you are able, improvements to this spear of mine." I hold up the plain woodshafted weapon, "I wonder as well if there is anything I could do about the missing spark of your smelter."
Dec 15, 2016 5:09 am
Well if you were to find a divine ember in your travels it would certainly be of help. I can make you a shield or se armour but I won't do it for nothing. For one of those hollowed souls you have, I can fit you in chaiail and give you a shield. or do you have a particular style of armour in mind? As for the spear, you can exchange or for a heavier weapon like a lance, but unless you have some titanite on you there's not much I can do for it.
Dec 15, 2016 11:57 am
"Chainmail is certainly an improvement, though I might like splint if that is possible. I will keep an eye out for titanite, and a divine spark."
OOC:
I have:
4 Fading Soul
2 Almian Legionnaire Souls

And I'm looking to get:
- Armor (Splint preferred, as I imagine Full Plate is well out of price range; Chainmail if I must)
- Shield
Dec 16, 2016 5:11 am
Splint? Hoho I can suit you out in splint, I'll make a nice shield to match to. I'll take one of those legion souls and a hollow soul in exchange. If you go rest at the bonfire in the centre of camp, by the time you get back it should be done hoho, you can pay me then. he looks you up and down memorising your dimensions.
Dec 16, 2016 1:13 pm
I hand over the souls and bow slightly, "Thank you." I turn and head towards the centre of camp and the bonfire he had mentioned.
Dec 18, 2016 9:15 am
You can find the bonfire easily and there seems to be nothing lurking in the camp.
Dec 18, 2016 2:23 pm
I sit and gaze into the bonfire.

Fading Soul: The fading soul of a lost Undead who has gone Hollow and still. Use to gain 100xp or for trading. The soul is the source of all life, and even in undeath, or hollowing, the mind seeks souls.

Almian Legionnaire Soul: These soldiers from a distant land marched against the Firekeep at the command of those who would break the age of light. Use to gain 150xp or for trading.

You head back to the blacksmith and he greets you, indicating with a hammer to a set of armour and a shield on the ground in front of him. It's a good piece of work, if I say so myself. If you ever need anything else I'll be here.
Dec 27, 2016 3:31 am
I don the new armor and try out the shield, "These are well made, indeed. Thank you. If I find a spark, I'll be sure to return."

With that, I turn and head away.
OOC:
It is unclear to me where I can go from here -- is there more to this encampment? Or, just the blacksmith and bonfire, in which case it's back out into the battlefield? If I can go deeper into the encampment, I'd like to press on towards the firekeep.

You can explore the encampment further with a roll of some kind, but other then that all you can really do is go back onto the battlefield, I'll describe the battlefield before you when you leave the tents.
Dec 28, 2016 12:17 pm
I scour the encampment, looking for useful things, or an alternate path forward.
OOC:

You don't find an alternative route but you do find a corpse holding a sword similar to those used by the Almian soldiers and another Almian Legionnaire soul.
Dec 30, 2016 2:29 am
I take the sword and the soul, then turn and head back to the battlefield.
Jan 1, 2017 7:16 am
The battlefield between the encampment and the outer walls of the keep is shear pandemonium. The ground is reduced to potholed mud as a the result of in determinant years of mindless fighting. The walls of the keep itself are manned by ballista but you see a vector of approach that could allow you to avoid their fire that leads to the main gates. You could forge your own path across the chaos but this will likely leave you open to attack from the wall.
OOC:
In case you want a sense of scale, if the terrain was unhindering you could walk across it in ~half an hour.
Jan 1, 2017 5:38 pm
I steady my resolve, kneel and scrawl the summoning sign with my soapstone at the edge of the encampment - as I give to another the opportunity to not follow this path alone, as I am about to. Then, I set out along the route that appears to be protected from the attacks of those upon the walls. My mind attuned to the dangers around me.
OOC:

The lumbering soldier reals in pain from your psychic attack. Then just as you predicted reals into a charge against you. I slide backwards from the blow, focus on my defenses, get to my feet and lung at the beast with my spear - powering the thrust with psychic energy to try and tear through its flesh and spirit in one quick blow (18 vs AC; 8 Damage + 26 Psychic Damage from Psionic Weapon for 5 Psi Points).
OOC:
The creatures attack roll was 18, while my AC with my shield is 19 - so I think that misses? If it doesn't and if it deals both damage rolls, then that's it for Alara - as that's 43 damage vs 40 total HP... I've posted assuming it does miss.

The clumsy attacks are easier to get around, so I shift my focus to my weapon - filling it with psionic power - and strike at the creature with my spear. I stand where I am and observe their battle to determine which is likely to win, and if it looks to be coming to an end any time soon.

Jan 19, 2017 1:07 am
OOC:
Ok, so it's basically hit dice in a bottle -- since I don't really have hit dice, then how would the Psionic Recovery option on Iron Body Work:

Psionic Recover (2): As an action, you can spend up to two Hit Dice. Roll each die, add your Con modifier to it, and regain hit points equal to the total.
Jan 24, 2017 11:42 pm
OOC:
OK I've got a substitution, I think it should be reasonably balanced, but if you want feel free to swap out that discipline for another.

Psionic Recover (2): As an action, you can consume up to two uses of your estus flask. Roll each 1d12 instead of the 1d6, add your Con modifier to it, and regain hit points equal to the total.

Of course with this in mind if you so desire you can reroll the heal from above.
Jan 26, 2017 2:27 pm
OOC:
Looks great, I like it. It fills the role I wanted that ability for well - emergency in-battle healing (and that's more effective than drinking from the flask).
Jan 28, 2017 12:29 am
OOC:
The main issue was going to be the fact that estus was already a good emergency heal, using an estus was a bonus action. The main reason your getting extra heals of them is that you spend an action to use this power so you need to be getting a benefit from spending a bigger action and a flask. But anyway roll the new heal and lets jump back in.

You throw the doors open and see another walled of section. This courtyard is a well get rock garden, it's central feature a sight for sore eyes: A bonfire.

You are not alone in the rock garden, a women in a fine dress rakes the sands. From what you see of her arms she doesn't appear to be undead, but you cannot see her face, as it is obscured by a wide brim hat with a veil hanging from it. She speaks to you as you enter. Bearer of the curse, please take refuge in my garden. You must be a powerful warrior to get past the gatekeeper, what brings such a mighty soul to the Firekeep?

Other then the door you came through there are three ways out of the garden, to the left and right wide staircases that lead to raised ground on either side, suggesting that the city behind the wall is raised, and the garden sits sunken to the ground level outside. Ahead a door that leads into the keep proper.
Feb 15, 2017 12:15 pm
"A good question. I know not what drives me forward, except the will to continue living. Who are you, and what is this place?"
Feb 16, 2017 6:50 am
bearer of the curse, unless you wish to become as mindless as those you fight I suggest you find a stronger sense of purpose. I am Malora, and I red to this garden and this bonfire. By this place place do you mean the garden or the keep?
Feb 16, 2017 11:39 am
"The keep. I do not recognize these lands. But as you have offered, this garden strikes me as odd as well, surrounded as it is by war and despair."
Feb 17, 2017 4:07 am
Well this is the Firekeep, it guards the entrance to the way of saints which leads to the sacred flame. The king of Legrion had it constructed over a much older site as he felt a place of such importance deserved more then then the degraded towers that stood over it.

As for the garden... This bonfire has stood here for some time, and though I have not always guarded it, it has been a refuge for the undead from times before even this keep was here. I maintain the bonfire, and not wanting to be idle as I do so, have created the garden to house it. The war and despair of which you speak is a recent affair compared to the garden and this bonfire.
Feb 17, 2017 1:15 pm
"I see. I have heard of the sacred flame, what is it? And what is through these passages?" I gesture to the pathways leading away from the bonfire.
Feb 18, 2017 3:58 am
Malora smirks, Scholars have argued for centuries about that very question, not even I know what it means fully. Look into that bonfire over-there, see the frail fading flame with no source? That's an echo of the sacred flame. That peace you feel at the fire, the warmth that touches the darkness in your heart and staves away the mindlessness of hollowing, that's the sacred flame. The legends say that the sacred flame was created by saints of old who sacrificed their life to ease the suffering of others, but those are only legends. Others say that the fire predates the saints and started while the world was young. Afterward she looks around at the exits you had indicated. Well up there is the remnants of the city that was built about the Firekeep, it was once a flourishing little city but the war really ground it away. In there is the Firekeep itself, I cannot say what you'll find in there, few can open the doors and even few come back to say what they found.
Feb 20, 2017 1:58 pm
I bow respectfully "Curious. Thank you for the information and conversation." I turn to the bonfire, and sit down staring into the flame and pondering what the woman has just said to me.
OOC:
How do I level up? Do I have enough souls? This is my collection:

3 Fading Soul
2 Almian Legionnaire Souls
1 Legrion Tortoise Knight Soul
1 Legrion Lancer Soul
1 Mahjim the Gate-Warden Soul
Feb 21, 2017 1:08 am
OOC:
Step one is to examine the souls to determine their worth, as you are at a bonfire this happens for free...
Fading Soul. The fading soul of a lost Undead who has gone Hollow. Offer at a bonfire to gain 100xp or for trading. The soul is the source of all life, and even in undeath, or hollowing, the mind seeks souls.

Almian Legionnaire Soul. These soldiers from a distant land marched against the Firekeep at the command of those who would break the age of light. Offer at a bonfire to gain 150xp or for trading.

Legrion Tortoise Knight. The king of the Firekeep clad his strongest warriors in heavy plate and equiped them with weapons no normal man could carry. Their lack of manuverability was the inevitable end to these iron juggernauts. Offer at a bonfire to gain 1400xp or use for trading.

Legrion Lancer Soul. The front line troops that once defended the Firekeep from all it's foes. Nimble and equipped with a powerful spear they serve the King of Fire even in death. Offer at a bonfire to gain 200xp or use for trading.

Soul of Mahjim the Gate Warden. This warrior came to Legrion on a long pilgrimage from a far off land, and swore fealty to the Fire King. He stands watch over the gates of Fire Keep and deny entry to all who would violate the sanctity of the Throne of Fire. Offer at a bonfire to gain 2200xp, use for trading or to create a powerful item.
OOC:
Now that you are at a bonfire you can destroy any number of these souls you like to convert them into xp and add them to the XP total like you normally would. In case it would change your mind about what to do with the boss soul, it will never be dropped on your death, with lesser souls being dropped preferentially.
Feb 21, 2017 2:06 pm
OOC:
So much lore! What's this about creating a powerful item with the boss soul? Or shall I have to return to the blacksmith and find out?

Also I'll convert all non-boss souls to XP. Still a while away from level 6, so will save the boss soul since it won't drop.
Getting up from the bonfire, I turn and consider the paths available. I head down the path towards the firekeep, to see if the doors are as I was told.

The imposing door to the Firekeep is emblazoned with four insignia; the sign of the shining sun, the head of the prowling wolf, a crescent moon and a great stone. The door seems fixed solid in it's place and seems to posses powerful magics.
OOC:
Examining the soul reveals the potential for creating something, but does not tell you how you would go about that, the blacksmith seems as good as any place to start.
Feb 22, 2017 3:38 pm
Curious. I think to myself before turning back towards the bonfire, nodding to the woman as I pass. I consider returning to the blacksmith, think twice on it, and ascend the stairs towards the town surrounding the firekeep.
Feb 26, 2017 8:41 am
As you come up the staircase, you see the city around the Firekeep for the first time. The buildings were once grand, but now are a mere echo of their former glory. You do not have much time to enjoy it though, as you notice archers on the outer wall, and above you on the ramparts of the keep some hollows in bright armour lining you up with greatbows.
OOC:
If you wish to proceed into this part of the city, describe how you start exploring the city while avoiding bow fire and include a relevant skill check. Or you can back out and go elsewhere...
Feb 26, 2017 1:36 pm
Seeing the archers I duck back into the room with the bonfire and return to the chamber where I battled the guardian. There I had noticed a pathway leading, probably, to the walls, and I follow that path.
Feb 27, 2017 12:15 pm
Climbing up the ladder you arrive onto the great exterior wall. On your left, the gatehouse extends higher still by another floor with access through a sturdy wooden door. To your right, the wall extends, with a group of soldiers (two manning a ballista pointed over the wall and on of those great archers looking back into the town) spaced out about every 40ft. You do not get a chance to decide your next course as you see a spectral red figure who is robed steps to the edge off the gatehouse and angrily wave his fist at you, before silently starting to make arcane gestures.

I return through the passage I had come through to the bonfire. Smiling at the woman, I cross my legs and sit. A sigh of relief accompanies the ethereal warmth provided by the flames. As I sit, I examine the wand from the foe I just defeated.
Apr 22, 2017 6:29 am
Simple wand of Arcane Assult. This simple wand is favoured by spell casters who find their reserves running low often. This wand has 4 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 or more of its charges to cast the magic missile spell from it. For 1 charge, you cast the 1st-level version of the spell. You can increase the spell slot level by one for each additional charge you expend.
The wand regains all it's expended charges when you rest at a bonfire. If you expend the wand's last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the wand crumbles into ashes and is destroyed.
Apr 25, 2017 2:04 am

Then, I focus inwardly and will the area between myself and the wall with as much darkness as I can muster (Spend 5 Psi Points on Darkness -- creating a 50-ft radius of darkness as per the 2nd level spell), and fill myself with a bit of vitality while drawing on psychic energies (use Bonus Action to heal equal to Psi Points spent, in this case 5). Other then the door to the gate courtyard there are three ways out of the garden, to the left and right wide staircases that lead to raised ground on either side, suggesting that the city behind the wall is raised, and the garden sits sunken to the ground level outside. And the great door that leads into the keep proper.

I approach the great door, then lean into it to see if it will budge.
