Chapter 2 - Phandalin

Mar 3, 2021 1:42 am
You retrace your steps out of the cave and manage to exit without alerting any of the remaining inhabitants of your presence. Once outside Sildar, who is still struggling a bit after his ordeal, takes a quick seat in the open area just outside to catch his breath.

"A shame we couldn't clear this place before our departure, but perhaps it's for the best. We can at least inform others of the location and take care of it at a later time. For now, once we've reached Phandalin I will try and find an old friend of mine, Iarno Albrek. From what I understand he's been away from Phandalin for a while and hasn't been heard from. I'd expect he'd be back within the next few days. He would be the one to question about the location of this castle the goblins are using."

A few more deep breaths and Sildar is back on his feet. Obviously still weak, the man trudges on along through the hidden goblin trail and onto the Triboar trail.

It takes several hours by foot to travel the distance to Phandalin and Sildar does his best to keep both his and everyone else's spirits up by telling tales of his past. It's actually quite refreshing as the man is clearly practiced in the art of storytelling; a welcome change from your previous companion Tyr.

With the sun starting to get low in the sky the trail emerges from a wooded hillside and you catch your first glimpse of Phandalin. The town consists of forty or fifty simple log buildings, some built on old fieldstone foundations. More old ruins-crumbling stone walls covered in ivy and briars-surround the newer houses and shops, showing how this must have been a much larger town in centuries past. Most of the newer buildings are set on the sides of the cart track, which widens into a muddy main street of sorts as it climbs toward a ruined manor house on a hillside at the east side of town.

Walking into the town you notice your wagon, empty of supplies, sits in front of a large building - Barthen's Provisions. It seems that young Tyr was good on his word to deliver the goods in your absence.

Sildar, looking more at ease now that he is in town, tosses his acquired short sword and shield to the ground. "I shall re-equip myself tomorrow, but for now I must rest and recover. Let us meet at the Stonehill Inn in the morning, in fact, let me secure us each a room there. Consider it a down payment on your escort fee, which I will have for you no later than tomorrow afternoon.
OOC:
You are in the town of Phandalin, just outside of Barthen's Provisions. The sun is just starting to set but you do have some time to poke around town if you wish. There will be rooms waiting for you at Stonehill Inn when you are ready to retire for the evening.

Kerisha grumps her way out of the cave and all the way to Phandalin. She listens to Sildar's stories, eager to hear about great battles and even greater monsters. But she is still not happy about leaving without her bugbear fur coat.

Phandalin is a bit overwhelming for the orc. The hustle and bustle of ordinary folk. The strange looks she gets. The confined buildings. Orel can sense the uneasiness inside her. He's seen it before. She is used to being outside, the fresh air and all the space you could wish for. Kerisha tries to find anywhere the Emerald Enclave are set up. Or even another member on a hunt, just so she can be outside until it's time to bed down.
Mar 4, 2021 8:40 pm
Walking into the city, Gerbo feels at home in the bustle. He glances over the offerings at the provision store, and considers haggling with the owner for fun, but decides he will wait until he gets paid enough to actually buy something. In the meantime, he gives a mock salute to the party and scampers off to find a bar to run a con in. Upon finding a bar, he will attempt to find either people gambling or an unsuspecting drunkard with a fat purse.

OOC:
Anyone else investigating the town? New post going up this afternoon.
Mar 5, 2021 6:36 pm
OOC:
Belanor will pass on the exploration for the day and spend time to rest.
Mar 5, 2021 8:17 pm
While most of the people in the village don't appear to be outright hostile, or particularly pleased, by Kerisha's presence there are three notable exceptions:

1. In the middle of town was a small open shrine tended to by a young female elf. As you walked by she smiled and greeted you with "May Tymora's luck find you."

2. At the end of the main street was a rundown looking tap house by the name of The Sleeping Giant. Four rough looking humans who were sitting on empty ale barrels under the covered front porch glared intensely at you as you walked by. They're were all dressed in similar grimy scarlet cloaks.

3. On the southeast edge of town you encountered a halfling and her rambunctious child in front of their small farm. The women introduced herself as "Qelline" as you walked by while trying to keep her son from bothering you about a tunnel he found while playing "adventurer" in the woods near the farm.
Gerbo's scampering about turns up a couple of possible locations for him to practice his craft. The first is the Stonehill Inn, which is more of a welcoming tavern than a bar, and the location which Sildar has acquired rooms for everyone in the group.

The second is the rundown The Sleeping Giant at the end of the main road. The same four men who glared at Kerisha as she went by earlier are still there given a very similar look to Gerbo. If there was any place where patrons would be gambling, this is most likely it.
Walking into the newly built roadhouse, Belanor finds that the common room has a few locals nursing mugs of ale or cider, but is otherwise quiet. A short, friendly human male behind the counter smiles and asks if he can help you.
OOC:
Also remember that you are all owed money for the delivery to Barthen's Provisions.

"Nothing much right now. Just trying to recover from a long and arduous travel. It wasn't what I was made for." Belanor says while settling in to the counter. "A pint of one of those sounds good." Belanor says as he points to the barrel of cider.
Mar 6, 2021 6:03 pm
"We get our share of travelers coming through here, that's for sure." the bartender says as he places a fresh pint of cider in front of Belanor.

"Three copper, friend. And a bit of advice to you if you plan on staying for more than a day or so."

He leans in and gives a quick glance around before quietly advising. "Watch out for the men around town in the dark red cloaks, they ain't nothing but trouble!"

Just as he starts to lean back away an older gentleman, dressed in well worn work clothes who sits just a few seats down, slaps his hand on the bar. "Toblen. A mug of ale when ya get a chance, eh!." The bartender gives Belanor a quick nod and a smile and responds to the other man, "Coming right up, Narth!
OOC:
Remember that you are all owed money for the delivery to Barthen's Provisions. Tyr most like has collected it.
Remember that you are all owed money from Sildar for the escort back to Phandalin.

Belanor is having himself a pint.
Kerisha can choose where she would like to go. Also, is her in-progress finger necklace visible to others?
Gerbo can choose where he would like to go.
Orel can investigate around or retire for the evening.

Gerbo, seeing the grumpy red cloaks, makes an exaggerated bow and strides past them into the Sleeping Giant. Upon entering, he will head toward the bar, looking as he walks for an easy mark.
Mar 7, 2021 4:36 pm
As Gerbo starts to the approach the four men, one of them stands from his barrel to block the way.

"You lost, Puppy?

The other men quicky follow suit, each standing and making a show of the fact that they are well armed.

"Did you come here to bark, Puppy?" the first man growls, leaning over just a bit to emphasize the height difference between himself the outnumbered gnome.
Mar 8, 2021 10:28 am
As Kerisha moves around town, she pays no mind to any strange looks she gets. Even the four men outside the tavern don’t get a second look. As she moves past the shrine in the centre of towm, she believes that she has already received Tymora's luck finding the Emerald Enclave and the friendship of Orel, but a little more could never hurt. "And you" she responds with a tusky smile.

What is of most interest to Kerisha is the little boy who has been "adventuring" and found a tunnel in the woods. "It is ok" She reassures Qelline that she is not at all bothered by her son. If anything, it would be nice to be out of town and back in the woods. She takes a knee next to the boy "You are brave." She ruffles his hair. "We adventure together? You show me tunnel?"
OOC:

Kerisha is proud of her achievements, and the goblin finger necklace is a trophy. She would be wearing it along with Glarts tooth.
Mar 8, 2021 3:25 pm
Being used to this kind of thing and knowing where it usually leads, Gerbo makes a mental note to come back and cause some trouble for the bullies when the numbers were a bit more even. He backs off and gives another exaggerated bow."Beg your pardon, kind sirs. I was looking for a good time, but it appears this is a private establishment. I'll just be on my way."
OOC:
I'll be on my way to see what's going on at the good bar.

CaveJohnson says:
OOC:
its like dusk time right now?
OOC:
Yes, it's starting to get dark out. I have a post ready to go, but will hold for a while in case there's something you'd like to do at the bar first.
Mar 9, 2021 12:05 am
OOC:
oh no just drink my drink and I'll have to wait till morning to go to the shop. (I assume most shops close at dusk).
"Tender. Where would one find acceptable lodgings. I am unprepared and didn't have lodgings provided for."
Mar 9, 2021 12:39 am
Grinning ear to ear the young halfling looks towards his mother, his eyes make it clear that he's silently begging for her approval to go adventuring with Kerisha.

Qelline takes a moment to think things over, but reluctantly agrees. "It's getting pretty late Carp, so you'll have to be quick about it! We don't want to bother the nice lady any more than you already have."

In stuttering Orcish Qelline says, "I follow from distance. If trouble have him run to me."

Eager to set off on his first real adventure, Carp bolts forward through the family's field and into some nearby woods. Once there, he slows his pace and crouches low to the ground. Within a few minutes he stops and points to a thicket. In a whispered voice he looks up to Kerisha.

"A few uglies came out of there the last time I was here. I hid good so they didn't see me. I bet that tunnel goes to the old manor house.

He produces a small pointed stick which he kept tucked in his belt and arms himself, ready for action!
Determining that discretion is the better part of valor, Gerbo departs from the Sleeping Giant under the continued verbal assault from the cloaked men. Eventually a new target crosses their path and they turn their wrath away from the Gnome.

Entering the Stonehill Inn, Gerbo finds a few locals in the main room nursing their drinks. They all give a quick glance in the gnome's direction before going back to their drinks. At the bar sits Belanor and a few seats from him an older gentlemen. The barkeep and Belanor appear to be having a conversation.
"Well, Sir, we're the only real lodgings in town. Unfortunately Sir Hallwinter has purchased all of the rooms tonight for him and his guests." He reaches below the bar and pulls out a ledger.

"Yep all occupied for the evening." the man confirms to Belanor.
OOC:
You know Sir Hallwinter is Sildar, who mentioned securing lodgings for the group when you arrive in town.

Mar 9, 2021 2:05 am
Walking over to Belanor, Gerbo calls out "Hey Belly! Is that you?" If a seat is available next to him, Gerbo will climb up onto it and order a drink, "You got any Gnomish gin? If so, I'll take one and a plate of dwarvish game hen, if it's not too much to ask. When asked about payment, he'll flash a grin and tell him to put it on Sildar's tab. "Same with my room."

Orel will let the others go on ahead while he considers heading into Barthen's Provisions. Tyr probably has the money, but it couldn't hurt to check, right?

He starts towards the store before he even notices how late it is. He spent most of the walk here in a sort of trance, and his jaw aches from grinding his teeth.

Orel sighs. What he needs is sleep, not coin. He makes his way towards the Stonhill Inn at an almost tentative pace. When he arrives he'll flop into a seat near Gerbo & Belanor and ask the Barkeep for a key to his room.

"Oh, and, while I have you, you wouldn't know anything about a castle near here, would you?"
Mar 9, 2021 8:55 pm
Belanor is surprised that his escort arrived so quickly.
"Thats not right, You should at least pay for your own meal."
Mar 10, 2021 12:13 am
He'll get over it. He didn't look like he was missing any meals.Gerbo shrugs as he drums his fingers on the table. "We saved his bacon, now he's buying ours. It's only fair."
Mar 10, 2021 12:20 am
"If I recall, he said something about lodging and a collection of payment. Not room and meal and payment. Haven't you hear of a verbal contract or 'your word'"

Who am I to lecture someone on verbal contracts. I don't even remember what he said about lodging. I don't remember where to find him. Perhaps I've hit my limit for remembering things today.
Mar 10, 2021 1:46 am
The bartender makes it plainly clear that "Sir HillWinter" didn't open a tab and that he merely purchased rooms for the evening and that unless your name is on the list provided by "Sir HillWinter" that there are no rooms to be had.

"We are serving food for a little while longer, though, and I'd be happy to serve you."
The bartender shakes his head "NO" and starts to respond to Orel but before he can get a word out of his open mouth a barmaid appears seemingly out of thin air. "You should talk to Daran the orchard keeper, former adventurer, he is! He knows all about things like castles and such."

Gerbo shrugs again. Worth a shot. "I'll still take the gin and the hen, if you've got it. The name "Gerbo Minglehop" should be on that list, somewhere. If not, well then I'm small and I'll just curl up at the foot of Belly's bed like a dog, I suppose." He slaps Belanor's back, enjoying prickling his proper attitude with his antics.

Suddenly, a thought crosses his mind. "Say, barkeep, what's with the grubby red buggers at the Sleeping Giant? They're not really the nice sort, I noticed."

"Hmmm, let's see...Gerbo you say... ah, yes! Seems there is a room waiting for you." Toblen reaches down below the counter and hands the gnome a key. "I'd be happy to get that food right out to you!" he says cheerfully.

His demeanor quickly changes, however, when asked about "red buggers".

"The Redbrands!" he spits out in disgust. "They've been terrorizing this town for some time and damned town-master won't do a thing about them. I try to stay out of their way, don't won't them messing with my wife or kids."
Mar 10, 2021 8:58 pm
Kerisha nods to Qelline. She has no intention of leading the boy into harm's way. She merely wants to investigate what he has found.

She follows Carp through the field to the woods, being sure to keep a close eye on the boy. When he points out the thicket, she crouches low next to him. "You found this by yourself? You are very good." She gives Carp another smile as he draws his pointy stick. "It's ok, we are just looking today. I know people who can help us fight. The uglies, where did they go when you saw them?"
Mar 10, 2021 9:14 pm
"I'm not sure where they went, but they looked l like the bad guys that hang out by the bar. Mom doesn't let me go anywhere near there, but I'll be ready to fight them with your friends!"

He lowers his voice even more....

"Just don't tell mom!"
Mar 11, 2021 8:50 pm
Still kneeling next to Carp, Kerisha screws up her nose and the mention of the bad guys. "Red cloaks? You are right... They are ugly!"

She motions Carp back towards the farm and walks him back to Qelline. "You need to do special job. Protect your mom. She cannot protect herself. Someone brave must look after her."

Kerisha smiles at Qelline, who is relieved that Carp is back in one piece. Kerisha speaks to her in orcish "Do these men give you trouble? Do you know any more about them? I will get my friends and we will stop them if they do."
Mar 11, 2021 9:36 pm
OH?! His names on the list! Perhaps mine could be too.

Upon the consumption of his meal. Belanor will pay for the drink(s) and meal for Gerbo and himself. Belanor would also inquire if his name was on that list for a room.
Mar 11, 2021 11:03 pm
Toblen confirms that both Belanor and Orel are also on the list and hands each a key to their rooms.
It takes moment for Qelline to fully understand what Kerisha is saying but she manages to work it out.

"These men have been causing all sort of trouble around town. Everyone is just too scared to confront them. Carp and I just stay out of their way. If you were able to rid the town of them, you'd certainly make a lot of friends here, and probably never have to pay for a meal again."

The halfling calls out to her son "Why don't you head in, Carp, and make sure everything is safe in there." She throws a wink to Kerisha as Carp run off to secure the homestead, pointy stick at the ready.

"Speaking of meals, it's time to eat. You're welcome to join us if no one is waiting for you."
Mar 11, 2021 11:11 pm
"Great, Thank you for the meal." Belanor turns to the others. "I'll be seeing you in the morning. Also we need to seek out Tyr before its to late and he runs off with our payment."
He clasps Gerbo on the shoulder then heads off to his room. "Night."
Mar 12, 2021 12:31 pm
Gerbo will let Belanor pay, and will thank him, "Thanks, bud. I don't care what they say about you. You're all right in my book." Not being a big drinker, he'll tuck in for the night after he's done with his meal, leaving a silver under his glass for the bartender.
Mar 13, 2021 11:59 am
Kerisha gets a warm fuzzy feeling inside. It is strange for her to be so accepted and welcomed in by a stranger.

"Thank you. You are kind."

Sitting down to a homecooked meal is lovely, even is Kerisha's table manners are not. It was eat fast or don't eat when it came to meal times in the tribe. It didn't matter how the food made its way into your mouth, or around it. She looks slightly embarrassed when Qelline is looking at her, and even worse when Carp is copying her. Trying to be more polite, she asks Qelline about herself and how they came to be here. She also tells Carp of her past, of finding her friends and the adventure they are on.

After dinner Kerisha would like nothing more than to sit in front of the roaring fire and drift off to sleep, but she does have to regroup with her companions and investigate these red cloaked trouble makers.

"I will come back with friends." She bids farewell to the halflings and heads back to the Stonehill Inn. Ready to inform her friends of what she has found out over breakfast.
Mar 13, 2021 4:21 pm
Entering the Stonehill Inn Kerisha can sense the stares of those still in the main room. The man behind the bar looks her over and his eyes fixate on the Barbarian's unique necklace.

"You must be Orel's friend. He said you might show up." he tosses a key in her direction. "Up the stairs there, to the right"
OOC:

Kerisha wakes feeling well rested. It's unusual sleeping in such a comfortable bed. She would have preferred the sound of leaves rustling and the gentle warming of the morning sunrise compared to the yelling from downstairs. But it was nice to relax without fear of ambush in the night.

Over breakfast she informs her companions of Carp and the red cloaks. How they have been causing trouble around town. And the fact they have a secret tunnel to their potential base of operations.
Mar 18, 2021 9:36 pm
Orel nods along to Kerisha's story. "Hmm. Secret tunnel, huh? Sounds like they must be more than just your standard troublemakers, if someone went through the effort to carve out a whole tunnel. Although, perhaps they inherited it from a more substantial threat."

He thinks for a moment, shoveling food into his mouth as he does so.

"Well, I vote we check that place out later today, after we get a chance to stock up with the money we're owed."
Mar 18, 2021 9:39 pm
Belanor freshens up, cleans his suit and makes ready for the day. Wearing his finer cuffs thinking more business today than travel. He'll make way for refreshments.

"Doesn't this town have a law enforcer? I sure don't want to go vigilanteing if I can avoid it. Belanor would take a swing from his drink.
"I mean back at OceanshallowWaterdeep there are thugs like this everywhere. But theres the city guard to help curb that.
Mar 19, 2021 4:22 pm
Kerisha is not starting her day off well. Orel understands when she sees a challenge, she usually dives in sword first. She has tried to curb her battle-lust over the years, and she manages to do so fairly well for the good of her friends. But when a group are terrorising a town, and nothing is being done about it, its hard to stand by and not get involved.

In a grumpy tone, Kerisha replies to Belanor "You stopped me killing bugbear. People need help. We will help them." She looks back to Orel for support.

Belanor wipes the crumbs off his suit. He's taken back by what he sees as bloodlust, but perhaps more just that need to help.
He'll put his hand up to try to calm her down. (which never works... ... ever)

"I'm not saying we wouldn't help. More so that town guard if applicable does. How can you help if you end up in town stockade or jail if you get in their way?"

Gerbo wakes up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at dawn. He lays awake until he hears voices downstairs, thinking about life. When he starts hearing voices downstairs, he goes down and orders some coffee before sitting with his compatriots. "Guards aren't going to do anything. Those red buggers weren't concerned about guards. You can tell the guards don't do anything here. We'll have to do it ourselves"

"We get paid, then kill red cloaks! Then maybe guards pay us?"

Kerisha hastily finishes breakfast, still a little full from her delicious meal last night, but keen to get the day started.
Mar 22, 2021 11:04 am
A tall (just over 5 foot), skinny (for a dwarf, so more like a whiskey barrel rather wine barrel), shaggy red headed Dwarf with a relatively sparse beard walks through the front doors of the inn just as you are finishing your meal. He is heavily armour with a Warhammer on one shoulder and a crossbow strapped to his backpack, He slowly looks around the room with his eyes stopping on your small group. He seems to shrug and exhale from which you swear a small puff of smoke halos around his head, and he approaches calling out, "Hey are you the new dudes in town, I was told you could help this dude out?"
As he gets closer a slight stale smell of vegetation assaults your noses, nothing offensive just . . . annoying.

Hearing the introduction, Gerbo turns to look over the dwarf with a mild interest. Wonder what he's up to. "Who sent you to us and what were you promised help with?" He pauses for a bit, before continuing, "Got a name, dwarf?"
Mar 22, 2021 9:28 pm
"Perhaps there is a reward! I agree, we should check with the town guard." Belanor agrees.

He'll look up to the loud dwarf awaiting.
Mar 22, 2021 9:42 pm
"Oh sorry gnur dude, name is Karma Barksmoker nephew to Grunden Rockseeker. I was sent," He pauses as his eyes look up and to the left, "I was requested to seek out my Uncle and help him establish himself in this town and possibly get back to my Dwarvish roots by smashing rocks." with the last few words he gives a sigh. He then continues, "So I got here a day back and no sign of Uncle, you can’t imagine what a bummer that was and to top it off no one knew where he was until ewes turned up." You feel as though he should add more but he just stops there and his eyes take on a slightly vacant look as he smiles at you.
Mar 22, 2021 9:51 pm
"Both advantageous and sad. Your uncle sent us as well. We were supposed to meet with him here but it seems we may have run into a bit of a, um, complication." Belanor pauses.
"It appears your uncle may have been uncle napped you see. We found his companion and escorted him back here. We were about to seek him for further information after we break fast. Perhaps he should join us?" Belanor looks about the table at the others.
Mar 23, 2021 7:11 pm
Kerisha eyes up the newcomer. She is always assessing what type of challenge people would be in a fight. Looks solid. Would take a good hit. Not as strong though. Seems...slightly spaced out. Humph, will be useful in a fight. She smiles to herself, satisfied.

Kerisha wants to make sure the red cloaks are not causing trouble, and her mind keeps drifting back to the halfling farm.

"We will find uncle. Add to list with kill red-cloaks and get paid." Kerisha likes to keep a list of who or what she intends to kill. Sometimes other things make it to the list.
Mar 24, 2021 4:35 am
Orel scratches at his stubble as he looks the dwarf over, giving a sigh. "We only have a few leads. Well, only one really. He's apparently being held at a castle of some sort, by a King Grol."

He pushes his empty plate a smidge away from him to signify he's done with breakfast. "I'm Orel, by the way."
Mar 24, 2021 11:24 am
What appears to be a look of shock, though the facial expression change was very minor, comes across Karma's face, "Sweet dudes that is truly righteous of you, maybe if I can get Uncle back the Clan will get off my back a little, and I can get back to brewing." There is genuine sincerity to his words of thanks and he walks forward with a closed fist extended, "Fist bumps all around."

Kerisha jerks for her sword at this presentation of a fist. Initially she thought it to be an aggressive gesture, but that would surely be a foolish move when you are outnumbered. The fact no one else reacts reassures her that it is a friendly gesture.

She balls her own fist and holds it out, mimicking Karma. As their fists bump, she is overwhelmed by an immediate feeling of companionship, like she has a new BFF. She goes around to the rest of the group fist bumping them all with Karma.
Mar 24, 2021 8:50 pm
Raising an eyebrow at the fist and the way which the dwarf spoke, Gerbo thought back to the experiences he'd had with people like Karma at bars back home. Usually they were halflings and were either very wealthy, or dirt poor, but always easy to pick. One of these...I suppose he could be useful if he's roused. Putting on his biggest fake grin, Gerbo allows his fist to be bumped by the dwarf before dialing it back to a genuinely amused smirk at Kerisha's swift change of mood.

"So do you mind if I ask how ewes know me Uncle?" Karma asks, "And what is the negative vibe with this town, it is like being back underground with the clan."
Mar 25, 2021 7:52 pm
"We were employed by your uncle to transport some supplies to the town. I'm also here in hopes to start up and assist new clients with the brewers guild. But she found out something about some gang thats supposedly terrorizing the town. We were just about to the guards.

Would you care to join us?"

Belanor motions to Kerisha when he speak of the Red Cloak Gang.
Mar 25, 2021 11:31 pm
Karma’s eyes truely light up at the mention of a brewery, "A fellow brewer, dude! Would I! This place is getting better every second." You can not see it underneath the mess of a bread, but a smile crosses Karma’s lips. "I have been working on a new range of fruit infused brewing techniques to enhance the flavour of the hops in order to reduce the preservatives within the ale, allowing a cleaner and natural taste . . . " He stops himself and takes a breath, "Yeah dudes I would like that."
Mar 25, 2021 11:39 pm
"Great! Perhaps we can talk shop after we find your Uncle?" Belanor suggests.

Seeing most of the companions have finished eating Belanor stands and pushes in his chair.

"To the guards then." He states securing his weapon to his hip under his suit coat.
Mar 26, 2021 5:18 pm
OOC:
So where are you all headed?
Mar 26, 2021 5:43 pm
Kerisha finishes fist bumping everyone then makes for the door. She's keen to get back to the farm and check on the halflings, bu checks her list and sees that they need to get paid first. So many things to do
OOC:
I think we said get paid then looks like to the guards?
Mar 26, 2021 6:07 pm
Gerbo finishes his drink and then hops down from his stool to follow Kerisha. "Time to get paid, eh?"
OOC:
Agreed, let's go to get paid.
Mar 28, 2021 4:40 pm
Just as you're readying to leave, the front door of Stonehill Inn opens and a tall man, silhouetted by bright morning sun, enters into the tavern.

"Good morning, My Friends!" he calls out.

Barely recognizable from the beaten and bloodied man you rescued from the goblin cave not even 24 hours earlier Sildar appears to have fully recovered. Freshly groomed and dressed in fine clothing, he approaches your table and gets right to business.

"I have yet to make contact with Iarno, but hope to do so later today. He should be able to give us some insight to the location of this Castle the goblins have told us about. For now, I shall be heading to Townmaster's Hall, I have some business to attend to there. You should stop by the Hall when you have a chance as I have secured payment for your services, as promised."

With that he gives a slight bow and head out the door.
Looking to get paid for the goods which you have assumed were delivered to Barthen's Provisions you make the short walk to the trading post. The building is by far the largest that you've seen in the town and is already starting to buzz with activity.

Inside you find shelves full of just about any type of gear one might need for traveling the Tri-Boar trail. A lean and balding man behind the counter yells back to the storage area.

"Ander, Thistle, those wagons aren't going to load themselves, lads. Let's get on it."

He turns and with a big smile asks "What can I do for all of you this fine morning?"
OOC:
Things to do list:
1. Get paid for the delivery to Barthen's (in progress).
2. Get paid for rescuing Sildar - in Townmaster's Hall.
3. Talk to the guard about what they're doing about the Redbrands.
4. Investigate the tunnel that Kerisha found with Carp.
5. Profit!?

Belanor walks up to the man.
"Good morning, We've come to seek collection of payment for the goods rendered to you by our delivery yesterday. I believe a man Tyr, had delievered them to. I viewed his wagon out last evening."
Mar 29, 2021 10:31 pm
The man flashes an amused smile and shakes his head.

"Ah yes, Tyr, hard man to forgot. Tells quite the tale of how he single handedly fought off a goblin ambush all by himself while the rest of you fled in fear. Something tells me that's not quite what happened..." his eyes fixate on Kerisha's finger-necklace.

"...group of you don't look like the fleeing in fear type."

He reaches below and plonks a pouch on the counter. "Now Tyr said he would have been more than happy to collect this for all of you, but I'd imagane ol' Gundren would want those he hired to get it first hand. Tell that crazy son of a bitch that Elmar says 'hello' for me, would ya?"

"Much obliged! Tyr has a spoon for feeding many tales. But as they say theres always a little bit of truth to every story."
Belanor opens the pouch and makes quick count of the coins.
"Looks good." He'll divvy out the coins applicable. "We'll do!"

Belanor holds cause he refreshes the pages to often and waits for the group.

Gerbo laughs at hearing the story Elmar was told. "Yeah, that boy is all bark and no bite if you get my drift. Luckily Kerisha has plenty of bite to go around."
Mar 30, 2021 10:25 am
Kerisha gives a tusky smile to Gerbo and Elmar. Noticing Elmar eye her necklace, she is disappointed there aren't more trophies on it to show off.

While the other are talking, she looks around at any goods on display. Her old and knicked blade is doing a decent job, but goblins are squishy. If she is going to tackle stronger foes, she needs to be better equipped. Then she looks down at her tattered hide armor. Her skin has not thickened like others in her tribe, it's part of the reason they looked down on her. So Kerisha has to rely on extra armor to protect herself. But there have been too many close calls. She needs more protection. First though she needs more money.
Mar 31, 2021 2:24 am
Eyeing the merchandise, Gerbo scans the shelves and racks for a set of Tinker Tools, hoping to get his hands on another set after the set he'd had since childhood had recently been broken in a scuffle after a con gone bad. "Hey Elmar, you got any Gnomish Tools around here? My mind has been craving some stimulation."
Mar 31, 2021 3:18 am
Orel grabs his healer's kit out of his backpack, taking stock of the bandages and salves he has missing. Couldn't hurt to be prepared.
OOC:
Given a healer's kit is usually 5 gp for 10 charges, could I restock 1 charge of my kit for 5 sp or something?
While looking through the goods with Kerisha, he notices her examining her old equipment. "I can spot you some money for some new stuff, if you'd like. It's going to be quite a while until I can afford anything better than ol' reliable, anyways." Kerisha understands both that "ol' reliable" is Orel's nickname for his chainmail and why he says the name with palpable sarcasm. "Although, anything nice is still probably out of our price range."
Mar 31, 2021 8:10 pm
"See that aisle there, the one with all the rope hangin'..." Elmar responds while giving a lazy wave off his hand in the general direction "...all kinds of tools back in there, I'm sure you'll find something that will suit your needs."

To Gerbo's delight, the shop keep speaks the truth. Among much of the other standard sets of tools one would expect to find there are at least half a dozen tinkering tool sets, one set, in fine leather case actually has the words "Nackle Family Brand" embroidered in Gnomish with golden thread. [50GP]
The selection of armor is a little thin and when Elmar notices Kerisha's browsing he speaks up. "Not our specialty, armor, weapons, and the like. Lionshield is usually the place in town people go for that need. What we do have, though, I'll take off 10% for ya, just to get it out the store."

There is an older, beat up chain shirt [45GP] that would be a tight fit, but doable. There is also a set of scale mail [45GP] that would fit better, but is a bit more cumbersome.
Seeing Orel looking through his healing kit Elmar offers up some refills. "Get a lot of use out of that kit lately?" he asks.
OOC:
@Orel - I'm good with the refills, buy the appropriate amount for the broken down cost.

Things to do list:
1. Get paid for rescuing Sildar - in Townmaster's Hall.
2. Talk to the guard about what they're doing about the Redbrands.
3. Investigate the tunnel that Kerisha found with Carp.

Gerbo's fingers start to twitch when he sees the tools. Easy, easy. We don't need to make enemies here. Elmar seems nice enough. He tries to calm himself a bit by clenching and unclenching a fist behind his back several times in quick succession. "I seem to be a bit short at the moment, but after we visit our friend Sildar can remedy that after we pay him a visit. I will have to revisit this then." Having said his piece, Gerbo will exit the store to wait outside for his compatriots before temptation gets the better of him. He was a good man and doesn't deserve to be robbed. I'll get it later. Maybe he'll make me a deal, and if not, I suppose I'll figure something out.
Apr 2, 2021 10:18 am
Karma follows the group through the town to Barthen's Provisions, he refuses the money offered up for work they did. "No dudes that would be bad juju taking money not earned, ewes are better adding it to ya pool." He waits patiently as you look over the merchandise.
OOC:
Happy to add that extra 10gp to Kerisha getting better armour or Grebo tinker tools.
Apr 2, 2021 6:14 pm
Kerisha eyes up the armor on display, then feels her rather empty coin pouch. She spent her last gold on tailoring her current armor, and hasn't really replenished it yet. She looks to Elmar rather embarrassed "Not enough money. Will come back."

Normally she would just kill things and either use what equipment is lying around or use the hide from the beasts to make new clothes or repair her old stuff. After using the meat to make a lovely stew of course.
OOC:
Thanks guys but its ok, keep your gold and spend it on more pressing things - healers kits are a must! lol!

Kerisha will always donate her gold to Gerbo for the tools though if you want them Pax?

Taking leave of Barthen's Provisions the group heads past the Stonehill Inn and into the town square. It's still fairly early in the morning but there are quite a few people out getting on with their business. The young elf at the Shrine of Luck wishes all passer-bys a good morning and "the blessings of Tymora" as they pass, while she busies herself tidying up the old shrine the best she can.

A man standing in front of the Lionshield Coster calls out to no one in particular in an attempt to draw people into the large building. From his well rehearsed spiel, it's obvious this is the "premier place along the whole Tri-Boar trail for weapons and armor."

Approaching the sturdy stone walled building used as the Townmaster's Hall you see a notice posted on a board next to the front door:
Quote:
REWARD - Orcs near Wyvern Tor! Those of a mind to face the orc menace should inquire within.
The notice bears the town's seal and an indecipherable signature.

Entering the building you are greeted by an older male elf sitting behind a desk. Without looking up from his work he says in an unusually monotone voice.

"Good morning. Both the Townmaster and Lord's Alliance representative are in their respective offices. Which have you came to see?"
OOC:
Things to do list:

Gerbo strides up confidently to the desk. "We've come to see Sildar about payment for services rendered. Is he around?" Having noted the posting about the "orc menace", he wondered what Kerisha thought about it. I wonder what's been done to stir them up this time.
Apr 8, 2021 7:24 pm
Kerisha pauses at the notice. It's not the first time she has encountered this, and it certainly wont be the last. But it doesn't stop her getting just a little riled up at everyone. Not all orc's are menaces, just the way not all humans are law abiding perfect citizens.

She grunts as she moves on "Give orcs bad name. Will stop them if we must." She has no issues with fighting others of her kind. She fights for her friends and those close to her. Her tribe have no favour with her after the way they treated her. Kerisha just hopes this isn't her old tribe. She's not ready to face them just yet. There are lot more challenges for her to overcome before she can face her ultimate goal.
Apr 8, 2021 7:58 pm
"Ah, the Lord's Alliance it is then."

Finally looking away from his work on the desk, the old elf gets up out of his seat. Tall, thin, and finely dressed the man moves so fluidly it's hard to tell of he's walking or gliding as he leads you to a door to the right, just down a short hall.

With a quick knock, he opens the door while announcing, "Lord Hallwinter, the group I believe you were expecting is here." He glances down at Karma and adds, "Plus one other." The elf ushers you into the room where Sildar is seated at a large round table, before returning to his work.

"Come in, friends, come in. Please, have a seat, I have a couple of things I'd like to discuss with you all."

Once everyone is settled in, Sildar stands from his chair and places a bag on the table. "Without your intervention, I certainly would have perished in that gods forsaken cave. This is just token of my gratitude. I wish it could be more, but..." he trails off before returning to his seat.

"While I have you all here, there are few things I'd like to discuss. Firstly, my contact Iarno Albrek has disappeared, last seen exploring the area around Tresendar Manor, just outside of town about a month ago. He is the man who would have possibly had knowledge that would have helped us locate the castle where Gundren is apparently being held. A dark bearded wizard, in his thirties, fairly short. I would like you to poke around the area, see if you can find him... or what remains of him."

"Secondly is the possibility of finding this castle on your own. Ambush some of the other raiding parties along the trail, and see what you can find out. The location of this castle and Gundren is not just important to me, but for the long term plans of this village. I can offer 500GP of my own coin for the location of this castle and the return of my friend."

Letting out a long sigh, "Meanwhile I must continue to persuade the village idiot Harbin to do something about this gang of ruffians that he is letting run lose in streets. Man has no backbone at all!"
OOC:
The bag which Sildar put on the table contains 100GP.

Things to do list:
1. Get paid for rescuing Sildar - in Townmaster's Hall - in progress.
2. Talk to the guard about what they're doing about the Redbrands.

Apr 8, 2021 9:29 pm
"There is no guard in Phandalin" Sildar responds sharply. "And you can thank Townmaster Harbin for that. As part of the Lord's Alliance I want to ensure that the people of this village are safe, but he's blocked my attempts to organize a guard at every step."
OOC:
Yes, Iarno is the dark bearded wizard. Weird wording there on my part.
Apr 8, 2021 9:36 pm
"ShIt" Is quickly gasped from Belnaors lips.
Apr 9, 2021 1:58 am
Gerbo's mind starts wandering after sees the gold. Just enough! Most of the rest of the conversation goes past him as he starts thinking about the tools, but at the mention of a lack of guards, he jumps back into the conversation. "How much for taking down the red buggers, then? Is there a bounty on them?"
Apr 9, 2021 2:34 am
"No bounty, as such, but I’m sure I could round up a few hundred gold from the local businesses who have been constantly harassed by the buggers."
Apr 9, 2021 9:10 pm
Karma had given the tall Elf a sideways glance at being call ‘a plus one’, not because he had been referred an extra before but more that the elves he knew from the woods were a lot more polite. "Very negative dude." he mutters under his breath as he follows into the room and slouches onto a nearby chair picking leaves from his beard casually.

"So this cat, Iarno the Wizard, is the only one who may have a clue where my uncle is? And he is lost possibly dead! Wooo heavy."" Karma asks (you think) before adding, How far out of town is this Tresendar Manor pad?"

The pad is hard to miss, just follow the road past the Sleeping Giant, it will take you there. It's not too far out at all, just north of a little farm run by a halfling women and her young child."

Once the group gets into the open country he seems to get a big goofy smile on his face, well you think it is a smile as who can tell under his shockingly shaggy beard, and spring in his step. Along the way he will occasionally say remarks like, "Oh nature you are so awesome." or "Bless you dear tree." as thou talking to the plants and animals.
Apr 12, 2021 2:17 am
Gerbo upon hearing Karma talking to the trees, will speeds up or slow down to put himself as far from him as possible. That one is a bit goofy. I think I prefer his uncle.
OOC:
Can we say that Gerbo went back to the provision store and got the Tinker Tools. My gold after Sildar should be right at the quoted price (50gp, I think?)? Orel smiles to himself as Karma talks to the trees, pausing to appreciate the nature around them for the first time in a while. "I remember when I got first involved with the Enclave, I was just as enamored as you are," he says as gently nudges Karma with his elbow.

After Kerisha's call out to the young halfing it takes less than a few seconds for the eager boy to appear in front of the group. Nearly out of breath after running in from the fields, he stands tall, pointy stick in hand, and with a huge smile on his face.

"I'm ready to go, Kreesha! Let's get them bad guys!"

Before the lad can get out another word, Qelline appears from the small farm house, with a large wooden box in her arms, and puts an end to her son's thoughts of adventure.

"You won't be going anywhere, Carp, best to leave this to those that can handle themselves. Not to mention, you still have a full day of chores to finish in the field."

Carp's head drops as he let's out a small whimper and starts to trudge back into the field.

Approaching the group, Qelline cheerfully welcomes everyone, individually, to her farm, addressing Kerisha in Orcish the best she can and thanking her for bringing her friends before addressing the group as a whole.

"I can't tell you all how good it is to see someone finally standing up to those thugs. You have my thanks. And while I don't have much to offer in the way of gold, I want you all to have these. My hope is you won't need them."

She lays the box down at Kerisha's feet.

"And please return when you can. Carp and I will make sure you're all well fed and patched up when this nasty business has been dealt with."

Kerisha breathes a sigh of relief as Carp appears. She was a little concerned about leaving the halflings without protection, but they had survived this long, and Qelline was well aware of the danger these thugs posed so would keep them safe.

Kerisha kneels down to Carp. "Your chores will make you big and strong. Will give you discipline. Make you a powerful adventurer." As he trudges off back to the field, Kerisha places a hand on Qelline's shoulder "I gave you my word."

Spotting the large amount of healing potions, Kerisha is overwhelmed by the generosity. "I hope we do not need them…but thank you. Please keep yourself safe."
OOC:

Karma follows the big Half-Orc out into the fields and smiles at the interaction she has with the young Halfling and Mother, "Positive energy you are giving out right now tough Lady, I can dig your groove right now." he says to Kerisha sincerely as he approaches to see what is within the case. Upon seeing the generous gift his eyes widen and he simply says, "Positive groove paid back, this is mighty generous Lady Farmer." Karma nods deeply towards Qeline.
Apr 15, 2021 9:20 pm
"Lady Farmer, while accurate, is not what I am used to being called. Please just call me Qelline" the halfling answers with a smile.

She then looks up to Kerisha and asks her is she remembers the way to the tunnel. "I've been keeping my eye in that direction when working the fields and have seen groups of three or four of those ruffians heading towards the area. They certainly seem to making good use of it."

Apr 16, 2021 12:29 am
After an initial puzzled look, Qelline reaches out her fist as well but doesn’t realize that she’s supposed to make contact, and just leaves her arm extended awkwardly in front of her as she answers the Dwarf’s question.

"Yes, the very same group. Harassing shop owners and travelers alike. Carp and I do our best to just stay out of their way."
Apr 16, 2021 12:51 am

The detailed description that Qelline gives to Kerisha is enough to have the barbarian easily lead the group through the woods to the east of the halfling's farm. It isn't more than a five or six minute walk through the heavily wooded area until voices off to the left confirm that the group is approaching the correct location.

"You nearly beat that grinder to death! What he say his name was again? Tire or something, wannit?" one of the voices says with a laugh.

"Don't matter his name, you can't come into the Giant spouting shit about how ya defeated some devil with a tooth pick and not get called out on it."

The group of four erupts in laughter.

"That mutt-elf won't be coming round these parts no more!"

Preoccupied with recalling the events of the night before, the four men stop when they reach a point near some thickets up against the side of a ledge.

"We give Chute a couple more minutes, then we head in!"
OOC:
The four men, all dressed in dirty scarlet cloaks, stand around continuing to chat about the evening at the Sleeping Giant and are obviously not worried about being spotted. One of the men occasionally looks of to the his right (your left) as if expecting someone.

Your group is roughly 30 feet away, well hidden in the woods.

Apr 19, 2021 4:30 pm
"He talks big but he doesn't deserve to be beat to death." Belanor whispers back.
Apr 19, 2021 4:36 pm
Proud of herself that she managed to guide the group to the correct location, Kerisha hunkers down in the foliage as she hears the voices.

Kerisha knows tactics are not her thing, so she turns to Orel for orders.

"Take them out here?"

It was a question with a very think layer optimism, leaving the fighter in no doubt that she is ready to go, and even if he said wait she would probably already be halfway there by that point.
Apr 19, 2021 8:50 pm
"Not beat to death, but knocked down a peg. Usually I prefer it be done in less savage ways, though. Picking on a little guy just because you can just proves you can't stomach a real fight. I'm thinking I don't want to get jumped from behind, but on the other hand, waiting could increase the chance of us being found."
OOC:
How well hidden are we from any paths we see approaching them? Would we be seen by someone coming to meet them?

OOC:
The group of you are about 30’ away, well hidden in the woods, and the four men are busy chatting and laughing it up. You won’t be seen or noticed unless you want to be or make loud noises.

There is a slight clearing that follows along the ledge which the men used to get to the thickets. You’d be able to see someone else coming maybe 40’-50’ away off to your left if they use that same approach.
Apr 20, 2021 12:47 pm
Karma looks around the woods then whispers, "You know I could get the woodland creatures to help maybe distracting this dude these heaves are waiting for or them, or I can get them to eves drop and follow them. The animals of the woods are really friendly." Strangely a few insects are now gathered around him.
Apr 21, 2021 2:10 am
Orel shakes his head at Kerisha, and addresses the group. "We need information. I say we wait and listen as long as we can: if that Chute fellow starts coming or if they start heading in, we hit them when they least expect it." He glances over the clearing.

"Kerisha, you and I should step between them and the entrance if possible to stop them from fleeing inside. Gerbo, Belanor, you two try and cover the area around here, box them in with ranged attacks. Karma..." he looks Karma over, trying to asses his abilities. He can't get a read. "...uh, do what you do best. Also keep an eye on the clearing, try and isolate anybody that comes to join the fray."

As Orel dashes from cover so to does Karma step out shield up and his holy symbol held in the other. He reaches deep within himself dragging out a small amount of negative energy he had collected over the last few days, it manifests itself above one of the humans in the shape of a smallish bear with large round ears. The manifestation opens it mouth and a roar that only can be described as nature’s anguish fills that humans mind, as the drop bear crashes upon him.

Easily slipping by the stunned bandits, Orel's downward slash catches the bandit (RBR4) in the collar bone, shattering it with ease. The bandit falls to his knees with a groan and with his off hand reaches for his own weapon. He grunts as he starts to rise but pauses, drops his blade, and claps at his ears with his one good hand.

"Bells? Why am I hearing bells?" he yells out before collapsing to the ground.

With his original target of choice no longer a threat, Gerbo holds his attack, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Kerisha doesn't need to be told twice. She launches herself forwards after Orel. Seeing him skilfully cut down the first bandit, and not wanting to be left behind in the kill count, she continue her charge towards RBR3. Drawing as much attention as she can to give Gerbo an opening. As much as she wants to cut them all down, Kerisha knows the importance of teamwork, and her current companions seem some of the best she has ever had. She will need them around her if she is to complete her challenge, but right now there is a halfling family that deserved to live in peace from these menaces.

At full speed, Kerisha enters her battle focus. Her animalistic nature rises and she huffs like a bear on a hunt, before driving her massive blade towards her target.

With the bandit's attention squarely fixed on Kerisha's charge, Gerbo sees an opportunity and lets his arrow fly. The tip of the arrow drives deep between the man's ribs, tearing into his torso. Kerisha's blade finishes the job, nearly cutting completely through its target. Without a sound the man crumples to the ground.

She closes her eyes and slows her breathing. Listening to the sounds of the trees and appreciating the smell of the flowers. Her heart rate slows and her grip loosens on her sword. Finding the calm in nature has been the best way for her to control her rage.

Kerisha nods to Gerbo and after she has removed the red cloak from the one she hunted down, she strides over to the remaining bandit. While she waits for the others to finish questioning him, she ties the cloak around her wrist. Yet another fashion accessory made from her trophies.

May 9, 2021 4:48 am
Karma looks at the group before saying, "It might be best if I head in first, thou tunnels are nowhere as sweet as the woods, they do feel like comfortable mum hugs to this dude. Oh and I have excellent darkvision." With that the shaggy Dwarf hefts his shield into place and heads off into the tunnel.

Not wanting a repeat of her last performance in a cave, sliding down a rocky slope on her face, Kerisha hangs back to guard the rear while the others test the footing. Once they are inside, she will stow her greatsword and pull out a hand axe. If she cant fit without stooping, there is now way she will be able to swing her sword.
May 10, 2021 10:49 pm
Belanor will go in prior to Kerisha too opting to stick to the rear.

With Karma in the lead and Kerisha watching everyone's back, you slowly work your way through the tunnel. Gerbo is easily able to point out a few crude trip wires well before they become an issue and it isn't too much further down the tunnel before a cold breeze, with just a hint of decaying flesh, washes over the group.

The tunnel empties out into a large, natural cavern, with oil lamps along the walls providing ample light. A crevasse divides the room and is flanked by two large columns that support a twenty foot high ceiling. Two arched wooden bridges span the chasm.

As we draw nearer the cavern Karma turns a quick glance at Gerbo before looking around himself wildly, a look of discomfort is upon his face though will covered by his shaggy hair and beard. Karma will stop at the edge of the tunnel not entering the cavern, keepin close to one side of the tunnel to allow any behind him pass if the wish.

Belanor will exit the tunnel and stretch a bit. "Well at least there's lights in here. But that smell of decay. It's almost comparable to the goblin cave. Wait!" Belanor stops as if a thought went though his business like brain. "You don't think this is some back entrance to that goblin cave do you?
May 13, 2021 2:33 am
Orel steps into the tunnel, blinking as his eyes readjust to the light, and breathes a sigh of relief. His white-knuckle grip on the hilt of his sword loosens slightly.

"That would have to be a pretty massive network of caves." He glances around. "Goblin involvement would explain the cramped, dark tunnels though..."
May 13, 2021 4:54 pm
Kerisha squeezes her way out of the narrow cave and stretches her arms out wide. A few loud cracks echo around as her spine and shoulders straighten up.

She perks up at the mention of the goblin cave, she may yet get to challenge that bugbear leader...

She looks around to take in the tunnel. "Goblins don't need lights. Must be Human made."
May 13, 2021 6:41 pm
Emptying into the cavern and letting your eyes adjust to the newly found light you can see that there are several exits, all appear to be man-made, in stark contrast to the cavern itself. The crevasse is about 20 or so feet deep, with rough, slightly inclined walls.

Behind the far stone column you catch a quick glimpse of a three-toed, lizard like leg, just before it moves out of sight.

Even though attacks are coming from all sides, the Nothic proves surprisingly nimble, bobbing and weaving out of harm's way at last moment, avoiding projectiles and blades alike. It doesn't, however, have a defense for the bells tolling all around it. Its clawed hands grasping at its ears, it fixes it gaze once again on the barbarian, its lone pupil dailating to full size.

Kerisha feels nothing, but does catch a glimpse of her long time companion struggling to his feet, sword in hand, as he limps slowly up behind the Nothic. With two quick swings of the blade, Orel cuts the creature down, and then collapses on the ground.

May 26, 2021 12:26 pm
Karma fixes a couple of sturdy femur bones located within the cave to Orel’s leg to make a splint and securing it with some bandages, he then mixes up a dried herb formula of his own making which he hands to Orel tightly rolled in paper. "Lite and inhale the smoke it will help to dull the pain for your journey back." He says.
May 26, 2021 1:41 pm
Following the dwarf’s instructions Orel lights up the dried herb cigarette and inhales deeply. The initial harshness of the smoke on his throat causes him to cough, but after his third or fourth try he’s able to inhale deeply and let the herbs work their magic.

"Are you sure this is purely medicinal?" he asks, raising one of his eyebrows.

Groaning as he gets to his feet he unhooks his sword’s scabbard from his belt and uses it as a makeshift crutch while hobbling towards the tunnel.

"While I’m sure you will all be safe, especially with Kerisha looking out after you, please be careful. I will see you all when you return to town."

Karma turns examining the walls and construction of the cave in an attempt to figure out who may have constructed the tunnels and maybe a basic knowledge of possible places the caves would lead. Kerisha rushes over to help Orel to support his weight. The others wont know this, but she is scared. Its usually her that is hurt. Orel is her rock. He drags her ass out of trouble, not the other way around.

As Karma patches him up, she manages to relax slightly. More confident now that Orel will be ok. "Go to Qelline. She will help."
She grabs Orel's head and places her forehead to his "Be safe brother!"

She moves to Karma and offers a fist. "Thank you for taking care of him."

Kerisha straightens herself up, retrieves her handaxe and tightens her grip on her sword. Not wanting to be back in any tight caves, she heads towards the larger opening to the North, looking to see where it leads.
May 28, 2021 3:51 pm
OOC:
Doesn't Orel have a healers kit? Wouldn't he bandage himself first?
Belanor assists with Kerisha passing Orel to the narrow opening.
Dusting himself off. "Well when in doubt pinky out," he says he looks at the nearest exits to him. "Or we could just go down that one and see where it takes us." Belanor points to the one behind the group (bottom right)
"Perhaps they spin about and make a circle, Right?"

Belanor takes off his suit jacket and finds a good spot to hang it trying to find a spot that won't make it more dirty. Re-equiping his sword he regroups with the party in a grey/silver looking button up.
May 28, 2021 5:40 pm
Karma's attempt to read the stones provides little information. Once he and the others help Orel to the entrance it's clear to everyone that all of the offshoots from this area are man made and have been finished with dressed stone block walls and flagstone floors.

The room to the north appears to be some sort of storage area with several barrels against the walls, as well as a number of empty crates, straw for packing, hammers, pry bars, and nails.

Any tunnel is as good as another, happy to go with Belanor’s suggestion.

Gerbo creeps up behind Kerisha and peeks into the room Scooby-Doo style. Looking carefully over the containers for a moment, he rummages through the boxes and finds a sturdy hammer, pry bar, a handful of nails, and a handful of straw. He opens his pack and looking in, moves a few things around, before shoving them into the bag.
OOC:
I've decided Gerbo is a bit of a pack rat, given his affinity for tinkering, he, like me, holds onto things "just in case I need it". Rolling investigation for initial look over the containers for traps as well as anything extra in the boxes he finds when rummaging.

Rolls

Most of what Gerbo finds while looking through the boxes are simply provisions, but he does discover one of the boxes is stuffed with beaver pelts. The pelts are in very good condition and might fetch a couple of gold pieces each if they were to be removed and sold elsewhere.
OOC:
There are about 30 pelts altogether.
May 30, 2021 1:05 am
Refocusing on the task at hand, Gerbo cinches up his pack and swings it over his shoulder, squirming a little to settle the contents to his liking. "Some good stuff in there." He says to no one in particular. "Maybe some useful things for the town and some useful things for us. We should stop back on the way out."
OOC:
Leaving the furs in the interest of expediency. Taking the tools as described.

Kerisha grunts her frustration at the dead end room. Still upset at the loss of Orel, she tries to focus, following the others down the next tunnel.
OOC:

LOL the classic Scooby case.
Karma collects up the remaining kits left by Orel putting them into his pack, he then hefts his Warhammer onto his shoulder and slides his shield into place. "Shall I lead again? Or Kerisha is there enough room for you to swing?"
OOC:
I added the healers kit to Karma with 9 charges after using one on Orel.
Shall we go with the same marching order or shall we move Kerisha to the front?

Kerisha is becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of progress. She wants to hit something. Anything. Someone must pay for Orel being hurt. And dead ends are not getting her any closer to that, or dealing with these red cloaks that are causing trouble in town.

She trudges off back down the corridor.

Gerbo frowns at the dead end. Seeing Kerisha squeeze back down the hall, he whispers, "Want to keep watch? I'm going to check this out." Cracking his knuckles and twiddling his fingers slightly, he steps forward and begins poring over the rock wall, running his fingers over it to ascertain if there is any trick to it. The end of the hallway doesn't appear quite as clean as the rest of the stonework in this hallway. Gerbo is able to find a few hinges camouflaged behind some fake bits of stone and determines that what appears to be a dead-end is really a door.
OOC:

Turning back to the room, he pipes up again, "Keep in mind, we're still in enemy territory. You reckon we ought to go in? If they don't want us in here, I'll bet this is exactly where we ought to be."

Kerisha marches into the secret room, still eager to hit something, and now taking more responsibility for the protection of the group. Looking around she doesn't see anyone immediately, and the sound of the water calms her slightly. Like a stream slowly trickling through the woodland. One that supports some much life, and one that she would hunt in when she was cast out of her tribe. She peers into the water at her reflection. The goblin fingers around her neck. The red cloak around her wrist. She is stronger than she was, but she still has a long way to go before she can return.

Kerish goes around the room, poking at the walls with her sword, expecting it to give at some point revealing another secret door.

The man easily avoids Gerbo's weak attempt and nimbly steps out of the way of Karma's clumsy swing. His bobbing and weaving does put him in the perfect position for Kerisha's rage fueled attack however, and the barbarian wastes no time in cutting the robed man to pieces.

Kerisha, still engulfed by rage, swings her sword around once more. The warming touch from Karma adds more heat to the fire that burns inside her. Blood flies from its tip as she looks for her next target.

Karmas barking tone snaps her out of bisecting the remaining Redbrand. There was once a dwarf captain with a similar tone. He never stood for Kerishas...aggressive nature... and so she learnt fast to reign it in at the sound of his orders. There was only so many time she could stand latrine duty. She almost stands to attention as she slows her breathing. Pulling out one of the potions that Qelline gave them she knocks it back, waiting for this new interrogation to finish before putting the Redbrand out of his misery.

"Door to da left. Big hallway will get ya what ya want, just check the walls. Some of the doors in this place ain't easy to find."
Jun 26, 2021 3:02 am
Belanor continues to look about the fountain room. He keeps an eye on the other two entrances while meandering about thinking about his ale business.
Jun 26, 2021 11:15 am
Karma never really hides his dislike of someone and now is not one of those times, "Kerisha let's tie this negative dude up and keep move shall we?" The shaggy Dwarf pulls out some rope from his backpack.
Jun 26, 2021 3:02 pm
A nod and a grunt from Kerisha signifies both her agreement and annoyance. She helps Karma tie up the redbrand, making sure to cinch the rope just that little too tight for comfort. He deserved a punch to the jaw for his insolence, but that's not what she was told to do, yet. She looks for somewhere solid to tie him up, before taking all of the redbrands weapons. After examining them to see if any were an upgrade for her, she dumps the rest in the water.

"Gerbo. Can you find door?"

Gerbo responds to Kerisha, "I think there will be some ahead, but for now, I think we should collect ourselves and be ready for more of a fight when we go through that door there." pointing to the door described. Belanor waves his hands as if doing a magic trick. He'll touch Kerisha and presto her clean, and attempt mending if any of her clothes are rent.
After completing each action he smiles as if he did something significant. "Expecto Patronum!" He exclaims, "It's not really protection unless you believe it to be."

Kerisha's eyes narrow at Belanor sizing him up, not sure if he's helping her or making a joke. But she is feeling and smelling a little fresher now so he must be doing some good. Karma certainly knows the way to clear her mind. Although not in the forest, Kerisha can feel the trees positive energy flow through her as she approaches the next door.

With a nod of readiness to the rest of the group, and her sword drawn ready, she goes with her previously successful tactic of slamming her bodyweight, shoulder first, into the door.
Jun 28, 2021 9:35 pm
Unlike the last door the half-orc busted down, this one doesn't give as easy. It opens, but Kerisha is sure her shoulder's going to feel this success for the rest of day. The door opens into a large hallway, just as the now restrained Redbrand had said.

Thick dust covers the flagstones of this somber hallway. The walls are decorated with faux columns every ten feet, and the double doors at the west end of the hall are sheathed in copper plate, now green with age. A relief carving of a mournful angel graces the doors.

A click to his right confirms his fear, the trap is sprung. A single arrow flies towards his head and rips clean through his ear, striking the far wall.

The trap is fairly simplistic in design, needing to be manually reset after it has been triggered. The rest of the hallway appears to be free from further danger.

Gerbo stands up straight. "Looks like we're OK." He let's his breath go before turning to Karma. "I've been better."

The combined effort of Karma and Kerisha is more than enough to strike down the cloaked man who lands sprawled on the floor next to his companion.

From the cell to the south side of the room a disheveled woman stands up and slowly walks towards the bars.

"Let us out, please!" she asks quietly.

Another younger woman is in the same cell and in the northern cell is a young male, petrified with fear, and seated again the far wall.

With one lock successfully picked and the other smashed into rusty bits the cells are now free to open.

"Nars! Are you alright?" the woman asks, rushing across the room to the other cell to embrace the young man before he even has a chance to exit his cell. She looks over the young man and once satisfied he's relatively uninjured she lets out a relieved sigh and addresses her rescuers.

"I don't know how to thank you! My children and I have been in her for days. These bastards were going to sell us into slavery. Their boss is some wizard type who has some tall furry monsters with big ears working for him."

She goes on to tell the story of how the Redbrands had killed her husband earlier in the tenday for defying them and that they came back that night to abduct her and her two children.

"I can't offer much in the way of a reward, unless you're willing to travel to Thundertree."

Not finding anything useful on the guards Karma addresses the Lady, "You are welcome Dudette, happy we could help. Is there anything more you know about this Wizard?"
Jul 17, 2021 11:36 pm
"The name is Mirna and these are my children, Nars and Nilsa. We really don't know anything more than what I've told you. The guards talk of the wizard and the monsters would come and threaten us every few hours."

She pauses as tears start to well up in her eyes.

"Can you get us out of this place?"
Jul 18, 2021 4:25 pm
Kerisha stows her sword, not wanting to scare the prisoners. "I can lead you to exit to forest. There is farm house not far that is safe. Can you find your way back to Thundertree from there?"
Jul 18, 2021 4:39 pm
"Oh, we are not from Thundertree, we line in Phandalin. I grew up in Thundertree but fled when the town was overrun by undead. My family owned a alchemy shop there, and hidden beneath some of the storage shelves was a small case containing an emerald necklace. I'd like for you all to have it should you ever find yourself there, as I have nothing here to offer as a reward.."
OOC:
Mirna will gladly take Kerisha up on the offer to lead her out of the manor. We won't bother backtracking the way out in order to save time and assume that you have led her and her children to safety and pick things up right where we are.
Jul 18, 2021 5:00 pm
"Undead. That not right. If we find our way to Thundertree, we will investigate."
As they are leaving Kerisha will ask Mirna "Before you go, do you know which way wizard is?"
Jul 18, 2021 5:13 pm
Mirna shakes her head. "I've only heard mention of the wizard, I have not ever seen him. I'm sorry."

The boy, hearing the question waits for his mother to finish before adding. "When the guards thought we were sleeping I would hear them talk of talk of a secret entrance to "the boss'" room in a store room. I didn't hear anything else though."

Jul 20, 2021 1:23 pm
Gerbo sighs and walks over to Belanor. "Belly, you've seen how the city works. No guards are going to help with this situation. Maybe after we deal with this wizard fella, we can talk to our friend Sildar. When he tells us he can do absolutely nothing about it, can we at least take a look? Getting a city back up and running would leave a lot of thirsty people, I would think, so of course we'll need your services." When he gets to the last part, he rubs his thumb and finger together in the "money" gesture."What do you say? We'll take this one step at a time and make some good money doing it."

"Yes, while I do agree that a town getting on it's feet does provide the opportunity to make coins. It's not profitable if I seem to perish doing things I'm clearly not equipped to handle." Belanor breaths and sheaths his sword shakely.

"This is also not something I'm equipped for but by the gods am I not gonna get paid for my labor in this endeavor. Once we find Gundren he will know the troubles this has caused me and therefor the guild!"

"You stick with us and you won't get hurt...squishy man" She smiles at Belanor as she gives him a bit of a poke as if to make her point that he's a bit squishy in a playful way, which really doesn't come across that clearly, what with her giant sword that's dripping with red-cloak blood as she steps over their corpses.

As Gerbo works on the doors, she gives him enough room to work his magic but keeps a watchful eye, ready to defend her pack.
Jul 23, 2021 12:20 pm
Karma trundles along with the group like a bad smell, hoping that one of these doors ends up leading somewhere or to some fresh air. As Gerbo checks another door Karma notices his fingers slipping a little with the thieves tools, so he walks up squishing and couple what may have been insects between his fingers. There is nothing out of the ordinary in the small room. The weapons are, at best, second tier in quality but serviceable nonetheless. The stone work in the room is what Karma would expect - decent, but poor by dwarven standards.

In the hallway, opposite the entrance to the weapon's room there is an obvious difference in patterning on the wall.

Iarno doesn't see what the halfling is up to and before he has a chance to react Gerbo has stuffed his pie-hole with a rolled up sock.

Resigned to his fate the wizard slumps forward in Kerisha's arms and grunts.
OOC:
Iarno is Grappled an gagged.

At his point we'll cease initiative order and anyone can act freely. Given a chance, however, the wizard may try to save himself, so be specific as to how you are all handling him.

Seeing him slump forward, Gerbo's blood pressure drops a little. While Kerisha is still holding him, Gerbo take the rope I from the side of his pack and bind the wizard's arms behind his back. "I suppose that ought to do it. Shall we? Kerisha, can you stick with him? I think he's taken a shine to you."

Gerbo will creep back to the door we came in and scout ahead a little.

Gerbo makes his way up the stairs and into the storeroom that the group first found when they entered the manor. There doesn't appear to be any danger along the way.

we're on a secret mission.. .. ..
"So, the justice can take care of this then we can get on with finding Gundern. Perhaps with this they'll get enough to actually have a guard force in town. Don't you think?

Belanor makes sure to grab and dawn his peacoat on the exit. Making sure to keep tight to the newly acquired staff.
OOC:
for funsizez is there a description to this staff or a non descript, generic looking mage staff.

Gerbo grabs another crowbar from the stores to replace the one he jammed under the wizard's door. "I suppose that depends, Belly. We can see if anyone knows anything. I think it's probably worth questioning this guy about it, but let's try to keep it down until we get out of here. Never know who's listening."

Gerbo proceeds ahead of the group, checking the big room for evidence that anything has changed or anyone is present.

Great!
Belanor will often look though the staff seeing though it like it were a portable window. "Say how do you think something like this is made?"
Aug 16, 2021 8:20 pm
The store room and the large room with the crevice appear just as the group left them. It would appear that the path to the exit is clear.
Aug 16, 2021 8:31 pm
Kerisha will make sure the wizards feet are also bound, so that any thoughts of running are completely out of his mind. She stands with her sword tip to the floor and hands resting on the pommel. Like a sentinel standing guard by the wizard. She has been given an order by Gerbo and she will follow that until they are ready to move on.
Aug 17, 2021 12:53 am
Gerbo wants to keep moving and get out of enemy territory ASAP. "We need to move quickly, but more importantly quietly through this cavern. Keep your eyes open. I will go first. Kerisha should probably stay in the middle, so if we do find someone, they don't ambush her and take the wizard. Belanor, please keep the staff away from the wizard. We've almost got this, let's go."

Gerbo skitters out from the opening, keeping his head on a swivel, looking for anyone who might be lurking.

Without any signs of threats all of you are able to quickly make your way across the cavern room and into the tunnel leading to the woods. The wizard lets out a few groans and moans along the way to express his dissatisfaction but is otherwise a non-issue. As Gerbo exits his eyes take a few moments to adjust to the noon-time sun, but he can clearly make out a small figure hiding in the weeds not more than ten or 15 meters ahead, but before he can investigate Kerisha exits behind him.

The small figure jumps up from the weeds; it's Carp, pointy stick in hand

"Kreesha! Did you get the bad guys!!?"
OOC:
Wizard in hand and you've successfully exited the manor. Where to?

Karma looks around and takes deep breath sucking in the fresh bush air, "Yum nature taste so good." After a few moments he speaks to the group, "I don’t think we should take this guy back to the farm, we should head straight back to town, we don’t want to lead anything bad back to the innocent."
Aug 20, 2021 8:18 am
Kerisha squints slightly as the group emerge into the bright sun.

"Carp. Are you ok? Where is your mother?" She is a little surprised to see the young halfling. But then again, he does remind her of herself when she was young. She would have done the same, and is quite impressed by his skills to slip past a mothers eagle eye. He may well give Gerbo a run for his money when he is older, with his roguish skills.

"Yes. We taking him back to town to Sildar." She nudges the wizard forwards to keep moving. "Did you see Orel?" She is still concerned for her old friend, but is confident he will survive.
Aug 20, 2021 4:29 pm
"Mom saw your friend come out and gave him some of our herbs and then took her to Sister Garaele's temple." Carp answers, pointing lazily towards town.

"She told me to keep watch!!

The walk through town, with Iarno in tow, does not go unnoticed by the locals. There are more than a few instances where citizens call out to the wizard with smiles on their faces before they notice he is tightly bound and gagged. A small crowd starts to gather around you just as you reach the Townmaster's Hall.

"What manner of trickery is this!" a familiar voice rings out. Sildar makes his way through the crowd, takes a look at his bound friend, and then a good hard look at all of you.

"And why has the good wizard been bound?"

"You have done well Carp. Now run home and wait for mom."

Kerisha keeps a tight watch on the wizard as they march into town. She looks mightily confused at the scolding from Sildar. The wizard has been delivered safely and unharmed. Surely Sildar should be happy. Best let the talkers in the group sort this out, a half orc marching into town with what is being perceived as a prisoner isnt the best look.
Aug 25, 2021 6:27 pm
Sildar continues to look on, his expression changing from its initial shock to more of confusion.

"Why would you bind my friend?"
Aug 26, 2021 12:39 am
OOC:
oh no here we go XD
"Well, there was a mention of a wizard that took over the Redscarf crew. The description matched similarly to your Irano. At first I thought it off as coincidence but when they mentioned a way into the wizards room. We see him pouring over some tome. And seeing that both your friend and this new usurper may be the same I thought it best to bring him in. We also brought over the contents in question. All this in hopes that there's a possibility of an establishment of a guard."
OOC:
I don't recall if we scooped up the stuff he was looking over or not.I see we did.
"Being wizards my instructors told me to not let them speak much or you could fall under bewitchment. I would think it wiser to speak with him inside the building."
Belanor still holding the glass staff.

Gerbo pipes in "The Redbrands mentioned their leader was a wizard called GlassStaff. This one carried a glass staff." pointing to the staff.

Karma stands behind Belanor as if he was giving a political news interview, nodding his head and smiling at the appropriate moments. At the mention of the notes upon the Wizard’s desk Karma dutifully produces them from his bag.

Good point. You mentioned the staff in your post and I got excited and thought "Help action, here I come." Might have just made it awkward for Sildar, though.

i appreciate it though! I Thought it was good :D

Sildar takes the notes and quickly glances through most of them until he gets to the one from the Black Spider. Angrily mumbling about "deceit" and "treachery" while he carefully studies the note he shakes his head in disbelief.

"I can't believe a fellow member of the Lord's Alliance would lower himself to do such things."

He steps towards Iarno and gives the man a hard slap across the face.

"This traitor will be dealt with by the Alliance, but for now he's coming with me.

He grabs a hold of the wizard's restrained arms and starts to lead him away before turning to back the group.

"You all have my thanks. Please stop back in a few hours, I think I may have some leads as to Gundren's whereabouts. And I will, of course, have your promised reward waiting as well."
OOC:
Everyone should now level up to 3!

Once everyone is done, we'll move onto the next chapter. Let's assume a full rest, so all HP, spell slots, and the like will return. You can also purchase goods from the local stores with your recently acquired loot and your portion of the upcoming reward (125GP each).

Done. Is that 125 total or 125 each?

Gerbo leveled in arcane trickster after seeing the value in some of the fun stuff the casters were doing. He went off to find some books on the matter and read up a little on some basic magic to try. Of course, the magic he learned is things he considered would be helpful for his cons.

Karma wandered off bare chested into the woods to collect mushrooms and commune with nature. He arrived back later that evening covered in leaves and bark and pupils the size of pins, upon arrive in his inn room he collapsed to the floor and slept soundly.

Kerisha needs time to unwind from a hectic day. There is no place that calms her down like the forest. Listening to the breeze through the trees and the water trickling down the stream, she notices a bear further down stream. She watches as the bear calmly drinks from the water, amazed at how such a powerful beast can be so tranquil. It is then she realises that this is the same bear she has seen before, still surviving. The bear lifts its head and looks her square in the eyes. For a moment Kerisha's heart stops beating, preparing for the bear to run at her. Time passes without a move from wither of them. Its then she feels a strange connection with the beast. They are both just creatures, out in the wild, trying to survive. The bear finally turns to move back into the forest, brushing against a tree as it goes.

Kerisha waits until the bear is out of sight, before moving to the tree. The bear left some of its fur attached to the rough bark. Feeling such a connection to the animal, Kerisha collects the fur, and heads back to town for the night. As she walks, she keeps thinking about the bear, and feels more resolve and stronger, knowing that if that bear can survive, then so can she.
