As you approach the merchant prince Wakanga O'tamu Villa
When you state your goal of arrival a guard immediately let you in.
Two more guards meet you the pleasant, breezy, tiled courtyard that includes a splashing fountain and green plants.

An older guard who seem to be in charge one informs:
Please put your stuff into your backpacks, including weapons or spell casting things. They will stay with me safely until your departure.
Visitors can refresh themselves in a washroom to the left of the entrance before meeting residents of the villa.

You see villa is lit with continual flame spells, and soft music (created by magic) plays throughout.

You are then allowed to proceed to the sitting area:
Decorative columns support the arched doorway to sitting area. Rugs and comfortable pillows are arranged on the floor. Narrow windows look into the garden, but these double as arrow slits in case visitors aren’t as friendly as they claim to be.

OOC:
I would like to allow you to describe if your PCs comply with request and let spell casting focus and stuff like that be taken away.
I would also like to allow you interact with environment so far while I'm preparing the post with Syndra's arrival
Apr 19, 2022 1:47 pm
Ha'aroo first double checks the letter to make sure it is her hand writting and once he confirms it is really hers he complies with their request and hands over his weapons and spell components. Ha'aroo proceeds to the washroom to splash a little water upon his face to wake up and get ready for the meeting.
Apr 19, 2022 3:23 pm
Pacan cringes slightly at the request to turn over her spellcasting focus, but does comply and hands over her walking stick and the sprig of mistletoe, seeing as she'd left her pack at the House of Repose.

This is a lovely villa, thank you to all of you for receiving us. she says politely as she hands her things over before heading off to the washroom to freshen up.
Apr 19, 2022 6:52 pm
OOC:
Please welcome the new player. You don't need to do it IC yet, I can make Syndra to make an introduction, but I just don't want to steal it should the players be willing to introduce their character to new player and new player to introduce they PC
After about 10 minutes of waiting you hear another visitor enter the Villa and is also ordered to give away his weapons, spell book and "magic things". Then an elf is asked to wait in the same room as you are waiting at the moment. The room is big enough for everyone to comfortably spend their time waiting.

Guard shortly note: She is coming. Will meet all of you here in a moment.
You have noticed that "in a moment in Chult may mean any amount of time : it could be minutes or hours as well. They never hurry especially during the hot day time
Apr 19, 2022 7:35 pm
"A moment could mean anything in Chult," Shara mutters, turning to the assembled party as the guard walks away. She didn't know why she had been summoned here, but she did know that Syndra Silvane was someone she could trust. She feels naked, having given up her wand and precious spellbook. At least she was sitting under the shade; so far, Chult had been dreadfully hot.

"Well . . ." She regards the party. Firstly, there was a pair of humans, one stoic and one jovial, dressed in the leathers of explorers or adventurers. Beside them, an imposing half-orc, looking ready for battle; a slender, smiling purple tiefling, dressed like a sailor or merchant; and a wood elf dressed in heavy greens and browns, most likely a druid.

In all this examination, Shara realized that she still hadn't said anything. The others were all waiting for her to speak. ". . . I assume we are all here for the same thing, then?" she says hastily. "I am Sharagwyn Sagelight of the Conclave of Silverymoon. Pleased to meet each of you." She offers to shake everyone's hands, still slightly embarrassed from the social mishap. She would blush if her face wasn't already flushed from the heat.
OOC:
And I'm also pleased to be playing with everyone. Note that Shara has given up her focus and spellbook, as requested.
Apr 19, 2022 8:06 pm
Travers takes off his pack and straps his longsword to it and placing the handaxe inside, leaving it with the other packs. Eyeing the guard wearily taking in his features trying to memorise them incase something goes missing.

He moves into the sitting room and collapses into a cushion enjoying the coolness of the area.

Once Shara arrives Travers will stand and shake her hand "And you the names Travers, you here to see Syndra too?"
Apr 19, 2022 8:40 pm
Jim walked with the party and at the gates he gave up his scabbard with a longsword in it from his belt and a small amber crystal from his pocket. He had nothing else really to surrender.

He has been rather quiet but enthused to see the prince and catch up with Syndra. He is semi-impatient while waiting.

"Jim. You're here to see Syndra too I guess or just the prince?."

Pacan gave a small curtsy when Shara introduced herself. Well met! My name is Pacan Lathalas of Eaerlann, via Baldur's Gate. My mother is ambassador there for our kingdom. she finishes, taking the extended hand.
OOC:
In general for the time being, Pacan is still in greens and browns, but not her leathers. She's in one of the flowy dresses common to the area. Is Shara also an elf of some variety?

balgan144 says:

GeneCortess says:
"Jim. You're here to see Syndra too I guess or just the prince?."
"Quite right," Shara says, shaking Travers' hand. "Lady Silvane is an old family friend—not one I am overly familiar with, but this will not be our first meeting. I just wonder what she's doing all the way out here. It is dreadfully hot."
Dramasailor says:
Pacan gave a small curtsy when Shara introduced herself. Well met! My name is Pacan Lathalas of Eaerlann, via Baldur's Gate. My mother is ambassador there for our kingdom. she finishes, taking the extended hand.
"Very well met, Lady Lathalas. I have had the opportunity to see Baldur's Gate myself, to book passage here. A beautiful city, if overly crowded. I'm afraid I've not been to Earlann." After a slightly overlong handshake, Shara smiles sheepishly and quickly ends with, "Forgive my digression. A pleasure."
OOC:
Shara is a moon elf, one of the types of high elf in the Realms. Mechanically, then, I'm playing a high elf.

Ha'aroo gets up after the rests has already greeted the new person. "Nice to meet you Sharagwyn Sagelight of the Conclave of Silverymoon, you can call me Ha'aroo. The pleasure is mine." He reaches out to shake her hand. "Lady Silvane had the five of us come here for an opening party for their business. But its a bit early for that. Maybe there has been a change in the original plans or something."

After chatting with Sharagwyn Sagelight of the Conclave of Silvermoon for a bit Ha'aroo goes back to looking back out over the garden and watches whoever or whatever creatures visits the garden.

Nebula takes her rod from her loose local clothing (though, still worn with a sailor's tilt) and hands it over at the door. She slumps down into the pillows, creating a bit of a nest.

---

"Pleasure to meet you Sharagwyn, I'm Nebula, local dance champion" Shara had an impressive title, so it felt right she put something after her name.

Syndra Silvane

You are in the middle of introductions when Syndra enters the room I see you met each other already, good!
Syndra Silvane

Sharagwyn recognize the voice, but can't recognize Syndra looking at the old human woman.
The rest of you has that feeling Syndra has aged at least some 10 years since you last saw her 3 days ago. She looks old, tired and exhausted. A guard is helping her to the pillows.
The death curse you must have heard about has struck me. I don’t know how much longer I’ll last before I perish. Clerics have no help to offer. They’re stymied by what is happening
After character try to ask questions all at once, she hushes them and continue:

You know I was an adventurer years ago. What you didn't know - I died once and was raised from the dead. I have since closed the door on that stage of my life.

She also shares grave news - everyone of the 6 PCs in the room share something in common - your most prominent parent has also died and been raised in the past. Syndra believes the curse will also affect them.

My contacts in the Harpers have learned that the cause of the death curse is a necromantic artifact called the Soulmonger. According to their sources, the Soulmonger is somewhere in Chult.

She also explains that she have learned this on the first day of arrival, hired everyone she could and made an attempt to find Soulmonger in the jungles. They failed and she is the only one who survived and was able to magically return back to City. Nevertheless death curse affected her ability to restore spell casting powers, so she will not be able to teleport you back.

If you choose fastest ships you may still have a chance to meet your parents before they perish.
[ +- ] Some details on their jungle failure - if anyone asks about it

OOC:
Is it ok to say my sister got the death curse and that is why she stopped going out once she got here? I thought it might be good for the narrative. Just wondering
"Oh my goodness!" Ha'aroo stands there stunned trying to process the news. After a few moments he stammers out "Are you sure? I mean. ... Is there anything we can do to stop this? There has to be someone with a cure or be able to remove this curse.
I once hung out with a tribe of dragoneborne and they showed me this remove curse spell they knew. A few knew it so it must be an easier spell to learn maybe they can help!"
Ha'aroo refers to the remove curse spell as he stammers about trying to make sense of the situation and trys to come up with any solution he can think of to stop the cursed from dying. He then starts muttering in a low voice, "i wonder if anyone tried to put the soulmonger in a lead box? Lead usually stops a lot of different types of magic I heard"

Pacan is pulled away from finishing pleasantries with Shara when Syndra enters the room.

My mother... Pacan says, words trailing off as she thinks of the implications. As much as travelling home would let me see her physical form again, if it even affects the elves the same way, it won't stop this unnatural curse. She would be most disappointed in me if I didn't at least see what I could do to affect change. she says with a hint of grave finality.

Syndra, are there any rumors or ideas or thoughts about what this Soulmonger looks like? If you had a host of adventurers you've already quested with, where did you go? How did they perish? she says, her thoughts a stream of consciousness more than practiced information gathering.
OOC:
Basically asking questions that would trigger the spoilered information about the initial quest into the jungle being shared. I understand and expect no information beyond that is provided :)
Apr 20, 2022 5:52 pm
Shocked, Travers is quiet for a moment a hint of despair running across his face before he returns to a stoic visage.

Kneeling next to where Syndra is resting "When I was just a boy you dragged me from the river and saved my life" he takes her hand and looks into her eyes "Tell me everything you know about this death curse and perhaps I" he glances around the room "perhaps we can help save both you and our parents"

OOC:
Sure you could assume it is another or several of close to your people who have be raised from dead once. I'm just trying to help you come up with reason for your PC to want to risk their life to save other lives.
Young man, I just told you cleric magic can't help, didn't I? You see, common people call it a curse, but it is not a curse at all. Curse affects individuals. What we have faced is an artefact affecting whole world. One must destroy the artefact to stop it's effect, I'm afraid. But first of all we must find soulmonger. Could you even imagine what does this mean?
Working from dozens of sea charts, log books, and explorers’ journals, I assembled everything known about the current state of Chult into one map.
[ +- ] She shows you the map she was able to create
Apr 20, 2022 6:15 pm
"Ive read of things such as this," Shara muses. "A spell that could affect the entire world as we know it . . ." That's all she can manage to get out before slumping into a chair, feeling faint and dizzy. 'It's so hot,' she thinks, but tears sting her eyes just the same. It's sad to think of it: the woman who once inspired her with such wonderful power, now brought low by withering sickness. And her own mother, who would spend months out in the wild places—what was her life like? Would this curse affect her too?

Shara was quiet until the map came out. "We must do this," she says, not as an order but as a matter of fact. She certainly hoped no one was thinking of going home, because she wouldn't be following them.

Syndra Silvane

Unfortunately Syndra do not have any more info about the artefact. She were hoping to use magic (Locate Object spell) to find it, but even that spell required caster go get within 1,000 feet of object... so this was rather desperate attempt to discover artefact from the beginning. Probably more thorough research could provide better results even if take months.

Although Syndra is really happy about PCs willing to help finding the mysterious artefact she reminds of the complications:
Chult is a peninsula ringed with mountains and choked with rainforests. Enormous reptiles, savage goblins, and an army of undead prowl its jungles and ruins. Mapping the place has always been nigh impossible, and nothing is known about the region’s current geography beyond a few miles from the coast.

On the bright side Syndra also expects that the characters will find enough treasure in Chult to make them as rich as kings, should they succeed at exploring the continent and even if they fail to discover Soulmonger.
Apr 20, 2022 6:50 pm
"Riches or no, it will all be in vain if we lose those who are dearest to us." Shara looks around at the others, expecting a similar sentiment.

"Do you have a transcription of locate object with you, Lady Silvane?" she asks. "Perhaps in your spellbook? I could copy it into my own, and we could pick up where you failed." Shara immediately realizes the poor choice of words and quickly stammers, "Not to say you did fail, but—I meant no offense, my Lady, forgive me." She blushes and looks away.
Apr 20, 2022 7:06 pm
Ha'aroo reacts like "oh duh" when Syndra repeats that clerics have no cure for it "Oh yeah .. Sorry I just dont know how to process this. This is crazy!" Ha'aroo starts circling the couch trying to put the pieces together but a bit in shock that the rumors turned out to be true. He turns to Sharagwyn and responds, "I agree Sharagwyn Sagelight of the Conclave of Silverymoon, this has to be stopped." Ha'aroo turns back to Syndra, "You said there was undead that was attracted to your magic? Does the undead around these parts get drawn in whenever magic is used?"
Apr 20, 2022 7:10 pm
Jim is rather taken back from the info Syndra gives. Words like "This is fair." come to mind. Looking to Ha'aroo, I too will do what I can. Jim is rather beside himself in thought.
Apr 21, 2022 4:58 am
"Sharagwyn is right we must do something to try and save those closest to us" Travers continues to kneel next to Syndra tears running down his cheeks and he contemplates the task ahead
Apr 21, 2022 7:12 am
Nebula has taken one of the pillows and is sobbing violently into it. For all the benefits of having unbridled joy in life, her heightened emotions meant her sadness was also intense.

"D...Dad.." is about all she can manage, appreciating the others asking more pertinent questions when she cannot. She nods agreement with those saying we must stop the curse and destroy the artifiact.

Syndra Silvane

When she understadn that you are wiling to help Syndra confess that she had symptoms for a few weeks already and gathered some information already at Baldur's gate. More over her "business" in Chuld were exactly finding the artefact.
She also explains that "magic attracted undead" was just an abstraction. What actually happened is this: she used Teleport spell's ability try to teleport to place you have been to but could only describe. Knowing that they are seeking necromantic artifact she teleported to a place with a lot of undead. It was her decision as she were certain that with dozen professional adventurers and her spell casting ability they will be able to exterminate any undead... what she didn't expect were to face so powerful Leach.
OOC:
This detail with Syndra participating first attempt to discover artefact is not part of the module - I came up with it because it felt wrong that she would send you - low level PCs to jungles without trying to do it herself. The fact is - module assumes that Syndra has no information other that what I've shared above.
As you continue your conversation and volunteer to go to the jungles to seek any information you can find there about the artefact Syndra suggests you to seek abandoned ruins, old cities: churches, tombs and cloisters anything that could be of an interest to a necromancer.
She also gives you 50 GP each.
Junge expedition without high level magic will require some investment, but I'm afraid this is all the money I have left after hiring the previous party.

She also share the fact that everyone in Chult with death curse currently believe it is a curse and try to find cure for it. Merchant prince Wakanga - a friend of Syndra believe that the source is the artefact, but he is not affected (as never beer raised from dead).
Apr 21, 2022 10:35 am
OOC:
Syndra provided you with every information she has about Jungles and artefact. You may still ask her about the city or just move on start preparing for your jungle expedition and/or finish whatever you had in mind for today
Apr 21, 2022 12:57 pm
After everyone asks Syndra any additional questions they may have Ha'aroo turns to the group, "so it looks like we are really doing this. When do you guys want to head out? I want to check out the Temple of Savras first and maybe pick up some more waterskins and insect repellent. Maybe find a guide. Didnt one of you say there was a list of guides near the docks?"
Apr 21, 2022 4:48 pm
"You all have been in the city much longer than I have," Shara says. "A guide would be much appreciated."

And then, to Syndra: "Is there a library in the city, by any chance? What about a city archive?"
Apr 21, 2022 4:48 pm
Nebula wipes her tears away with her sleeve.
"Jim and I.. promised to guide someone to one of the merchant princes *sniff* and.. I should probably pick up some supplies like that too *sniff*"
Apr 21, 2022 5:20 pm
Ha'aroo turns to Nebula, "would you like us to be there with you for that? Or something we should start dividing up and getting things done? If we are going near that one place that Orc lady wanted to go we could let her know. I bet she would appreciate that." He then turns to Sharagwyn, "i do not know of any archives, im sure they have something but i dont know of any."

OOC:
You still have 4 more hours before my next story post. Here are some clarifications:
Syndra gave you her map and let's you don't even have problem to make a copy of that map for each PC. I will put that map to recap thread and will be updating it as you reveal white spots on it
You know that you could meet Undril at the inn by night, she is doing their research on possible parties to join during the day.
If you split you could still manage to do before mid-day all of those:
1. Gather information about guides ( Outside of the harbormaster’s office is a bulletin board that provides the names and whereabouts of several wilderness guides): Sharagwyn (?)
2. Acompany Omala at merchant prince Kwayothé (Jim and Nebula)
3. Visit Temple of Savra (Ha'aroo )

I will assume Pacan and Trvers join any of 3 tasks above if I don't see other actions in next 4 hours
You could still manage doing anything else before mid-day heat.

Apr 22, 2022 11:29 am
Travers agree to accompany Sharagwyn to harbormaster’s office hoping to meet Undril there on on the way.
They gather information on several guides

On their way back to inn a male Chultan human stumbles up to the characters in the street and whispers, "Speak to the wise guardian of Orolunga, west of Mbala. She can direct you to that which you seek." Then he collapses, unconscious. When he awakens moments later, he introduces as Eshek and has no memory of the last 12 hours aside from a driving need to find people matching the characters’ descriptions (he also share description of the rest 4 of you). He’s as puzzled by what just happened as the characters probably are

Pacan decided to join Ha'aroo at the Temple of Savra

When they enter temple they see a man dressed like priest in the midst of a heated conversation with three members three commonly dressed humans. They don't notice PC and are so loud that PCs manage to understand the the context of discussion:
Three man are looking for someone by name Artus Cimber. They wan priest named Zitembe to cast a spell to aid in their search. They offer payment in the form of a 500 gp ruby, but Zitembe shoos them away. Humans seem hesitant to leave without satisfaction, but then they notice the arrival of the characters and changes their minds: they depart with scowls on their faces. Zitembe express his gratitude for PC arrival and believes that it was Savra intervention that helped to avoid problems with the 3 man who he felt have evil intentions.
He introduces himself as The head priest of the temple is Grandfather Zitembe.

While Jim and Nebula accompany Omala at merchant prince Kwayothé

Kwayothé is willing to forgive Omala’s lapse in judgment provided the characters agree to kill a man named Shago within the next 10 days—no questions asked—and speak of the deed to no one. Kwayothé tells them that Shago works as a guide out of Fort Beluarian.

Character discover that though Murder is illegal, still "sanctions"—legal permission to kill someone or to have someone killed—can be purchased from the merchant prince Jessamine. Kwayothé have such a sanctions for the Shago. It is just a matter of executing the sanction.
OOC:
I've split you in 3 groups and each are engaged in a conversation. But I would like to continue with second half of the day by my Monday post so whatever you do or want to ask NPCs involved - try to do it in one major post or it could be two or three if you are active on the weekend
Apr 22, 2022 1:13 pm
Ha'aroo takes notes note of the three gentlemen that pass them after they leave and then approaches Zitembe, "Is everything ok here sir? It looks like you were having some issues with those three." He turns to watch the three exit the building and then resumes the conversation. "Dang they were willing to offer 500 gold in order to find whoever that Artus person was. Is business closed today? We were hoping to find something but did know you charge money and definitely do not have that kind of money."
OOC:
Has Ha'aroo ever heard of this Artus character?
Apr 22, 2022 2:04 pm
OOC:
None of PCs have heard of Artus Cimber before
Apr 22, 2022 4:46 pm
Pacan watches as they argue and then the agitated people leave.

What evil did you fear they would do Grandfather Zitembe? Pacan says, asking softly. And who is this Artus Cimber that he's worth trying to spend such an exorbitant sum to locate? she continues genuinely interested.
Apr 22, 2022 5:04 pm
"What do you think, Travers?" Shara asks the half-orc as they walk back from the harbormaster's office. Over their short time together, Travers had proven himself to a polite and resolute individual, at least in her eyes. "The second advertisement seemed quite promising, one of the human women. Most of the others seem to want some quest completed for them, but we cannot afford any delays. Remember—" She stops suddenly, unable to rationalize all this sudden threat to life as something real, something that was happening right now. "Remember what's at stake."

Shara is a little disturbed by the man's detailed knowledge of herself and the others, which he seems not to remember how he came by. Hopefully, he hasn't been cursed or charmed, though that is most likely the case. After mentally filing away his advice, Shara asks, "Do you need medical attention, sir?" Genuinely concerned, she adds "I am a wizard, and I know one far more powerful than I."

'At least he can remember his name,' she thinks.

No idea who Artus is, but these assassins knew I have power to see things I've never seen before.

My child, we do accept donations, but that may not be the reason to help people with ill intentions. Savras has gifted me with ability to feel people intentions. I feel you have and good one.
Apr 22, 2022 7:31 pm
Nebula, aside to Jim, expresses her concern privately. "We can't kill this man right? Not unless we know he's a bad person! Maybe we could ask him to leave the island instead?"
Apr 22, 2022 8:59 pm
Ha'aroo takes out 5 silver pieces out of a hidden coin purse not really knowing how much a good donation would be and drops it in the temples coffers. "Please sir, we have an urgent task and want to see if there is anything we can do in regards to the rumors of a death curse. We are seeking something called a Soulmonger. Have you ever heard of it or can see if you can locate it for us?" Ha'aroo doesnt like telling strangers what his goals are but needs to do so in order to have the man help locate the artifact that they are searching for. He keeps a close eye out on the priest to see if he reacts to what Ha'aroo says.

Well Nebula. I would be care not to have to make that choice. Perhaps just his disappearance could do the trick. Hmmm. Legal is strange here and like some places, morality might not be same for everyone. We should at least locate the guy if we are going to get anything done.

Grandfather Zitembe

Rumours? These are no rumours! Souls are not returning to their bodies throughout the world! That is strange - you are no Chultians, are you ? If you truly seek what is happening to the souls of dead - why did you came to Chult? Aren't you to plunder the jungles?
While Ha'aroo heel offended he understand that the priest is testing you by accusing.
OOC:
This is an example of how I prefer players to do action that require Insight roll. A failure would mean that NPC will feel offended by PC. For NPC insight I'm not rolling I will let player to decide the outcome

Omala

Omala understand your sentiment and suggest that since prince wanted them "to speak of the deed to no one" it would only be of a benefit if Shago disappears and his body is to never be found.
OOC:
assuming you talk outside of villa and assuming you agreed to take care of Shago
You do agree to double check that with prince and he don't just agree, but express recognition for your smart thinking "it would be best for everyone if the "Shago sanctions" would not to be revealed" he add.
Apr 23, 2022 7:02 am
"I think you're right the second woman seems reasonable, if we were just here to explore then doing errands for a discount would be wise, but we don't have time to waste, I'm sure the others will agree"

Once Eshek has interacted with them Travers will be confused by the knowledge the man possessed and then sudden confusion and lack of memory.

"What did you make of this Sharagwyn?"
Apr 23, 2022 10:58 am
I can't speak for my friend directly, but I came to visit Port Nyanzaru and get away from Baldur's Gate for a bit. We found out about the death curse while we were here taking in your lovely city and what we've been led to believe so far is that there is some artifact, this Soulmonger, in the jungles here. Pacan says, choosing to stick with truthfulness with the old man. Treasure is something I can find anywhere if I choose. But this Soulmonger is disrupting the natural order of life and death and that I cannot ignore.
Apr 23, 2022 1:32 pm
After his companion speaks he adds on, "And I mainly came here to help out a friend and to see how Chultians live side by side dinosaurs. I never thought such creatures existed. Only since we got here did i learn of what was going on."

Ok so if we want to try and see if a NPC is lying or hiding something it is better not to roll insight and let you use our passive insight to determine if the NPC is lying or hiding anything. And if our passive insight beats their deception you will tell us the lie and the fact that they are lying. Otherwise if we roll insight to figure if the NPC is hiding anything and we fail then we will end up making the NPC offended. Am i understanding the way you work insight correctly?

Travers and Sharagwyn
As Eshek continue talking to you - you feel his faith in Savras is really impressive. He admit to posses some of the divine magic and know what an enchantment magic used by wizard could do.
His loss of control over his own body was a different. He believe he was delivering you the message from Savras.

You don't need to do insight here. It is obvious the man believe into what he talks. As for weather it is truth or not... you have no idea. You are most probably very skeptic about it
Pacan and Ha'aroo
As you continue talking with Grandfather Zitembe he seems surprised about and ask for source of your information about the artifact. Do you represent any organization? Maybe you are minions of a powerful wizard?
You realize that this should indeed be surprising for simple people like you to posses information hidden from high priest of the most powerful church in the city. Would you tell him the truth and tell about your patron? Tell that merchant prince Wakanga O'tamu also believe in that information? You realize - you don't know how much of that is to be kept secret

Jim and Nebula
Agree with the merchant prince that killing Shago discretely (i.e. hiring him as a guide and killing him in jungles) is the best option.
Weather you promise Omala to deal with his issue or not is up to you - he is in not situation to demand you anything and can not pay you anyhow
OOC:
Fort Beluarian is about 3 days away from your current location and that is the place where The Flaming Fist operates and where you could buy Charter of Exploration. If your jungle expedition faces The Flaming Fist patrol - they will attack the expedition and confiscate its gear
Apr 23, 2022 5:07 pm
Ha'aroo thinks for a moment on how Grandfather Zitembe quickly became aggressive once Ha'aroo mentioned the soulmonger and now he is trying to get to the source of the expedition. Possibly to try and stop other expeditions from being set forth. So in response Ha'aroo states, "I apologize as I do not feel comfortable acknowledging if there is or is not another party involved as those who have ill intentions could use this information for goals that counter our own. We were hoping there might be additional information Savras might want to show us if his goals were aligned with our own. But it seems that this may not be the case and I apologize for waisting your time." Ha'aroo gives a slight bow while keeping eye contact as he has learned to do while living in a dragonborne tribe. His overt cautiousness he had learned while living in an Orc tribe may have him on edge in times of safety but it had also kept him alive to this moment.
Apr 23, 2022 5:43 pm
"I don't know much about divine intervention," Sharagwyn admits as she walks beside Travers. "That is not my area of expertise. As far as I know, there are several spells that can charm and some more that can alter or remove memories." Shara lets a beat of silence pass until the next thought comes to her. "And if you want to think about it simply, no offense to any of your party, of course: why would a god be interested in us enough to send a messenger?

"We should tell the others . . . if you deem it wise, or course." Shara didn't know how much the other members of Travers' party members trusted her, but she felt it was wiser to tell them the whole story and let them draw their own conclusions.
Apr 23, 2022 5:58 pm
Well, Nebula. Seems to me we need to get with the others and see if we have a need for a guide as this Shago might leave with us and never return back is kinda the thought. Jim sees what Nebula is thinking. That way we help Omala & Kwayothé as well as a guide for jungle trip to find the artifact for our parents and Syndra. Obviusly the matters are weighting heavy on Jim's mind.
Apr 23, 2022 6:14 pm
OOC:
I'm sorry if I made it look like Grandfather Zitembe quickly became aggressive. He did not become aggressive . He is intrigued. Or at best he don't believe that your source of information is to be trusted. That's the real cause of his behavior and I'm sorry if I am too poor role-player for this to be evident
Apr 23, 2022 6:38 pm
Nebula nods. "Sounds like a plan. I suppose maybe it will be more straightforward when we meet them" or maybe less, she thought.
Apr 23, 2022 7:03 pm
Jim with Nebula will now head off to find the party with news of a possible guide. Jim will if he can on the way pick some toy like trinkets. (Wood or ceramic toys. That being toy animal, shapes, pretty stones and shiny stuff. He expects to spend 2gp for a sack of such goodies.)
Apr 24, 2022 4:27 pm
Eshek, seeing that PC do not believe in divine intervention excuses himself: I will seek the high priest Grandfather Zitembe to shine some light on the events. Maybe you are right and it was an evil wizard who worship gods other than Sarvas is setting up a trap for you. as he goes you hear him whispering Why would such a powerful wizard ... before he dives into the the crowd.

Grandfather Zitembe wish you best luck with your information gathering. He explains you the powers of Sarvas and his as the high priest duties in a way that you could read between lines following: Grandfather has the ability to see visions of a named character or object location, though invoking such power takes a lot of time and effort and the high priest is not wasting his time just because two strangers claim to know the truth about the the plague whole world have been puzzled about lately.
OOC:
I believe with this we could finish first part of the day and assume you all meet in the inn, share information and is now trying to decide what plans for the second part of the day
Do not forget to add 50 gp Syndra gave everyone of you (300 GP together should be enough to organise your first expedition)
You do know Syndra's and everyone affected by death curse days are counted. They will live another month or few, but certainly not a year.
Apr 25, 2022 8:01 am
OOC:
Travers would share the information gained putting emphasis that it could be a good place to start but that we should be wary of it being a trap.
Apr 25, 2022 12:29 pm
Pacan smiles and thanks Grandfather Zitembe. If there is anything we can share with you after, would you be interested in hearing it? she offers before they depart.
Apr 25, 2022 12:52 pm
Dramasailor says:
Pacan smiles and thanks Grandfather Zitembe. If there is anything we can share with you after, would you be interested in hearing it? she offers before they depart.
OOC:
OK, let's do this in parallel/retrospectively.
Grandfather is certainly interested in any information or especially if they concern death curse - the phenomena he have not yet been able to explain.
OOC:
To boost this up the high priest will not be interested to pay you anything for information and he will relate to that as "rumour provided by strangers", but he is really interested in gathering anything because that's the problem affecting his business directly (he can't resurrect any more).
Apr 25, 2022 5:28 pm
Ha'aroo goes back to the group and lets them know that they found a priest, Grandfather Zitembe who was being harrassed to find someone named Artus Cimber for 500 gold. I will let the group know that they said they could look up people and items but it looks like helping us find the Soulmonger wasnt something the temple of Savras was interested in.
OOC:
This information may change of course depending on what Pacan finds out.
"So you guys" as Ha'aroo looks at Travers and Sharagwyn "had found a guide you think may be helpful, and you" then looks at Jim and Nebula "said we would need to either kill some guy or tell him he has to leave his home in order to save that other guy right?"

Ha'aroo looks at the map they received, "it looks like Fort Beluarian and Camp Vengance are the opposite direction from each other so doing both would be a waste of time. What do you all think we should do? Are any of you really good at surviving in the wild by chance? I am decent at it but would not consider myself deeply skilled in the subject."

"What supplies should we buy? I'm happy to put some of my money towards a group pool - because I'm not sure what to get. We'll need water? Hiking Gear? I've only really travelled for a few days at sea, never on land"

Nebula looks around to see if the others are interested in her proposal
Apr 25, 2022 5:39 pm
Ha'aroo quickly raised his eybrows at Nebula's remark. "Oh your right! We need some supplies before we head out. I was thinking about picking up a few things before heading out" And Ha'aroo starts listing off his shopping list:
1 water collector
6 more waterskins
10 insect repellent
20 torches
1 two person tent
1 bedroll
1 blanket
1 hemp rope
1 bag of ballbarings

"What do you guys think about getting a pack mule to help carry things?" He looks at Nebula "pooling our money together is probably a good idea for some things like a guide, taking a boat ride or anything the group will be using together. Im not opposed to pooling some money or just everyone chip in when a group expense comes up."

I would say a tent would be best. I have a two-person one right now. Thinking about it, I think that I will get a second waterskin too. Some of that icky smelling Insect Repellent unfortunately is going to be needed as well as lots of rations. One cannot always be sure how long we will be gone.

Edit: LOL. Cross posting.

Shara glances around at the taproom of the inn, filled wall-to-wall with noisy clusters of patrons guffawing, clapping, and shouting. Drinks are spilled and woes washed away as day fades to night. The crowded, malodorous atmosphere doesn't help having to worry about her mother, Syndra, and everyone else in mortal danger. Overly-nervous, she's unable to focus on the party's conversation.

She catches the part about pitching in for supplies. "We'd need much to be able to survive a lengthy expedition," she says, trying to keep her mind busy. "There is magic that can produce sustenance, but I believe that is far beyond our capabilities right now. I would consider it wise to purchase an animal for the lot of us."
OOC:
Made some assumptions about the environment for roleplaying purposes, feel free to ignore if untrue.
Apr 25, 2022 7:30 pm
"I have a bedroll but a tent might be wise, which direction do we head? Money doesn't matter with our families at risk but you're right an animal might be useful, something that can handle the jungle."
Apr 25, 2022 8:09 pm
It will take a portion of my magic, but I do believe I can create food for all of us on a daily basis. If it comes to it and we can't find clean water, I can also create that. But it would definitely drain me to do all of it every day. Pacan says quietly, thinking on what else is needed.

We will definitely want a way to make sure we can get a fire lit no matter what. Even as hot as it is, that doesn't cook our meals for us! she says happily before continuing. I bought myself a few tins of the scent-free repellant grease the other day. It seemed like a thing I could research back home, but looks now like I'll have to put it to proper use first!
Apr 25, 2022 8:23 pm
Ha'aroo responds to Pecan, "Dont worry about lighting fires. I was taught a spell from a shaman on how to light fires fairly easily. Ill take care of that part."
OOC:
Did Pacan respond to Zitembe by chance?

I forgot to include that! Basically she agrees that sharing information from one person caring about the natural order of things to another is perfectly fine. So no further RP needed for it, just wanted her to do SOMETHING there :)
Wonderful! Pacan says, glad others will have some magical support abilities.
Apr 25, 2022 8:47 pm
"So where to everyone? North to Fort Beluarian or south to Camp Vengeance? Or some other third option? It looks like there is a mine near the fort and a ruin near the camp we can check out. I asked the dinosaur trainers earlier about renting out a dinosaur. I dont think that will be an option but if you all want i can check out and see if there is any more affordable pack animals."

Jim adds in I have a bullseye's Lantern and 5 flask of oil, but probably going to need more oil. and he adds on, "By the power of Deneir, I can supply us all we need food and water wise every day. Doing such isn't problem for me and will make our days nicer." Ha'aroo knows Jim was an ordained priest of Deneir.

Most of the others can conjure food and water sufficient for survival, so Shara doesn't contribute there. Ha'aroo offers to search the market for pack animals; she adds, "Look for a mule, at least, unless some other beast is more accustomed to the jungle. Try not to spend too much, but, as Travers mentioned, do not let cost be an obstacle when so much is at stake."

"In regards to our destination, I have not seen a map of this land, but I would deem it wise to afford as little delay as possible," she announces to the group.
Apr 25, 2022 9:51 pm
OOC:
Ooops sorry the map gets laid out on the table, im not sure which one of us carried it but since we are all at the same location its with one of us lol. It can be found in the recap section. Syndra handed us a map after we agreed to go on this journey.

GM how can we or do we need to do anything to make copies of this map for everyone to have a copy?

OOC:
No problem. I've already seen the map, I just wanted to roleplay Shara not knowing they had one.
Shara regards the regrettably empty map awash with unmarked green jungle. "If this is accurate, it seems easiest to follow the river down to Camp Vengeance. That is, unless you all think having a favor to call upon would make going north a better option."
OOC:
I'm assuming the party was open about why they want to go to either destination. If they were, Shara objects against the mission in Fort Beluarian since it will most likely end in the death of an innocent man. She chooses Camp Vengeance since it gets them deeper into the jungle and getting their half-orc friend there would give them a favor to call on in the future.

If they didn't talk about their quests, she just wants to go to Camp Vengeance for the first reason.
Apr 25, 2022 11:10 pm
"yes I agree. I like the southern route a bit better as I imagine the Soulmonger would have been found already if it was in the mine to the north. Plus killing a man or kicking him out of his home just because a prince doesnt like him is not something im really interested in."
OOC:
If they have not explained to Sharagwyn that Undril Silvertusk was asking for help to travel south he will.

Question did the team looking for guides tell everyone of all the details? Like one group of guides has a triceratops or the other that is just seeking out to destroy evil?
Last edited April 26, 2022 1:16 am
Apr 26, 2022 1:22 am
OOC:
Shara heavily favors the guide she chose and probably only mentioned that one, but when Ha'aroo commented on how expensive a dinosaur mount is, she remembers and tells him about the triceratops guides. She also adds her own personal opinion:
"If you think these dinosaur-riders can be trusted, they charge a daily cost and a down payment, but I believe this can be waived for a promised share of any treasure we find. I hesitate to call upon these guides since . . . well . . . we aren't exactly going on a treasure hunt, and I do not know if we can afford them otherwise."
OOC:
If Ha'aroo and/or the others want the full list of guides Shara and Travers saw, Shara will list them to the best of her memory (she didn't memorize their names, but can describe them like the recap thread does, unless the GM says otherwise). She also justifies her choice of guide (the second on the list) by explaining how that guide charges no down payment and has no ulterior motives.
Apr 26, 2022 11:56 am
Ha'aroo replies "I dont think anyone of them can be fully trusted. We havent met any of them yet and if we did meet them that doesnt mean they wont eventually try to sell us off into slavery later on. I trust you all since i either have known you or because Syndra has vouched for you and I trust her with my life. She has not vouched for the guides. But that doesnt mean we dont need one. We probably do need one since no one here said they are truly skilled in living in Nature or Surviving out in the wild." Once Sharagwyn says the price for the guides Ha'aroo responds "Im sure we can come up with the 30 day payment if we all pitch in like Nebula was talking about. That would be 25 gold each and Syndra handed us each a sack of gold."
Apr 26, 2022 12:55 pm
Jim says, I have probably enough expedition supplies for us. We still need get some mules than we are good. I spent a good chunk of coin so, spending more for a guide is rough for me.
Apr 26, 2022 1:07 pm
Ha'aroo looks around the group "well if we cant afford a guide we can always just wing it. Like i was saying im decent at surviving in the wild just not super skilled at it. And of course dont know this area but we can figure it out."
Apr 26, 2022 2:05 pm
I think setting out on our own with this rough map is good enough for us. May as well travel safely together and just see what we come to. she says, considering their sizable supply of goods. A beast of burden could be nice, but also that's just more water we need to concern ourselves with.
Apr 26, 2022 8:20 pm
Characters spend the rest of the day not being able to agree on sharing payment for guide services and finally agree to move on next morning without one. They prepare their backpacks and get sleep early to be able start early next day.
Undril Silvertusk is more than happy that you are heading the right direction and is ready to join your expedition next morning.
OOC:
Anyone who still want to purchase anything could still do it retrospectively
Day 5. Morning
Once out of the city characters begin their expedition keeping tot he coastline. It good weather for Chult - occasional light rain. While in open you travel at fast peace and manage to reach river delta and jungles end of the day
[ +- ] Initial navigation
You set up cam to rest and continue tomorrow
OOC:
Now I want you to
1. Everyone who use any Insect repellent - describe than (there are two options - 24 h personal protection and another suited to protect group during long rest. Tell me which are you using
2. Choose a navigator for tomorrow (I will roll survival out of that character to see if you don't get lost)
3. Decide as a group if you will go at normal peace fast peace or slow peace
4. Choose path - which way do you go (unless you choose fast travel peace in it be one next hex (A or B on map). If you choose fast peace, decide one more hex
5. Describe how do you refill your water
[ +- ] Day 6 travel choice

Apr 26, 2022 8:39 pm
OOC:
Looks like we are heading out. Ha'aroo picks up the items that was on his shopping list and heads with Jim to get some donkeys as it looks like they both want one.

Ha'aroo's shopping list:
15 insect repellent 1.5 gold
1 2 person tent 2 gold (whoever wants to be the other person can jump on in with Ha'aroo)
1 bedroll 1 gold
1 hemp rope 1 gold
1 blanket 0.5 gold
1 bag of ball barings 1 gold
1 rain catcher 1 gold
1 backpack 2 gold
10 additional waterskins 2 gold
1 donkey 8 gold
1 pack saddle 5 gold

He will make sure to fill up all waterskins before he sets out and secure his chest upon the pack saddle on the donkey.
While leaving the town Ha'aroo casts speak with animals as a ritual and informs them that if they ever feel scared to make sure to stay behind the group and dont run off. That the group will not be able to keep them safe if they are not with the group. He ritual casts that every morning when he wakes up and every night before bed just to remind them. Then begins writing in his journal before bed.

1. Ha'aroo will not be using any insect repellent on the first night
2. Along the travels Ha'aroo will volunteer to help navigate but if someone else would like to take that responsibility he would be happy follow anyone who would like that responsibility.
3. He is down to travel at any pace the group would like to go. Since going along the river will make it hard to get lost he agrees with Pecan about going at a faster pace.
4. Ha'aroo doesnt care which one but for the sake of needing to pick something to move the story along b i guess lol. if we go at a fast pace maybe the hex inbetween a and b?
5. Sets up the rain catcher to see how it works and if they get any water from that.

Pacan decides against any additional purchases beyond the insect repellent she procured a few days ago. Though she will offer to split the tent cost with Ha'aroo in return for bunking in with him. Before they set out for the day, she'll apply a dose of the salve-type repellent that she bought.

We should stick to this side of the river until we get a bit closer. It looks like it may be easier to ford later on. she says, not caring how accurate the map may or may not be. I can do some scouting, but I'm not very well suited to it. she says, remembering how frequently she would get lost in the woods as a child with a small shudder.
OOC:

Shopping complete.
1: 24h repellent. 39/40 uses remaining.
2: Happy to assist or take point if no one else wants to.
3: Pacan votes for a fast travel pace to start, eager to get into the jungle and accomplish what they set out for. She won't argue if the group chooses normal though.
4: B. If we go fast, B and then attempt to go south along the river.
5: If we don't get the full 8 gallons from the rain, Pacan will offer to do the first casting of Create or Destroy water to create 8 gallons in the rain catcher.
Apr 27, 2022 4:01 am
Jim uses personally Insect Repellant & Perfume daily in the morning. He has +4 Survival to Navigate unless someone has better. Jim likes the thought of moving Faster. Jim casts Create Water every evening. Party can refill waterskins every evening as well. Right now, the Barrel can hold 24# of water safely. Jim constantly uses his Machete to clear away some troubles. And a two-person tent for the evening. A nice fire sounds so good. Jim is hauling his wooden case and the barrel on a donkey. His backpack is already stuffed.
OOC:
Jim is a bit of a wilderness man as well as a city guy. Also makes a shot-glass man. Jim spends some time each morning in prayer to Deneir. This becomes noticeable as everyone is around him 24/7. He keeps his religion much to himself.
Edit: Ha'haroo's speak with animals is great!

water catcher catches all 8 gallons during the LR period. You are impressed with it's work as this was just a usual night with occasional rain.

Jim in the evenings after a fire and tents are up, will play with dice'ing games and has trinkets for play instead of doing gold for some kill time.
OOC:
Oh. And earlier when we are talking about copying maps and such. Just happens that Jim is rather skilled in the area of map making and doesn't have the necessary Cartographer’s Tools (15gp, 6#).

Shara is a bit disappointed that the party spent much of yesterday arguing, but nothing can be done about it without wasting precious time. She will have to hope the party was right about not needing a guide.

The dawn before they set off into the jungle, Shara sweeps the market one last time.
OOC:
Some retroactive shopping:
Bedroll (1 gp)
Blanket (5 sp)
Clothes, traveler's (2 gp)
Healer's kit (5 gp)
Insect repellent (salve) (1 gp)
Kit, mess (2 sp)
Robes (1 gp)
Soap (2 cp)

Total price is 10 gp, 7 sp, and 2 cp. Shara bought her own bedroll and blanket, but still asks if she can bunk with Jim in his tent.
As they follow the coast, the land is mostly verdant, rocky plains and steep ridges, as shown on the map. The dark wall of jungle ahead swallows the party, and Shara is fascinated by the dense nets of leafy foliage and brilliant, exotic flowers, taking thorough notes on everything she sees as Jim slices through the green with his machete.
OOC:
Just some flowery description. To answer those questions:
1. Shara applies 1 use of salve repellent
2. Happy to let Jim or any other volunteer navigate
3. Fast pace all the way. Shara is upset if the party goes slower, but doesn't argue.
4. Fully agree with Pacan. Crossing the river rather than staying to one bank may waste too much time.
5. Happy to let the others cast create water.

With this first long rest, Shara will edit her list of prepared spells. Let me know if I should detail that list here.

As they rest, the others notice her studying her book intensely, talking, laughing, and joking as if enjoying a conversation. It never replies (out loud, at least), but the others notice genuine, unabashed joy on Shara's face, as if catching up with an old friend.
Apr 27, 2022 4:40 am
Jim is fine for tent mate Shara. Shara gets some perfume puffed on her. Sorry that Jim forgot SOAP!

Jim doesn't have to let Shara win at the dicing, she probably just beats him. Besides owning the dice, he really isn't very good. He knows the rules and that is about it. He has a ton of trinkets to use for play. Jim really doesn't gamble. Which is good for him considering how bad he is at dicing.

Oh. Shara will also note that Jim's tent seems to have been slightly treated as it really doesn't let any light in. There is no light glow visible on the walls of it really. Jim seem rather particular about keeping his tent inside dark.

Jim has ZERO concern about any plants he butchers with his weapon. In fact, he really doesn't care much at all about PLANTS. It is all green stuff to him. He has a whetstone just for keeping his Machete sharp.

Jim will tell about his previous expedition with Ha'haroo. As well as the time he fell into a death trap and used his Sledgehammer (Bestie) to break walls to escape. He will show off Bestie as it is in his backpack. Jim is very knowledgeable about traps and such in tombs.

Jim speaks in Common, Draconic, and Elvish fluently. He is fairly much the optimist and has a relax atmosphere about him. Also missing the point that he didn't bring any drink with him. You do also find out that Jim has a fear of drowning in water and really wants to avoid it if possible. Jim is very much an Archaeologist and not great in conversation. He is also an ordained priest of Deneir, but doesn't talk about that.

Shara is surprised but grateful for the perfume. She doesn't mind that Jim isn't great at dice, she's just happy to get to know him and have fun.

While Jim is haphazardly chopping through foliage, Shara is studying and categorizing unfamiliar plant species behind him. She doesn't mind him as long as he doesn't interfere with her specimens.

Shara listens to the story of Jim's last adventure with extreme fascination, appreciating the characterization of both Jim and Ha'aroo, the latter of which she hasn't really gotten to speak with yet. When Jim shows off Bestie, Shara shows off her awakened spellbook. She tries to convince him that it is sentient, but only the owner of the spellbook can hear its speech. She just calls him Book. Jim probably just tries to stay polite.

She is grateful for company and doesn't mind the lack of drink. Of the darkness of his tent, she thinks how well he must sleep! and nothing more. Of a gentle nature, she also assures him that he won't have to fear an early death, though it's clear that she can't guarantee it.

She is warming up to her new companions, but is still quite awkward in social situations, never really driving an argument (as seen back in the city) and leaving long pauses in conversation; the relaxed and friendly atmosphere helps. Through their conversation, Shara and Jim discover a love for knowledge and history in common with each other, with Jim representing the more adventurous and physical aspects, and Shara representing quiet and contemplative study. Shara is clearly impressed by his fluency in many languages and devotion to the God of Scribes, but she doesn't force him to elaborate if he doesn't want to talk about it.
Apr 27, 2022 5:32 am
Shara will come to understand that Jim and the church had some rather major falling out. That is what she can figure out. Obviously, Jim is devoted to Deneir just the same.

Jim is polite about the BOOK. He does think she is a touch out of it about it, but he has seen worse. Not to mention his own problems about drowning. Which obviously has almost happened when he was younger and has left it's mark on him.

Jim is a dead log when sleeping and not at all fast about waking up.

He is rather interested in history and literature. Especially in the area of Tombs/Ruins. Shara would guess that he is rather bookworn'ed studied. He will even show her a map he has to a ruins, but he hasn't yet figured out where it is.

Shara will also discover that Jim is an only child from a rather rich family. Which is bothering him as one is cursed to die. This also appears to allowed him to have heavy library like studies that aren't available to those without some money.

She also discovers that Jim can cast the following cantrips: Guidance, Light, Prestidigitation, Sacred Flame, & Spare The Dying. An earlier description of an encounter the party has had, Jim can also cast Faerie Fire and it has been mentioned that he does goodberry to.

Shara reveals that her mother, an archaeologist and anthropologist specializing in Netherese ruins along the Sword Coast, is also fated to die by the curse. Shara surmises jokingly that her and Jim would've gotten along if they ever met. Her father is a wizard who also has an awakened spellbook and is a member of the Order of Scribes, wizards whose mission is to catalog the magic of the Multiverse. Or so she's been told.

Finding it useful to share their spells, Shara enthusiastically thumbs through her (mostly empty) spellbook. She knows simple tricks like prestidigitation, mage hand, and light. Her attacks include ray of frost, burning hands, and magic missile. If the party needs her to, she can cast charm person or sleep. Utility spells include feather fall, mage armor, detect magic, and the newest addition: create or destroy water. Jim doesn't have to listen to the entire list, but Shara is happy if he does.

Nebula, trusting the party to not lead her astray, follows in their footsteps and buys some similar equipment.

She lights a stick of incense and carries it in her free hand. Though it smells strong, she's glad not to have the worry of bugs biting her.

Nebula too volunteers Jim as their navigator. She knows roughly how to travel with the stars as a guide, but that information is useless under tree cover.

Nebula drinks water from the group's store and sleeps alone in her tent. It's hard to sleep when she knows her father is wasting away, and that she's the only one who can do anything about it. She tosses and turns for a few hours until loud snores finally emerge from the canvas sheets.
Apr 27, 2022 6:36 am
Jim is a divine caster. Although it seems he can cast arcane like spells too. Jim does know how to cast Magic Missile, but a spellbook is useless tool to him. Shara does know that Jim has an amber crystal in his pocket that he uses sometimes for spell casting.

Jim does commit to Nebula about her stick of incense. Jim likes the scent. He is also sporting the colorful belt that he purchased while they were together.

Although earlier Nebula dominated most of Jim's time, it seems Shara has that job now that we are in the wilderness (jungle). While traveling Shara is right behind Jim and has the responsibility to pull Jim's donkey along which is infinitely better than walking behind it having Jim pull it. Jim just slices and dices plants to cut away for the party. I'm guessing we are fairly much in a single file line with Jim leading. Jim really isn't great with the donkey either.

Jim does talk about Ha'aroo. Both became friends on the earlier expedition. Ha'aroo is the bolder and more imaginative of the two for sure. Jim is semi laid back. As noted early when Ha'aroo was out dancing.

Travers applies his insect repellant in the morning before setting out and follows Jim trusting him to lead the way. He travels with his handaxe out chopping back vegetation if required to allow for easier travel.
Apr 27, 2022 1:40 pm
While travelling Ha'aroo will be near the back of the pack and keeping eyes out for any dangers from behind them and anyone who may be tracking them (most likely wont be able to do this effectively at a fast pace but that is what he is focused on). Also while travelling he is sharing stories with their travel companion Undril Silvertusk. Curious on her reasons for coming here, her intentions, what she thinks about the organizations she is involved with. Telling her about his sister, how he learned to play the lyre etc.

Middle of the day Jim who is leading the party, being busy with looking for dry place to proceed, but Nebula and Sharagwyn almost at the same time whisper: look! now also a JIm spot a woman in chain shirt and mace on his belt. Woman behaves non aggressive, but suspiciously look at the barrel.

As in my mind i am picturing Jim, Nebula and Sharagwyn in the front and the other four in the back. Ha'aroo hands the donkey over to Undril Silvertusk and then turns so his back is to chain shirted woman puts his hand upon Travers shoulder and whispers in a hushed tone near his ear "dont look now but there is another person at my 5 oclock." (Or whatever the correct angle of the person that is hiding in the bushes) And then faces the front of the group as much as possible with the hidden figure in his peripheral sights.

Pacan stays in the middle to back of the group, mainly observing the jungle around them as she goes. After her meditative trance each night, she spends a few hours in the very early morning praying and communing with the spirits of the land, comforted by what familiarity there is there. Before they set out, she applies her grease and makes sure her leather armor stays in proper working order.

When the woman stops them, she takes a pause, leaning against her walking stick with an appraising eye. Chain armor, in this weather? That sounds - brutal. she thinks to herself.

We're carrying a fresh supply of water, trying not to get over-parched out in this heat. she offers at the question.
Apr 27, 2022 9:54 pm
As they trek through the jungles Travers' eyes float all around looking at the strange sights twitching at every noise to begin with before becoming slightly more at ease.

When Ha'aroo mentions the one hiding in the bushes Travers nods subtly slowly swapping the handaxe to his off hand to be ready to draw his sword if required, glancing around the group as he does so.
Apr 27, 2022 10:07 pm
As a dialogue begins, Shara glances nervously from Pacan to the stranger. "Perhaps," she pipes up, feeling painfully vulnerable to the vaguely hostile stranger, "we could take a moment to introduce ourselves? We all seem a bit tense." She is tense herself, but hesitates to make a sudden move before anyone else.
Apr 28, 2022 6:29 am
"Nebula! Best dancer in the Thundering Lizard!" Nebula smiles, she had gotten used to using the accolade in her introductions now. "Who might you be?" She enquires.
Apr 28, 2022 2:06 pm
Jim has been rather busy with killing off the plant life and had not notices her there. But now that he is aware mostly due to everyone speaking to her. He lets others talk and only take a step to gaze over her, before he feels the need to look around being that she shouldn't be here.

"Oh yes," Shara says to the stranger, forgetting her own introduction in the tension of the encounter, "where are my manners? I am Sharagwyn Sagelight, of the Conclave of Silverymoon. Some of my friends know me as Shara." She looks around at the others after the last bit, proud to call them friends, as she believed that was mostly true. A moment later, her eyes immediately lock back onto the stranger's position.
Apr 28, 2022 3:39 pm
Pacan bows quickly Pacan Lathalas of Eaerlann, apologies. she says, making a simple introduction. As others are shifting weapons, she straightens back up from her bow and looks up, squinting in a stray ray of light.

Woman introduces as a priest of Mielikki and here duty is to prevent undead coming closer to Port of Nyanzaru. Based on what she says here mission is to observe undead activities and report back if undead comes closer to the city.

She also explain you what was suspicious about you: all of the travellers who travel along the river are using canoe as it allow to make twice the distance. Upon seeing of the apes. Jim just steps next to his mule in a protective way as he puts away his machete and draws out a longsword. Appears he is preparing himself for combat. Jim only knows those apes could be dangerous and probably are. Obviously, he has some concern for his mule and supplies.
Apr 28, 2022 7:33 pm
Before they take their leave of the priest (she just calls her Holy Mother, hoping that's the polite term of address), Shara will ask for advice like Ha'aroo does, as well as the checkup that was offered.

When the apes appear, Shara is unnerved, but more confused by the party's reactions, as if they face a dangerous threat. "These creatures are just local fauna," she tries to convince them. "I seriously doubt they could pose very much of a threat."

If Ha'aroo's sleep spell doesn't work as planned, Shara offers to cast it herself ("at the risk of upstaging you," she jokes), but still doesn't see why they should get so worked up.
OOC:
Despite Shara's nonchalant opinion, I, as the player, realize that this is probably meant to be a combat encounter. I think it would be best if we didn't provoke the apes and just tried to go around.

Travers introduces himself to the priest but otherwise just keeps an eye out on the jungle.

He will keep his shield up and dodging as he hopes to back up with Shara assisting in the pulling the mule back. Jim already looks hurt from not being able to dodge full the stone being tossed at him. But he is sure that he isn't going to handle all those apes too!

And surprisingly Jim puts away sword and really has both hands on his shield trying to deflect while backing away. Obviously in a very defensive pose. He hopes actions will speak louder than words as his voicing earlier didn't seem aid any. Will back up with Shara and mule as much is possible.

Do you all want to take shifts by the tent occupants? There are 3 tents with two people each in them.

1. Ha'aroo will talk to Nebula and Jim and see if they want me to talk to the animals and let them know that if something like that happens again for the mules to slowly walk to the person who is furthest away from the aggressors?

2. Then he will talk to the group and mention how they probably could have seen the apes if they went just a little bit slower and see what everyone thinks and if we should remain a quicker pace or not.

3. Ha'aroo also mentions to the group "I was thinking when we met that priest how I wanted to let you all know that I saw someone in the bushes but didnt want them to know we knew of their position. Do you think we should have a codeword or phrase to let our group know of something going on without announcing it? I was thinking of something like if we pretend something happened at a certain time and say it to the group all of us would know there is something suspicious and where it might be. Like if we say, "Do you guys want to have a chess game at 6 oclock tonight" and since we dont have a chess board we all know that there is someone sneaking up behind us. Or if we say something like "I cant wait to eat those T-Rex burgers at 3oclock for lunch later today." And since we dont have any TRex meat everyone would know that there is someone hiding to the right of us. What do you all think?"

Ha'aroo does his evening and morning ritual of ritual casting speak with animals and this time telling them how amazing they did with what had happened. How Nebula's mule did get scared but quickly calmed back down and stayed with Nebula. He will tell the mules to slowly head to the person who is furthest away from the danger if they become scared. (If Jim and Nebula agree). And then continue telling them how amazing they did and how brave they were. Then he will write in his journal before bed.

Shara is disappointed with how the ape encounter went. She wishes she could've done more to help her friends, but dares not voice this concern to the group.
Tasrek says:
2. Then he will talk to the group and mention how they probably could have seen the apes if they went just a little bit slower and see what everyone thinks and if we should remain a quicker pace or not.
Shara initially argues, but acquiesces when she realizes how out of depth the party is in this foreign jungle. "Our first thought should be to preserve ourselves with caution," she says. "How can we save countless others if we cannot save ourselves?"
OOC:
Shara suggests they should go at, at most, a normal pace in the future, but defaults to the rest of the party's decision. Obviously, the rain makes it impossible today.
Tasrek says:
3. Ha'aroo also mentions to the group . . . "Do you think we should have a codeword or phrase to let our group know of something going on without announcing it?"

Jim wasn't happy about getting nearly killed by the apes. And wonder why anyone would attack them with him hanging so close. That and he couldn't get Shara to pull the mule back. It was a dire mess. Jim was a bit red faced about the issue.

Jim suggests someone else can lead through the foliage a cutting. He is done with it and getting himself hanged. He will take the middle and pull the mule himself. He stabs the machete in the ground for whoever wishes to take it and lead.

Jim wasn't a happy camper that whole evening and probably better for Shara to sleep with Nebula as Shara was on a very lesser list with Jim. Jim stayed to himself that evening. He did however cast and put more water in the barrel after he topped off his waterskin and made sure everyone's elses was topped off too. We have 50# of water in the barrel now.

Jim smiles. Yeah his mule could us some Ha'aroo chatter. Jim doubts the need of a password. Doubts we will run into too many real people out here as well.

Sorry for update, I'm taking back some of the last post narrative
You see that Jim's mood hasn't changed since yesterday and you need a new navigator. Also you realize that navigating in such a terrible weather would be a problematic, though not impossible. You remember that locals described that storms happen rarely, but when they happen they take whole day long.
You need:
1. A new volunteer to navigate
2. A decision if you even continue your navigation today or wait for storm to end
3. A decision of moving peace (I assume navigator should take that decision)

By the way, just after the fight with apes, Bruno shared with Ha'aroo who were still able to understand him, that he had a feeling apes are just trying to scare us off their territory and he was trying to save Nebula by pulling her away from danger. While the other mules were just too terrified to make any decision.
May 4, 2022 8:42 am
After the fight with the apes Travers recovers his handaxe and moves with the others til camp.

Replying to Ha'aroo "I agree if we move slower then we may be able to avoid such conflict in the future, not too slow as we don't know how much time remains.." he goes quiet as the weight of their task washes over him again before continuing "A phrase may be useful even if it's obvious at least we can all be warned"

When they see the weather the next morning he remarks "I'm not much of a navigator and reckon I'd be even worse in this what does everyone else think?"
OOC:
Tent watches could work but don't we need 4 sets of watches at 2 hours each?

Marking off Insect repellant now
May 4, 2022 1:11 pm
Ha'aroo shares his reservation to letting another outside their group have a watch at night. And refuses an outsider (outside the 6 vouched by Syndra) has a shift by themselves. Ha'aroo puts his name back in the hat for navigator, "Im still ok with being the navagator and leading the group. As I mentioned before we left Im decent at surviving in the wild im just not trained in it or anything."

Ha'aroo reassured Bruno that "it was very noble of you to try and save Nebula but since there is a language barrier Nebula thought you were trying to run off into the jungle and if you are by yourself in the jungle she could not keep you safe. So she was trying to save you by pulling you back when you started running. So please if you feel in danger please slowly group around the person farthest away from the threat unless you see everyone running. If everyone is running then run with us ok?"

Ha'aroo agrees with Sharagwyn, Travers and Jim that a normal pace would be good and is good to head out in the rain if everyone is ready.

Ha'aroo also shares with Nebula that Bruno said that "he was trying to run off to protect you. He was scared not just for himself but for you."

"I think if the river is as calm as it was before that it would be good to cross now. It looks like we are approaching the undead territory on this side of the river according to the map." he shares with the group.
OOC:
I think we should go southwest but if not then south
and in response to Travers dont we need 4 watches to make it 2 hours well we could just make it 3 watches at 3 hours each. That way there is always at least two people on each watch in case something happens to the only person on watch.

After having to leave Jim's tent, Shara feels terrible; the weight of their dire combat finally dawns on her. She had tried to be a hero to the others, but all she could do was panic and worsen the situation—she was almost responsible for at least one death. Certainly, they were all lucky to be alive, but she did mourn a budding friendship that had instantly gone sour. She would apologize to Jim soon, but right now it was best to fade into the background.
OOC:
Great character development. Love to see it.

1. Shara is fine with any navigator, but adds that she isn't the best at it so it should be someone else over her
2. She also suggests that the party should wait out the storm
3. Normal or slow, not fast
May 4, 2022 11:24 pm
Jim greatly favors walking along the river as opposed to trying to cross it. Lead on Ha'aroo. Pausing for the storm is good too. We aren't in a race.

Day 7 overview
While only Sharagwyn is worried about navigation in the storm party continue their route. Storm continue all day long, but you manage to keep going. You do not meet anyone or see anything special. By the evening storm breaks and your visibility improves.
Ha'aroo who is leading you suddenly realize that you are following tributary instead of the main branch and have little idea which way you have been moving all day long. Since you had to swim over several tributary and change direction to follow ever changing river path you do not know where are you on the map right now

May 5, 2022 7:37 pm
Since we had to swim over a few tributary's throughout the trip it is possible that we swam over the river thinking it was just a triburary and may already be west of the river. Ha'aroo votes for either staying put and finding where we are or heading southwest since no matter what position we are we will need to travel southwest to get to the camp.
May 5, 2022 7:51 pm
OOC:
@GeneCortess if we talk OOC you can't go west on hexagon. You have to choose one of 6 directions: N, NE, SE, S, SW, SE
I would also like to stress out that you don't know which side of river you are. I was trying to narrate it
GreyWord says:
you had to swim over several tributary and change direction to follow ever changing river path you do not know where are you on the map right now
if I failed to narrate it please just accept the mechanical implication is - moved into a random direction ( I rolled 1d6) and you have no idea where you are.
Also don't forget this is raining even in normal day and you don't normally see the sun in Chult. Ever.

Again, if players feel this aspect of ToA is not fun and vote to remove it - I'm totally fine to disregard the "Navigation" chapter from module
description - there are enough of the other types of challenges in the game.

Until I have majority of players vote to remove it from this game I'm running it as written.

Pacan looks around at the trees. They all look - the same. she thinks to herself, exasperatedly. She never had this issue back home. Everything here was just so foreign. The water wound around and bent in the weirdest ways. The trees were gnarled and warped. Nothing was right. Even her morning meditations didn't work as well as she would have liked.

Let's stay put for a bit, and do some thinking. We can track the sun, or what hazy ball amounts as the sun, and get an idea of where we are. Better than walking in a bloody circle, yeah? she says, a faint touch of exasperation tinging her voice. Even if we have to climb a tree to do it. It would be worth it.
OOC:
Mechanically speaking, I think it's fine to leave the navigation part in. It's not perfectly "fun" in play by post, but I think the exposure to the jungle, consuming days against the death curse, yada yada all adds something to the mounting pressures to solve it and such. I vote to keep it. The "frustration" it causes the characters is worth it in terms of suspense and development.
May 5, 2022 9:18 pm
Well we are lost. But the morning sun will tell us which way is west. I think that is best thing to do. It is what I would do. And obviously it will take us away from the undead. Jim puts in his thoughts.

Immediately after opening her ayes Nebula falls asleep as Ha'aroo magic put her asleep, but so it does with all of the striges.
You quickly finish of all the striges (except one that fed on Ha'aroo and escaped, but it never returns).
OOC:
Out of initiative. Thanks to sleep spell Pacan turn does not affect anything, so I'm not waiting for player though it is a weekend
You soon finish your day walk and prepare camp and get to sleep.
OOC:
This nigh I've rolled a random encounter, so I want you to do following:
1. Everybody take short rest
2. Decide weather you keep a bonfire during the night or not (I will assume bonfire by default)
3. Decide weather you camp close to river (I will assume dry hill away from river by default)
4. Decide watch pairs
If you don't want to include Undril in watching I could suggest following sample watching in pairs, but you could change as you wish note that both elves need 4 hours without interruption, so they could only take first 2 or last 2 watches. If Jim have any problem being on the watch with Sharagwyn you could have Undril instead, or come up with your own ideas :
I. Jim - Sharagwyn
II. Ha'aroo - Sharagwyn
III. Pacan - Travers
IV. Pacan - Nebula
May 8, 2022 7:40 am
Jim uses his HD recover for the short rest. Jim heals 10 points and still is off 1 HP. I vote for a campfire and a dry hill. Jim prefers to do the watch with Nebula as before.

Ha'aroo will request to keep the bonfire going as he wont be able to see much in just the star and moonlight.

Would recommend close enough to the river where we can see or hear the river so we dont get lost when we wake up but not right on the river as creatures will probably go to the river to drink late at night and we dont need to quench their hunger before the quench their thirst

Didn't I specify that? Sorry. Camp gives 40 foot bright light and 40 more dim light.
I also rule you could throw object up to 60 foot location without any skill check if you spend an action to throw it.
But since you don't care to aim it at exact location I think it is fine to treat is as a free object interaction instead.

Ha'aroo looks to off into the jungle and cast dissolent whispers at one of the skeletons with the bow.

He then backs up 10 feet as the one skeleton seems like he is ready to charge.

DM i just want to remind you that my survival is +4 due to jack of trades ability. Not sure if that would have mattered on previous rolls but just thought id remind you. I wasnt able to say anything the last time we got lost as it didnt show my modifier that time.
Ha'aroo will definitely take a bow and a few arrows if the group doesnt mind.
OOC:
How do you all want to do loot for mundane or magical items going forward? Here is a thought im thinking but i dont really care and however you all would like:
*Gold can just be split up equally
*Mundane items people can take what they need and the rest gets stockpiled on one of the mules to be sold later. Roll off if more than one wants the item
*Permanent Magic items whoever wants it rolls for it. If you have an magic item you cant roll off for another magic item until everyone has one.
*Consumable magic item is the same as permanent magic items but doesnt count towards everyone getting a permanent magic item.

maybe im going too much into it haha
Seeing how Travers was able to block some of those arrows that took Ha'aroo out, Ha'aroo asks Travers for a little advice and training on how to use a shield when they have down time throughout the days to come.

Ha'aroo would recommend we head southwest from wherever we currently are at normal pace but wouldn't object if others would like to go slower.

As they approached the camp Ha'aroo turns to the group "Do you all want to check this place out? See if there is anyone here who would want to help us with information on this jungle? Or see if the soulmonger is here?"

Upon sight of the bird that seems to be in a frantic state Ha'aroo asks the group for a few minutes so he can ritually cast speak with animals to see if this bird has any information and why it seems so scared. If there are no objections then he will ritually cast speak with animals and talk with the bird.

If there are objections and the group wants to move on Ha'aroo will continue to move on.

Feeling a touch defensive Jim takes his shield to his hand as he looks about. He pulls up next to Ha'aroo while he is ritual casting to speak to the bird.

As some of you move forward while Ha'aroo spent his time of ritual casting you see that all of the tents (area 2) are slashed and all the canvas is at the point of disintegration from mildew and jungle rot.
Nebula realise that the bird is kind of bird unable to fly and this is trapped inside the enclosure.

Now as you see the crocodile satute at different angle you realise: Between the statue’s feet is a stone archway leading to a dark tunnel

Bird is certainly exhausted and only wish to get away. She shares that the somehow occasionally fell from the higher land next to he enclosure thus trapped inside it all by itself. It was a few days ago, though bird don't have meaning of time and can't really recall how much days ago was it. Ha'aroo realise this is a young (child) representative of their species and fail to get any more information that that however he tries.
May 17, 2022 6:56 am
I've arrived Chult same time as you did.
The information she posses and is willing to share as representative of The Order of the Gauntlet :
When Order of the Gauntlet first brought its war against undead to Chult, its members established this base camp around this ancient Chultan shrine. Our Order is not interested in the shrine itself, but the surrounding were good place to build defenses around. So they believed. They set up a camp, believing that their own strong arms were sufficient protection. A couple months ago, they were proved tragically wrong when hundreds of undead swarmed out of the jungle and overran the camp. Only a handful of warriors escaped from that slaughter. The second wave of templars established Camp Vengeance at a location they believe is easier to defend.

OOC:
I will push story forward regardless of events with the bird or any other investigation you may still want to do around the temple before entering it

Jim moves closer to shrine and takes 5 feet stairs up Between the statue’s feet is a stone archway leading to a dark tunnel.

Based on Jim's background feature he realises following
Jim understand that this shrine was built centuries ago by Chultans. Target of worship is so called "man and crocodile" cult. The cult is a history though.

As he looks inside he see 23 feet high ceilings draped with cobwebs, and the stone-tiled floor is covered with a thick layer of mud, creepers, and blown-in leaves.
OOC:
What do you do next? I have added a recap of the site here
May 17, 2022 10:08 am
Jim goes to his mule and takes the wooden box off it. He then retrieves Bestie to his hands as well as a now lite bullseye lantern for light. He empties his backpack into the wooden box and now puts Crowbar, 10 Pitons, 10 Torches, Map Case, Flasks of Oil, 4 Rations, Mess Kit, Tinderbox, Sack of Candles and Sack of Salt in it. He puts his tent and bedroll in the box from his backpack and attaches on Miner’s Pick, Shovel next to his shield. Otherwise, he gets himself ready for tomb exploring. It is obvious why he has a wooden box with him.

He does take out his map case a moment or two and draws the entrance and such on it before putting it back away. Obviously, he intends to map the place out as well.

Is everyone ready for some exploring?

Ha"aroo asks the bird one final question before it leaves "have you seen any creatures here since you locked yourself in?"

Ha'aroo glances about to make sure there is no danger in the immediate area. While still able to speak with animals he turns to his mule and lets it know the current situation. That they are going inside some old ruins that could be dangerous and if it would like to stay out here and if there is anything dangerous out here to give off a yell and we'll come back. Or if you would like to go down inside with us. I would recommend it staying up here and there is any danger it can hide out nearby for us to come out or for it to come inside.

Ha'aroo takes out his bag of ball bearings, rope and 2 waterskins from the chest. And tells Jim "ill hold onto the lanturn if you would like so that you can hold bestie and your shield."

Ha'aroo stands behind his good friend Jim and is ready to go down and see what lays within.

I would like to have talked to the bird before it was released and toss it some food if it hasnt eaten in a few days. I imagine talking to it and making sure it is ok and not going to attack us and letting it know we are not a threat before released but if released beforehand then oh well. Also would like to tell the bird that it can hang out with us until it finds its flock if it wishes to but we are going inside for a little bit first.

As soon as we enter the building Ha'aroo puts his hand on Jims shoulder and says "Just like old times buddy" and gives Jim bardic inspiration. Which can be after you roll a d20 but before the DM says the outcome.

Let me retrospectively resolve talking to bird, meanwhile I still wait for information about the why how you are entering the shrine and if you do anything else before that. Also - does everyone goes in? DO you invite Undril to join you as she is not interested?
When Ha'aroo talks to bird and it start recalling the creatures it has seen it remembers predators and start to panic, when Ha'aroo enters Animal pens, and hold bird and tells it he will protect it. That tactics helps to calm bird down and it shares, that it's parents came to scare away any creature who was to eat it. You understand that parents are somewhere near. The bird then describe other creatures: crocodiles (who did not reach him in pens, flying humans, monkey with sticks, huge snake (scared away by parents).
You figure out that monkeys with sticks are most probably small sized humanoids.
May 17, 2022 5:16 pm
Ha'aroo will be going in with Jim and would ask Undril to take care of the animals if she would not like to go inside. I will tell the bird she can stay with Undril if Undril is not going in and it might be safer to hang out with us until it finds its parents. If not he wishes the bird good luck in finding her parents. And then Ha'aroo will relay all the info the bird told him to the rest of the group of everything she saw and what was going on.

DM you asked why we are trying to go in the building. Ha'aroo is going in as he was told to check "abandoned ruins, old cities: churches, tombs and cloisters anything that could be of an interest to a necromancer." and learning anything he can about the area (paintings, stories, rumors) could lead them to the correct area.
The rumors they collected, Syndra and Grandfather Zitembe had no further info on where the soulmonger might be in Chult and what it may look like. So it is time to gain knowledge of the area and everything that is going on in Chult so that hopefully we can find it faster than just wandering around. Heck if its here then mission accomplished.

He will keep about 10 feet distance between Jim and himself as he knows that Jim is really good at jumping out of the way when he steps on a pressure plate but sometimes when Ha'aroo is too close Jim, he would get in Jims way when Jim tries to leap out of the way of the trap and then they both get hurt.

Jim is currently stadning on a terrace, the floor of which is tiled in a four-by-four pattern of squares. There’s just enough room for a person to stand at the top of the ledge without stepping on the tiles, but beyond that, the pattern covers the floor from wall to wall, clear back to another 7-foot-high ledge
The wooden doors has similar four-by-four pattern carved into it. Though Jim only see upper 3 lines from where he stands, he could conclude there is enough space for one more line

OOC:
Dang so this was a little confusing. So no one saw the trap and it didnt activate when Jim passed over it first right? I dont get a saving throw its just an auto fail? Also Jim did you say at the beginning that you had the dungeon delver feat at the beginning of the game? I see you only rolled once for a saving throw and didnt use the bardic inspiration so I wasnt sure if I was remembering right if you took that feat.
As Ha'aroo slowly falls down into the pit he looks back at Nebula and says "Thank you! You are literally a life saver!". As he is getting his rope out he sees Nebula slip and slowly float down and tries to catch her. Ha'aroo trying to analyze what Jim had done that he had not done Ha'aroo come to the conclusion that maybe the trap had a timer set to not activate until 20 seconds after activated. Ha'aroo looks for the mechanism that the trap was set with so that he could understand how the creator of the trap thinks and hopefully would figure out the next trap before it sprang.

Ha'aroo tosses up some rope to help them climb out of the pit.

When Ha'aroo and Nebula are let up out of the pit he analyzes the trap in the next room and uses the trigger mechanism from the pit trap and looks at the trigger mechanism for the blade trap and tries to come up with a way to disable the blade trap with Jim.

Ha'aroo have no clue what triggered pit cover to fall. It did not move an inch when he stepped on it. Trap only triggered when he moved half way through it. More over he do not recall to have stepped or something. Neither did Nebula or Sharagwyn noticed any mechanical trigger although there were just behind watching Ha'aroo moving.
When you can't explain something it is usually magic. Everyone of you think.
OOC:
Hint/note: I would allow you to take short rest now if Jim would sit down on that edge he would be able to sit comfortable enough. Not that I encourage you to see what would happen if you don't do anything for next hour, just explain that it is technically possible

It takes a few minutes and some effort to pulling Ha'aroo and nebula out but when Travers come to help with that it it just a matter of time when both are out.
However that time was enough to spot that pit cover floor parts are very slowly moving up. You hear no sound and could only guess it is operated by some old magic.
No matter how long you look at either trap you can't see anything that triggers them.

What do you DO?

Jim understands that although trigger for remove blades are magical the blades itself are metal. One could try to hammer a blade once it appear from the wall niche to jam it and not allow to make back to the wall. There are just two problems:
1. There are four blades
2. You need to somehow trigger the blades in order to hammer any of them

Jim calls from his ledge, Beside the pit there is some kind of blade trap on this ledge below me. I suggest rope and pitons to get accross the pit. I see what I can do about the blades.

Jim will take out a torch and see if he can wave it across the blade area to see if it activates the blades out the niches or not. He is trying to determine the means of activation.

He can deal with getting them over to them next. He has a feeling he is going to have to do this himself. He is the most experienced.

Sorry you were saying it was magic so i just assumed that would be arcana. I just didnt want to go to bed waiting for a description and wake up to falling damage again. After that was thinking the only way to prevent that was to take a more proactive role.
Ha'aroo shouts out to Jim "I got some rope but not pitons. We do have the swords from the skeletons though"
May 20, 2022 12:59 am
Jim gets his hammer out as Bestie is too hard to drive piton when your hanging. It will take me quite a bit but I will work my way to all of you. That way we can get up here by traveling along the ropes. Jim starts the tedious process of piton'ing the wall so you can hang on the room and cross over the blades area and then he will continue to make a rope crossing over the pit on the wall after that. This should take quite a while to do. Others there can probably get a short rest. :)

hammering single piton with the right tool shouldtake no more than a minute and no checks required.
But could you please elaborate Jim's plan? Is he hammering single piton and fixing rope into it . Then throwing the other end of rope for others to catch? Anything else?
May 20, 2022 4:33 am
I'm not really keen on how spelunkers or mountain climbers do it. I just know the put pitons in and get across stuff. Since Jim has this stuff for that purpose then I would assume he knows.
May 20, 2022 5:53 am
OOC:
Neither do I know how spelunkers or mountain climbers do it. I did imagine hammering a new piton every feet of 10 feet wide wall would be a possibility and with "Climber's Kit" it wouldn't even require ability check. Anyway, rope+piton is something I do understand and can easy narrate.
Jim hammers a piton into the wall, fix one end of the rope and throw the other end to Haaroo, it falls into the pit first time, but on repeated attempt Haaroo catch it. Haaroo, Nebula and Shara hold the other end of the rope, while Jim makes it down the rope.
However. When he is in the air just above blade trap, blades come out of the wall, cutting the ropes. Jim, trying to escape as much as he can ends just next to the open pit. There is also a few foots space for him where he think blades will not get him.

Haaroo, Nebula and Shara all fall prone as they did not expect rope to bet cut.
OOC:
You know what Jim have to do - dex save with advantage and take half of half if pass or half of the damage rolled due to his feat
It is obvious for Jim and evident for others that blades triggered when Jim was in the middle of the trap. Jim recall that it is exactly the same position (except for vertical dimension) when trap triggered. He is 100% sure he did not touch anything to trigger the trap.
Jim - your 50 feet rope is now a 40 feet long. And single piton still there, but you are on this side of the blades trap

Undril hearing what is going on say You know what, this ancient shrine is closest to city and well known. I bet many adventurers have tried passing the traps. Best to my knowledge none succeeded at least for the duration while our order where here in this camp.
She try to say that this is both good and bad news. Good - it is possible that none have been inside just yet and you could find something valuable in there. Bad - whoever have built this shire did extremely good job to protect it against unexpected intruders.

She will also suggest to cast cure wound on Jim once he get's out of the shrine.

Ha'aroo educates you:
Temple of such a size without infrastructure around should mean this temple were not well protected by worshipers against intrusion. Everything in this corridor is designed to prevent creatures who do not know how to avoid traps from entering the temple. There should however be a way for worshipers to safely enter the temple. Learning more about the particular deity and worshipers may be of a help.
The key to safe passage should have been passed from generation to generation and may have left some evidence.
May 21, 2022 7:20 am
A fine thought Ha'aroo. I could spend some time hunting for a worshipers way to bypass those traps, but then again it might have been only easily passable with a priest who can temporary disable the traps. Being that is really by looks like a magical trap, I would go with the thought that a priest's skill is needed. Jim adds his thoughts.

"Before we leave, I would like to investigate the rest of these ruins," Shara suggests to the others. This place gave her chills, but they might not get a chance to come back after this, and she wanted to be thorough in their investigation.

Nebula thinks about what Ha'aroo said.

"If we were worshipping here..." She looks around. "worshipping this... crocodile humanoid... Maybe... If smoke could come out her ears it might have. "like a crocodile... they might slide on their bellies?"

Nebula sighed, that didn't seem like it would work at all, and she didn't have enough faith in the idea to risk her head.

Ha'aroo is a bit disappointed in himself and hopes this is not the ruin that is near undead that might have the soulmonger that Syndra was talking about. He mutters under his breath "Please dont die Lasme due to me not figuring this out this trap." and he shuffles off to get ready to look for another spot that the soulmonger may be.

Ha'aroo turns to Nebula after she mentioned about crawling on her bellies. "Thats a great suggestion i was thinking the same thing and was looking to see if there is any part of that room that the blades do not reach but somehow the blades reach every part of that room."

Before leaving he will search through section 5 of the camp since that is the only place in the camp that has not been searched yet.

I second the idea of setting camp and taking the day to rest and regroup. Between the shrine and traps and the weather over the last five or six days, I think we're all running a little ragged. Pacan says, a hint of tired dejection in her voice. Let's rest the day and start off fresh tomorrow with fresh eyes. And maybe move a bit more carefully? At least until we're not so beaten down?

First Ha'aroo lifts up the Warhammer and then after that has been lifted out and then he will lift out the body.

After he is lifted out he asks Sharagwyn Sagelight "Were you able to find anything in that building you were looking at?" As he nods over to area 3 that she was looking at earlier.

"Would anyone want to use this hammer? I imagine we can even make a hole in the back of the temple from the outside. It may take a week or two but if the soulmonger is in this ruin then mission accomplished. No one has been able to get in it looks like and there was undead near here just like we were told about earlier."

Sorry those are details I should have provided with previous post
The camp is ringed by a water filled ditch lined with sharpened stakes backed by a stout, 12-foot-high log palisade. The depth of the ditch isn’t apparent because it’s perpetually filled with muddy water. The spikes are too big to be effective against undead but they’re dangerous to Large and Huge beasts. The gatehouse is heavy enough to withstand a charging triceratops, and the gates were only opened for you when Undril's identity was confirmed by an officer (you had to wait for a few minutes for him to arrive).
Oficer - dwarf Ord Firebeard accompany you to the command tent (6) where you will meet the man in charge (Niles Breakbone).
While waiting for Breakbone to let you in you observe the situation:
The knights stationed here are disease-ridden and exhausted from their constant battles against giant jungle carnivores by day and undead horrors by night
(5) are Field Hospital Tents - there are 10 heavy wounded soldiers in those tents. The acolytes tending the sick are themselves so ill and exhausted that they can’t make effective use of their magic. Undril immediately use all her magic power to cure 7 of them before she runs out of magic power

Ha'aroo happily gives the navigation back to Jim as he was just taking over since Jim didnt want to do it any more.

He tells the group he would rather drop her off and continue on as this is no ruins and seems like a place riddled with diseases. He then brings up didnt the two of you say someone random told you to find someone west of Mbala? You said he was urged to find you even though you never met him right?

Ouchie. Jim is out of feed for his mule and is out of insect repellant too. No idea how you been feeding the other mules.

By now, Shara would have told Ha'aroo about what she found back at Camp Vengeance. "It seems to be a silver pendant, a holy symbol dedicated to Torm. I have no use for it, but an anthropologist such as yourself might appreciate it."

Shara weighs in on the situation, thinking that it would be best to stay the night here. The place may be full of disease, but it's also the safest place they could sleep, being walled and home to trained knights.

OOC:
I'm shifting the real life time when I post story progress by it about 12 hours. It means you have 12 hours more to decide if you want to interact with any NPC or objects while waiting for man in charge (Niles Breakbone) to accept you in his command tent.
Just a reminder of the situation:
Undril is still with you also waiting to meet Niles Breakbone, though she decided to go to the Field Hospital Tents (right next to command tent) to help treat sick and injured, using here magic. There are 3 acolytes right now treating them.
Officer, dwarf Ord Firebeard, stay with you to introduce you to his boss
You see more soldiers in watch towers on the gates, you could guess more of them are in their tents, though it was obvious Ord Firebeard want you to stay close to be able to meet Niles Breakbone as son as he is willing to let you in.
OOC:
Any interaction with any NPC before we move on with meeting the boss?
May 26, 2022 10:16 am
OOC:

May 26, 2022 5:55 pm
OOC:
Dear players. I just want to make sure you understand this moment in the game is the moment of social interaction opportunity. THere will not be many of them in the jungles.
I would like our social interaction to move forward a bit faster than a single sentence each day of real life, so here are my expectations:
1. If you want to communicate with an NPC I would be happy if you could to in in first person, but please make sure you explain your PC intention so that I could narrate how the conversation ends if it requires more than single sentence
2. If you believe your PC intention is something extraordinary, roll a Charsima check and mention the who is target of the check (I will only allow each PC to concentrate on single NPC during one conversation). I may decide to add your proficiency bonus to your roll (or half of it for Ha'aroo) if I believe your proficiency may apply.
3. If all you want is "roll an insight because my PC do not interact but just watch NPC", i.e. watch "gleaning clues from body language, speech habits, and changes in mannerisms" as it is described in rules. I must wan you however that this check would auto pass on peasants and auto fail on diplomats/rogues. For other NPCs DC would vary from 5 to 25 depending on their background
Dwarf asks a soldier to help put your mules into animal pen and you are all finally invited into the command tent.
Dwarf (Ord Firebeard) present you as "Cleric in a company of adventurers", but before he could even finish
Niles Breakbone interrupts: Finally my prayers have been answered! What we got here - an orc! Women! Priest or Torm! And bunch of tourists. Is it too much to ask for a proper holy man to bring divine favor ?! he shuts up and look at you in disappointment.

Ord Firebeard use opportunity to speak up: This Half-orc priest just demonstrated divine powers by healing most of those in the injured! you could hear dwarf stressing half-orc as if reminding that he is not a human either. He put a letter on the table and add Besides instructions are clear. Undril is taking over divine aspect of our mission allowing you to devote your energy to military aspects!

Breakbone is even more angry about this and insists immediately that your party join the garrison and help organize protection against undead armies. I will indeed devote my energy to military aspects! he explains.

Undril watch the man astonished, unable to say a word. It was obviously not the introduction she were expecting.
OOC:
What do you do?

"There's nothing wrong with being a woman neither" Nebula adds. "I'm not going to take orders from someone who belittles me and my friends!"

Nebula crosses her arms in defiance.

Pacan can feel her agitation rising at the dismissive way this supposed commander spoke to the group.

If we're just tourists and women, not fit to answer your divine prayers, why would you suddenly want us for your garrison. You know nothing of us nor what we can do to help. Perhaps take some time and learn about us before you decide to issue orders to people that owe you nothing. she says, keeping her voice as level as possible, a trick she learned watching her mother at court. My name is Pacan Lathalas, student of the land and servant to no kingdom of man. she finishes, straightening her back and setting her shoulders proudly.

50gp/6 players = 8.66 gp per person. And ill put the warhammer in my chest unless any says they want it.

Ha'aroo looks at Undril, "well you know if a guy like this doesnt appreciate a mighty woman as yourself you do know that we can use your strength and we appreciate each member in our group."

Undril steps in Niles Breakbone, these people do not share our faith, but they do share our values. Gids have answered my prayers and ensured these brave people, having their own cause has helped me to get safe to camp Vengeance. My faith is strong with me and I will help people including humans do better in their holy mission
May 28, 2022 6:38 am
OOC:
Ruined armor is mechanically worthless. It is there to hint you about the dead body occupation in life.
Pacan see that Niles Breakbone manners shows his nobility. You feel his arrogance especially when Jim suggest to sit down at the table, Niles look at him in a way as if he is a king sitting on his chair.
As everyone in the tent try to speak convince commander and he is trying to make a decision Pacan feels something more than simple arrogance. Could it be despair, anger or even madness ?
Nevertheless he finally cry out "Fine then. If those people are no help to our cause any more I order them out of the camp immediately. And I hope Undril, you are indeed worth what they think you are. Let the gods be with us! Dismissed!"
May 28, 2022 7:34 am
Shara hangs back, letting the others handle this interaction, clearly intimidated by this outburst and insult to their party. The least she does is physically stand beside Nebula when the tiefling defends their gender and honor. The most she would say is her usual introduction ("Shara Sagelight, of the Conclave of Silverymoon") if anyone asks her first.

Shara is disappointed that they've been ordered out of the camp, which turns into a surprising and just rage. She may be quiet, but she is no idiot to stand by and let herself be insulted.

"With all due respect, Commander—or Chief?—what exactly have we weary travelers and guests of yours done to deserve such treatment?" She steps out from behind Nebula now, speaking with a an edge that slightly betrays true anger.

"I will refrain from a lecture on morality, but I do believe that you would do your Order proud by representing one of their main virtues—that of charity. Furthermore, I believe your colleague and our temporary companion may vouch for our character.

If we cannot stay in the camp, please at least afford us some of its protection as we rest nearby. I implore your good sense of justice and compassion as a member of the Order of the Gauntlet."

Shara freezes, mortified. That came out much more combative than she would have liked. Actually, she would have liked it to have never come out at all. Hopefully, she hadn't made their situation worse.

Niles Breakbone laughs a sad laughter.
Tomb riders will educate a man devoted his live to fight undead on the meaning of charity?! Do you think I don't know what are the goal of adventures taking risk to travel the jungles?!
This is my charity: my lecture to you:
Stay away from this camp it is attracting a lot of predators and undead. We may not risk opening gates to let you in together with undead armies. I am not risking lives on a hundred loyal and responsible people to save bunch of tomb riders not to help others
NOW. Ord Firebeard, please educate those bastards the meaning of DISMISSED.

Ord Firebeard put his hand on the long sword, and whispers please and ad in an authoritative voice Everyone - out!
Undril bows and gets out of the tent.
OOC:
I'm making a decision for PCs to comply with the order and get out of the then
Once out of the tent Ord Firebeard ask your forgives to Niles Breakbone sharp tongue. And shares following for you to understand what they have gone through the last we weeks:
A handful of warriors of the Order of the Gauntlet escaped the undead onslaught against Camp Righteous by retreating up the River Soshenstar. Three days later, they ended their retreat by digging in on this spot. Eventually they got word of their situation back to Port Nyanzaru, and they’ve since been reinforced since. Nevertheless reinforcements so far has only been sufficient to protect the camp, while their mission is to actively fight undead.
That I share with Breakbone: I did hope you would give some hope to the desperate guards in the camp. And you are asking of your protect instead - it was sad indeed.
May 29, 2022 9:19 am
OOC:
Do you want to do anything in the camp before leaving? Do you need to to recap what is there in the camp?
If you are leaving the camp - where will you be traveling to ?
May 29, 2022 9:22 am
Jim proceeds to leave the camp. Mule and all. Looks like it will be camping outside the camp.
May 30, 2022 6:02 am
Nebula accepts the explanation but her mind is unchanged. If they really wanted someone's help, it was always better to put one in a favourable light, than try to intimidate them into compliance.

He was perhaps correct though, maybe the camp would draw most of the undead attention if they camped not too far away.
OOC:
I don't think there's anything I want to do inside the camp, unless there's some opportunity to restock?
May 30, 2022 2:35 pm
Pacan keeps her face composed, barely, at the man's absolute incompetence at authority as they walk out of the camp.

If the hope was to give lifted spirits, issuing blind orders and making outrageous demands is not a good foot to start with. I wish you all the luck with the undead threat. Make sure to burn the bodies after, much harder to rise from ashes than corpses. Pacan says as they look to leave.
OOC:
Definitely good to leave. Pacan wouldn't spend another minute in the camp trying to restock with the way they were treated. She'd rather forage and possibly suffer than spend any more energy on Niles and his buffoonery.
May 31, 2022 6:18 am
OOC:
Boop says:
unless there's some opportunity to restock?
There are no market in the camp, but certain NPCs could be up to a deal or two, especially if the deal beneficial to them. But you need to Talk to a proper NPC. I bet you guess who is the wrong NPC to try to deal with.
Nevertheless I feel like we got stuck in story and will proceed
Undril says goodbye. I do not hurry to judge Niles Breakbone, just I don't judge you for plundering templar of Order of the Gauntlet you found in Latrines. I don't mean to educate you, but share my observation: being a half-orc with no power or wealth I've learned one lesson: people will not respect you, no matter what you say until do something good to them. Especially those devoted their lives to do good to others.
I guess Ord Firebeard wouldn't protect my position should I not heal his soldiers beforehand

Ord Firebeard, who is ensuring you leave camp hear that and can't disagree. "I guess the conversation could have ended different. But I am happy Niles Breakbone agreed to withdraw his unfounded demand for you to join the garrison. Treat this a good sign and let gods help you in these savage lands"

You leave the camp and move a mile away from it. The night is quite except for dinosaur roars you hear far away in the direction of the camp Vengeance.

Day 27. Morning.
You wake up next morning. It is raining heavy, but it is not a storm you have experienced once.
OOC:
Visibility is limited to some 500 foots, but it has no mechanical impact while in the jungles as you can't see even this much through the jungles.
EVERY ONE - Level Up!!! Your PCs are now lvl 3. Completing the side quest of helping Undril to get to the camp Vengeance was a checkpoint
According to the map jungle territory should change to plains if you follow river Soshernstar to the south, but there is an abandoned city of Mbala approximately to the south west. Undead territory stay to the South-East . All north directions seems to be endless jungles, free of undead.
OOC:
Please do your lvl up and vote/decide on direction/plan of your further travel. As far as I understand Jim is navigating again. Note that I will allow Haaroo to help Jim navigating rolling survival with advantage once you spend your first 30 days travelling and get used enough to both environment and each other

OOC:
Would Ord be willing to take some of the undead swords for some arrows, magic ink and paper wizards need for entering spells in spell book (incase there is any wizards in their group that has some paper to trade), potions, gold, notes on things we dont know about the local area? Ord is more than interested buying arrows as they are running out of them. They have enough of the swords of dead colleagues already. No wizards either.
As for information on the area ... he say scouts would have some information, but they are all out of the camp hunting food. And you have to be going unfortunately.

Pacan & Sharagwyn choose to ignore dinosours. They watch few smaller dinos come closed but a larger one comes and looks like it makes sure smaller ones move other way. And the night ends without any issues

Day 30.
Moving toward Mbala continues, but when you only make few miles you spot 2 allosaurus 100 yards away when the characters first notice. You have seen them before and know these are predators and you understand they are dashing your way. We will do a battle encounter now using theatre of the mind, i.e. assume you and your mules are all more or less together, but Allosaurs 300 feet away.
OOC:
Everyone Roll initiative! AND then announce your first round turn (action, movement, ba).
Allosaurs on their turn will dash your way covering 120 feet and be within 180 feet from where you are at the beginning of the battle. You could move forward of backward reducing or increasing that distance or stay where you are.
Based on your initiative roll you will know distance to the enemy by your turn. Ask me if anything is unclear.

It was indeed tricky for me to understand who is moving and who is not. Fact are those:
1. Because of Sharagwyn poor initiative roll she technically start moving after enemy, while other PCs move before them
2. Jim did not announce moving
3. @Tasrek you instructed me that you would like to remain in the front line, but frontline with Shara nad Jim is still there
4. @Dramasailor also instructed me "staying with Shara and Ha'aroo."
I had to decide between A. Everyone but Shara and Jim backs up, leaving them or B. pacan and Ha'aroo stay to protect Shara who were too slow to react and Jim who decided not to back up. I feel that I did the right decision, I'm sorry if I did not.

P.S. We still play encounter RAW: every creature do their turn in initiative order. I only ask you to describe your turn before waiting for other PCs even if their initiative is before yours. And I am accepting conditional instructions like "my PC moves if X happened by my PC turn in initiative order.
This battle encounter is actually designed to demonstrate how this is going to work in future, so I'm thankful for you to ask questions and share confusion if any.
Jun 2, 2022 8:49 pm
The moving before was to not start a combat with the apes. The situation here is different. Appears combat is going to happen no matter what and there no way to get the mules out safely rather than defending them. This most likely explains why Jim hasn't started backing up with his mule.

That and his hands are a bit busy to be leading a mule. He somehow expects the mule to be fine till the monsters are upon Jim. At that point he is fairly sure the mule will probably bolt and he isn't about to get dragged. (Nebula examples.) Better to just have to hunt it down.

Jim is actively considering the situation and is brave enough to stand for the attack. He recalls upon his clerical training to give him the best of the situation. (Cast faerie fire for advantage.) Perhaps him holding here will give the others chances. He is deliberating leaving himself in the lead for first hits.

Rather Jim is preparing to cast a Faerie Fire upon the monsters when in range 60'. DEX Save DC(12). Concentration.

Pacan keeps moving along with Ha'aroo, just until the dinosaurs get within her range. Gripping the sprig of holly she doesn't let out of her sight, she raises her hand into the air and speaks in the smooth flowing language of the druids, swirls of power coalescing in the air. With a bright burst, a silvery column of light slams into the nearest allosaur.

Seeing the allosaurs catching up with Jim and beginning to snap, Nebula calls out some cautious encouragement and some arcane words. She flings a ball of swirling miasmic energy at the injured beast, but it's hard to run back and aim at the same time.

To her surprise though, it seems the magic didn't fully exhaust and she has another opportunity to strike, and she does, hitting the second beast with a hefty force strike

Allosaurus

Allosourus hit by both frost and fire don't seem to even notice it (attack failed due to natural armor), but Jim slash his longsword and find a spot previously hit by magic... the wound is deep and Jim is soon covered in the blood of Allosaurus that falls right next to him. Jim, inspired by the kill cuts second allosaurus and it cries. Moonbeam reaches it and it decided to just run away from you
OOC:
You could do one more turn : Jim could do attack of opportunity, everyone - one ranged attack before fast running beast is our of reach you may manage to kill it before it runs away.

Jim has been showing off his dear combat prowess and his bravery. Jim doesn't mind risking his life as he believes that he will get some benefit from it in the end. That and looks like he is going to need to clean up after this battle as he is well cover in blood. By the way, get a fire and we have Steak to eat instead of ration. Jim has some salt to make some jerky for traveling too.

Tribal warrior

You watch how wounded beast runs into the jungle when several dark skinned humans appear from jungles and finishes it off throwing their spears
[ +- ] They look like this
Humans cry you something in the language you don't know.

Scout

They look uncivilised and aggressive, but then a women, dressed civilised steps out of woods and cry: Who are you? Could we have a conversation?

But a few moments later you hear the familiar voice of Undril and can relax. She introduce you to the scouting/hunting party from port Vengeance. Tribal warriors teach you how to properly cook allosourus (it takes at least 3 hours to make sure meat is soft enough).

She also shares that the man in charge of camp Vengeance appeared to be not flexible, but otherwise good man and he is now sorry for his behaviour towards the party. Situation is still poor and she had to accompany hunting party to ensure their safety.
Anyhow you gather as much meat as you could manage to eat before it spoils and the Tribal people take the rest and you have to say good-buy again.

Suddenly Travers announce that he will join camp Vengenace and help Undril with all the problems... It is obvious half-orc have feeling and you can't do anything about it, so you will have to continue your journey without Travers. You also learn that you have been making circle around the camp and are close to the camp right now.
OOC:
I would like to let you do any role-play or social interaction with the NPCs by next story progress post after about 24 hours, when you will continue your travel toward Mbala.
Jun 9, 2022 9:03 pm
As Travers talks about wanting to go back to Camp Vengeance Ha'aroo debates on what has been pulling at his heart for the past week or so. The question of what if we just walked right past the place that had the soulmonger and continued on without destroying it? It had undead nearby like Syndra said, it was a ruin like Syndra said, and it was unexplored so who knows if there was anything needed deep within the House of the Man and Crocodile temple that they left behind. "I think I am going to go back also." Ha'aroo stammered out. "I could not live with myself if Lasme died just because I got too tired of figuring out the traps that protected the soulmonger." He looks down at his feet. "I just wouldnt be able to live with myself"

He walks over to his mule and puts in the bow and arrows and takes out the warhammer and waterskins as well as a few personal items. "If you dont mind I would really like to take the warhammer to see if I can either crack down those traps or at least make a hole in the back of the temple and get inside from the back. Ill leave you with the rest of the stuff as I bought some of this stuff for the group and other stuff was taken to be divided by the group."
OOC:
On the mule is a chest, and inside the chest is 15 insect repellants (the kind that protect an area and not just an individual), 1 2 person tent, 1 rain catcher; 9 shortswords, 4 shortbows and 12 arrows.
Ha'aroo hangs about until the group is ready to press on to Mbala and then he heads back to the Man and Crocodile house to see what he can find and hopefully end this curse.

When Travers announced his departure, Shara's heart was heavy. Now Ha'aroo was leaving, and there was a very real chance she wouldn't see either again. Even if Ha'aroo promised that he would return, the jungle had proven itself to be unpredictably dangerous. Though she'd only known them for a month, she was heartbroken to see her friends go.

"Travers," she says, "take care. Ha'aroo, may our paths cross again. Please stay safe, both of you."

After that, she turns her attention to the conversation with the scouts. Unlike with her friends, she takes no charge in this conversation, simply listening and speaking when spoken to.

After the respite ends, she says her final goodbyes to the departing companions.

Jim seems less than happen that Ha'aroo is leaving. Although he is understanding it, it still doesn't set well with him. Well friend. Our paths will cross again. Do good. Jim is simple about it knowing really he can't change his mind.
Jun 10, 2022 5:45 am
Nebula cries at the announcements, and it takes some time to comfort her into a state where she can speak clearly again.
"You have to make sure to be safe! Okay?! We're all going to see each other again, when we have a big party back at the port!"
She wipes her eyes and waves goodbye, sad but accepting of their decisions.
Jun 10, 2022 5:46 am
OOC:
I've decided to use game rule 1. You are not 100% in control of your PC and Narrate PC actions that will lead to meaningful result
When Ha'aroo remind of "what Syndra has said" Shara recall that she suggested to seek temples of life and death related deities.
Her high intelligence allow here to deduce Tribal warriors being natives should have some intel on the man and Crocodile shrine
It turns out aborigines have vague knowledge. Nevertheless they do all remember a story. Based on that story Pacan figure out that it was some sort of druidic shrine devoted to beast and humanoid coexistence in harmony.
[ +- ] Story told by aborigines

Jim have a gut feeling that the story - being the only but so well rooted in natives - could somehow be a key to disable the traps. Or at least a hint.

Undril suggest to accompany Ha'aroo to the camp Righteous. If you don't mind make a stop and camp Vengenace I will ensure we are sent on a mission to check undead at the camp Righteous. The scout (name Santa) is a child if jungles she will help to make it safe there and back.
Jun 13, 2022 12:33 pm
To Move Onward with the Story:

Jim's view is to either move on now or spend some time with the natives. And the latter is the choice as it does include have STEAK. So, a bit of a party with the natives and cooking of the meat makes a good time. Jim will hand out a one-pound bag of his trinkets. For encouragement of knowledge and such. As well as to show we are good friends. Perhaps even talk Nebula into dancing for bit. Entertainment is nice. Jim intends to make a party of it.

I know Nebula likes to dance, but unsure about Shara & Pacan. Jim really doesn't know them well at all. Jim misses the fact of a good drink during the party. At least while Ha'aroo is here, Jim is sure he will dance too. Be the last perhaps the two are together. Jim himself isn't very active during parties. He is more the one to sit back and drink and chat, but drinking is on the min this time.

With quick math, Jim now figures he is going to be heading back with just Nebula, Shara, and Pacan.

What does Jim learn during the tribal party?
