Part 2: The Bacta Run
Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.
"Obviously the more we get the more he pays us, but too little and it isn't worth the effort or risk while too much reduces out chances of success, which in turn reduces profit. So we will need to find a sweet spot with which we are comfortable."
"These are things which will help us determine a suitable strategy."
"As far as an answer to your questions, Thes, we're going to need eyes on the site before we can know how best to approach it."
His internal conflict is disturbed by the folk approaching them at the ramp of the ship. This doesn't look good. Jack, standing at the top of the ramp, turns and hooks his thumbs into his belt. He keeps his hands close to his holstered blasters. He narrows his eyes at the people who have approached them, trying to get a read on their intentions.
"Streetwise represents a character's instinct for how to pick up on subtle cues from the language and attitudes of those who operate outside of legal structures. It may be used to understand subtle references within conversations."
Jack is specifically pondering if these guys would be Quin Telsh's thugs, if there is a way to determine that.

Standing with Jack at the top of the ramp, he slips his hand under his robes and grip the hilt of a blaster the Crew hasn't yet seen him use. He used to bullseye training droids at the snooty training facility back on Coruscant. Those lessons had cost him plenty, perhaps it was time to see if those credits and hours had been well spent...

It is at this point that all of you realize that you haven't actually seen Ada in quite some while. She might be on the ship...or perhaps she never came back from the cantina.
Jack knows that the only way to de-escalate the situation is to give the thugs what they want, or prove you don't have it. If Ava's not on the ship, showing that would probably be enough to send them on their way. If she is, then only a show of greater power will cause them to back down.
In an effort to stall and give Jack time to properly hide Ada, Savi walks down the ramp with his arms wide and a disarming smile smeared across his face. "Gentlemen, we have a schhedule to keep and are rather pressed for time. Please allow me to show you around our vessel. You'll see we are not harboring the person for whom you search."
With a nod to Avox, he continues, "My friend here is not a fan of armed strangers coming aboard our ship, as I'm sure you'd understand. It is clear you are wise to the ways of the galaxy. We would never expect to board your ship fully armed. So, would you rather leave your arms with a compatriot who remains here, or would you prefer to keep your arms and send one person on board to search. That one person could, of course, keep his arms too."
Savi smiles broadly and raises his eyebrows awaiting their answer.

Savi strolls back toward the common room and puts a question out to the group. "Who's the best at astrogation here? Jack could use a hand. Bo?"

The playful jab is followed by a slightly farther away, "...and I occasionally talk too much."

Floating in this narrow band are a number of cities and towns; the most famous by far is the capital: Cloud City.

The Horizon Chaser is easily granted permission to dock at the city; millions of visitors come every year to enjoy its resorts, spas, and casinos.

The first 50 levels are full of these tourist destinations, but you are headed deeper, into the residential area of Port Town. Your contact runs a pawn shop there, which you are able to find with little difficulty.
That said, Savi was ready to step in to play either good cop or bad depending on what Jack might need. Kiph seems a straightforward type, but making assumptions in this galaxy based on appearances was a quick way to a nasty end.
Jack smiles, keeping his hands shown. "I'm Jack. My associates and I recently made friends with a nice woman on Dantooine who said we should come here if we needed medical supplies. She said you might be able to tell us how to acquire them cheaply?" Jack's smile took on a different meaning with the tone of his voice.

"That should start you off." He looks toward the rest of the team for their input.

"I've got some more questions, but... what about you guys?" Jack turns to the others, "What are your thoughts?"
After a pause..."How often do they "send out crates"? To where do they send them, typically. And how many people accompany a crate when they ship them out? Do they take them straight out on transports or do they first ferry them to a spaceport to be loaded?"
Savi stops rapid firing questions realizing he's giving Kiph way too much to digest at once. He has more questions, but is content to get some answers before slamming the poor Ithorian with even more.
He raises a finger and asks, "Okay, how about some employees? Names, addresses if you have them, whatever you've got. People that work in or for the warehouse. Guards are good, too, but specifically I want people that process shipments."
He turns to the others, "If we can get some dirt on a few choice employees - maybe follow them around and figure out what we can about them - then we can make a fake shipment order. We can let them load up the shuttle for us, hit them in that moment and hijack it." He snaps his fingers, "Then we fly it to the Chaser. It's all the same karking stuff we would've had to do anyway, but we let them do the first half for us." He holds his hands out to the side as if to say 'whattaya think?' to the others.
He grins. "That's just a variation on a theme. A backup plan. I like the general idea though, Jack. It's not overly complex, which is where plans usually go wrong, yet it's devious and a bit vicious. Remind me never to piss you off." He chuckles.
"Either way works. I liked making our own shipment since that meant we could choose exactly how much bacta we wanted. Problem is that we're trusting our threats - blackmail, bribes or otherwise - to hold strong. Need to make sure we're not double crossed, so my plan banks on some good dirt that we could dig up." He shrugs halfheartedly, "It's a start, at least."
"Either way there is risk and payout. Which poison tastes best? I'm genuinely fine with either. As I suggested before, mine serves as a decent back up plan for if we don't dig up any usable dirt."
Though he speaks to Kiph, he looks at Bo, "I think we'll be able to get the device wherever we need, if you can point us in the right direction." He seems to look for confirmation from the Rodian.
"That's all that I have for now. Unless these others have questions, I'm good to let you get back to your work," Jack explains, looking curiously at the others. He slips the device into a pocket on his jacket.
She does state "Impwials typicwee don't unifohm Wodians. I might not be of use on the instawation. I can ahways swice from dah ship or swip by somehow."
He shrugs, "I think it might be best if you could get this device onto one of the computers sometime after their hours of operation."

Unsure just how long he needs to stall these people, but certain their patience will wear thin sooner rather than later, Savi steps aside in such a way as to both clear a path down the street for them while simultaneously stepping inbetween them and thhe recruitment station. If they wish to head that way he will, fumblingly, be in their way.
She turns to Savi and nods. "Understood, citizen. The empire is always looking for good recruits who know their value."
She pauses for a moment before continuing, "He's not wrong, though. Might want to tone it down when you talk to the recruiter."
She gives you another nod, as does her companion, before they continue down the corridor past the office.
Savi watches the troopers continue down the street. Unsure whether he did a good job of deflecting a threat, or just prolonged one by keeping the patrol hanging around longer than they would have, he returns to his bench and takes out his datapad.

One of the profiles catches his eye and he ponders, "Melleriana Spince. Disgruntled assistant, fed up with her boss doesn't sound too far-fetched." He looks up to Kiph and asks, "Do you know anything about any of these folk to point us in the right direction here? Wouldn't happen to have any dirt on anyone here, would you?"
After pondering for a moment he looks to the whole crew, "Should we investigate this list one at a time or should we split up and investigate a few at once? "What I mean is we could pose as ISB, just as an example, and either pretend to have something on them already and make them divulge what we already "know" then make them dance for our discretion, or come to them because we have a unique opportunity for advancement or to help the "cause" and recruit them into preforming a clandestine operation for the Empire."

The Sullustan shakes his jowls in frustration, "No one knows. Stupid medical droids. Only programed with human and Gamorean illnesses. But they're all I can afford." In cross-referencing the list of names you obtained with notable activity on the Holonet, I noticed an anonymous bounty to "find and retrieve" three individuals: a male adult human and two hatchlings, all with the last name Pele. What is interesting about that is that these are the family members of Vara Pele, who works at the warehouse. She continues to arrive at work, and has not made a ‘missing persons’ report for her family, who have not been seen in the past two days. School reports for the children indicate that they are ill."
He immediately throws up a hand to forestall a response, "Nevermind, I probably don't want to know. The other messages of import convey that the two of them are scheming to supplant the Commander by implicating him in some fictional wrongdoing. Most ingenious, really."

At the mention of the Mechanic he glances at Jack before shrugging "Doesn't really change the plan, we need to get this done before the real ISB show up anyway and as soon as we have done we're not sticking around" he thinks for a moment "Perhaps we can turn the situation to our advantage and stick some of the fallout from boosting the bacta onto this 'mechanic'....can't for the life of me think how we'd do that right this second but it would be nice if we could swing things that way."
He turns to Doc at the mention of it, and just nods his head, trying to uphold a composed appearance.
"Bo. Savi. Either of you listening in?"
The initial panic that grips Savi's mind is immediately squashed by his long years of diplomatic training. His was a mind honed for control, and it kicked in more sternly when the cause for alarm was elevated.
He took a breath. Think...
His best bet was to remain calm, keep his breathing steady and under control, and listen carefully to the goings on outside the container. He needed information...
She rolls about looking for any signs of what happened
After a moment the lid of the container is lifted off, and glowing yellow eyes peer down at Savi. Metal arms reach for him and he is unceremoniously lifted out of the box and deposited on the floor. Groggily looking around, Savi sees dim light and permacrete walls, and a very odd assortment of droids. He lifts his head to see the brown robe and angry amber eyes of a jawa, gesticulating wildly and chittering.
A battered protocol droid, its sheen long worn off, responds to the tirade, "But master, this IS the man you were looking for. He meets every parameter you set. Human male, facial hair, crew of the Horizon Chaser."
The jawa responds derisively.
The protocol droid stands up, looking affronted. "I certainly do not think they all look alike. I am programmed with advanced diplomatic and cultural recognition....or at least I used to be..." it trails off. It turns to gesture to Savi, "You there! What is your name?"
Looking around, Bo sees that she is at the top of the ramp of the Horizon Chaser. The parts she bought are scattered all around her. The only sign of Savi is his blaster, sitting inches from Bo.
The com rings for a disturbingly long time before you hear Bo's voice respond.
"What's my name?" He thrusts a forefinger into the chestplate of the battered droid, "You're a protocol droid! You've kidnapped a law abiding citizen, subjected him to the most inhumane treatment, then have the audacity to demand his identity? Supposing that's too much to ask, I'll be satisfied with your pointing me to the nearest exit."
As the room stands stunned, he jolts them out of their slack-jawed gaping with an authoritarian "Now!"
Bo is able to get the general area for the signal; a warehouse district two levels up. Perhaps if she was able to get closer...
One of the droids steps forward, unphased by Savi's authority, "Observation: You are not Jack Fenn. Imperative: You will call Jack Fenn and direct him to deliver himself to us, unarmed and alone." It hefts a nasty looking blaster rifle, "Statement: If you do not, we will terminate you now."

He takes in a brief breath and settles himself, "They were ticked I wasn't the barve they were after. Glad you all showed up when you did. My mouth was about to get me shot, I think."
Turning to show the group his bound hands behind his back he adds, "I know I can be a pain, but any chance one of you could help me out of these?"
"You, droid," Jack snaps, looking at the protocol droid, "What's your purpose here? What's your part in kidnapping?"
It looks back and forth between Jack and Savi with evident surprise before sagging once more. "Oh dear. No wonder the Master left me behind."
He turns from the droid and shoots Jack a quick grin to let the smuggler know he's none the worse for wear and no blame or hard feelings exist on his side. "They were after you, bud. So I'll defer to you and how you want to play this, but clearly there has to be some action taken here, no?"

I'm thinking we need to downsize the scope of this plan for now." For a moment, Jack chews on his lip, "We need to be quick. The IDs and uniforms will get us in. We just need to move out as quick as we can afterward. Be in and out before they realize that they were robbed. As much as I hate to say it, without Avox' big head soaking lasers, we won't be able to handle a fight, if it comes to that."
Bo turns to the droid, "Wooks wike we ah waborers, tetahi-iti". Meaning little one in Rodian. "We will go to Kiph Wok to see if he has respirators"
Kiph is able to supply the respirators, at 10c each instead of the usual 25.

The voices grown nearer and the door to the office hisses open, revealing two very surprised human males. The older one is corpulent, with slicked black hair and his uniform jacket hanging undone. Jack, you recognize him from the ID resting in your pocket as Kael Jcor - occupant of this office and Commander of the base. His companion is taller and heavily muscled, his uniform pristine.
Jcor quickly recovers his oily smile and begins hastily doing up his jacket. "Officers! You are early! I wasn't expecting you for another hour. But of course you are welcome...." at this he notices Bo's work with the panel and turns an unbecoming shade of green.
His smile grows shaky as he returns his gaze to Doc and Jack, "How can I be of assistance?"
"Sirs, my work is complete. Nothing else seems out of place other than the previous irregularities I detected.
Jcor dry-washes his hands as Doc speaks, looking increasingly nervous. His companion remains stoic except for a sneer at Bo.
When Doc finishes, Jcor nods enthusiastically and gestures to his left. "Yes, yes of course. Right this way officers."
He leads the way through the double doors at the end of the hallway into a room with two computer stations. He waves at them as you pass and says in explanation, "Inventory processing." He continues into the warehouse proper, where there are two large sealed vats, and rows of crates stacked. On the opposite side is a series of large doors, big enough for vehicles to enter. The warehouse is quiet at this time of night, but you can hear the strains of some music from a distant corner.
Bo inspects the crates and finds that they are clearly labelled with their contents. Carefully organized and stacked by type, all of the crates have bacta in them; the only difference is how it is packaged. Some contain bacta patches, some packs, and others seem to be barrels of bacta to be used for tanks.
Jcor brightens and smiles, "But of course! Right this way." He leads Jack over to the large doors, explaining that they ship by a variety of methods to the various Imperial installments in the city as well as to orbiting ships.
We can probably use the loading droids to get it onto the transport.
Jack slips the card back into a pocket on his own uniform, "We need to have a.. lengthier discussion about this. Await me in your office. We'll be going over your financial accounts, so get those out. I expect that they are impeccable."

With a scowl, Jcor follows. He nods to his subordinate, indicating he should stay and keep an eye on the other two.
The man gives a brisk nod, "Yes sir, right this way sir." He leads the way across the warehouse to a smaller door on the same wall as the larger ones. With a swipe of his card, the door opens and he gestures you through.
On the other side a stormtrooper stands with a blaster rifle pointed at the open door. Your guide says, "At ease, Terris," and the trooper salutes and goes back to watching the outside docking bay. The docking bay is broad, with room for a small ship or many smaller vehicles. At the far end from where you stand there is an iris centered in a large wall, presumably leading out into the atmosphere of Bespin.
At this time of the evening, the bay is empty save for a single cargo skiff.

He turns to Doc, "The Commander has been acting secretive lately, working odd hours and communicating directly with workers rather than going through the chain of command. Knowing that you were coming tonight, I decided it would be best if he was not the only one here to show you around. It looks as though I was right." He hands J'cor's blaster back to the trooper, and tosses the other to Jack.
"I was just following orders. You can take to my commander if you like?"

The officer walks over to the crates and gestures to the mechanic to join him. He calls over his shoulder, "Get back on duty, and someone turn that blasted alarm off." The troopers salute and half of them jog off toward the open bay door. The rest scatter inside the warehouse, aside from two that follow the officer. One of them says, "Sir, there was one other thing. Several doors in the compound are on lockdown...and we didn't do that."

The sordid task Chusk had called him in to do while they were still on this world, at the worst possible time, was weighing on him. After constantly berating the others for slacking off, he was the one to vanish when he was needed. He waved them in as they pulled up to the chaser. He was ready to start hauling crates in as soon as they stopped. He also tried to greet them, but the words choked in his throat. Instead he merely nodded and grunted at them.

The ship lifts and banks, and Jack notices that the landing ramp is still down so keys the control to retract it. He and Doc can hear the protocol droid calling something from the cargo hold, but both are focused on their tasks and ignore him for the moment.
As the ship leaps toward the welcoming vastness of the atmosphere, it is rocked by an explosion. For a moment, billowing smoke blocks the view of the docking bay, but then it clears and Bo and Avox are able to see that the remaining pile of crates that they had pilfered from the warehouse have been replaced with a blackened crater, bodies scattered all around.
Jack focuses on keeping the ship steady as it rockets out of the bay, and Doc is riveted by the alerts flashing across his screen:
NOTICE – CRIMINALS HAVE ATTACKED AN IMPERIAL FACILITY. THEY ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD NOT BE APPROACHED. NOTIFY THE AUTHORITIES IMMEDIATELY IF YOU SEE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS.
There are three faces that appear rotating on the screen that are very recognizable: two Human males and a Rhodian female…three fifths of the crew of the Horizon Chaser.
